I was very interested in this book when it was recommended on Amazon. I like reading all kinds of stories. This one was different. First I have to say a lot of bad things happen to this girl. It's hard to read. It comes together in the end..... But it is a long way there. The writing is.... Hard to follow some places and skips ahead in others. I think the writing is supposed to give feelings or lead you somewhere that I didn't get. Over all its ok. It ends unfinished. You have to read the next book to get the rest of the story.
Saturday nights in the trailer park typically mean Frankie’s working at the trailer housing Buck’s Bar and Grill. While her family owns the park and four trailers housed in it, Frankie is the only sibling that works the bar and flips the burgers for the patrons. A brilliant young girl, Frankie Taylor has experienced more in her short life than any young woman ever should.
In this series debut, author Kae Wagner gives readers the beginning of an unforgettable coming of age. Love in Frankie’s world is often portrayed in the form of protection. Whether shown through her father protecting her mother from her rich family, or cruel cancer, to Frankie watching out for her older sister Debbie as she’s held back in school and made fun of for being ‘slower’ than the other kids. Even their neighbor Tesh shows her love through protecting and watching out for the Taylor kids. Their childhood isn’t easy, made harder by the decisions of their father, Buck, but Frankie is determined to hold it all together.
Wagner introduces several influential characters in this read, all of which play an immeasurable role in Frankie’s life. As we experience the trauma, pain, and terror her family suffers during her time at the trailer park we are shown a bleak future. But, through intelligence and motivation, forgiveness and redemption, readers are left hoping for more of Frankie’s story. As she emerges from her circumstances, Frankie begins to learn what she’s capable of.
Wagner uses her characters, particularly Frankie Girl, to teach readers important lessons, show us the power of resilience and love, and root us to the realities many face. “Saturday Night at the Trailer Park” is a weighty read. As Frankie is forced to grow up too fast, her role as protector takes its toll. But as readers are absorbed by Wagner’s writing and character plights, we can’t help but find ourselves cheering Frankie on.
Title caught my attention. Family of 4 in crisis after Mom dies of cancer. They live in a trailer park and run a bar. Frankie, the younger daughter tries to keep the family going. Her sister is mentally challenged, the Dad is trying to cope financially and shady ways, the youngest son is bonding with the thugs. Frankie excels at school and has big dreams while helping in the bar and trying to keep everyone safe. Good story, good people enter Frankie's life even while bad events occur. She stays strong. The beginning of her story with at least 3 other novels to follow. Note, religion from an old farmer friend comes into play.
SPOILER ALERT ~ Some things about this book didn't make any sense to me. The father was keeping his daughter in a trailer to pimp her out for money. One evening a drunken bar patron, who the daughter knew, tried to rape her. She became hysterical & had to be placed in a home to be taken care of. Why did that one encounter scar her for life but being pimped out in a trailer by her own father didn't?
This was book so hard to put down, I finished it in less than a day! It was a compelling story of a young girl with a tough childhood who learned how to forgive and take a chance on the path of love. Can’t wait for the next Frankie Girl book!!!
This book will give you lots of emotions, love, hate, sadness, anger, etc. All the characters are interesting and Frankie is awesome! I would recommend this book to everyone!
This was a page turner! You will get immersed in Frankie’s journey and will make you think and reflect on what would you do in her situation. I am eager to read the next book!
It’s going to be a series?? Not for me. An abusive parent, a stupid sheriff, a messed up family. Nope. Won’t want to read anything like this again. Allowing really bad people to walk because doing the right thing is to hard? Nope.
Saturday Night at the Trailor Park is an enjoyable story of hope and resilience with deep themes of forgiveness and redemption. Kae Wagner’s characters are very true-to-life and relatable, the setting is gritty and realistic, and the themes are both universal and deeply personal.
Well..... I truly loves this book but was very disappointed how abruptly it ended! I wanted more! I am hoping for another book to finish where Frankies life goes fro.here. so much more to be told!
I liked this story and part of it that tells of her growing up in a poor neighborhood. Also the difficult times after her mothers passing with regards to helping raise her siblings.
What a great read! Very engaging, the characters draw you in, and I stayed up way to late at night reading this book. I love that I am familiar with the area where this book is taking place. Looking forward to the second book in this series.
Pretty good, but very unrealistic. The most beautiful girl is also a genius who everybody loves and offers great things. Life in a trailer park just doesn't work like that.
