Romance is rarely a simple affair-love is almost always followed by some sort of conflict. Whether you’re Plastic Man twisting yourself into knots trying to please someone, or the Flash traveling back in time to make a catastrophic 50 first dates perfect, or even a lonely robot who just can’t seem to find love unless it’s mail from a computer screen, like Red Tornado, love actually is…a pain in the 27 dresses. So in the grand tradition of these dating conundrums a la rom-coms of the ’90s and ’00s, we are proud to present eight new stories about love and trying to find it in this zany world.
Guy Gardner - don’t read either characters so no opinion on that - are they allowed to put two red-heads together? - love the calls to the original movie but also that it’s its own thing - I hope they do more with these characters Red Tornado - “bat-gpt” - … - does traya exist in this timeline lol, not caught up on red tornado lore Booster Gold - I always love a good booster gold story The Flash - he has the cosmic treadmill but hasn’t landed iris? - I can’t stand this art style I’m sorry, it’s very pretty just not for me - point was kinda stupid bc the last date was pretty perfect Constantine - I appreciate how to artist made him look British - the drawing of the Queen??? - not his bi awakening Plastic Man - ok. Wonder Woman - I get it okay me too Nightwing/Batgirl - I don’t know anymore I’m so tired I’m going to bed - They should’ve shown those “assets”
i think a lot of the stories in here are kinda fun and enjoyable but there are 2 in particular that i really think stand out. the plastic man story is very fun and the characters' relationship is really well-built. constant and annoying and incorrigible and did i mention annoying flirt meets woman who is having absolutely NONE of it. He's a character that can feel very surface level that is inherently pushed beyond that in this story, and all of the interactions and writing is really fun! but the real showstealer is john constantine's. every other story in this issue is either het, or about the absence of a romantic relationship(choosing to just be friends, wanting to hang out with your friends on valentines day instead of a date). so constantine's seems to be the same, setting up small john's antics with his friend and being very funny and ridiculously absurd until john suggests that they solve his friends problem(he hasn't been kissed before) by kissing each other. and he has a realization. and then immediately after his oh my god i wasn't expecting that realization, they jump back into one final page of silly before absolutely sucker punching you. i won't spoil it, but the constantine story is insanely good. if nothing else, read that. incredible story.
Overall it was cute. Most of the stories were cute and enjoyable. The Guy Gardner I thought was particularly good, but also liked the Booster Gold, Red Tornado and Plastic Man stories.
