A Deadly Rejection is the authors debut novel and as debut's go, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
The chapters are relatively short which had me racing through the book. The main character Dan I took to quite early on. You can't help but feel slightly sorry for him, working on a newspaper but basically covering flower events. He is desperate to show everyone just what he is capable of although when that opportunity arises, he has probably taken on more than he is actually capable of.
It soon becomes apparent that whoever the killer is that they are trying to frame Dan. I liked how the police in this instance actually have a brain and don't take things on face value. It's quite refreshing. Only problem is, Dan, the police and the reader, have no clue who it actually is.
There are plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged and I liked the relationship between Dan and his work colleagues, Emma and Ed. Even though there are a lot of characters in the story, it was easy to keep track without feeling lost of who is who.
A Deadly Rejection was a really entertaining read that has you routing for the good guys. I could easily see this as a series on the television as I think there is so much potential for Dan, Emma and Ed and I for one would love to see more of them. Whilst there are plenty of murders, I wouldn't say it's a very dark crime thriller but it has lots going for it and is packed full of mystery and suspense. Certainly look forward to reading more by the author.

I enjoy a mystery book with lots of twists and turns and Deadly Rejections is a gripping read. There are some compelling characters, Dan, Emma, and plenty to get your teeth into. The short chapters means it’s an easy book to put down and pick up again. This is the first in the Allensbury mysteries, it is well written, compelling and hugely enjoyable. Well, old tale, loved it.

A solid five star rating for LM Milford’s debut, A Deadly Rejection.
An interesting premise, with a local council and an investigative journalist. The story kept me gripped throughout and I’m definitely looking forward to more from this excellent author.

Journalist Dan is desperate to escape the fluffy stories and to get out of his small town. When he stumbles upon a scoop that might just help him achieve those goals, he's elated … until his mysterious source turns up dead. And Dan's the only suspect.
This was a compelling story told well. My only complaint was that Dan wasn't an easy character. Give me someone to root for: flawed but with redeeming qualities. Dan has flaws aplenty, but the redeeming qualities were harder to find.

Not my usual genre but a good read which had me gripped!
