He was convinced that soulmates, true love, and forever were just fairy tales. But then he met her.
Amelia McCall has her sights set on her dream job, but it seems like fate is determined to ruin her chances. After a difficult day and a confrontation at the grocery store, she finds herself in an argument with the person responsible and is required to leave. And when things couldn't get any worse, she ends up in the emergency room after a biking accident, only to discover that the man she argued with is actually her doctor. He's Bossy. He's stubborn. He's controlling. He drives her insane. And he also manages to make her heart race.
Dr. Kent Johns is someone who enjoys being in control. Whether it's in the fast-paced emergency department, at home, or even in the bedroom, he always gets his way and never backs down. That is, until he meets Amelia McColl and she throws a wrench into his perfectly organized life. She was meant to be his last-minute date for sister's wedding, but Kent quickly finds himself wanting more from her than just a one-night stand. Before he knows it, he is falling deeply for her.
Doctor Bossy is the second book in the Mercy Medical Emergency series. All books can be read as stand-alones.
When 23-year-old Amelia McCall and her partners in crime, friends Isla Jefferies and Stella Yates, decide to meet, they can be found at The Diamond, a favorite meeting spot for the 3 ladies who are finding their way in the business and social community of Vancouver. And while catching up over a drink, the friends also spend time pointing out men whose body language shouts “trouble.”
The three friends have discovered through experience that Vancouver is ground zero for a certain caliber of men who seek a woman to meet all their desires, but who in turn, are incapable of engaging in a real relationship. And so, the women routinely lament the disappointing and unfulfilling men of Vancouver, hoping for better options. And so, Amelia, with chestnut hair that falls in soft waves, who often offers a quick smile that lights up the room, views the bar’s male occupants with her big hazel-brown eyes that seem to see right through those vapid men, quickly rejecting the glances they cast in her direction.
But now, Amelia’s greatest concern is not the disappointing men of Vancouver. Rather, she is in an evolving and growing workplace crisis. As a recent college graduate with a business degree focus in advertising, Amelia was thrilled to join Adam Bishop’s PR team at Creative Seed Marketing. But now, months after joining the firm she can see that the company needs a course correction.
And so, to try to achieve a better work/life balance, and with the encouragement of her ladies, Amelia accepts a date through a dating ap—the date, an avid biker invites Amelia to meet him Saturday morning for a bike ride through trails of a local park. However, in short order, both dating app matches regretted their meeting—the man is a serious biker and Amelia is, at best, a casual rider with little desire for a challenging ride.
So, when she takes a hard tumble from her expensive rented bike, the apparent avid biker, assuring her that while her abrasion appeared messy, it would not kill her. And with no offer of assistance, he quickly cycles on, offering no help. Calling one of her girls, she is assisted to Mercy Hospital—the current bane of her ad firm. And to Amelia’s delight, the attending ER doctor is a patient’s dream.
Once more Grace Maxwell shares with her readers the engaging world of Vancouver, the care and healing influence of the staff of Mercy Hospital, and an engaging set of friends and family connected to that world. I look forward to the next member of the Mercy Medical Community! I received a free copy for review, but also purchased a copy for my growing collection of Grace Maxwell's Mercy Hospital romances.
I received a free review copy, but eagerly purchased copy from Amazon.
Book two in Grace Maxwell’s Mercy Emergency Medical series is one of the best written books in this genre. And that’s both good and bad. It’s good because the writing brightens a familiar yet predictable story and brings the reader such well-crafted lines as,
“Tomorrow, I promise the shadows dancing across the ceiling. Tomorrow will be better. But the optimism tastes sour, a half-hearted lie meant to soothe a soul that knows better.”
And, “My phone lies inert on the coffee table, a silent sentinel. I’m restless, a low simmer of frustration bubbling beneath the surface.”
And, just one more: “Never have I been with a man so perfectly connected to me, as if our bodies are singing the same soulful tune.”
I must admit these lines jump off the page, bringing definition and color to the story. And it’s a good story, well worth the four (and a half) stars I’d give. But they take something away as well.
An important and oft-quoted bit of editorial advice is to “Murder Your Darlings,” kill a line or quote you love because it calls attention to itself and takes away from the narrative. Usually attributed to Faulkner and Stephen King, it was originally written by Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch, a 19th- early 20th century British writer who published under the pseudonym Q.
However, If you treasure good writing and a compelling tale, definitely read Dr. Bossy. Don’t let Grace Maxwell’s “darlings” get in the way. And don’t let this editor’s pet peeve keep you from a worthy story.

Kent is an ED doctor at the local Mercy Hospital. He’s your typical alpha, bossy, Playboy type, but something isn’t working for him lately. When his sister put demands of who his plus one can be at her wedding, his work is cut out for him. Then a night in the ED changes everything.
Amelia is not in a good place right now; she likes her job in advertising, but hates who and where she works, her dating light is nonexistent, and her mom is who knows where. Going to another date, a cycling date, when she falls and her leg is bleeding. The guy just leaves her, so off to the ED she goes.
Usually, I like this trope but this was just ok for me. Kent is a doctor and didn’t realize the manipulation? I picked up on that instantly. Then Amelia just blocking all communication… I’m just not into miscommunication and she was quite flaky. Then the weird vibe with Kent‘s dad and Mom.
This is still a cute story overall so give it a try. There are a few things I didn’t care for but it was fun and entertaining.

This is another enjoyable book full of characters that make your heart warm. Amelia is stuck in her job and wants to break free. Kent is beginning to question his life and if he wants something more. After an accidental meeting in the grocery store, to a bike injury that takes Amelia to the ER, the beginning of the book sets the tone. As they get to know each other and try not to talk too much about work, Amelia finds it hard to juggle getting time away from her job with getting time to spend with Kent. Like with everything that seems too good to be true, there are always hard times right around the corner. How will Kent and Amelia weather the storm...?.
1.5 stars. This is a nice, predictable, slow, romance between 2 lonely and jaded survivors of the 'swipe right' online dating wars. Amelia is a doormat - her coworkers are condescending and dismissive (why didn't she start a job search?); her mom is a lifetime of a dysfunctional mess. Dr. Kent isn't 'bossy' at all; if anything he lets his former girlfriends take advantage of their friendship including leaving Amelia when an ex has a 'crisis'. Both of them process everything through their posse of friends (tired of this plot point in these stories). There is barely a connection between these two.
I did enjoy this book but did not really feel the chemistry between Kent and Amelia. Kent was the typical love em and leave em as we can tell by his bevy of ex's turned best friends. I was just a little weary of Amelia and her interest in Kent especially with the situation of her job but to seemed to work out for them. It was good seeing Griff and Tori and Kent's parents were definitely confusing. STILL A GOOD READ and as usual Ms. Maxwell is a highly recommend author for me.

Amelia McCall and Dr. Kent Johns first encounter is not cute, it’s actually the exact opposite. And then Kent stitches Amelia after a disastrous first date cycling accident and asks her to dinner to make up for his rudeness during their first encounter.
While they clearly have chemistry, they are both tired of the dating scene, but also not expecting anything serious from each other. Yet, love has its own way of finding matches.
After a breakup, Amelia and Kent find their way back to each other and a happy ending.
Amelia, after a hard day at the advertising marketing firm, just wanted something quick to eat, and maybe a candy bar. As she stepped out of line to grab the candy bar, the man behind her got up set when she returned. Now, after a bicycling accident, she finds the same guy is now her emergency care doctor.
A bit quirky and fun.

This is Book 2 in the series and I really enjoyed it. Kent is super sweet and sexy. He’s got a wonderful demeanor about him, and I just fell for him big time. It took me a few chapters to connect with Amelia. I can’t explain why, but her character just didn’t click with me. Some of her behavior seemed rather childish when it came to her relationship with Kent. The storytelling was great. It was fast paced and very entertaining. Looking forward to Book 3!.
It took me a bit to connect to Kent, but once I did I enjoyed seeing his development during this story, a development which only happened because Amelia came into his life. The story had family dynamics, friends, ex's, second chances, work life balance, learning about themselves and going after what you want.

Kent and Amelia captured my attention and had me all caught up in them. He and Amanda had the banter and antics going in this one especially the store incident. When she is injured, it is her dominating guy from the store that takes care of her. This story had me cheering for this couple.

Sweet and passionate story. Doctor Kent has a way with the women. Amelia is no pushover. But then they meet….. the authors vision of their relationship is well written and in my minds eye.., I was there in London, Vancouver and then Dan Francisco …,,.

I wasn't a big fan of this book, it was slow reading and all over the place. I can't figure out why the title was called ( Doctor Bossy), when he was sort of bossy only one time through the whole book. Bossy means telling people or someone what to do all the time. Seems like women were telling him what to do throughout this book.
I think I enjoyed the previous books more. The title really didn’t match the book as to me Kent wasn’t bossy. Amelia, on the other hand was immature if she blocked his contacts without ever having a conversation with him. The book was way too slow for my liking and I had a hard time liking Amelia.
Honestly it was just an average read which was disappointing as it did have
The ending didn’t feel like an ending at all, it was like the author couldn’t think of anything else so just left it. The whole situation with his female friends who were his ex’s was so weird how did he not see that they still wanted him and were using him to do odd jobs! And how cold he not see how uncomfortable Amelia was in the first time she met them! potential.
Doctor Bossy is a party for the senses. From the high octane tension to the always evident chemistry, Amelia and Kent, take love and hate to a whole new level. Electric, emotion jumps off the page. Maxwell brings the heat, but she never loses sight of the heart.
This was so beautiful and loving. This guy was a player. She was the good girl. They found each other. I would recommend this to my friends and family.

I really tried to like this book, but it felt flat. I lost interest after reading Kent's POV in the second chapter. He seemed immature for someone who's supposed to be a successful doctor. Just not for me.
I enjoyed reading Doctor Bossy. Loved how Kent and Amelia first met and then crossed paths again. Enjoyed seeing them grow individually and together. Great romance!
I love Kent and Amelia together! Such a wonderful and beautiful healing love story! Soo soo good! I absolutly loved it! Can't wait for Chance and Lucy's story! 😍❤️🔥🥰
I’m loving the Men of Mercy series so much and this is only book two. We’ve met Kent before and I liked him but now that I’ve read this I’ve fallen. He’s got a great bedside manner that a lot of doctors, especially ED docs, lack. I’m really looking forward to book three next. 🖤🔥⚕️🔥🖤
My favorite quotes:
• Kent: In this moment, I know one thing for certain: no matter what my friends might say or do, what Amelia and I share is ours and ours alone. And it’s worth every second.
• Kent: “Gorgeous,” I say, but I’m not just talking about the view.
“Everything is,” she agrees, but her eyes are on me, and I realize that this moment—soaring above an island with a woman who can surprise and thrill me—is something extraordinary. Something worth savoring.
• Amelia: “Every ending is just a new beginning, isn’t it?” she muses, echoing my thoughts.
• Amelia: In that moment, with his lips curving into a smile that mirrors my own, I know that every risk, every uncertain step has led me here—to this man, to this love, to a future that gleams bright and full of hope.
