I hide in plain sight.I am a pretty face with a killer body. Literally. I kill whatever the job calls for. Women, men, I know no bounds. Why would I? I've been groomed to do this since I was a child.
Who I am?
I am a monster living among angels. After all this is over, I will redeem my actions. I will walk among those angels, fallen down on red stained leaden wings torn apart.
Who he is?
That's a secret you'll have to discover.
This is the final installment of the Bloodlines Series.
Target 84 is the 4th installment of the Bloodlines Series by K. Larsen. It can be read as a standalone, HOWEVER I highly recommend reading the series in order to get a proper background on all the characters! See below for links.
Greta…Greta, Greta, Greta! This chick is my latest girl crush. She is bad a$$ed to the bone and can kick some serious a$$! For those of you that read the rest of the series we are set back in Christiansburg, Va….where it all happens. Greta has made friends with Clara and Pepper and their whole crew. She is a secretive woman, an enigma that no one really knows. Her past haunts her…
"Ravenbrook. No one ever breaks free."
….but she stay strong, no matter what!
"I will not show weakness. I will not cry."
You will be shocked by what Greta has been through. The way she grew up just isn’t normal. My heart broke for the child that she was. When a part of her past catches up with her it may very well be her undoing.
Greta experiences emotions that she no longer believes she should be able to possess. One man is evoking so much from her (and from me too, this man is H-O-T)
“Don’t be fooled, bird. I’m the devil in disguise.” I breathe into the shell of her ear. Her skin breaks out in a flash of goose bumps before I step away. Mission accomplished.
I broke out in good bumps reading that….SWOON! This man is straight to the point, knows what he wants, and goes for it, yet he knows how to give space….just perfect! The connection between these two is intense, strong, tested over time. When it all comes to a head, what will they do? What choices will they have to make…you won’t BELIEVE what they must do!!
"My bitter pill I swallow is the silence that I keep, it is poisoning me day by day."
Nothing, expect nothing, because your expectations are going to be blown to shit!
The first thing is, this book is hot, because B is hot.
Second, I didn't hate Greta, she's badass, and if you know me, you'll know that's huge!
Yes, as the story unravels I started to wonder if she was bipolar and shit, but still, that woman kicks serious ass, she is so sexy when she's killing.
I don't want to give the book away, but trust me, you need this is your life, because is not like those other books out there that either make me want to puke, hunt the author down and hurt her/him, or punch the wall.
This was sexy, the right amount of dark, and overall awesome!
Strange, sick thoughts for a sixteen year old girl to have. I suppose that was a result of my years of conditioning. Dee had had to come in and clean up the mess I’d made. I’d been scolded but it didn’t matter. I’d had a taste of the real thing and I thirsted for more.
My desire, my obsession, took on a new form that day. It wasn’t a goal I was working towards anymore, it was tangible now. It was my life.
I really enjoyed this steamy, suspenseful romance. I felt like I knew Greta and Bentley, and got swept away in their fast-paced story. It was a great escape from real life, and I'm definitely going to be reading other books by K. Larsen.
So, I may squealed when I found out who this story was about (totally squealed). I’ve been on a bit of a Bloodlines binge this past week, and was saddened how things turned out for one character. But this author has found a way to have all the characters you have come to love in the series, find their happily ever after. They might not be your traditional endings, however that only makes them that more enjoyable to read.
Each book in this series can be considered a standalone, but if you have read the previous three books, you may as excited as I was to learn that this book is about Bentley and Greta. Squeeeee! (sorry about that, had to be done) I know that Objective was about Mags and her soul mate, Cane, but I really liked Bentley, the secretive neighbor who slowly forced his way into Mags’ life and gave her a reason to smile for the first time in over a year. While things didn’t end up how I would have liked, the ending to that story wasn’t forced and although a bit sad, seemed fitting for the story line. And if you read Resistance, you know things turned out just fine for Mags, now known as Pepper, in the long run.
As Pepper moves on with her new life with Sawyer, two people are still finding their way. Bentley, despite being the lone man out, takes the high road and only shows happiness with Pepper’s new life. The other lone figure being Greta, Pepper’s sparring partner.
This book starts off with a big surprise in the prologue. I’ve sensed all along the Greta had a dangerous secret, but was caught off guard but the level of the secret. Without giving too much away, Greta spent her youth and teen years at a facility known as Ravenbrook. The level of brutality she endured at this place and the skills she acquired, created an emotionless shell of a person. The sole purpose in the school – being smarter and stronger than your classmate. With the consequences of falling short, being fatal.
From this moment on I am a rock. As a rock, I will absorb nothing, I will say nothing, and nothing will be able to break me.
I really liked how this story weaved all the previous stories together in a meaningful way. The group comes together with a common goal. Men who have caused pain to the Bloodlines characters get their due. Old wounds are healed. And that greatest healing comes when Bentley and Greta meet in the most unlikely of circumstances. They experience a range of emotions as they try to figure each other out and then even more so, when they learn of their connection.
“There are two brands of people in the world, people who chase after pleasure and people who run from pain. Pleasure aids forgetting. But pain forces you to have hope.”
While I may have wanted a different ending for Bentley in Objective, there is no doubt in my mind that Greta is his perfect match. Only a man like himself could be turned on by a woman who is his equal in the bad ass department. Their history only makes their union more special.
Of the four books, this story is the most violent, particularly in the flashback scenes to Ravenbrook. I would have liked to know their ages during these flashbacks, which would have added to the brutality of it all, but even on its own, the stories will make you squeamish. And you will cheer for Bentley and Greta when they get their revenge.
This series was a perfect fit for me, being in my favorite genre, romantic suspense. The plot isn’t predictable and the stories are not sugar coated. There is a heavy dose of violence with a blend of fiery passion, that kept me thoroughly entertained. And like I said in the beginning, it may not be traditional, but everyone does get their HEA. The author managed to tie up all the story-lines that I didn’t feel like I needed more. A perfect conclusion.
*An ARC was provided by the author for an honest review.
Greta and Bentley. You've gotten glimpses of them in previous books, but how much do you really know about their back stories.
When we read about Bentley and Magnolia(Pepper) we all whined and cried wondering why those two didn't end up together. Then Pepper ended up with our awsome Sawyer and we say how perfect they were and wondered if there was a perfect match for Bentley. And now you find out!
I won't say much about the book itself because it would ruin the plotline, but what I will say is we finally find out about these two characters pasts and how it brought them to where they are now.
Greta is strong and fierce. She is who she is and that is that. Her past has shaped her into who she is today and it is one tough woman!
Bentley, well we've always seen his sadness, but we've also seen what a cocky ass he can be. Finding out who he is was shocking but it brought an intensity to the story combined with Greta that hooked you.
I started this book late morning and finished it early afternoon. I literally couldn't put it down. I had to see what would happen next and I loved what it read. It was different and fresh and I enjoyed every minute of their story!
Katie writes such great stories. This 4th installment of the Bloodlines series has a resolution for all the characters. Greta is our leading lady and Bentley moves into the spotlight. They both have a gritty story to tell. It's a wild ride with hot scenes and witty characters. All the Bloodlines characters are involved which makes me happy, especially Allie! I think Katie should give her a book next
I have been lucky enough to read every one of these books in this series. Every book has been better than the last. Did this one live up to expectation! I have no idea how K. Larsen does this but it works and it works well. Since the first book I have been invested in these characters and their lives. The second book threw me for a loop because it wasn't what I was expecting, the 3rd book OMFG! That 3rd book was off the chain. Now though now, I can't even put into words how spectacular this book is. It basically has everything a great book should have. Interesting characters, suspense, angst, love, friends, killing, drama.
When I first met Greta in the other book, I was instantly intrigued. I just knew she had secrets, did I expect them to be what they were? Greta oh GRETA! This chick is seriously bad ass. I would defo want her as a friend AND not my enemy. She literally has the worst backstory of any character I have read thus far, which explains why she was so mysterious in the other book. Still, this chick is ah-may-zing. Loved the way this book told her story.
OMG Bentley. When I first met him I was like awww ok as his story with Pepper went on I was like Then he didn't get the girl!?!!! Yeah so I have been waiting for Bentley's redemption and oh hell did I EVER get it! This guy just knows how to be a man. I was happy for him FINALLY!
K. Larsen has come out of nowhere and literally swept me away with this series. Each book better than the last. I didn't expect book 2 to be the way it was, Book 3 had me melting and this book all shit anytime I tried to guess what would come next... The author would bitch slap me and shizz would NOT be what I thought. Blindsided? yeah I was and I loved it. I loved that this book had me on the edge of my seat. Had me feeling emotions that I can't put into words. Slowly this all came together. Every character, every storyline, they were all weaved together and brought forth by this author that I feel is not recognized enough. Sure we have many writers, but writers that can spin tales such as these and do it so perfectly without you even knowing what is next that is talent. I am glad I read these books. Sad that it has ended but OH MY WHAT AN ENDING!
K. Larsen has proved over and over that she knows how to keep me entertained. This series is one that needs to be experienced. Yes, she says they can be read as stand alones, but I truly feel that reading the whole series will give you better insight to each character.
I have been greedy with my 5 stars because I feel that they should only go to books that are worthy of that. This book is worthy!!!
Greta: Alone, trained assassin, hard core bad ass, maybe not so alone, allowed Pepper in, would do anything for her one and only friend.
Bentley: ATF Agent, loved Pepper, would do anything to keep her safe, secrets,
So many things to say, but I wont because oh MAN you need to experience this last (sob!!) book in the Bloodlines series without spoilers. I always thought Clara's story was my favorite and K. Larson couldn't ever make me change my mind. Don't get me wrong I loved Magnolia's story and I definitely loved Sawyer's story (she almost had me switching there), but after reading Greta and Bentley's book, I'm sorry Clara and Dom you guys have been bumped. Just holy wow!!
I knew it would kick my tail because the characters were both broken, as we learned from books two and three, but we didn't know quite how bad. I am a sucker for broken characters and watching them remake themselves, find themselves or heal. The huge bomb Ms Larsen gives us is perfect! When you get to it you will know exactly what I mean. It set the whole thing for the book and I LOVED it! I can not wait to see what she comes up with after this series.
This can be read as a stand alone and loved just as much but will have more meaning and depth if you read the series in order. The characters are so in your face and unapologetic. They care for the ones they let in and protect to the extreme. If you walk away from this book without it causing you to reflect I will be utterly shocked. The characters will hold you, the story, the back story, the plot. It is impossible to set it down once you begin to read. I will be recommending this book to anyone looking for a great read. This whole series should be read! Loved it and hate to see it end! Thank you for such an amazing set of characters and a story I will enjoy re-reading again.
***I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
Greta is a trained assassin. Not by choice, mind you. At the age of 9 her parents sell her. Yup, you read that right, sold her. What she endures and how she survives is revealed as the story is told.
Bentley, who we got to know in Objectives, book 2 in the Bloodlines series, is an ATF agent. He's damaged, which we kind of knew already. He doesn't form attachments and he really has no life outside of his work. We get to know so much more about why he is the way he is. Again, his past is revealed as the story unfolds.
Not only do we get to know Greta and Bentley, and boy do we get to know them... But we also get caught up on the lives of Clara and Dominic, Pepper and Sawyer, and of course young Miss Allie. There is mystery, intrigue, violence and sex.
It is very hard to review the book without giving away the plot, and ruining the entire book. However, I can say that the book is amazing. It is well written. The characters, as is always the case with this author, are well defined. We know why they are the way they are and we get to watch them evolve. The characters are not perfect, which is why I love this book so much. These are human beings who have been through a lifetime of hurt and pain, both emotionally and physically. And in the end, there is just an awesome story.
This is the final book in this series and Ms. Larsen wraps it all up very nicely. I am sad to see it end, but what a fine ending it is!!
The final book in the bloodline series is here and K. Larsen has saved the best for last! Can we just take a moment to give a round of applause to this author their ability to suck you into a story and leave you speechless and spent by its end, not once, but four times. Seriously, I don't know how much more my heart could take from this series.
I can not tell you the number of tears I cried or the minutes I held my breath while reading Target 84. As more was revealed my emotions became unraveled and my heart dove deeper into the story and I was almost certain I was going to lose it in this book. If you want an emotional, thrilling, whirl wind of a read look no further!!
I fell in love with Bloodlines after reading Objective (book two so these can be read alone) and seeing that Bentley would be a part of this story I had a complete book nerd fan-gasm! Ladies and gents, this man is one of my top book boyfriends and you need to read to understand. His heart is big and his love is strong *wink*
K Larsen has once again produced another riveting, edge of your seat, gritty read. Target 84 brings to an end a brilliant Bloodlines Series. Like Objective, the quotes/songs at the beginning of each chapter….perfectly fitting. If you don’t know the song….you’ll Google it! The quotes….a perfect prelude that sets the pace for each chapter. My favorite…………….”Come sleep with me: We won’t make love, love will make us.” ~ Julio Cortazar Target 84………….the entire Bloodlines series… is intertwined flawlessly. Written brilliantly! Characters you will adore. Edge of your seat, hold your breath, butterflies in your stomach, holy sh** I can’t believe that just happened, fast paced, hot, hot, hot, angry sex…..you will Love. Every. Moment!!!! Objective will always be my favorite in this series, but damn if Target 84 didn’t rock my socks! A must read and I promise you….Bentley will sky rocket to the top of your Book Crush list! ~ 4.5 ~ IF-IF-IF ~ Stars
K. Larsen has written a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional experience with Target 84. This chew-you-up and spit-you-out novel is unlike any I've read before. K. Larsen paints the story before your eyes, leaving no detail unseen.
Greta Billings is not who she portrays herself to be, not even to herself. No one expects this gorgeous woman to be a killer—the least being her next target.
Bentley James is a product of his past; molded, shaped, and running from the demons that made him this way.
Together they share a deep-rooted bond that neither would have guessed. Through ulterior motives their connection becomes apparent; their pasts can be erased, and their futures can take a new path—or at least that is the plan...
I love the Bloodlines Series each book bring craziness with it and Target 84 is no different. I loved both Bently and Greta they are fierce, head strong and passionate. You never know what to expect you think one thing and them nope you are so wrong. I'm not giving away much because if you loved the first three books in this series there is no doubt in my mind that this one will blow those out of the water. Love every bit of it it does seem long with the chapter when you first start but it is a very quick read and by then your like. HELL YEAH!!!!!
A few things that I can count on when I read Katie's books: (1) strong female characters;(2) hot scenes; and (3) snarky dialogue. This book doesn't disappoint. Greta is a bizarre woman, but she's strong and she evolves throughout the book. This is not your typical love story, there is murder and kidnapping and all sorts of shenanigans. This story is told from Bentley and Greta's perspectives with some of the Bloodlines crew. Dive in, put your seatbelt on and prepare yourself for Greta.
