Such a masterpiece ! Author SJM is one of my favorite authors because she ties togheter all the loose ends very good somewhere in the books and thats exactly what happend in this one! All the loose ends came togheter perfeclty except for the things that I have a feeling will be in the next book. Such an amazing book! I couldn't put it away! As the other books in this series it was nervwracking to read about all the schemes because she can't succede with everything, right? But I dont want her to fail either ! Gah, the emotional ride this one gave me.
And it was so easy to picture all the places and persons because of the descriptions!

My review of this one is a bit TOO late (realized that when I received my arc of the 5th book) and I find that a bit ironic since this is my FAVORITE book in the series! I absolutely adore these characters and this world and this author’s writing style; I CANT EXPRESS IT ENOUGH!

If you haven’t heard of this series before, I will tell you what to expect from it now; mischief, betrayal, enemies to lovers, a strong badass female character and the hottest villain to ever exist! This has EVERYTHING you need in a book! The world building and plot line and the action are to die for! And once again, the writing style is what gets me the most every single time I read one of this author’s books! Her ability to perfect every detail, to build such a rich and wonderful world is so inspiring to me and is something I aspire to achieve one day! Always stunned by everything she writes!

Note: Thank you to the author for having me on her arc team and sending me an early e-arc of the book!

I received an arc copy of this book for an honest review.

YES YES YES I don’t know if I could have asked for more out of a book. I was honestly on my toes the entire time, reading as fast as I possible can (when I had a chance to read) just to know what was happening, what is she scheming. Is it falling apart or working??? I stayed up until 5am just to finish the book!! And honestly this is all I can rave about without spoilers. I’m so damn excited for the next book and I needed it yesterday!!!

But here is one of my favorite quotes! Spoiler free as I’m not giving any info or context to the quote! ❤️

“I want you to fight with me, flirt with me, scheme with me, talk to me, threaten me, kiss me. You asked me what I wanted you to do. I want you to treat me the way you have always treated me and not as if I’m suddenly made of glass.”

My godness! Eveything happens for a reason in this book. I love how it's woven togheter in the end. Incredible!

The writing is amazing, as always. It's emotional and evolving. Feels like we get to know everyone more and on another level. There's more depth.

The Fire Soul brings even more schemes, sacrifices and betrayals. I did not quite see how the firesoul would arise. It's perfect!

Thank you to the author, Marion Blackwood, for providing a copy of The Fire Soul (Court of Elves book four). I have reviewed honestly.

The Fire Soul features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ YA fantasy
○ Elves
○ Slavery
○ Schemes
○ Royalty
○ Badass FMC
○ Friendship

My overall rating for The Fire Soul is…

5 Stars!

Marion Blackwood has done it again! She's schemed and tricked and shocked me to the core with her incredible and raw storytelling! The fourth instalment in the Court of Elves series proved to be as ground breaking as the previous chapters, if not more so! Our anti-hero lead, Kenna, is a tricky little thing, she's sassy and fierce and oh so smart. I loved how her character somehow still continued to stun me despite knowing that some scheme or another was in place. But that just brings me back to Blackwood and that sly writing style that can't be cracked. Overall, another exceptional book by Blackwood that fans of Sarah J Maas will devour.

Fire soul is absolutely a “hold your breath and close your eyes cause your afraid of what’s gonna happen but you open them to keep on reading” kind of book. It’s truly amazing.

The rollercoaster of emotions this book makes you go through. One moment I’m mad, the other I’m shocked, surprised, sad, mad again, stunned, mad and then utter sky surprised. Marion made this book with a build up that I can’t even describe. The way everything comes together, bit by bit, and you don’t even expect it to end the way it does… wow.

Yet again, the build up is truly amazing. The characters are so real and them, you actually feel as if they are real. Great writing. The storyline and plot is incredible. I need everyone to read this.

Thank you to the author and her team for the ARC of this book. I can’t wait to read more of Marion 🖤

I received an ARC of this book and with this you can expect my voluntarily and honest opinion about this book.

Yet again our sassy and scheming lead has done it again. The emotions I felt while reading this book were on another level, let me tell you that. I just didn’t want it to end. How Marion keeps coming with these stories is still a mystery to me.
And do not get me started on the ending!

The Fire Soul - part 4 of the Court of Elves series - will be out February 28th.

Can I give this more than 5 stars?

Ms Blackwood proves once again why she is one of my absolute favourite authors. Kenna is as devious and scheming as ever, and I loved the message in both the intro and the acknowledgements, which, reflecting on the book, really was represented in a very subtle yet extremely effective way - so many things/people/situations have tried to bring us down, but we're still standing. Honestly, I really needed this message, and the hope this book inspired in me to keep moving forward.

I will be completely honest, I didn't think I would find another book/series to rival Ms Blackwood's Oncoming Storm series, but I shouldn't be surprised since this masterpiece is also if her creation. The two series are not linked, but either one you pick, you will not be disappointed - personally, I recommend both! I highly anticipate the next volume!

Oh my goodness.

Ok so to start off with, I received this book as an ARC copy. And I want to thank author Marion Blackwood profusely for the opportunity.

I am in absolute awe. I finished this book in 5 hours. I absolutely could not put it down. Booktok is absolutely sleeping on this series.

Kenna is one of the sassiest, most badass female leads I’ve ever encountered. She gives me some serious Aelin vibes. I love her so much. Her sacrifices, her scheming and blackmailing, and her fight to not only kill Volkan but to take the Court of Fire for herself… wow. Ambitious and cunning.

The chemistry between her and Mordren is perfection. Her connection to all of the other characters she has built relationships with, perfection. Her kindness and compassion to Idra, the redeeming arc with Evander, there is so much going on these books that I am absolutely in love with.

I cannot wait for the next book. I need to know how this ends, but I have every faith in this author that the next book will be bigger and better. I read these as an ebook, but I am 100% buying the hard copies of these to add to my collection so I can read them again and again. 👌🏻

Kenna

I like that Volkan really believes that she's his slave now and will obey him.

I think Idra will betray Volkan. I've thought that since she was introduced. I also think she and Hadeon will be a pair.

Volkan forced her to break into the water prince's castle and mess things up. I'm glad she just found him instead and told him what's going on. That's what she needs to do - let him have her go to each prince for sabotage, but actually tell the truth. It would have been smart of her to arrange for water prince to warn the others, or at the very least, to send a message to Mordren.

I kind of like the redemption story for Evander. If it's real.

There hasn't been much to think about. This is a quick read and a fun story. It's really just about her being Volkan's slave and plotting something that I'm not really aware of yet and Volkan trying to mess with Mordren. I don't dislike this storyline, but I hope she's free by the end so that other things can happen in the next book.

As with the previous books, she starts summarizing her scheme towards the end. Revealing, to me, the reader, how she was in control the while time and how all the pieces fit together. Further, again, she reveals all of her plans to the enemy. All the secrets to her scheme. Why? And she hasn't won yet either. The Oncoming Storm did things like this, but it was handled so much better somehow. I don't even remember, but I remember being excited that I didn't know things were happening until they were happening.

What happened that this author forgot how to write so well? Different editor or something? Was another person responsible for the cleverness of the previous series? I dont get it.

I like how the book ended. She killed Volkan, no longer a slave, now the Lady of fire and she has a new power. Next book is still leading up to conflict with the High Elves. Enjoyed this book. 4. But I wouldn't want to read this one again. The plot is very narrow as she's basically trapped in one location and under narrow boundaries. But once was fun.

Ranking:
-Book 3: she teams up with Mordran to kill Prince Volkan. Meanwhile, learning the family dynamic between him and his friends and meeting the high elves. They fail, and she becomes a spy/slave in his court. Huge shift in quality in this book. Very focused and intentional with every chapter. 4
-Book 4: Volkan's slave. Kenna is being used to toy with Mordren. Kenna plotting to mess with Volkan from within. 4. After book 3 because the world in book 3 was just a little bigger. It got smaller in this book.
-Book 2: Her family admits they sold her (she wasn't taken). She's all on her own. She meets Valerie and Theo. She plays games with Mordren, and he plays back. She tricks him into buying her freedom from the Stone Prince. 4
-Book 1: Intro to the story. She helps her family pay off a gambling debt. Evander, her "mark," is secretly a spy for the princess who attempted to kill the king. 3.5

“Because when life was crumbling around you and trying it’s best to bring you down as well, it truly was good to have friends..”

Following the events of The Beautiful Liar, Kenna, once again, finds herself as a slave to the Court of Fire. Unlike her previous arrangement at the Court of Stone, Prince Volkan does everything in his power to break her.

Simultaneously, the High Elves begin plotting against the courts with the help of none other than Prince Volkan. Kenna’s mission is simple. She needs to take control of the situation and ensure that their plans don’t happen.

With the help of old friends, former foes, and new friends, Kenna is determined to complete her mission. But will her plans be enough or will Prince Volkan break her completely?

The Court of Elves series just keeps getting better and better. Kenna, in my opinion, has always been such a strong and fantastic character. In this book, readers are able to dive into the mind of a master blackmailer/spy. Her plans are always so thorough, thoughtful, and just genius. Kenna is by far one of my favorite characters.

In fact, all of the characters in this series, even the unlikeable ones, are just incredible. Mordren, Hadeon, Eilan, Ellyda, Valerie, and Theo are such a great group. Again, I absolutely love the Court of Shadows and their dynamic. Additionally, Idra has slowly become one of my favorites. Such an amazing character.

Everything about this book was incredible from the world building to the amazing plot. I genuinely have so much love for this series and will forever recommend it.

I made the mistake of starting this book at night before bed thinking that I could read for a couple of hours, and then finish it the next day...that definitely did not happen! I could NOT put this book down. At the end of book 3 we see Kenna surrender herself to the Fire Prince, and this book picks up right after those events. Ms. Blackwood once again gives us a book full of schemes, suspense, twists and turns, and all around exciting adventure. The Fire Prince is truly evil and arrogant, and it's amazing to see Kenna as she tries to best him throughout the book. I was doing silent (because it was midnight) fist pumps (rather aggressively) for all of chapters 38 & 39, when all I wanted to do was jump up and down with excitement. We get more scenes and insight into the mystery of the High Elves' visit to the Continent. And Mordren...*swoon*, I'm pretty sure I love him even more after this book! Every thing about this book was amazing, and I cannot wait for book 5! You need to read this series!

"You are stunning when you scheme, you ruthless little traitor spy."

She did it. Marion Blackwood left me speechless again but this time in a little good way. I went in this book very nervous and with Very very high expectations and the author didn't disappoint.
I told you that it's Kenna's world and we're just living in it. The blackmailing, the spying she does is freaking amazing! The way she's able to collect favours from almost everyone is beyond explanation.
And that last tournament left me with eyes wide and mouth open. I didn't expect her to do that and then act to lose and then shove the sword through her and into Volkan! I genuinely wanted to bow down to Marion at that moment.
And what can we say about the chemistry between Prince Mordren and Kenna. It's still that much high. I Loved Idra! I knew that Kenna will gain her trust because she's Kenna. Period. Not Kenna but Lady Kenna Firesoul. Her coronation is probably going to be my favorite part in all of the books.

3.5 ⭐️
Such an addictive read with all the plotting and scheming! I love Kenna’s drive to accomplish her goals and commitment to herself and her friends.

I loved knowing more about Idra, as heartbreaking as it was getting to learn about her past and I’m looking forward to more involvement from her as a character. Her, along with Mordren’s inner circle are such enjoyable side characters!

The back and forth and repetition of events/scenes, with Mordren and Volkan especially, got a little frustrating to read, even though it was explained why they happened the way they did at the end. I understand now that is was all part of the plan so to speak, but I did find myself only skim reading the lines and reactions that were the same.

Can’t wait to see where things go from here with Kenna’s accomplishments in this book!

How is Mordren not an actual, real life man?! Omg! I so want to see that smouldering look in his eyes 😍😍

Once again, Marion has created characters that are both magical and real, characters that the reader can relate to on so many levels. She's created scenes that make the reader want to hurry to the end of the page, just so they can flip it and see what happens next, conversations that make you keep guessing what's coming (and likely guessing wrong!). All in all, this series is as much of a masterpiece as the Storm series is.
Kenna is an honest to the gods, kick ass woman! She's full of hopes and dreams, of anxiety and fear of failure as the rest of us. She's gorgeous and authentic and totally relatable (tiny bit of hero worship going on here I gotta be honest! 😉).
Is the next book ready yet?? I wanna know what happens next!! 😍🤩

I received a free ARC copy of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.

Wow, this series just continues to build and build! Much like her previous series, nothing is not planned. Even little details you think might not be important end up coming back into play later. This author is an excellent example of how to properly utilize the Chekhov’s Gun trope.

The characters continue to impress. I love how each new book adds on layers that build on what we already know. Nothing feels out of place or like it doesn’t belong but rather like the characters are developing organically.

Twists are this author’s speciality. Well executed twists. If you think you’re prepared for them—you’re not. And it’s glorious.

Can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you to the author for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Some small spoilers below:

I really enjoyed this! The way a lot of things came together was amazing. Everything that's been happening over the past three books just really came together well in what was an emotional roller coaster of a book! I could not put this down; I sped through it in two days!

I enjoy the author's writing style and character work a lot. There's so many friendships to root for and just so much scheming and plotting to be immersed in. I loved seeing more of the Court of Fire. It was very interesting. My one teensy complaint is that I wish there was more Mordren and more Kenna-Mordren scenes but I'm hoping we'll get more of that in book five!

The Fire Soul is the perfect continuation of a phenomenal series.

I feel so lucky I received an ARC of this book because I was dying to know what would happen to Kenna after book 3.

This book kept me on my toes the whole way through as the main character kept surprising me with her plotting and wit. Kenna is intelligent, funny and her story is told in such a fantastic way which has you wanting more and more.

This book sees Kenna deal with a darker threat than she’s ever seen and she will have to use every skill in her arsenal if she is to survive.

Action packed. More romance. Betrayal. Poison. Combat. This book had it all!

I didn’t want this book to end, I’m not kidding, the minute I read the last line of “The Fire Soul” I wanted to throw my phone at wall. How am I supposed to recover from this book hangover!

This book was more than just a freaking amazing suspenseful ride, it was a book about facing something or someone who tries to thoroughly break you, and finding the strength to face it head on and not give up. A strong message that I think we all need to hear. I don’t know how I’m going to wait till the next book is out but until then my mind will be more than happy to replay the events that took place over and over again lol

Love this series

I absolutely love Marion Blackwood books. This is the second series of hers that I buy, yes, I could get it on Kindle unlimited but I need to own them. Kenna is a wonderfully strong character, she's passionate, loyal and smart. Thank you Marion for getting Kenna and Mordren together. He is delightfully wicked and I love the loyalty he inspires from friends as well as his brother. Volkan was the perfect evil prince, there was a brief moment he was humanized but then he decided that only he mattered. Kenna had some issues to solve as well. I have book 5 but I'm trying to decide f I should hold off reading until we're closer to book 6.🤔

So this book is good but I’m not sure I will continue the series (at least not at this time) and it’s honestly completely based on my personal preference and probably my overall mood right now. So I cannot say anything bad about this series. I just need some damn romance in my book-life and Mordren and Kenna are taking waaay too long to get to it. Also, outside of them connecting based on their mutual, scheming ways… they’ve really not gotten to know each other much so I’m not super invested in their relationship. Hell, I thought she spent more time talking to Evander than she does with Mordren. So I’m off to get my romance fix elsewhere and may pick this back up at a later date.

Man, this book was good. It is so full of action, drama, and suspense. Kenna, girl you sure know that you are going through a lot. She absolutely has a very tough time throughout this one. It has us on the edge of our seat with all the magic that is let loose. We continue we’re we left off and it is non-stop from beginning to the end. It has scheming and plotting that just keeps you guessing who is scheming who. I loved the ending of this book and can’t wait to see what happens next. It is extremely well written and developed. This is definitely a must read as is the entire series.

She is the best EVER. This is a Masterpiece! I cannot get this out of my head. This is why I read books after books after books…for that one golden book that ticks all the boxes.

I just can’t! Don’t play with my emotions. Don’t give me these highs or lows. I can’t stand it!! And yet I cannot stop reading this series.
I am in love with Kenna. Beautiful liar. Wonderful schemer. Killing, lying, deceiving her way to power.
I freakin love it.
She is the underdog, working her way up, and once again, I am here for it!
No one can stop her.

First off - wow! Marion manages to get me with the twist, every, single time. I didn't want to put this down and if it wasn't for work and that pesky real life getting in the way, I wouldn't have. The tension, the drama, the TWIST... it was all *chefs kiss*.

The writing always pulls me in and has me so invested in these characters. I didn't expect how it ended but it was perfect and I cannot wait until book 5!

Marion Blackwood is a master story teller. I don't know if she comes up with the story as she goes or has it all planned before she writes. But either way she is fantastic. Each book of this series has had me falling even more in love with these characters and Marion as a writer.

I'm pretty sure at this point she could pull off a movie style heist in real life without any problems. I have loved this series and am eagerly looking forward to the release of the final book

Deceiving the Deceiver

This series is action-packed, so much courtly intrigue and betrayal. Kenna is a master spy, yet at times, it was hard to tell who was deceiving who. The prince of Fire was a monster who ruined lives and enslaved others. He deserved to die, but he outwitted every challenger. The rest of the court all played the game well, but they did not have as much to lose as Kenna did. Idra was a conundrum and hard to figure out. Elias is a favourite of mine. His personality and empathy were engaging. The book was fast-paced, and I was keen to read the next book in the series.

I’m done with the series now. I do still love all the characters but I’m finding the plotting tedious - not knowing the plan and just having everything explained in hindsight in big paragraphs at the end. It’s been a standard formula now in each book and it’s just not my fave. It’s sort of like an unreliable narrator? Which I dislike. You can’t really be sure if an exchange is genuine or a manipulation until the end
