In this follow-up sequel we get exactly what we want: more cute cats fighting demons and being buddies. It’s a delight through and through and you can vicariously live out the best dream possible: being part of a cool cat crew that is down to brawl. As my friend who recommended these to me put it, I enjoy how so much of middle grade graphic novels is just asking the question “what if there was a monster?” And the answer here is, cats will take it down. Because cats are awesome. For example:
Untitled
This is a fun, direct sequel with all sorts of zany fun. And a prison break sequence, because what is a stray animal story without vilifying animal control to chase them around with a huge net. Also, Onion is a great addition to this cat crew and this one not only gets extremely adorable but also rather emotional. I mean, I felt for that little buddy at the end. You'll see.
You get exactly what you expect here and is it worth it?
Untitled
It is.

#1 Housecat Trouble ★★★★☆
#2 Lost and Found ★★★★★

This was an absolute treasure! Buster is so precious and I loved seeing him step up and lead his own adventure, especially knowing that he was so uncertain about his own abilities but he didn't let it stop him from helping a kitten in need. Onion was such an ominous little cutie from the start, and of course, how could I not enjoy seeing the next step in Nova and Chauncey's journey? The ending made me so emotional, too — I'll fully admit that I closed the book and instantly went and found one of my cats for much-needed cuddles! ♥ I really hope the author writes more books about little Buster and his pals, but I'd also be content to see things end right here, because the ending of Lost and Found was kind of perfect.

I absolutely love this graphic novel series. It is just so fun, while making you think about things [lost pets] and is filled with amazing illustrations that will keep everyone talking [and looking for what they can find within those illustrations] along with the lessons that can be learned from this graphic novel.

Buster the cat is at it again, with his friends Nova and Chauncey and their new friend "Onion", they must help Onion find their way home all while dodging monsters, both of the imaginary kind AND the human kind. It is a really fun story to read and I cannot recommend this series enough; I think kids of all ages will love this one. I cannot wait to see what Buster and his friends will get up to next!! Well done!

Thank you to NetGalley, Mason Dickerson, and Random House Children's/Random House Graphic for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The bubbly, big-eyed felines and their colorful, surreal world are back in another high-energy, supernaturally-tinged adventure.

In this story, an unusual white kitten shows up at Buster’s house looking for help finding his way home. It’s up to Buster, along with some old pals and new acquaintances, to help the kitty they’ve nicknamed “Onion,” who seems to possess some very unusual talents indeed. What’s really going on with Onion?

(Mild spoiler alert)
Along the way, the cats are pursued by some goofy foes, both mortal and otherwise. There’s a scene in which they are captured and taken to “Animal Helpers,” which seems to be a combination shelter and vet clinic. (There’s a big spay/neuter sign on the roof.) A raggedy street cat squad busts them all out, and they spill out again onto the streets. Now, I get why cats would not have fun cooped up in such a place, but I was hoping the Animal Helpers might get some positive press somewhere in the book, rather than just the imagery of a cartoon dog-catcher guy with a net. Frankly, the Housecat Trouble neighborhood looks like it could use some animal help and spay/neuter with its large number of hungry-looking stray pets running around.
Vindication for the Helpers may come later in the series, but as readers may not have access to every book, I prefer for positive messages to be included within the same volume that real-world issues are referenced.

housecat trouble returns and i am ON THE FLOOR WEEPING. i really just love this series so much - the art is perfect and so unique, the characters are adorable, and the story did have me fully in tears by the end. there are a lot of cute kids' graphic novels out there, but one thing that stands out about this one is that when you read it you're definitely stepping into a fully developed world. the art style, the color choices, the characters and their various adversaries: the geese, the house spirits, the dogcatcher, they all work to create this very charming insular little world spanning a few city blocks. it's such a lovely effect which keeps you thinking about the story long after you finish it. overall i'm delighted with this series and will for sure be passing it on to my 8 year old niece!

Chaton mignon en cavale - Mason Dickerson
🐈🐈🐈🐈

I just finished this, and I'm still teary-eyed (happy with a touch of bittersweet tears, not sad ones - be not afraid!) and I love this series, it's so adorable and tugs at all the right heartstrings. The ending, y'all - I've had that same dream experience, and that hit me so hard, but in a good way. I don't know if this is the end of the Housecat adventures (it feels like it probably is), but I'm sure hoping to see more of Buster and friends in the future.

The second title in the graphic novel series, Housecat Trouble, is even more appealing than the first one. In fact, there are several pages that are downright poignant and will pluck at readers' heartstrings. Buster is contentedly back home with his human companion after dealing with invasive spirits. A small white cat troubles his sleep and tells him that it is lost and doesn't remember its name. Buster decides to call the kitty Onion, and helps the cat find its way home. Along the way, though, they will face a flock of fierce geese, a playful dog, a dog- and cat-catcher, and they'll run into Nova and Chauncey, Buster's friends. But Buster's efforts lead to the cats being captured and confined in kennels in an animal shelter. When they break free with the help of a cat with thumbs, they finally make their way to Onion's home. But the house is old, in bad shape, and is overrun by a spirit colony. The battle is fierce, but eventually the cats triumph, Onion deals with guilt over not taking better care of his home and remembers his name. There's a happy ending to all this as Onion (now Gus) is briefly reunited with his elderly human companion and can now rest in peace, and Buster and his human companion are also reunited. The storyline is touching, and the images of the characters, especially those cats, are perfectly rendered, highlighting their personalities and unique quirks as well as moments of insecurity. My favorite illustrations show the cats all lined up to face off against the dogcatcher after escaping from the shelter and the following one in which he's lying face down in the grass, body covered in scratches. (Yes, I know that this probably makes me sound as though I have a sadistic sense of humor, but anyone who has lived with a cat knows how wickedly effective their claws can be, slicing right through human skin as though through softened butter. OUCH! These cats, especially tender-hearted Buster, are irresistible, and reading the story may prompt some reflection about just how much cats sense about the world around them and the world that humans cannot see. Here's hoping there will be future titles in this series. Mason Dickerson has created a fascinating setting with interesting characters worth a return trip.

Huzzah!!

A new Housecat Trouble book!!

This is the news I've been waiting for!!

The story focuses, again, on a (now much braver) Buster the Cat and the adventures he has while his teal-haired human is at work for the day. But rather than battling spirits on his own turf, Buster's current quest takes him back to the city streets. This quest takes the form of a lost kitten named Onion. Buster takes it upon himself to help this little kitty get back to their person. But that quest is more complicated that it may seem. Along the way, . But I won't say any more than that. At least... not about the plot.

So... the verdict? I absolutely adored the first Housecat Trouble and was ecstatic to learn there would be a second! A small part of me was a little concerned, initially. I mean, the first book was so cute and so fun... How could a sequel possibly top it? But if anything, this next book is even better! We get to revisit familiar characters, meet new ones, and enjoy the ride of a whole new adventure. And, just like the first book, there are TONS of Feels packed into this story! I may have had an "I'M not crying, YOU'RE crying" moment there at the end. Just forewarning...

This book made my day even better. And I can't wait to see what Buster's next adventure will be! (I hope there are more) And Chaunsey and Nova too! I want more!!

Housecat Buster is about to have another epic adventure with his alley cat friends Chancey and Nova. It all starts with the appearance of a stray kitten at Buster's house. The kitty knows he's lost. But he's got zero memory of his name or how he got lost. All he knows is that he lives in a black painted house next to the town water tower. Join Buster and Onion, that's the name Buster gives the kitten, as they dodge ornery geese, hungry pups and one big, bad dogcatcher in hopes of reuniting the missing cat with his owner!

This is the second book in the Housecat Trouble series. I didn't realize that until I got about a third of the way through this story and by then, I was hooked. You don't have to read that first book in order to follow the action in this 2023 graphic novel. But it helps! Creator Mason Dickerson does a really good job of keeping new readers informed. But there's such a complexity and lore established with elements of the plot that reading book one is something that a younger reader might benefit from.

I was so engrossed with the characters, I had to skip ahead to the end to make sure none of the kitties in this book were injured d or died. Yes, I know that LeVar Burton would be sorely disappointed in me for this. But when it comes to adorable animals, I can't stand to see them come to harm. Real or illustrated!

Now to dig into elements of this graphic novel that might be objectionable to parents without revealing too much of the plot. For one thing, there are inter-dimensional beings that are trying to enter our world. It's a house cat's job to prevent these creatures from taking over a family's domicile. With Onion lost from his house, those monsters have been running rampant. These things aren't very scary. But when Onion finally confronts them, he unleashes a fury that can be a little unsettling, even to an adult reader!

As for Onion, there's something unusual about that pure white kitten. He can disappear without warning. When he reappears, he's usually found from a great height that Buster and friends can't figure out how that little guy does it. I don't want to go too much into detail without spoiling the big surprise. But I do think parents and guardians need to be ready with some tissues as the epilogue to this volume is bittersweet.

Random House Graphic's Housecat Trouble: Lost and Found is the second work by Mason Dickerson. A native North Carolinian such as myself, Dickerson doesn't have any formal art training. So his art might seem a little rough. Yet, every character has a distinctive look and formulated mannerisms. When it comes to his story structure, Dickerson's plotting is unsurpassed. If I can get my hands on volume 1, you can be sure I'll be checking it out and getting the rest of this story!

Speaking of volume 1, Housecat Trouble: A Graphic Novel is also available in Spanish and French language editions with a recommended age range of 7-10 years.

I’m so glad that Buster and his stray cat friends are back in this second installment of Housecat Trouble. As with the first installment, the action starts at home, with Buster’s blue haired, brown skinned owner leaving the house. Buster roams the neighborhood, and finds a stray kitten whom he names Onion. He takes Onion under his wing and shows him around. A second strand of the story follows Nova and Chauncey, stray cats who are looking for Buster, as their work locating shadeberries to combat the infestation of bad house spirits must continue. These bad spirits plague humans and cats, but only cats can fight them. Alas, the dreaded animal control guy, a big hairy human with mirror aviators, catches Nova and Chauncy. Who will get them out? And why has Onion disappeared?

I loved this comical graphic novel with big hearted cats just trying to survive, especially seeing them navigate their sometime alliances with dogs, rats and crows. The cats’ ‘Liberation’ plan to break their friends out of the kennel is hilarious, executed with military precision and enhanced by a cat with thumbs. The text and fresh, retro style graphic art are perfectly in sync. The visuals are full of elements that enhance the experience – trash of the gritty urban setting, onomatopoeia, and emanata help keep the feel of an action/adventure movie. I love the pastel colors and rounded corners of the panels and images. The cats are such old souls that I think this series has appeal for lots of readers, whether they are into cats or not.

This book teared me up at the end, literally. The title goes perfectly with the story, lost and found. Onion, who was lost for a long time, came to Buster to seek for help. In the end, we find out that his name is actually Gus, but he had died a long time ago and his human had to move to a retirement home, yet his "soul" remained at the house protecting it as what he did when he was alive.

It breaks my heart to think that someday, my cats too will have a death day. To think that cats love their humans so much that they could remain in the home they have known all their lives and continue to protect it even though it's so rundown. Home is such a beautiful place, especially when your loved ones are there healthy and happy. I hope the time my cats stay with me will be the happiest they will ever become and I hope that they know my love for them is unconditional, forever.

I also love the ending where not only Buster was able to go back home, but Nova and Chauncey as well after being lost outside for a long time. This book, overall, closed off a good story of friendship and what home is.

Housecat Buster has it made for him, food anytime, a good master, and lots and lots of cat naps. One evening a cat appears, and Buster is confused about where they came from. When the next day comes, and Buster’s owner leaves for work, Buster and Onion (the new cat’s name) travel outdoors to find Onion’s home. They meet up with Nova and Chauncey again and find out that the spirits are back. When they all find Onion’s home, it’s up to the three of them to help and rescue Onion in a house where spirits have taken control.
Fun and lighthearted, the second adventure for Buster is amazing as the first. With purple spirits taking control of the town at night, Buster and their friends do their best to save everyone. Something is mysterious with Onion, and flyers for missing cats are placed around town. I loved the art style the author has done this in and the bright colors they use. It’s a quick and enjoyable read, and I’m ready for the third installment of Buster and company.

This is a delightfully heartwarming story for being about cats that fight ghosts (spirits)! The art style is still an acquired taste, but I love how wholesome even the dog fight is! I know I always worried when my family would let the cat wander outside, even if we were in a low-traffic area, but there are still... THINGS outside, as this book illustrates! D:

The epilogue is the best thing, too! Recommended for fans of the first book; newcomers CAN read it but may be confused about some of the past references.

Buster is at it again and the team of cats has grown. The mission has changed, but the hi-jinx's and fun are all here. I actually think I enjoy this book a tad more then the first...and usually sequels are a dip from the original outing. Buster is trying to get Onion (the new cat) home...and what ensues is lots of adventures. The art is great again and I might say maybe a little cleaner (more space between objects which makes it more appeasing to the eye) and the story is another great one. Who knows if further adventures may be available for Buster and the gang. Its a great series for kids and adults alike.

Housecat Trouble: Lost and Found by Mason Dickerson is a really cute graphic novel about a lost kitty. This is the second book in the series. It’s a wonderful story about helping others and family. Buster, Nova, and Chauncey help the little kitty find his way home. Oh no! They were captured by the dog catcher, and they all had to work together to escape. Onion, the lost kitty has disappeared. Will they find him? Several endearing twists at the end. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for the ARC

This is the second in the Housecat Trouble series of intermediate grade graphic novel by Mason Dickerson. This time we follow Buster through six chapters as he befriends another cat he names Onion who seems to be lost and unable to find his way home. Their attempt to find Onion's home leads them on an adventure which involves escaping from other animals, an animal shelter and a crazy exploding house. Dickerson's panels capture a lot of action and provide many visual moments to support and extend the text.

Buster is back and in more trouble than ever!

In the second installment we are following Buster as he helps his new friend Onion get home. On the other side of the neighborhood, we are following Nova and Chauncey as they are still fighting the spirits.

I liked how the two story lines eventually converge, and bring the gang together again. I still really like the art style and how colorful it is.

Also, this one hit me in the feels and I might have cried.

I really hope there is a volume 3!

When Buster the cat finds a lost kitten in the house, Buster calls it Onion and they try to find its home, but the search turns into quite an adventure as they find themselves in a yard with a dog, running from the dogcatcher, and getting help from some "otherworldly" cats.

Manga style illustrations and a magical story make this easy to read graphic novel a hit with either upper or lower elementary. I loved the darling cats with their different personalities. The story had plenty of twists which will keep the readers engaged.

I’ll admit this was a pretty cute continuation of the first book. I even found myself laughing at one point, which I really didn’t expect since I wasn’t the biggest fan of book one. And though it’s not like this sequel changed my mind about the series overall, I can still say it’s a series I could see a young reader deeply enjoying. In that regard, I know I’d be happy to recommend it to young cat lovers in search of a new book.

This was cute! The art truly carried it because it was pretty much just a repeat of the first book. It's like "what if the first book had slightly different characters and they went different parts of town?" So in that way it let me down. The characters were surface level and predictable. Truly this was just a cute lil book to read to pass the time. I liked all the lil depictions of the cat and bugs and houses in town. It was honestly just an adorable art style.

One night a lost kitten appears in Buster's house. He promises to help him find his way home. The kitten disappears several times on the journey. With the help of his friends, Buster manages to find the kitten's house and rid it of spirits. I feel like I missed out on a good story by not reading volume 1. #HousecatTroubleLostandFound #NetGalley
