Nicole, gynaecologist husband Matthew and daughter Lily live a seemingly perfect life in their gorgeous home ‘Three Gables’ but there’s a lot that can be lost in the space of a week.
This was a good read and it kept my attention, the characters were believable and I didn’t see where the story was going.

I had to take a while to process this book before I could write my review. I wasn't prepared for the characters I found within the pages of "Her Husband's Lies." Dr. Matthew Delaney and his wife Nicole are complex, deceitful characters who are masters of secrets and lies. If you love twisted and untrustworthy characters, this book is a must-read. Don't expect a quick and easy read – this gripping story will keep you guessing until the very end!

Matthew and Nicole/ Nick are having financial problems. Nick refuses to address them saying everything will work out.
Mathew has a plan to disappear for awhile which Nick doesn't take seriously until he does actually disappear.
Nick starts learning many things about Matthew including his affair.
The woman he's having an affair with turns up dead days after Matt's disappearance.
Matt's sister Grace doesn't believe Nick and thinks more sinister things have been going on with her sister in law.
Good characters and build up in this book with many twists.

Another new author for me and I was instantly fascinated by the story. I loved the writing style and I honestly could not untangle the web of lies in order to find out who did what to whom and why.
In the beginning I liked Matt and his little family consisting of his wife Nic and his daughter Lily. The more I read the more I disliked him for various reasons. Nic on the other hand had my sympathy. I felt her pain and I understood why she was the way she was.
And then there is Lily. The princess of the family, spoiled and thinking she knew how the world worked.
It seems like none of them were what they wanted people to think.
Can you get away with murder though? The answer to that lies on the last few pages. :)
I enjoyed this fluently written story where once and again little tidbits of information were revealed. I was utterly surprised by the outcome and I love that. 5 stars

My first Amanda Reynolds and it won't be my last. It was an easy read that I flew through in two sittings.
I loved the characters and how they developed throughout the story.
Everything flowed so well and that twist at the end was one I absolutely did not see coming. Just brilliant.

Enjoyed it but the husband wasn’t really given a voice so there was no real insight into how or why he did what he did - just saying!

Her Husband’s Lie immediately hooked me and held my attention from beginning to end!
Dr. Matthew Delaney tells his unsuspecting wife, Nic, that they are basically broke, saying they’ve been living beyond their means for too long. Add in the exorbitant lawyer fees required to see the doctor through a patient lawsuit, he suggests they sell their home. When Nic responds with frustration and confusion, Matthew lashes out saying maybe life would be easier if he just died so Nic could collect his hefty life insurance. He then begins rambling about how he could fake his death, something that appalls Nic who suffers from poor mental health.
But then, a week later, on the day of their daughter, Lily’s, 18th birthday party, police detectives show up to say Matthew’s car was found crashed and abandoned on the side of the road.
Did Matthew have a premonition something bad was coming his way in light of the lawsuit from a patient? Or did he actually go through with his crazy idea to fake his own death?
Because of those questions, and so many more, I was hooked beginning to end! This was delightfully suspenseful and full of secrets and lies. I’ve read other books from Amanda Reynolds and can’t wait to see what twisty tales she comes up with next!

Layers of lies is a great subtitle for this thriller. Matt, the husband, is inexplicably missing but did he really leave on his own accord?
Nic, the wife, knows more than she’s letting on and as the truths came out I kept sucking in my breath from disbelief.
I had no idea the book would take the directions it did because I felt the plot would certainly be playing a different tune. Shows you what I don’t know.
It’s an enthralling read and certain to keep readers interest until the last page.

I've read and enjoyed several of Reynolds books before now, so couldn't wait to immerse myself into the Delaney's life.
It's a fast paced thriller mystery where we join Nicole in her search for missing husband Matthew. There are multiple twists to throw you off kilter and the ending threw me, I didn't have a clue that was on the cards!
The characters were great, well developed and perfectly flawed, adding to their credibility throughout the story.
A brilliant read full of secrets, lies and the ultimate in betrayal.
I would wholeheartedly recommend both the book and the author.

2/10 - Husband goes missing after admitting to his wife that he’s in debt - mehhh so boring and unsatisfying. Heaps of unnecessary descriptions of nothing. Loads of characters introduced that could have been such great culprits or at least red herrings and were wasted. Loads of unexplained aspects and a really unsatisfactory boring ending. Storyline was weak to begin with but the writing style made it so much worse. Hated all the characters, guessed most of where the book was going (which wasn’t hard there was no surprises) and was bored rigid by the end

This was my first book by Amanda Reynolds but it won’t be my last. I enjoyed this book because it kept me guessing till the end. It was well written although none of the characters are really likable. I personally thought that it was an easy read. There were some slower parts in the book but the story was well developed. I will definitely read more from this author.

Nicole and her husband Matt have the perfect life. So, when Matt suddenly goes missing Nicole can't figure out why. Everything leads to The Glass House. Will she find the answers and her husband.
I'm still not quite sure if I've fully processed what happened in this book. There are so many deceitful characters - all with their own secrets and lies. Sometimes it was hard to keep up. But, this is one gripping story with a shock ending that I did not see coming.

Her Husband's Lie was just okay for me. The author did create a sense of intrigue regarding where the husband disappeared to and I did want to finish the book for this reason. I did feel it was drawn out at times and bit repetitive. I was expecting a shocking ending but felt let down. You would like this book if you enjoy family drama. Not for me though and not a book I would call memorable.

a fun tube read, easy to follow and exciting, very sensationalistic. however i might be going crazy but spelling and grammar mistakes in a published book? - maybe it’s just a kindle thing?
the storyline overall doesn’t add up that much as the focalisation is internal but then at the end is supposed to be external - i guess this could have displayed delusion or denial but the characterisation was inconsistent.
also probably an attempt at realism but there were no likeable characters, the ends didn’t justify the means of the poor characterisation, though there were glimpses of reality in the humanity of the characters.
also there’s no real explanation which is shocking / makes sense / makes you feel like you can’t believe you missed it. seems like the storyline was just last minute changed at the end with no coherence with the beginning, and so many subplots which all came to an anti climax and didn’t have any relevance to the ending. the husbands actions remain unexplained and what really was his ‘lie’, everybody knew anyway?

I actually enjoyed this story and the complexity o9f the relationships between the characters. Nicole and Matt seem to have a perfect life together. Matt is a wealthy doctor and Nicole is a stay-at-home mom. They live in a nice house with comforts that others envy. But when Matt's dealings start to come to light, Nicole is floored as she tries to piece together how to move forward. The twists in this book kept coming. I found myself talking out loud to some of the things that were going on. I could easily see this as a movie in my head. The writing flows effortlessly getting you to fully understand the characters. I enjoyed how the whole time I was kept guessing. Definitely would recommend to those who are into mysteries and thrillers.

This book was just ok. I felt as if it was unnecessarily drawn out, and a slow burn to say the least. Nicole is trying to figure out what happened to her husband, Matt throughout the majority of the book. So much of this was repetitive and had me losing interest as we try to figure out why Matt has disappeared.
Not the most exciting mystery and unfortunately not that memorable either. I will try another one by this author in the future!

I gave this book 5 stars because the pace and story line moves at a consistent pace that captivates you from beginning to end. There is no useless words and information. Her husbands lie starts with a husband who is an ob/gyn doctor who is falling from grace. Thus begins the fiction mystery of how will this end. I could see this becoming a movie.

I stuck with this book because I felt it had potential. The best part was the epilogue unfortunately.

I received an ARC of this one and it was my first book by this author. This book was a struggle to finish. It dragged, and the characters were not likable- and not in the way that you dislike a villain. The overall plot was actually good and I liked the plot twist and ending, but it took a lot for me to power through to get to it.

This is the second book I’ve read by Amanda Reynolds, and it won’t be my last. She’s the master of suspense, right until the bitter end. At first, it’s obvious to the reader that there is definitely something that Matt is hiding from his wife, Nic. And even though he pleads his innocence and swears that there is nothing more going on than what she is aware of, when he disappears, it only further shows what lengths Matt would go to in order to protect himself. I couldn’t help but really feel for Nic. As chapters go by, we learn more and more about how imperfect this seemingly perfect marriage has been for years.
It wasn’t until the last few chapters that I discovered just how deep the darkness goes. Since it’s mostly told from Nic’s perspective, there are a few things that go on behind the scenes that aren't brought forward until the end, and at first I questioned it. Is the truth that is revealed the actual real truth? Or will there be another twist? It’s a pretty big reveal. Through it all I felt sidetracked by other characters who took my focus away from the bigger picture, which made it a nice distraction and even more of a shock because I wouldn’t have expected things to end the way they did.
The interaction between the characters could at times be tough to read. Lily, Nic and Matt’s daughter, has a lot of contention towards her mother, later explained but still not easier to digest. Matt’s sister Grace appears to always be meddling in their family affairs, as much as Nic hates it, because both women have a difficult time understanding one another and don’t appear to really know the truth of what’s really going on. Matt has bamboozled them both, and even after Grace becomes aware of that fact, she still lives in denial. Nic has dealt with a lot of tragedy in her life, a fact that no one seems to take into account, and this lack of care only adds to the layers of deception from all corners.
The ending is chilling. It flips the narrative on its head, keeping me engaged from start to finish. The perfect main character is the one who is errantly flawed, and Nic fits that description to a T. I really enjoyed Her Husband’s Lie, a definite five-star experience!

This one pulled me in right away. The setup was full of quiet questions that made me want to keep going.
But as the story went on, the momentum dipped. There’s suspense, yes—but it’s more of a slow emotional unravel than a true thriller. A few twists landed, but most were easy to spot, and the pacing dragged just enough to pull me out of the tension.
Still, it held my attention. If you’re into slow-burn stories about secrets, trust, and the quiet unraveling of a marriage, it might still hit the spot. Not a bad read at all, just not quite what I expected based on the title and the initial setup.

One happy couple, Nicole and Matthew. Middle class, in love, trusting each other. They have a beautiful house, a safe and predictable everyday life and a healthy and charming daughter. The perfect family picture for everyone to envy and emulate. And then suddenly, in just one week, Nicole´s world is getting upside down. Matthew disappears lefting Nicole with a huge riddle to solve: who is actually her husband to whom she gave her heart and full trust?
As in the case of previous books by Amanda Reynolds I had the chance to read and review, Her Husband´s Lie is advancing slowly but firmly towards a revelation towards the end of the book, and I really appreciated the ways in which the suspense is created through the pieces of smoking mirrors that are obliterating the truth.
Crime psychological thrillers evolving in a family environment may be a genre apart those days, and it´s justly so, as the everyday life may be the perfect unexpected source of surprises, as things are rarely indeed so glossy as they may look like at first sight.
In Her Husband´s Lie though, there is an unique game of emotions that are built through the story, which involves the reader into the story in a very direct and brutal way. You may encounter a lot of untrustworthy characters, hard to like, but they are actually the salt and pepper of the book. There are hardly likeable characters in this book and many of them do also act in a very unempathic egoistic way. But, how could you write a great thriller with good, likeable characters, after all?
Some of the characters, particularly Nic, may act so erratically at times, that it is very hard to show any solidarity towards her. As for Matt, it´s impossible to give him any excuse, as he seems the perfect soulless manipulator.
As the ways in which the story evolves from the very beginning - a relatively bourgeois family setting is shortly degenerating in a chain of deceit and lies - it was very hard to predict what will happen next. Thus, I felt compelled to follow up carefully every single detail of the events, hoping that somehow near the end, all those pieces will come up together to give the right key to solve the riddle.
For lovers of psychological thrillers, this is a very inspired choice for anyone looking to an eventful read, with many psychological turns and densely emotional as well. Once starting the book is very hard to put it down, as you are getting more and more curious to discover how far some characters went in pursuing their secret dark aims. Actually, very far.

This was a great book! I was fully engaged, entranced by the various storylines. And the twists and turns the story took. Really well done, and the author even tossed in one final twist in the epilogue as if a french kiss on top of a supreme dessert! Moia! (Mweau?!)
Nicole and husband Matthew seem to have a wonderful relationship, with adopted daughter Lily who is now a teenager. However, Nicole is suffering from extended periods of grief and loss that she thought she dealt with 20 years earlier. But these feelings have come back to her now that she had to have a hysterectomy, even though she is well past child bearing age. 20 years ago, Nic tried and tried to get pregnant, but she had two miscarriages and then the massive blow of a stillborn birth.
Her sister-in-law, Grace, who is a counselor recommended planting trees representing each of the babies. She did that and those trees have become her strength, her anchor, her connection to her babies and represent a huge presence in her life to help her get through each day. The trees, along with the red notebooks in which she writes down her thoughts, feelings, checklists, everything, are helping her to deal with life.
As if things weren't difficult enough, Matt comes home to tell her that he is going to be facing a tribunal because there is a claim that he behaved inappropriately (sexually) with a female patient. He is an OBGyn and even though he only referred this patient on to someone else, the claim is still something that could lose him his job and more. And if not that, then where is he, is he hiding out in the shed behind her dad's cottage? The police get involved, his sister, Grace, is frantic, daughter Lily is also upset but hopes her dad will come back for her.
The story moves quickly, shifting p.o.v.'s from Nic to Grace and back again. I loved the writing style and just when you think you have things figured out, bam, a twist in the story you didn't see coming. Highly recommend and now looking for other books by this author!
Nicole and husband Matthew seem to have a wonderful relationship, with adopted daughter Lily who is now a teenager. However, Nicole is suffering from extended periods of grief and loss that she thought she dealt with 20 years earlier. But these feelings have come back to her now that she had to have a hysterectomy, even though she is well past child bearing age. 20 years ago, Nic tried and tried to get pregnant, but she had two miscarriages and then the massive blow of a stillborn birth.
Her sister-in-law, Grace, who is a counselor recommended planting trees representing each of the babies. She did that and those trees have become her strength, her anchor, her connection to her babies and represent a huge presence in her life to help her get through each day. The trees, along with the red notebooks in which she writes down her thoughts, feelings, checklists, everything, are helping her to deal with life.
As if things weren't difficult enough, Matt comes home to tell her that he is going to be facing a tribunal because there is a claim that he behaved inappropriately (sexually) with a female patient. He is an OBGyn and even though he only referred this patient on to someone else, the claim is still something that could lose him his job and more. Her Husband's Lie is a psychological thriller set in the UK.
Nic is shocked when her husband vanishes on their daughter's 18th birthday. He was supposed to collect the cake but never appears, instead his crashed car is discovered. The police begin to investigate and are particularly interested in his troubles at work which have left the family in financial straits. Then it is revealed that the woman he is accused of sexual misconduct with (due to doctor/patient relationship) has also vanished.
Poor Nic also has to deal with Matt's sister Grace who is almost obsessed with her beloved brother who can do no wrong in her eyes. This isn't helping her already strained relationship with her daughter nor her mental health which has been significantly affected by miscarriages and stillbirths in the past. Nic is under unbearable pressure from her family and the police but is struggling to make sense of her husband's actions.
The majority of the book is written to show Nic's attempts to find the truth with occasional chapters showing Grace's divided loyalty between her adoration for her missing brother and support for those he has left behind. All of the characters hint at hidden information whilst Grace and Nic debate with themselves about being totally honest with each other and the police. It is clear that there are secrets everywhere and the twists kept coming!

Nicole is married to Matthew, a successful OB/GYN. Their daughter is Lily and Nicole has been planning a big birthday party for her. Their home, Three Gables, is very beautiful as are the grounds.
Matthew sits with Nicole one night showing her piles of bills saying that they are in a financial mess and he blames a lot of it on Nicole’s shopping. He thinks they may need to sell their home which she is vehemently against. It turns out that an unhappy patient has filed a complaint against him and there will be a hearing soon which may result in him losing his job. But he tells her the he will disappear and she can get his $2 million insurance money. Then, later her he tells her not to worry about it because all will be well.
When he actually disappears, she learns that he had been having an affair with a beautiful and very rich patient, Deena Jensen. The police become involved and Matthew’s sister, Grace, who loves her brother dearly, is determined to find out what happened to her brother.
Nicole is left trying to figure out where Matthew went as well as trying to deal with Lily’s anger. She learns just how bad the accusation against Matthew is and wants to try and find him.
The story goes back and forth from Nicole and the police and their investigations. It seems they are at her home all the time. Lily hates Nicole and that causes more problems along with Grace’s insistence on being a part of the investigation.
This story drags on a bit too much and seems repetitive at times which a pet peeve of mine. The ending finally wraps up and left me not really liking any of the characters except for Grace’s long-suffering husband, Ed. But a fairly good story so enjoy.

As the search for Matt unfolds, police become involved, crimes are uncovered and secrets that had been hidden threaten to reveal themselves.
My Review:
This one was okay but I wasn't super invested, it just felt like it was missing something. The pacing was a bit slow for me, and I found that all characters aside from the detective to be decidedly dislikeable. I appreciated the nods to therapy and mental health disorders (ex: depression and Trichotillomania), and there were some twists that I didn't anticipate, which was great! I believe Reynolds is a talented author, and I appreciate the opportunity to read this early.❤️
