Unbroken was the beyond perfect conclusion to Luke and Embry's breathtakingly beautiful and emotional story. I couldn't have asked for anything more than what I got from these characters in this book. They wowed me, they awed me, they literally gave me it all in this book. Unbroken completely solidified my fierce love for their characters, their heart squeezing story, and every thoughtfully crafted feeling, emotion, and experience I got with them in this phenomenal book. I have no doubt that their story in this book will stay with me in some way, shape, or form for some time to come, and even though it's only January, I know this will be one of my favorite books/series I read this year.
This book is that good. It's that fulfilling. It's that romantic, that filled with feels, that emotionally heart squeezing. It's everything. I am telling you that you will literally feel, experience, live and practically breathe everything that Luke and Embry do in this book. You'll feel it all, and you'll love it even when it hurts, because it's them, and it's real, and it's intense as all get out. All throughout this book you know that what they share is so beyond worth it, so worth fighting for, and so worth risking everything for, and that makes this book even more fulfilling because it gives you all of that and more.
The events of Unbroken pick up right after the events of Undone. You're thrown right back into the emotional thick of it, and it just works because after how Undone ended I so needed to know what was going to happen next. I needed more Luke and Embry in my life stat, and this book delivered that on all accounts. The events of Unbroken find both Luke and Embry reeling from what happened in the last book. They're both sporting some very heavy broken hearts, and they both crave each other like the they're the oxygen they need to breathe. The events of Unbroken force Luke and Embry to really examine what went wrong, their own missteps in it all, and the glorious possibilities of what might happen if they give it all another chance.
Just like Undone, Unbroken is a book about a lot of things. It's about pain and secrets, and the life changing consequences of both of those things. It's about hope and healing, and the fight you have to go through to see the light that those two things bring. It's about forgiveness and strength and the fiercest determination and fight, and the amazing things that can happen when you have all of those things in your corner. It's also about love. Soul reaching, heart melting, emotionally beautiful love, and the power and influence that love can have on you. It's about looking that love square in the face and deciding if it's all worth it, if it's worth the risks and the fear of the unknown and the possible heartbreak. It's about the possibilities of that love and the mesmerizing, intense, and utterly beautiful places that love can take you if you only give it a chance to.
Unbroken literally gave me everything I needed from Luke and Embry, and I truly can't say that enough. Even thought it hurt my heart so many times reading this book because of what those two go through within its pages, and there were many instances where I felt on the verge of tears and heartbreak right along with them, all throughout Unbroken I was with Luke and Embry and it truly doesn't get better than that. I was with them, hurting and healing and fighting and hoping with all I had just like they were. That level of connection was everything to experience, and it had me even more emotionally invested in them as I read the engaging and utterly captivating events of this book.
I think one of my favorite aspects of this book was getting into both of these dynamic and unforgettable characters heads, and being there through their evolution and emotional journey in Unbroken. I was thrilled at getting to see both of their perspectives, and this just strengthened the connection I felt towards their characters. I got them, I understood them, and felt immensely for them because I was able to understand all of their thoughts, feelings, and choices. I got why things were hard for them, I understood their fears and their hopes and everything in between, and all throughout this book I felt with them as they both tried to put the pieces of themselves and their relationship back together.
R.E. Hunter does an outstanding job of showing all that Embry and Luke go through, what they fight for, and all that they put on the line to try and be together in this book. Her writing brings it all to life in the most all-feeling and consuming way. I am telling you that the more you read this book, the more you will love and root for Embry and Luke and their journey together. You will love them, root for them, and care for them so fiercely with all you heart as they try to make it all work and get back to a good place.
I think one of my favorite aspects of this book and what their characters go through in this book is that neither Luke or Embry were afraid to take culpability for their actions. They both made some not so great choices that effected them both, and they both did and said things that they regretted, and even more they admitted it. They owned up to their mistakes, they fought with all they had to make it better, and even when they made a misstep or did something they'd later think back on as they evolved together, they never stopped being them, being honest, and being real people who tried to fix what they did wrong. They were honest and vulnerable and felt and experienced the most breathtaking level of emotion, and through it all they evolved, grew, and changed into some pretty amazing people. (Not that they weren't already amazing, but they truly just got better.) They were flawed and made mistakes, but they tried their best to make it right, and that made them even more real, and even more golden in my eyes.
This book had all of the wonderful aspects of Undone that once again enraptured me from start to finish in Luke and Embry's beautiful and heart squeezing love story. It had the same charm and effervescent spark that flew off the page. It had so many moments that melted me, had me swooning and blushing simultaneously, and had me smiling like a fool in the best possible way. There were so many times in this book when I didn't know what would happen next, when I was shocked and awed by it all and all that I was getting from Luke and Embry. There were so many instances when I wasn't sure if my heart could take much more, yet I just kept reading and kept basking in every immensely feeling moment they gave me because as much as it hurt me at times, it made me all better and insanely happy at others. It also had the absolute best level of varied and extremely well captured emotion and feeling that felt almost tangible while I read this book.
I also can't say enough good things about the supporting characters in this book. I love them all to pieces, and I want more of them in my life this very second. They were just as fantastic as before, and they added another amazing layer to an already outstanding story. Jeremy, Brett, and Morgan filled my heart immensely in this book with what they gave me. They were just as easy to love as Embry and Luke, and I heart them all to pieces.
Suffice to say this book had it all. It had the characters, the story, and the writing to make this another extraordinary read that hit it out of the park in every single way possible. R.E. Hunter's all feeling and beautiful writing once again crafted a story filled with everything that makes a book exceptional to read. I needed this book in my life after what she started in Undone, and she truly delivered on it all in Unbroken.
Luke and Embry are two all-around amazing characters that completely won my heart over even more in this book. He's still a southern charmer, and she's still a determined gem, and reading the two of them try to put it all back together again was everything. It was beautiful and romantic and filled with so much heat and connection, and even though it broke my heart more times than I can count, it literally gave me it all, and that everything was everything.
I seriously can't recommend these books to you enough. They are outstanding and amazing and phenomenal in every way, and you need to read them because it doesn't get better than what this book and its predecessor give you. So read these books. Please. Let them amaze you with all that they have. Luke and Embry are so worth it. Trust me.
