Overall, a great collection of the history of a sport with a vast (yet troubling) history. Although I can appreciate F1 and Maurice Hamilton for their overview, it’s clearly not well-organized to include colour around all major events, shifts, additions, and exits. To be honest, this is as close to a corporate history lesson as you will ever get…as they go incredibly dense in the early years but don’t spend much time explaining the details surrounding the major shifts, scandals, and challenges faced by the sport from the 2000’s forward.

Essentially, this book is great for people who want to know the bones of history regarding F1. If you want more context and understanding, you will have to look elsewhere.

(P.S. - Really, this is more of a 3.5/5 but 3 seemed way too harsh so I went with 4. Hey Goodreads tech development team, you should update this rating system. How is it that you can report the overall rating as varied (currently 4.61 before I posted this) but I can’t give it my honest rating by use of “half?” Come on, man.

Gaining new fans year on year, F1 is one of the fastest growing sports despite having been around for 75 years. This book is a great introduction to Formula 1 covering major moments throughout the history and legendary drivers which most modern day fans would never have the opportunity to hear about.

Long-time F1 fans might find this book a bit too basic with it only grazing over topics and time periods; but for the newer fans (or just those who haven't looked into the history) this book provides just the right amount of content at an accessible pace.

The must have for new fans to F1.
And some lovely images which will make even the most die hard Formula 1 fan smile.
