Jane Ladling cordially invites you to the world’s most romantic wedding. But first, there’s a few items to check off her to-do list.
Actually plan the festivitiesFind a way to pay for said festivitiesAvoid finding a dead body. OOPS! Solve a murderAs the owner of a landlocked cemetery and self-proclaimed expert amateur sleuth, Jane knows death inside and out. After receiving an invite to speak at a local writer’s club, she discovers a dead body upon arrival, plus an invitation from the killer.
Player one is ready. Are you?
Now the game is on!
With a newly elected (smoking hot) sheriff who doubles as her overprotective fiancé, a gaggle of enabling best friends, and a lovingly vicious guardcat at her side, the intrepid Jane has no doubt she’ll win. But as clues lead everywhere and nowhere at once, another victim is discovered, and an ancient family curse rears its ugly head. Jane realizes she’s caught in a battle between cat and mouse. To succeed, she’ll have to lay a trap of her own…
Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of over seventy books, including the acclaimed Lords of the Underworld series, the Gods of War series, the White Rabbit Chronicles, and the Forest of Good and Evil series. She writes sizzling paranormal romance, heartwarming contemporary romance, and unputdownable young adult novels, and lives in Oklahoma City with her family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
Noooooo! I'm not ready for this series to end! Though I have to admit that it was a wonderful and entertaining ending. I laughed so much reading this one, her bridal party had me in stitches, and Gena and Jill had me questioning myself all throughout the book, very much the same way Jane did, and we both should have known to trust ourselves lol.
In this last book you get to see how Jane and Conrad's lives will be going forward and how they can overcome everything as long as they have each other. I love how both grew up with hardly any family or friends to speak of yet by the end they have friends that are family and are always there for them. Even though they don't always understand Jane and her ways. Jane can get any one of them to go out of their comfort zone regardless of how embarrassing they may find it. Yet they don't complain, much, and she just takes it as a given because she would do the same for them in a heartbeat.
I think we got to see more of how not only Jane thinking process is in this last book but also a glimpse into what Gena and Jill must deal with and how they feel writing books. I definitely laughed a few times imagining them going through all the things She went through trying to write her book 🤣
This was definitely a wonderful end to such a great series and hopefully just the start of stories from this world. We got what I'm hoping were many Easter eggs of books yet to come by both authors in their own personal series as well as for this world they write together. If not, we riot! We NEED more! Jill, you can not leave me hanging when it comes to Beau and his HEA. I know he's also your favorite guy and we deserve one. Demand it. Will throw a tantrum like 2 year olds until we get it! Gena, Jill gave in and gave up Conrad as the lucky hero who gets Jane in this series, and yes we can admit it was a good call, but now you have to make it right and give Beau the perfect lady for him. It's only fair!
Jane's finally admitted to herself (and everyone around her) that she loves Conrad and wants to spend her life with him and things are moving swimmingly in the matrimonial direction. Then a dead body crosses Jane's path and it starts to look like Jane might be in more danger than anybody is comfortable with.
Naturally, Jane sets out to solve the murder in her patented convoluted way. Fortunately for her, Conrad loves the dips and turns and pretzel-like twists her mind makes as she works her way through motives and means. Also fortunately for her, her friends and family are used to the things she'll do to get answers and they stick close to try and keep her out of trouble. Not that they always succeed, but Beau and crew are usually nearby when things go south.
Between wedding planning and murder solving, Jane is also trying her hand at writing a book. Which actually has something to do with the murder-solving part, but Jane is determined to see this new endeavor through. Which means she's plotting her novel, working out who might have done the actual murder, and trying to figure out how to make her upcoming special day as special as possible.
A little danger, plenty of good food to go around, friends who will di everything possible to keep Jane safe, a sexy sheriff who adores Jane and all her wily ways, and a lady who makes fantastic mental leaps and somehow ends up exactly where she needs to be. I'm sorry to see this crew go, but BOY they were a fun ride!
This book was so fun! Jane is finally to the point where when she thinks about the “Ladling Curse” she can tell her intrusive thoughts to shove it. She believes in her man, and in what they have, and that’s stronger than any self-fulfilling prophecy disguised as a curse (previous books we learned that all Ladlings learn about the Ladling Curse, and how if a Ladling woman falls in love, her man will die).
Our little Jane is growing up 🙂
She’s been asked to speak at a writer’s club/book club so when she shows up at the Tea House, she’s surprised that no one is there. As she pokes around, she finds not the group, but instead a body. And then she’s whacked from behind and falls unconscious.
When she wakes up, the mystery of what happens becomes priority one, even over picking a maid of honor! Because, not only is Jane finally believing in love and not curses, she’s getting married to the love of her life, Conrad.
He brings Jane in as a consultant, but they soon realize she may be the target of a killer, and not just a hapless bystander. This changes their investigation drastically. And with that comes clues, tips that lead nowhere, and wild hunches. This is a wild investigation, and in true Cozy Mystery fashion, the shenanigans of this quaint town really make the book.
If you enjoy Cozies, you’ll love this. If you are new to Cozy Mysteries, they’re fun and interesting! And with Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe writing, they’re always funny. These two could write a cookbook and I’d read it. Do yourself a favor and start reading the Jane Ladling Mysteries. They’re books that leave you happy and satisfied.
* You need to read the previous books to fully understand the story in this grand finale.
Jane Ladling is planning her wedding to the most handsome sheriff of Aurelian Hills, her boyfriend Conrad Ryan. But this wouldn't be Jane if her plans weren't disrupted by another dead body, leading to another mystery she has to solve. However, this time Jane might be a target too and her diverse band of friends will use every skill in their toolbox to protect Jane. Will Jane make it to her wedding day? Or will this be the one mystery she cannot sleuth until the very end.
Okay, this was a fun ending to the series. It kept the nice and cozy vibe from the rest of the books and the writing stays sassy and fun. This was another crazy murder and of course Jane was in the middle of it. I liked the build-up to to the wedding, but I was a bit miffed there was no spicy scene in this book. We build this up for so many books, but this was a bit of a disappointment in the end. However, the humor and weirdness of the entire series make up for it. I will definitely read this series again in the future, such a great vibe.
When I heard this was the last book in the series I was upset because I didn’t want this cozy mystery series to end. However, this book was the perfect ending that kept you guessing till the end while at the same time delivering on that HEA.
Our heroine is once again caught up in a murder in her small town. This time the killer wants to play a game with HER. Our cemetery owning heroine is more than up to the task and with her sheriff fiancé they race against the clock to figure out whodunnit.
As much as this book was a cozy mystery it was also just a big happily ever after- really letting you luxuriate in the couple being totally happy and working together in tandem. The hero is an honest to god dream boat and I think he sets the bar high for both fiction and IRL men! An amazing ending that kept me guessing till the end (even though I didn’t want it to end).
Death seems to find Jane ladling even when she isn’t looking for it. Fresh from deciding that the Ladling curse won’t stop her from being with Conrad, Jane embarks on a new dream she didn’t know she had. When a mysterious invitation arrives asking her speak at a book club, she jumps at the chance. But what does she find when she arrives? A body of course.
This is another great cozy mystery by the authors. They bring you into the kookie mind of Jane as she finds her way from one murder to the next trying to find the killer. I love the way these authors bring the humor while keeping us guessing as to who done it. And that ending was just what we needed.
Grave New World was a bittersweet read. I love Jane and Conrad and all their friends, and it was sad to know while reading this one that it would be their last adventure together. I was not ready for Jane to set her investigative nature aside, so I definitely took my time reading this one, savoring it instead of devouring it like I have all the other Jane Ladling mysteries.
Showalter and Monroe gave Jane a whirlwind of a final crime to investigate; I had no idea who the culprit would end up being, and I wasn't at all disappointed when we got to the big reveal. These cozy mysteries have always been a great blend of serious case solving coupled with Jane's effervescent personality, and those two elements combined better than ever in this final installment.
Outside of the crime solving and investigation, I loved that we finally got to the endgame for Jane and Conrad. This romance has been building since the very first book, and it was so obvious just how gone Conrad was for Jane throughout this entire story. As a character who started off as more reserved, it was great to see just how much Conrad changed throughout his series' story arc.
Grave New World was a fantastic way to end the Jane Ladling series. Jane and Conrad are just the sweetest couple and are surrounded by a wonderful cast of characters. This finale gave me everything I could've wanted while wrapping the series up nicely. If you're looking for a cozy mystery with an unlikely crime solver, look no further than Jane Ladling.
[A huge thank you to both Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe for providing a review copy of this story. All opinions are my own.]
I have loved this series so much. It was honestly a wild card I picked up because I loved the cover. The story? So utterly wonderful. I’ve loved Jane and Conrad and all the other members of their squad. I genuinely loved reading their interactions with one another and how they go about solving cases. I wish there was more to the story and the series didn’t have to end here 😩 I was hoping for atleast an epilogue that was sickly sweet but there was nothing ! I would also love a spinoff series where each of her nearest and dearest get the HEA’s but a girl I can only dream I suppose 🥲
4.5 stars. Conrad and Jane finally make it down the aisle but first there’s a murder or two for Jane to solve before her wedding day or becoming the next victim. This has been a funny, quirky, series, well worth reading.
Oh my *swoon* Jane and Conrad! I love Grave New World! Jane is her wonderfully quirky self and Conrad is swoon worthy goodness. Jane finds herself in trouble again and Conrad and friends are on board to find a killer. There are so many suspects to choose from. I had an idea who it might be, but was truly surprised. All my favorite wonderful characters are in this story as well as a few new characters. It’s great to see Jane and Conrad work together to solve the case. Again, another wonderful cozy mystery story! If this series has to end, this is the perfect way to do it. Loved it!!
I would like to start out by saying a big thank you to Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe for providing me with an arc copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts in this review are my own.
Grave New World is the seventh and final book in the Jane Ladling Mystery Series.
I would like to take a moment of silence for the ending of this series if you please. We have come together to celebrate the wholesome joy this mystery series has brought me. It will potentially be survived by spinoffs following different characters. Which I really hope happens!!
It is always a pleasure to return to Aurelian Hills, well except for the dead body of course!
Wedding bells are ringing for our lovely Jane and the smokeshow and newly crowned sheriff Conrad Ryan! There is so much to do before the wedding arrives, decide on the matron of honor, pick the flavor of the cake, solve a murder, write a novel, wait, what?!! Being the book club's guest speaker was supposed to be simple. Show up, give world class Jane advice, then get started on wedding planning! Finding a dead body and an invitation to the killer's twisted game was definitely not on the menu.
This story was such a fun ride. Jane finds herself thrust into a cruel game of cat and mouse. I absolutely loved that this mystery centered around a book club of writers. Jane going undercover as a pre-bestselling author was pure gold to read! I would love to read her novel she was planning to write! Being centered around a book club of writers was such a great element to this story and the clues that attributed to this tale were so clever, that really set an entertaining yet ominous tone. Not only did this story pull past events and elements into its clutches but we are treated with many new people and things. Which gives me hope for more stories centered around our beloved little gold rush town.
I just have so much love and adoration for this group of people, I’m not ready for it to be over. I have been gifted with not only people who brought me immense joy, that stole my heart but also so many adventures, mysteries to be solved, rumors of gold, with twists, and turns over the course of these seven books. It’s been beautiful to see how everyone’s relationship has grown and developed as this series has continued on. This story was a thrilling ride, with a case that was intense, immersive, and captivating but it’s also bringing Jane and Conrads tale to a close. I will say that the ending of this book will absolutely make you melt. It might even make you a little misty eyed. As bittersweet as this is, it’s a fantastic case and one heck of an endearing and charming conclusion.
This series will always be close to my heart and if you haven’t visited Aurelian Hill’s and its scandalous inhabitants, I highly recommend you stop by for one of Jane’s casseroles and stay for a mystery!
It's time for Jane and Conrad to get their HEA. They've had a lot to work through to get this far - Conrad's grumpiness at Jane interfering and solving his murders, Jane's reluctance to get involved due to the family curse, murders getting in the way of their romance. The wedding is threatening to de-rail before the planning gets started in earnest because it's starting to take on a life of it's own with tastings and all the other decisions to be made.
But first Jane had another murder to solve. And there are suspects aplenty to muddy the water. Is it the ex-husband, his new fiancée (and Jane's nemesis), a disinherited child or someone totally unexpected?
I really enjoyed solving this murder along with Jane and co. All the red herrings, wild theories and suspects kept my brain going. I did not see that twist I'll admit. Fiona, Beau and the other Truthers are all along for the ride and I truly love the little family Jane has made for herself.
On the wedding side of things I'm pretty sure Conrad and Jane had a very "Them" wedding. I'm sad that this may be the last Jane mystery but I'm hoping we've not seen the end of Aurelian Hills other quirky inhabitants because I really need the security guys, Fiona and the others all to have a HEA too!
Jane and Conrad are one of my favorite fictional couples! I love the way they work together, and how they interact outside of solving murders. This time while going to speak at a local book club about all the murders she's solved she finds a body and a message just for her written by the killer.
This takes Jane, Conrad, and our group of friends new and old on a quest to find the killer before Jane is the one targeted. There are plenty of suspects, and I didn't figure this one out until it was revealed. This book along with the rest of the series is laugh-out-loud funny, has the perfect amount of tension and suspense, along with so many heartwarming moments and one of my favorite kitty side kicks!
I loved the way this book played out from beginning to end, and as sad as I am that is over, it couldn't have ended any better.
I absolutely adored this book. Jane thinks she's speaking at a bookclub, but comes upon the body of her friend Hannah. If course she is going to try to solve things, but she is being beset with mysterious notes, addressed to her. There a a plethora of suspects. There is Conrad, being so swoony, that I may have to sit my husband down, to read this series and take some lessons. The culprit was a bit of a surprise, as well as the reason. I loved how Jane and Conrad, both grew, in this series and it's conclusion. I am curious, how Jane can eat the way she does and still stay trim.... I will miss this series, the characters seem like family. Thank you to Gena Showalter for the advanced copy.
I’ve finally finished this series that I absolutely adore. Unfortunately, this final book fell a bit short for me.
The mystery element felt odd and underdeveloped, especially the ex storyline. It came out of nowhere. They’d been broken up for five years, barely had any contact, and then suddenly he was everywhere and obsessively involved. It felt abrupt and hard to fully believe, which weakened the suspense for me.
That said, I still love this world and its characters, and I’m not ready to let them go. Please give us a Beau book, I need his story. Our gentle giant deserves his moment. And maybe I’m being greedy, but I’d also love a Tiffany book. She’s been through so much, and I would love to see her get her own story too.
Not even her upcoming nuptials can stop Jane from literally stumbling upon a murder. Luckily Detective Sheriff McHottypants has finally come to accept that Jane will sleuth so he might as well give her the advantage of being a consultant. Ashley, Jane’s non-nemesis, nemesis, possibly friend makes for a great sounding board in addition to her trusted Team Truth. Of course there are obstacles, funny moments and lots of love but then there is that stupid pesky curse that Jane thought she was over. Not to mention that Lucy, an old friend turned maybe traitor, turns up Jane’s not sure that they will both be alive to ever even get hitched. No matter, this case will get solved?! Or will it….
This book has my heart! It had everything I love in a book, the romance, the mystery and when she gets injured it was amazing, because he became super overprotective! And he also gets poisoned it was also amazing!! I knew who was the killer or hoped I knew who he was since the beginning! This book was amazing! I wished it was dual POV, because it was better if it was! I loved how cute they were and their wedding was so cute also!! I wished we got to see if they would have babies or not!!

An utterly adorable ending to an utterly adorable series! Short, sweet, and cute, I recommend this series to anyone and everyone!
You love cozy mysteries? You definitely must read this! Don't love cozy mysteries? This will make you change your mind! Read it as a palate cleanser, even, and you'll love this series.
I honestly didn't think Jane and Conrad could get cuter, but they somehow did. I look forward to reading more from this town...maybe even Beau's book next (pretty please!!)...
This last book was a bittersweet ending to the series! I’ve enjoyed this beautiful ride with Jane and Conrad as they solved murder after murder together. I will never get over how perfect Jane and Conrad are for each other - not only in their relationship but in their partnership to solve the mystery. I love Jane’s quirkiness and Conrad’s unwavering adoration for Jane.
I loved this series and this book was a wonderful send off to them. I hope that the authors continue in a different vein.
Conrad and Jane are working towards their wedding. The curse keeps trying to take a hold in Jane's mind. Another murder and another mystery. Things come to a fever pitch and a satisfying ending.
Loved this series and this journey from beginning to end. An explosive series ending that was so hard to put down. Highly entertaining, emotionally thrilling, action packed romantic adventure filled with interesting charters and landscape, laugh out loud fun and undeniable passion. An edge of your seat emotionally thrilling ride from beginning to end.
This books is the last book in the Jane Ladling series and I’m sad that it’s over. I loved seeing Jane and Conrad’s relationship from the beginning to the end! It’s such a cozy good feel mystery. It was the perfect book and I will be rereading soon. This whole series is my comfort read for when I’m down or in a slump!
I adored this book. I love these characters so much and being back with them all was amazing. I really liked the cozy mystery writing element in here and didn't really guess the killer. This was such a sweet and funny story with a perfect ending.
Very sad to see this series end. I loved it, and I have already recommended it to my fellow readers. Would definitely watch this if this series was made into a TV show of sorts. Sabrina Carpenter could be the lead?
I love this couple & series!! I honestly have to say Jane & Conrad are my absolute favorite book couple & I don’t want this series to end!! I want to see Beau, Tiffany & the rest of the quirky, wonderful characters get their HEA too. I can’t say enough about all the wonderful characters & the books. They are amazing & and must read.
