About the author

John T. Cunningham was a journalist, writer, and historian who published numerous works related to the history of his native state, New Jersey. Long known as "New Jersey’s popular historian", his This is New Jersey, originally published in 1953, has never gone out of print. Cunningham work has also included collaboration on several documentaries and frequent speaking engagements.

An overview of what times and objectives were back in the days of mass immigration to the US. Helpful in my understanding of genealogy.

This is one of many books that can be found in the bookstore at Ellis Island and it's a short, excellent overview. It not only covers Ellis Island but it gives background about the 19th century immigration experience before Ellis Island existed as well.
