Maddie has survived the end of the world. As the lights threaten to go dark and food runs scarce in her shelter, fear and greed run rampant amongst the survivors. When the shelter falls and Maddie finds herself back on the streets of The City That Never Sleeps, surrounded by millions of the undead, hope reveals itself in the chance for a cure. But the journey begins with the fight to escape New York in one piece.
Specialist Aaron Monroe leads their struggling group of civilians and soldiers towards the chance of a brighter future, but every step closer to the cure will lead them face to face with danger. New York belongs to the undead, and with the threat of winter fast approaching, Maddie and Aaron race the clock. If they don’t fight for their future, there won’t be anything left to save once the snow settles.
*Author Note* This book was originally written and published in 2013, when the author was a teenager. It has since been completely re-written for a more mature audience, with changes to the story, characters, and tone.
Samantha Hoffman is a thirty-one-year-old author who has always had a passion for both reading and writing. She began writing very young and has since unpublished most of her earlier works as her writing style has continued to develop.
Her favorite genre to write is paranormal romance, but she also likes to dabble in fantasy and horror, as well as having a new love of science fiction. She loves werewolves, vampires, zombies, magic, and anything supernatural.
Her all-time favorite author is Tamora Pierce, who shaped her view of the world, love, and heroines with her writing and storytelling.
I read the first book the first time on Wattpad. This is the first time I’ve read this one tho. Just like the first book it’s got action, zombies, friendship, and love. One thing that’s better about this book is there is no real mention or suggestion of SA like there was in the first book. But that was because in the first book there were more serious human enemies than in this book. I’m a very big Ryder and Sam lover so that’s one reason I love the first book a tad more but Maddie and Todd have definitely grown on me.
Two main characters are well developed. The rest not so much. As people die it becomes clear their characters weren’t well developed because it doesn’t bother me. In books with well developed characters, a death might make me cry. The plot is good and the story interesting enough to keep you wanting to read more.
Really good second book . I like the main characters and it will be interesting to see them evolve throughout the rest of the series. It's fast paced with lots of death although I do agree with other readers they are not evolved enough to evoke any emotion from the reader .
The series captivates readers with its intricate storytelling, seamlessly weaving the narrative threads of the first two books into a compelling tapestry. The author's skillful plot development leaves me eagerly anticipating the release of the third installment, promising even more depth and excitement.
While the first book in the series felt like it lacked that ‘zombie-esque’ feel that I prefer for apocalyptic books; this book does NOT have that issue. Maddie and Todd are a vibe and a half, but the zombie feature in this book made it much more enjoyable than the first for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forwards to the next one. 9/10 Recommend.
Liked this better than the first book. I kinda expected the romance to be between Maddie and Aaron as they're the characters in the description, so it kinda threw me off that Todd turned out to be the romantic interest. Tho I did like him. I only wish there were more scenes on the development of their relationship. But overall, I really enjoyed this book

I enjoyed book one more than this one. I didn't feel like I really got to know Maddie very well and I wasn't as engaged in the storyline. It was just okay.
