Rich’s son Ryan finally graduates from law school and is anxious to start practicing law. When Ryan hears of this he remembers that his father has written a true crime book about the murder of Martha Collins, his mother's aunt. He tells Amanda about the book and she is ecstatic with the prospect of it being her first placement. She suspects it is because it contains some incriminating evidence against one or both of them.

While Amanda schemes to get Rich’s book published, Matt Coleman petitions the court to overturn his conviction for bankruptcy fraud, now that everybody knows he was set up for the crime. Besides clearing his name he wants to get his law license back. Rich tries to help him as he wants Matt to begin a crusade against predatory mortgage lenders who he believes are pillaging consumers all across the nation. The need to get Matt reinstated becomes more urgent when a client comes in with a great case for the firm to prosecute and Rich lines up a mole in Reliable Mortgage Servicing, the loan servicing company involved, and wants to help bring them down.

Matt, still grieving his first wife Lynn's murder two years earlier, finally strikes up a relationship with the owner of an escort service named Candy. The relationship starts off slow but eventually blossoms into a full blown love affair. But just when he thinks he is finally getting his life back on track, Candy is kidnaped and Matt fears she's going to suffer the same fate as Lynn

In UNCONSCIONABLE, lawyer Rich Coleman has two sons -- Ryan, who just graduated from law school and Matt, a former lawyer who was convicted of bankruptcy fraud. Matt's conviction was overturned and he is now on a mission to get his law license back. Rich hopes Matt will join his crusade against predatory mortgage lenders.
Meanwhile, Ryan's girlfriend Amanda, who also graduated from law school, is seeking to become a literary agent. Ryan tells her about a true crime story written by his father about the murder of his mother's aunt. Intrigued, Amanda wants to get the story published and cement her first book deal. But, Rich does not want that to happen.
Throw in the murder the Matt's first wife Lynn and his new relationship with escort service owner Candy Kane, you got one heck of a legal thriller.
To me, the main story was the mortgage lenders. I could clearly envision the scenarios that were written and imagine how I would feel or what I would do in those cases. Author William Manchee did a wonderful job in making it a gripping read. Normally, I would not think of mortgage lending as an intriguing plot line, but Manchee proved me wrong. But, I LOVE legal thrillers.
Manchee does an excellent job with character development and keeping the pace of the story. It never gets too dull. It also never gets too complex that you lose sight of what's going on.
One thing that I was worried about is that this is the third book in the Rich Coleman novels. I was very concerned that I would not understand what was going on, but was pleasantly surprised that I did not need the first two books. One thing I will say, those first two are on my "to read" list.
The bad side of this book was a large amount of grammatical errors. Words were missing, wrong words were used. That would usually send up big red flags for me, but I was able to overlook them and keep on reading.
If you like legal thrillers, definitely get this book. All in all, 4 out of 5 stars.

I won this book from Goodreads giveaways. It took so long to get this that they sent me another of William Manchee's book, "Plastic Gods", which was nice.
This is the 3rd in the series of the Rich Coleman family, although you do not have to read the first two as the author gets you up to speed in the beginning. This one has his second son, Ryan who finally got his law degree, more involved, but the family's lives are all enmeshed. Not only is this book about conspiracy, deception and murder, but also intermingled is a great love story.
It is a very nice read and I would recommend it.

I recently reviewed another book, DEADLY DEFIANCE, written by Mr. Manchee in which I said,” The problem with this book is in the way it is written. The characters interactions lack subtlety and there is no complexity in their emotional makeup.” The same can be said for this book, plus it is even more in need of an editor. The worst example of this is when the author has the same burglary take place twice, first in Chapter 17 then again in Chapter 18. It looks like the author changed his mind, but forgot he needed to delete the earlier version. Again, all of the legal maneuvering is interesting and the plot twists keep coming, but not enough to overcome UNCONSCIONABLE’s shortcomings.

I beg to differ from all those other glowing 4-5 stars reviews. Couldn't get the rating lower than 1/5 on Goodreads, even though I'd like to give it no stars at all. This is typical of books which should normally be removed from my shelves, if not for the review I gotta write first-read program. Plain and uninteresting language. Stupid and shallow characters. Nothing more than a cheap shot at thriller which failed miserably.

The writing style in this book is very matter-of-fact, and it seems more like the author is trying to educate the reader about the mortgage crisis rather than tell an engaging story. I will admit that it was a fast-moving book so I stayed interested throughout, but there wasn't much character development so I wasn't as satisfied as I would have liked.

This is the third volume in the Rich Coleman series. I have not read the other books but William Manchee gives you all of the background you need to make this a standalone novel.

As usual with William Manchee's stories, there are multiple storylines running throughout the book. They will twist and branch off at times but they all end up working out by the end. Rich and his two sons, Matt and Ryan are all lawyers. Ryan , the youngest, has just graduated law school and wants to focus on criminal law. Matt, the older son, is trying to get his license back after having spent a year in prison. Rich gladly brings his sons into his law firm.

Matt lost his wife but has now found Candy Kane. Candy Kane runs a high-end escort (no sex) service. Ryan's love interest is Amanda who also just passed the bar but has decided to become a literary agent. Ryan tells Amanda of a book his father wrote about the scandal and murder that brought his father and mother together.

Matt takes on a client that has fallen victim to a predatory mortage lender. Their unethical actions drove her husband to suicide and caused her family to become homeless. To keep their secrets, someone is willing to kidnap and even kill people.

The best part of these books is it is like reading multiple stories at once. Mr. Manchee's experience as a lawyer adds a layer of realism to his stories. He makes it easy to understand as well so you won't feel overwhelmed by some pretty complicated issues. The book exposes some very bad practices that are occurring in the topsy-turvy real estate market of today.

My biggest drawback to this book is that I had a hard time connecting with the main characters. It is not just that they from that group of people that can basically solve 98% of their problems by just throwing money at it. It goes to their lifestyles in general. They seem to have the attitude that they are above the law at times. (Rich runs when it looks like he may be convicted. Matt broke tons of laws when he went after the man that killed his wife.)Amanda is willing to do some pretty sketchy things to promote her own career even if they are against her soon-to-be family.

So while I really enjoyed the story, I didn't particularily like the main characters. I would probably rate this book at 3.5 stars. There are a few printing glitches throughout the book and a couple of scenes that seemed to contradict earlier scenes.I would recommend this book to any fan of legal thrillers.

Won this via a Goodreads contest and think I will be sorry I've not read the other books prior in this series. The storyline sounds like something that I find fascinating.
The story picks up when his son is graduating from college with hopes of getting all 3 into the law business.
Ryan's girlfriend Amanda is heading towards being a literary agent. Knowing nothing at all about the details, this is going to be an educational read for me because I like the field.
The law business is gearing towards handling house foreclosures and companies that wrote bad mortgages for customers. I've read of this happening but now I get to find out all the nitty gritty details of behind the scenes and how one company hopes to sue another over what transpired.
Relationships also have gone through many phases as time goes on. Some are grieving over lost ones and struggling to survive, sometimes with drink and drugs.
Amanda was going to get a manuscript from Ryan's father, Rich about how his mother got off on a murder charge and it goes into detail about a death pact. She even is negotiating a deal with a NY publisher that includes a signing tour and one TV show appearance of the husband and wife.
There were revisions made that made it look like he was the murderer but the first edition is what they want published.
After Amanada finds and reads the other revisions she doesn't keep them to herself and I have to ask myself why would she want to potentially ruin others life's, so she can gain in her own?
With the discovery of a dead body the police start questioning a lot of people that could be heavily involved.
Lots of scheming on both story lines in this book to make things work right.
A fast paced drama, lots of action, travel and scheming in the housing and publishing fields have made me go out and buy the other books in the series. The style of writing has kept me interested throughout, even enough that dinner was late one day and I didn't watch late TV so I could read more.
I know the other books in the series will be just as good as they will go into more depth of what has already been summarized briefly in this one.
This is one of the top 10 favorites out of 560 this year!

This is mystery/thriller written along two major story lines. One storyline covers the mortgage industry and the deceptive practices by some mortgage businesses. Attorney Rich Coleman is hired by a client, Cindy Sharp, who blames her husband's suicide on the deceitful lies told by their mortgage servicer, Reliable Mortgage Servicing. Rich asks his son Matt to work the case since Matt is likely to have his law license reinstated soon. The father and son have their own ideas on how to dig up dirt on this mortgage company, and the suspense builds from there.

The other main storyline involves the book publishing industry. 25 years ago, Rich Coleman wrote a manuscript detailing his memories involving the death of Martha Collins, his mother's aunt. Rich's son Ryan has just graduated from law school and his girlfriend, Amanda Sherman, decides that instead of pursuing the law profession, she would like to become a literary agent. She convinces Rich and his wife to let her publish the manuscript. An alternative version of the manuscript exists, and Amanda will do almost anything to have that version leaked out to better her career and the book's sales.

I found this book intriguing and a fast-paced read. I was worried at first because the back cover contained two misspellings and two grammar errors stood out on the first two pages of the book. The majority of the book was error-free, however, and the few errors I found did not detract from the enjoyment of the book.

Do you like thrillers? How about thrillers with a legal twist? Well, if you do, then Unconscionable, by author William Manchee, is the book for you! This is the third installment of the Richard Coleman series of books and although I did not read the other two books, it was perfectly fine and not necessary.

This book revolves around Richard Coleman (a lawyer) who has two sons; Matt has a very complicated past; His first wife Lynn was murdered and now he is in a relationship with Candy Kane (yep, you saw that right!) who owns an escort service. He is also a man on a mission to get his law license back having earlier been convicted of bankruptcy fraud. He is in a bit of a hurry to get this conviction overturned, because his dad has a case that he wants to prosecute against Reliable Mortgage Servicing who they feel are using unlawful predatory practices to get customers all over the world. While Matt fights his conviction, his dad Rich places a mole inside the mortgage lending company – which may prove to be detrimental to their family, and most especially to his new girlfriend Candy who has now been kidnapped.

The other son Ryan has just graduated from law school along with his girlfriend Amanda. Amanda wants to become a literary agent and becomes very intrigued by a story that Ryan tells her. His father Rich had written a crime story at one time that was about the murder of his wifes’ aunt Martha – and Amanda sets out to get it published to help her career. However, Ryans dad Rich does not want any part of it; but this doesn’t keep Amanda from scheming to get it done!

Not only is this book about intrigue and murder, but there is also a great love story mixed in there. There are many small stories going on and I found myself re-reading some chapters to make sure I kept up. Not a biggie! I still really liked the book and found it very enjoyable.

I just finished reading Unconscionable by William Manchee. This is third book in the Richard Coleman series. Now i have to read the first 2 books in the series, so reading the third is something I usually would never do, I was interested in it, and when I was given a copy to read, I thought why not. And I was not disappointed. This book is a thriller with a legal plot, added to the whole family drama. Rich Coleman is a lawyer, with 2 sons. His one son, Ryan, is a recent graduate from law school and his other son, Matt, who has some issues and was convicted of bankruptcy fraud. He has gotten the convictions over turned and is now trying to get his license reinstated.

Rich wants to go after the mortgage industry and wants is son on is side. While Matt is trying to get his license back, Rich has infiltrated the mortgage company, when suddenly, Matt's new girlfriend, Candy Kane, who runs an escort service, is kidnapped.

While all of this is going on, the other son's girlfriend, Amanda is becoming a literary agent. OECD upon a time ago, Rich had written a crime story about the murder of his wife's aunt. Amanda is determined to have to book published, despite Rich adamantly against it.

There is no need to worry about being able to keep up, with not reding the other books, as this books feels like a complete novel in itself, while tying into the complete series. The author does a great job of detailing each character for people who might not be familiar with the other books. The book is thrilling grabs your attention right away. It is a wonderful read that will include a thriller, drama, with even a it of love added in.

This is #3 of the "Rich Coleman" novels, but "Prelude" briefly describes the main plot lines of the previous books. I don't believe that it is necessary to have read books 1 & 2 to follow the plot in this book.

Rich Coleman is a Texas attorney who crossed the line in his chosen field. His sons are also lawyers. Matt, a bankruptcy lawyer, has paid a very heavy price for his practice. Ryan, who has just graduated from law school, wants to only take "clients who are innocent or who had a good reason for the crimes they committed."

The author's dedication says it all.
To all the millions of Americans who tasted the dream of home ownership only to have it turn into a nightmare of unfathomable grief and despair.

Mortgage crisis, foreclosure, and bankruptcy are all too common these days. Unfortunately, there are people who are using this catastrophe to make money. These three attorneys wade through the scams and swindles to help their clients get legal redress.

This novel has a great plot line, but it did get too complicated at times. Chapter 17 & 18 are a prime example. 'Unconscionable' seems to be written in the style of the old hard-boiled detective novels with terse words and scenes.

This is honestly not the type of book that I normally read, but I truly enjoyed every moment of it anyway. I haven't read the first two installments in the series so I was very happy to see a prelude that described the basic events of the first two books. Additionally, the author was able to convey the past as a part of this book so that it was easily read as a standalone book. I did notice a few spelling and punctuation mistakes, but nothing that bugged me a lot. I only mention it because this is a huge pet peeve of mine. The story and the characters were entertaining and attention pulling from the beginning. I loved the fact that the story action started quickly so that I didn't have to read a ton of boring set up chapters. Turns and twists were thrown in along the way that always left you thinking about where the story was headed next and whether you were right about who did what and why. My one and only real complaint is that I hated Amanda from the beginning of the book. She seemed standoffish from the very beginning. If the author was hoping to allow for sympathy or empathy from the reader by the end of the book, I felt like more should have been done to make her seem more personable and less selfish-self serving justifications and rationalizations just don't work well for me. Overall, I thought the book was engaging in more ways that one and I would happily read more work by this author.

Unconscionable is the third book in the Rich Coleman series. The story starts off with Ryan, Rich Coleman's son graduating from law school. The next thing, Ryan has to do is take the bar exam. Ryan is also in a relationship with his college mate, Amanda Sherman. Amanda decided she wanted to be a publisher agent than a lawyer.

Matt, Rich's oldest son, is trying to get his life back in order. He still grieves his first wife's Lynn's murder and would love to get his license back to practices law. Unfortunately in the prior books, Matt has been convicted of a crime that he was coerced to take the blame to save Lynn but the party involved killed her.

The Coleman's family now, need to prosecute Reliable Mortgage Servicing for fraud and misrepresentation to their clients. Not only are they involved in the mortgage crisis, the publication of Rich's book of a 25 years old murder also brings Rich as the main suspect in a murder.

As usually, there are two plots going on simultaneously: a professional and a personal life plots. I do find Rich's involvement in the murder of his wife, Erica's aunt predictable. The Reliable Mortgage Servicing plot has so many characters who can gain from the owner of the company's death. But then again, readers won't be disappointed in the Rich Coleman series.

Another great addition to the Rich Coleman Series! Rich's son Ryan graduates from law school and begins working with his dad and brother. His friend Amanda, who graduated from law school as well, wants to be a literary agent. When Ryan tells Amanda about a manuscript that his father wrote about the well known trial he was involved with, Amanda wants to publish it. After Amanda approaches Rich and Erica about the book, they both aren't in agreement about publishing it, and she feels there is more to the story than just that. While Amanda is trying to convince the Coleman's to publish their novel, Matt petitions to overturn his conviction so that he can practice law again. Matt now wants to go after the crooked mortgage lenders.

This book was exciting and full of action. I was really happy to see that both of Rich's sons now work with Rich at his law firm and that they all went into the legal field. I also like how each of the three books in this series introduces one of the Coleman boys. I also really enjoyed how this book tied up some loose ends in the first book, of who killed Martha Collins. William Manchee always includes a good bit of mystery, putting the reader at the edge of their seat wondering if they will catch the person who did it, in time. I definitely recommend this book (and series) to anyone who likes action/legal thrillers. It was fantastic!

Unconscionable is the third book in William Manchee's Rich Coleman series. It is a legal thriller with several story lines running. Rich Coleman is a lawyer and both of his sons are now working at his firm. Rich has decided to tackle the illegal practices found in the mortgage industry. This is a topic most readers have seen in the news, and Manchee does a wonderful job of explaining the illegal activities some mortgage lenders have stooped to.

The second story line involves Amanda, Ryan's girlfriend, who just became a literary agent. Ryan remembers a manuscript written by his father then allowed to go untouched for many years. The plot involved the murder of his Erica's Aunt. Amanda, after reading the manuscript submits it to a publisher who wants to publish it. This brings the murder and Rich's involvement in it back into the police's eyes. When the case is reopened and suspicion focuses on Rich, he and his wife flee the country.

Matt, who is slowly getting over the death of his first wife, has started a relationship with Candy Kane, the owner of an escort service. But Candy is kidnapped and Matt fears she may die just like his first wife did.

I enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the next book in the Rich Coleman series.

If you like legal thrillers, definitely get this book. If you liked Perry Mason and Ben Kincaid you will love Rich Coleman and his sons, Ryan and Matt, as they take on predatory mortgage lenders. The scenario is so well done that I wonder it it isn't true. I could well believe this type of crime could happen.
Mr. Manchee does a wonderful job of character development. The pace of the story is just right. It never gets to dull or slow. The story lines are understandable and interesting. You always know what's going on.
The three main story lines blend together easily. The mortgage lenders and their ruthless means to discredit and scare the people they are supposed to be helping. Amanda, Ryan's girlfriend, is trying to convince Rich to publish his novel. The disappearance of Matt's current girlfriend and the murder of his first wife add to the suspence.
This is the third book in the Rich Coleman series. I haven't read the first two but this book could stand alone. Having read this one I am definately putting the first two are on my "to read" list.

I won this book through Goodreads.com. I initially was drawn to the synopsis on the entry. I thought this was a different type of legal murder mystery and it looks really good. Well now I'm not so sure.

Although the story line gripped me, I felt there where just one too many characters to keep track of. There were a large amount of grammatical errors. That I know of this was not ARC so I don't understand why there were so many. Chapters 17 and 18 I just had a hard time with and had to reread several pages over again. I don't know if the author got confused and maybe was going to use some of the material and scratch some later on then forgot to or what happened here, but it looks like I was not the only one clearly confused about this.

Obviously the author did some massive legal research so, kudos for that. However I felt like there might have been just a tad too much added detail. Even though this is the third book in the series it is not necessary to read the previous books as the prelude offers a detailed summary to get you up to date.

Murder, Mayhem, and Mortgages! This book is great for those who love suspense/legal thrillers.

This is a book about greedy mortgage lenders and deceptive practices. It's very timely in today's economy! Cindy Sharp blames her husband's suicide on the mortgage company and their underhanded practices and hires Rich Coleman to represent her. Rich, along with his son Matt, team up to uncover the truth behind the mortgage company's practices. In addition, a second plot regarding Rich emerges as he publishes a book and becomes a suspect for a past murder.

The story leaves readers on the edge of their seats. The characters are well developed. The plot gets a bit complicated at times, but the story is very interesting and a good read!

Disclosure: I won this book on goodreads. I read and enjoyed this novel very much, but have not read the other 2 prior books in the series. It didn't seem like they needed to be read to understand this one, but perhaps that would have provided some additional background.

I won this book from Goodreads. I had not read the two previous volumes, but they were summarized at the beginning. The book has some good points. The dialogue is well done and carries the action. It gives a lot of information about the mortgage crisis and illegal practices. On the other hand, it seems like a film or more likely a Daytime Soap Opera with a 25-year-old unsolved murder, a NY Times best-seller, a kidnapping & murder-for-hire, an escort service, group sex, and an escape to Argentina! The problem is that this is a novel, not a movie. The explanations and descriptions are poorly written. The sentences ramble and include redundancies with words and ideas. Sometimes, it seems like the sentences are exercises in using a thesaurus. The characters, especially the two brothers are shallow. The end of Chapter 29 says that Richard Coleman emailed the killer's name and court presentation, but his son Matt apparently did not get the e-mail! Two woman (Erica & Shelley) were well described and consistent. It makes me think that more than one person wrote this.

Loved it! What if you ,in the middle of the recession,you make your house payment,but.. they sell your mortgage and the lies begin. The late notices, being totally unable to get it straight, your husband loses his job, and the company continues to lie to you. Why? because they intended all along to take your home. You are tossed out of your home, sleeping in the park, your things tossed out in the street and then your husband commits suicide.
Where do you go for justice? The law firm of Rich Coleman and Sons. Who,have all kinds of things brewing in their lives. Rich arrested for a 30 year old murder that his wife was aquitted for, a son just out of prison,a son's girlfriend who was willing to throw them all out of the bus for her career. Good read! And thank you to Good Reads for sending me this book for free!! William Machee is going on my must read list of authors.

I've never read any of the other books in this series. After winning this in a giveaway, the cover caught my attention so I started reading and didn't want to put it down. It's a nice twist with mortgage part. I didn't see a lot of it coming, but some yes. This was a great book dealing with law and how it described some of the things in detail. I felt like it needed a little more in places and could've added more information to some parts. I think Amanda doing things to get the book on the NYT best seller list was fantastic idea but when her relationship fell with Ryan, it never said anything about how he felt. At the end he seemed angry with her but never said how he felt through the whole court case. It might not have been as important as finding out who kidnapped Candy but it would've added more to it. Overall I think this is a great book and would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery. Hopefully will read the first and second soon!

I enjoyed listening to this novel. The only problem I have is that the narrators are talking both male and female characters parts as they read it. I wish those narrating the novel would speak only in male voices for male parts and female voices for female parts of the novel. It's hard to keep track on whose talking at times. I think I'm listening to a male character, but it's a female character in the book. And visa versa. Also this is an MP3 CD so I had to load it into my iTunes software in order to listen to it off of my iPod in the car, since it doesn't play in my car's CD player, I'm assuming because of this format?
This Mystery is enjoyable to listen and the story line easy to follow. A true crime book written years ago is finality going to get published, but not without consequences.
Note, this was a CD I won as a first read.

I have loved all William Manchee novels. Unconscionable is timely with the topic being foreclosure of a home. The family does everything the the banks tell them to do to postpone foreclosure. They are buying time because of a lost job and illness. However that is not the only story. Rich Coleman becomes a suspect in the murder of Aunt Martha. His wife, Erica, was found guilty of the murder 25 years ago. Amanda, Ryan Coleman's girlfriend tries to become a top selling Literary Agent by publishing the story of Aunt Martha. Matt Coleman, has a relationship with a woman that owns an escort service. The stories intertwine, Rich and his sons work. I enjoyed this murder mystery, with the Coleman family working together and their differences. I am also an Aunt Martha so I had an added interest.

Personally I enjoy thrillers that are as true to life as you can get. I especially enjoy those with a legal twist which is exactly what this book was about. This is the third book in the series but you will not feel like you are lost in the story line if you have not read the other two. This story is a novel in itself. The author William does a great job at really developing the characters and getting you to really know them. Regardless of your thoughts of attorney's, you see these characters as real everyday people like you and me who have similar problems. You also get a a great basic lesson in legality without loosing sight of the events. Overall a really good read that will make it hard for you to put down.

I received a copy of this book from a First Reads /Goodreads giveaway. There are well thought out characters in 'Unconscionable'. The author understands legal terms and issues and writes clearly and fluently on the subject of mortgages and court proceedings. There were enough twists and turns in this book to keep it interesting for the nearly 400 pages. I thought the murder confession and love affair between one main character and a unlikable book agent seemed far fetched. I think this writer is talented and will continue to improve with future books - an I would want to read them! Thanks for an interesting and revealing story - cheers!

This book is the third novel in the Rich Coleman series. While I haven't read the first two novels, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to really understand what was going on or be absolutely lost as far as the characters and their backgrounds are concerned- I needn't have worried as I was able to follow quite easily. Not only is this book about intrigue, murder, family drama and legal thriller but there is also a great love story mixed in. This novel contains many well developed characters that keep you guessing their motives until the end of the book. I found this book interesting, a fast-paced read and very enjoyable.
