He never explained his actions when he married someone else.
The only way Kate could cope with his rejection was to leave her Amish community and her family in search of a new beginning. If he was out of sight, he'd be out of her mind, wouldn't he? She didn't figure on catching glimpses of him every week on his visits to town. Seeing him was a constant reminder of how he married so suddenly, and to a woman he barely knew. Would she ever learn why he had acted so out of character? When an opportunity for love comes Kate's way, can she put aside her heartache and open herself to love once more?

After the funeral of my Grandfather I thought I needed something light and simple. This book was the first one I saw when I opened the list of books. It took my mind off the funeral and it was all I expected, light and simple, though the main character (Kate) in the Book could have needed a kick in the butt for her indecision. Next book in the series looks more interesting though, so I might get it as well.
Where to begin...it's hard to describe. I listened to the audiobook and first off-DON'T listen to the audiobook. The narration is atrocious. The writing was heavy with repetition. The premise of the book was intriguing, but the explanations for everything after the truth came out made very little sense. And, really, the whole thing made me want to shake someone by the shoulders and tell them they're being an i***t. Not for me.
Where to begin....I decided to give another chance to this author. So I checked this one out of my local library. Right now I am listening to audiobooks due to health issues. The last series I listened to was narrated by the author. I did not care for her style. This book or "Novella" is narrated by Susanna Coleman. My only complaint is how fast she read. Now I am not sure if it's her or the publisher (Findaway Voices) since the both were fast. I did try to adjust how fast the narration was and well then it was slow motion. I did find that there is a custom speed button and I set it at 0.90 speed and it was perfect for me. Once I clear my inbox I will continue in this series (because I am not a quitter), adjust the speed and see if this author is for me or not.
As for this story I think it is a good beginning to a new series. I have questions, so we will see if they are addressed later.
Katie age 14 and Benjamin age 19 promised to marry when Katie got old enough to marry. Katie's heart was broken when Benjamin out of nowhere married someone else.
Katie decides to leave the Amish because she is hurt and it's too painful to see Benjamin and his wife together. She gets a job in town, rents a place and is trying to forget. (Like it's possible to forget your first love)
Benjamin's wife dies.
Will Benjamin and Katie finally find love together? Well it's a novella and you will have a short read to find out!
A Simple Choice is an amazing start to a new series, Amish Romance Secrets, written by Samantha Price. This is an enduring story of true love that refuses to die. The storyline moves along at a quick pace and keeps the readers interest to the conclusion. The characters are truely amazing and I enjoyed learning their stories.
Kate Miller has carried a love so strong since she was a child and was convinced God would never reveal her story. When she finally reconnects with her Amish family after four years she knows she will never be whole without returning fully. Kate knows the love of her life is married but there are other Amish suitors. God has a different path for her and it will surprise you.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. I look forward to continuing with this series.
Congratulations to Samantha Price on writing another fantastic story for her readers enjoyment.
Just not believable which made the characters wooden and unrelatable. According to Ms. price, everybody (on an Amish farm) loved all the chores all the time. Well, I'm not Amish but no, they don't. Some chores are just not fun. Period. Some aren't fun because of weather conditions.
This is the first book in series. I was interested from the start. Kate left for rumspringa because her heart was broken, she's been gone four years, she had a good job and a small home. Then one day someone from her past shows up and things start to change. It's a very good book following alone with Kate as she looks for happiness.
A lovely story set against Godly principals.this story line was riddled with genuine characters, a believable plot and a HEA.samatha price writes such good stories her readers can still enjoy long after they have finished the last page. One of my favorite authors
What a rollercoaster romance. Katie has been in love with Benjamin, since she was fourteen and he was nineteen. So many obstacles in their way! Will Benjamin and Katie get their HEA. Read this charming novel and learn what happens between Benjamin and Katie.
This was a story about Late who expected that Benjamin would marry her but instead married another Kate leaves the Amish as she has not been baptised she wasn't shunned She is still in love with Benjamin & he is still married So will she marry another or will they get a happy ever after
This, the first book in the Amish Romance Secrets is a heart stealer! As Kate secretly watched Benjamin from afar, her heartbeat continued to escalate even though he was the very one who had left her devastated when he married someone else. Was she destined to be a spinster or did Gott have someone or something else in mind for her life?
I like all of Samantha stories and especially series. I really get into the characters of her books. She has a way of always keep me interested and wanting to read more. And when she has a new book to follow in the series I love it and can't wait to read it.
A very enjoyable book to read. I couldn’t wait to see how this would play out in the end although I knew how it would end. I just didn’t know exactly how until I read it.
I loved this book. I loved all the characters and the plot. It was a real page turner. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Christian Amish fiction. I look forward to the next book in this series. Thank you, Samantha.
This was a pretty good read. For me it was really frustrating. She loved Benjamin forever then when he is available sans wants to marry her. She can’t get over herself to say yes. Then finally they work it out and they end with their hands intertwined…no kiss
I chose this book because I the title intrigued me, as did the synopsis. It isn't really a book (novel), it's more like a short story or novella. The Amish genre and faith is interesting. I look forward to reading the remaining stories in this series.
Kate told a very touching and delicate love story with a beautiful arc to it. She loved. Her love was unrequited, at least, so she thought, and then fate intervened, and gave us a beautiful unexpected ending to the story.
Apart from so much insight into the love lives amongst the Amish, their simple way of life, their dos, and don’ts, life, seen from the eyes of those who live is good. Otherwise, why could Kate leave and return?
It was great to see how those Amish parlance, used in the story, were written in italics. That way, the author said her bit without have to explain the words used to say it. I enjoyed the story, especially the twists. The entry of Liz at the tail end of the story prepared the reader’s mind to the continuation of the story at another time. This is not a fast moving story, but is deliberately easy going, with a lot of repetitions. This book could have been tighter without those repetitions.
I'm always curious about the Amish because they are so family centered and apparently well content with their simple life.
So far, every book about an Amish character shows them struggling with the constrictions imposed by their religion. I've never understood their opposition to use products that would help them provide for their families - like a tractor. Maybe it's a resistance to help keep covetry at bay.
This is, as usual, a gental story about love gone awry through the actions of one rebelious young man who was later expelled, ex-communicated, shunned or a combination of all three. He deserved more than the punishment he was given, IMO, but I. being booted out of your church could be very traumatic.
This was a quick little read that could be read on the train ride into New York City from someplace ~40 to 60 miles away.
Katie has loved Benjamin since they were children. Even though Benjamin told her when she was 14 he would marry her, he married another girl. Katie heartbroken goes on with her life trying to forget Benjamin. Circumstances force Katie to return back home. What is in store for Katie ? I thought the book ended too abruptly to give it a 5. This is part one of series.
I enjoyed the story very much except it just seemed to really get started and it was over. It only took me an hour to read it. I have read other books by Samantha Price and enjoyed them as she is a very good author, but this one is just to short. There are a lot of ways to improve it. I hope the other stories in this series go into more depth and aren't cut short.
Enjoyable, cute, short (about 195 pages) Amish romance. It is well written. It tells the story of a young love that goes awry and you don't know the exact reason why it did until the end of the book. I liked the fact that the story was "wrapped" up so nicely. Overall, very good book for as short as it is.
