Morphoses is a novel of transitions. It starts where Club Dishabille left off and it includes two of the more minor characters from that novel. The title itself gives the reader a hint into Miranda's kink. While a good bit of the story revolves around Miranda indulging this, there's another transformation that is taking Nicholas kicking and screaming into a normal functioning sexual relationship. By the end you will love Miranda and Nick as much as Dahlia and Alex.
Morphoses is a love story for those who are ready for a bit more than just a spanking.
Arden Aoide lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and three cats. Turn ons include men who cry during sex, long walks on the beach, and talking about herself in the third person. Turn offs include mean people and trying to figure out how to write an interesting author bio.
She doesn't write about the typical men you normally read about in erotic romance novels. She likes her men brainy and just this side of manic.
She's an introvert, she loves coffee, Internet, British television, and pot stickers. And pie. She loves pie.
To get the full experience you must read these books in order. Morphoses expands upon the relationship we get a glimpse of in Club Dishabille between Nick and Miranda.
I adored Nick from the previous book. He was so disinterested (due to low T) in everything with the exception of t.v. and food. The combination of his insecurities, awakening desires and bursts of bravery in this book only add to my adoration. In another character I wouldn't have believed the ease with which he accepted Miranda's kink (given that he's a heterosexual male) but Nick's character is so well developed in the first book that I felt his insecurities and the surprise he experienced at being overwhelmed with need for Miranda. The feeling of desire, want, need is so unexpected and new to him that I found myself smiling in satisfaction along with him. All I needed were pompoms and fan girl t-shirt reading: "Team Nick's Erection".
Miranda was a little harder for me to connect with, I think perhaps while Club Dishabille begins with Miranda and Dahlia's conversation Miranda wasn't as present in the first book as the others were, so it took a little time for me to attach. Once I understood how her insecurities and suspicions of Nick's easy acceptance drove her character she became more real. She is strong and has waited patiently for what she wants and needs from a partner. She reminded me slightly of Nora Sutherlin (The Original Sinners by Tiffany Reisz), something about her directness and her humor maybe.
Their exploration of each other combined with appearances from Dahlia and Alex made for a sexy, fun read. There are so many hot scenes in this book I don't know where to begin and if I tried to pick one I will end up reading the entire series yet again...not that that's a bad thing but the hubby is only 'so' understanding ;-)
As in the previous book the writing style continues to flow easily and AA creates images without over description and cluttering the story with excess twaddle. It seems to be AA's writing style to switch perspectives rather quickly and I find it quite interesting. In some instances I would have to reread a line or two just to confirm I was heading in the right direction. IMO it comes across almost as you would read a stream of consciousness but different..I know WTF? right...I'm not sure how else to explain it. If there were such a thing as external stream of consciousness or internal dialogue of the author's mind via the characters, maybe...oh hell, I don't know. What I do know is it works! I would've liked it to be a little longer. Just as I had settled in and got comfy it was over...perhaps that is a good thing? I'd like to see where these two take this quirky relationship and selfishly I want to see what becomes of Nick once his T levels have been restored. Longevity of his passion for Miranda and the other 'side effects' combined could make for a tasty morsel of a sequel. Hint-Hint....
Original story + enjoyable writing style + unique characters=Really good book. What are you waiting for? Happy Cold Showers..um I mean reading!
The second story of the Apprivoise Trio revolves around Nick and Miranda. Nick is Dahlia's ex-husband. Two years ago Dahlia divorced him, but they are still living under the same roof, raising their daughter together and working in the same office at their house. After Dahlia met Alex and fell in love with him, she wants to set up Nick with Alex's sister, Miranda, the owner of Club Dishabille. "I think I want Nick to be with someone who already knows and accepts our strange set up, I guess. I'd hate for someone to ask him to choose."
Neither Nick nor Miranda need a lot of convincing. They are attracted to each other from the get go. Nick has been diagnosed with a testosterone deficiency and now that he is getting help for it, he starts reacting to a woman again. One wouldn't expect from him, after years of living in some sort of sexual apathy, to be turned on by Miranda so instantly. Not even her secret fetish seems to scare him; quite the opposite: he wants to explore his new found libido together with her and under her guidance.
I don't want to retell the whole story in all its particulars and spoil it for future readers, but what follows are some steamy scenes! After such a long time living like an eunuch, Nick has some catching up to do. ;-) But don't be mistaken and think this book is just a sex feast thinly disguised with a plot! Dahlia and Alex make an appearance in this read too. We learn more about Dahlia and her protective behavior towards Nick. The destructive influence of Nick's mother in his childhood and how he tried to cope with it. And the reader gets a picture of how it is like to be living within such an admittedly strange set up. Because not everything is all hearts and flowers all the time among these adults, regardless of how open minded they are.
Three out of four characters are under medication in this story. But we only find out about Alex's and Nick's health issues. Miranda just mentions at the beginning that she ingests a prescription drug too, but not the reason why...
Maybe this will be answered in the last and final installment, Force Majeure!
I noticed some typos and tense issues. The sentences felt sometimes a little bit staccato, but nothing too distracting. I would definitely recommend reading this book!
Well written with several editing issues. There are some strange inconsistencies with perspectives switching mid paragraph, but it's distracting, not irritating. This is a stand-alone book with no cliffhanger, although the story includes the introduction of characters for the next story.
This is an interesting series because it deals more with fetishes than BDSM, although there are some BDSM elements. The lead female character owns/manages a sex club, but very little of the book happens in the public club, instead mostly in the private bedrooms. These are some weird kinks, but oddly, the emotions and insecurities of the people seem really very average and normal.
Very few books that I've read in the BDSM genre spend a lot of time on real life, outside the club. This series is mostly about real life, negotiating the balance of time between friends, family, jobs and play. Looking realistically at the difficulty of conversations that reveal just how odd your preferences might seem to others, along with medical conditions and juggling new relationships with ex-spouses are all touched upon.
Some might find the divorce/ex-spouse relationship here really weird and unrealistic, but I've seen a very similar relationship up close. It's not tension free -- and neither is the one in this story -- but having a peaceful extended family and lover relationship is possible, so points to the author for this depiction.
Several reviewers commented that the sex scenes are hot. They're explicit, but they're a little too odd for me to find them erotic. They're definitely interesting and well done, but they're not the typical romanticized BDSM scenes.
Strongly recommended for anyone interested in the BDSM genre.
Morphoses is a little more…complicated. Miranda owns a sex club, but she doesn’t have a partner, or a lot of sex for that matter. Her new friend, her brother’s girlfriend, Dahlia, wants to set her up with her ex-husband, Nick. That’s the first complication. I mean, it’s strange that Dahlia still has such a close relationship with Nick. Their lives are intertwined, what with having a daughter, but it gives Miranda pause. What’s wrong with Nick? Why would he ever let Dahlia go? Miranda tries to get the truth out of Dahlia, but she keenly evades the question. Miranda needs to hear about Nick’s problems from him. Miranda agrees to see him and their coupling is quite explosive. Nick didn’t even know he had that kind of response to a woman in him. Miranda brings out a side of him that he is equally scared of and intrigued by. He isn’t going to be the slug lounging in font of the TV anymore. I loved how both Nick and Miranda got so protective and defensive of each other. Miranda is in to some very kinky things in the bedroom. Things that she hasn’t found someone comfortable enough to try them out with her. Until Nick. A lot of patience is needed in this story, for Nick mainly. To put if plainly, he’s not a typical male, but who’s to say what typical is. The beauty about these stories, about these very unique individuals, is just that; they are exploring the intricacies of womanhood, manhood and sexuality.
If I had not read the book by the same author titled, "Dishabille" I would not have liked this book at all. Actually, I would not have understood Morphoses so would have been extremely frustrated and probably would've hated it! I was surprised that the author did not state right from the start that Morphoses is not a stand-alone but should be read after Dishabille. HOWEVER, I fortunately had read the 1st book so I was able to enjoy Morphoses.
Just like in the 1st book, the explicit and open-minded sex scenes are creative and hot. My only complaint is how brief these stories are. I find it difficult to consider either Dishabille or Morphoses as a, "book" but think both would be much better if they were combined into one book. At the end of Morphoses we are sort of left with a cliff hanger as we are given a more in-depth introduction to character Jeff. If the author writes more about Jeff along with the current group of characters, I'll look forward to reading it!!
Wonderfully wicked and erotically exotic this hot little read did not disappoint and although it was way to short it did leave me satisfied and sometimes had me ROFL. I never wanted to view orchids before and somehow now I want to purchase some and eat sandwiches and pie.
There is just something so endearing about Nicholas Jones that pulls at my heartstrings. Maybe I sympathize with his medical problems or his lack of vanity or feelings or maybe his guilt for owning up to being to lazy to try in his past relationship, for sure it must be his food kink, he is a foodie! LOL
Miranda owns her own little kinky joint and although she really isn't into BDSM, she has her own shockingly perverted kink. She loves being a woman but just can't wait to show Nicholas some of what really makes her clock.. tick tock.
Loved the quirkiness and geekyness of these characters. Thanks Arden Aoide!
another great read, i have to say that nick and miranda were great together. i loved there chemistry and to say i hated his mother is an under statement lol. love how the book continues from where book one left off, you can follow the story really well. you have nick as a man who was married for many years to his best friend but they divorced and he still shares a child and has a great relationship with his ex-wife. he see's miranda and there is a connection on first site. but he is afraid to act on it. miranda you would think with the business that she runs would be less then shy or full of nerves. but this is all new to her as well. great story loved this.
This is the second book in a series after Dishabille. As I wrote in my review of the first book, what is lovely is the originality of the story, the characters that grow on you, the diversity of the erotic events and surely the easy flowing writing style of Arden Aoide. In this second book there is also an element of tension that contributes enormously to the excitement of the story.
I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review, so here it is. This is a great story and just as good as Dishabille, the first in this series. Love how the characters are inexperienced and willing to try new things. I liked how this one was more about Nick and Miranda but still kept Alex & Dahlia close. This is the second book by Arden Aoide I have read and I love her writing style and looking forward to reading more from her.
WOW is all I can say. I enjoyed the first book because of the inexperience of the characters with the desire to have an erotic lifestyle. I enjoyed reading the different perspectives of the male and females in both books. Miranda's little fettish was a bit much to swallow but Nick man 'd up and jumped in blindly and accepted it all. These books are a little different than the other books I have read but I really enjoyed them.
I loveeeeee these books Arden Aoide is so good at writing dirty! Book #1 was so fun and #2 just as good and fun! Miranda and Nick had me so stuck to page after page to see what was going to happen next, and the humor in these dirty hot tells gets me chuckling out loud. You wont want to put it down till its done!
I loved this book. Miranda is the wonderful owner of Club Dishabille. Knowing that you would think that she was all kinds of kinky. Enter Nicholas Jones. They meet because Miranda hooks Nicholas's ex-wife up with her brother Alex. One might think that this would be and odd situation to be in, but it really works for them. Miranda and Nick start to get to know each other and realize that they are what they both needed. Yes Miranda has her kinks but her kinks is what makes Nick feel like he can get the help that he needed.
This book is not really for everyone. But if you have an open mind and want to enjoy a wonderful story this i definitely the book for you.
Miranda is a badass! I love this character and so glad she got her own book. Her relationship with Nick is so intriguing. They are cute and badass at the same time. I do feel it ended a bit abruptly though. I wanted to hear more about them, but think I will in book 3.
Really liking these stories. Individuals with real life problems, learning and exploring their sexualities. Second chance loves with a bit of Kink. Miranda and Nick...woah!
Now that Dahlia is in a happy relationship with Alex, Nick thinks he might also be ready to try dating. He is disappointed in himself for waiting years to go to the doctor, but discovering he has low testosterone and receiving treatment, he feels more confident about a new relationship. He's attracted to Miranda the minute he sees her. His body responds in a way he never thought possible again, and after a very intense encounter in the hallway at Club Dishabille, Nick now knows that Miranda feels the same way about him.
I enjoyed seeing Nick comes to terms with his problem and develop the confidence he needed to move forward with Miranda. He and Dahlia never had heat in their relationship, so watching his lust and assurance with himself grow was touching. Miranda adores him and her patience and caring is just what he needs. The fact that Nick accepts Miranda's strange fetish makes it all the better for her.
You'll love the reference to the orchid. I will have to do some Google research on that myself and see if I can see what they all saw.
We get glimpses of Dahlia and Alex and their relationship is progressing nicely. There are some problems that Nick and Dahlia finally confront regarding their marriage. We meet Jeff who was mentioned in the first book, and get a little insight into his character. The next book in the series will be about him and a girl he wants by the name of Evan. I'm looking forward to continuing to read about these characters. I give this book a 4.25-4.50 rating.
I was gifted a copy by the author for an honest review. I actually wasn't fully sold on this series based off of the first book. I felt that a few of the characters were under-developed and that, that particular story wasn't finished. Going on to read part 2 and 3 - my thoughts changed. The character development became deeper - and the way that Arden ties all three stories together was done creatively and in a way to pull me in more. I personally feel that part 3 appealed to me most. But then again - maybe I like the quirkiness to Jeff. Definitely worth the reads!
Wow! Very Hot!! Miranda is the owner of a fetish club called Dishabille. Nick is the ex of Dahlia, her brother's fiance. Because of Nick's medical problems he and Dahlia divorced, but he has finally sought the medical advice and medication he has needed. In fact he has been taken aback by the effects of the injections. Miranda is interestfed in Nick but doesn't know if he will be put off by her kinks and hesitates to show her interest. They soon find out that they can set the sheets on fire. If you like kink, and I do, this book is for you.
WOW is all I can say. Like the first book this one was just as kinky. I love the fact that they are real issues and not the same old 50 shades comparison. They actually felt like genuine people having genuine issues to work through. I do have to say I will Never Ever look at caramel and orchids the same way!
