It’s all-out war on Themyscira as the team faces off against the mythical Megaera…can the Birds overcome this ancient evil?! Or will one of them have to pay the ultimate price…?

Out with the old and in with the new. Whilst it's a shame to see this team go, the problems were starting to seep through the cracks, and a switch up with plot and characters will hopefully help to boost this run back to great.
The wrap-up of the first arc was just okay. After the first few issues set up a big, bombastic, fun team-up story, the conclusion of the mission to save Sin kind of fizzled. I’m excited that Barbara Gordon seems to feature large in the second arc!
I love it when a plan FINALLY comes together, and I do really mean that emphasis on finally (more on that later). This was a stellar conclusion and I’m now just confused as to why Romero can’t be the artist on this series the entire time, like they don’t come back at all aside from the covers, really?! What a shame. But getting into the issue itself, as Dinah obliterates Megaera from the inside we suddenly start this issue with Megaera inside of Sin, and zealot recognize uses it immediately and puts their swords to their throat to make sure they don’t go anywhere. Megaera wishes to call their bluff, but Zealot is a killer in a group of killers and they would way rather risk one girl than millions. Canary is crying out for them to unhand her but Harley comes up behind and hushes her to trust her team. But it can be a bit hard not to cry out when Zealot drives two swords into your sister’s chest. Seems that Canary forgot Zealot can’t kill anyone here, but unfortunately that bluff wasn’t enough to force Megaera out of Sin’s body and now it is reforming its strands and taking Sin up high. It’s a bit of a tough spot to figure out what to do next, but Cass has brought the special magic urn that Meridian thinks they will need. It turns out this urn can be opened once and draw anything into it and once sealed will seal forever! They could theoretically draw in a large portion of Megaera to not fully trap it but reduce a lot of its strength and make it a lot easier to defeat. Meanwhile up above Sin and Megaera are getting their own chance to talk now that they are bonded and Sin immediately gains all the leverage she needs with a knife against her neck and a lasso of truth wrapped around the both of them so Megaera knows she isn’t bluffing! On the ground they are finally able to pop open the urn but the power drawing Megaera into it proves to be too strong to handle even for Barda, so it’s a good thing that Wonder Woman was able to break free from Megaera’s control to run up and assist in holding it. Now sin and Megaera’s conversation is on the clock as the urn will kill both of them. But as Sin is drawn ever closer into the Urn it finally reaches the point where Canary is forced to join forces with the rest of the birds to out the lid back on before it takes her sister. Fearing the unescapable hell of the urn, Megaera has entered a bargaining position with Sin and while bound to the lasso Megaera promises that of they are together then Sin will be the one in charge. The birds are able to close the urn before taking Sin and out of it comes a new powerful sin bound to a literal god and she is in complete control! But just as on the side of precaution Diana does not permit them to leave until she can have a full conversation with Sin and Megaera while bound to the lasso of truth where they verify that Megaera will stick to her word to protect sin and fall under her control or face the wrath of Wonder Woman coming after her. Sin is able to return the Mera rod to Barda and they are able to make a hasty exit before all the warriors they fought ask any more questions.
As the issue comes to an end it’s time for a massive after party. Dinah puts on a happy face to show her support for Sin but she is breaking inside with the power she is now bonded to they will never understand. Barbara has also finally been brought into the fold and Dinah can tell she is hurt from not being included, but now it’s time for some real answers. Meridian stop hiding and get down here to explain yourself! Meridian explains that it wasn’t her decision to not bring in Barbara…but Dinahs’. Every time they tried before…Barbara died. Meridian them shows Dinah a holo video of each of the 11 times they tried before where both Barbara and Sin died in the process, it may be hard but this is the best possible outcome. But it’s no coincidence that they died, Meridian does not like to play with time like this and takes it very seriously. But it’s different when it turns out that someone from the future is already messing with things in the past, that gives her ample room to try and make things right and someone is trying to kill the birds of prey. That won’t stand, no one is going to kill Barbara on Dinah’s watch and as it turns out Cass has been watching the entire time and is in full agreement. And of they are going to do this…they need a new team. Hahaha, let’s do this!!

I really enjoyed this and i appreciate the return to the art style. I love what the Megera and Sin combination can represent don’t love the execution of getting them together. it just feels like it happens because it does but i guess there’s an future person fucking with things so that’s why it happened? It seems to shallow but the combination of Megera and Sin almost feels like it’s supposed to be a mirro or the good and evil we all carry and the potential to carry within us but it’s meh in terms of development just an interpretation based on generic elements. Although i love the Babs plot idea, just keeping her safe from who knows what and who knows because she matters and no one is going to just let that slide. I really mess with it.
The end of the first exciting arc, and I'm already missing the Leandro Romero interior art. This was the last of Romero's interiors, but the artist will remain on the covers for the foreseeable future.
I wish Romero stayed longer, because the art with the throwback flavor that channels Kirby and Toth was the main draw for me. I can only hope the next regular artist can provide a reason for me to stay on the book.
The art has improved from a prior issue but the colouring still seems as if they want you to wear 3D-glasses when reading this book. Storywise it's a transition point hopefully stepping off to more exciting adventures akin to the early issues.
The previous issue really took the wind out of my sails for this book. It was a complete mess start to finish. Consequently, it was a struggle to get back into it with this issue. But it finishes up okay. And it sets up the next mission which sounds like it could be fun.
Amazing end to the first chapter of a truly special run so far, I feel bad for anyone who missed out on this. Glad they explained why Barbara wasn't on the team and DAMN I am so excited to see who the new team is gonna be!
3 stars. The first arc is done and honestly so far this series isn't all that great. It definitely has its moments but overall it feels kind of directionless. We're getting a new team together so I'm hoping the second arc will be much stronger.
Good end of the arc. I hope most of the team stays the same so I can get to know them more and I'm glad to see Barbara join in the next mission. Sin was cute and the pannels where she talked with Maegera were all very very cool.
