Nikola Slade Robinson, generally known as Nikki Slade Robinson, is a New Zealand children’s picture book writer and illustrator. Her books have been widely reviewed and shortlisted for a number of awards.
A very cute picture book based on the true story of a mallard duck that found his way to Niue. As its an island with no wetlands or suitable duck habitat, he takes up residence in a roadside puddle maintained by the locals. He's named after an NZ politician and becomes a minor celebrity.
His story has a bittersweet ending ("And there he remained for the rest of his life"). I recommend that parents do not allow their children to learn what happened to the real Trevor, at least not until they're a little older.
