The Watchers
Having once visited the Holy Land, I’m always interested in places like the Dead Sea - places I’ve seen with my own two eyes. I like the sentence and I quote “What the Book of Giants leaves open is our curiosity.”
The Book of Giants opens doors into our understanding of historical events and seems to stem from scrolls discovered in cave four. The book seems to widen our understanding of the history of the Second Temple Judaism period.
Some of the writing becomes obscure to those who have a limited understanding of biblical matters and don’t really cater for the ordinary reader. The Book of Enoch seems quite mysterious and in my humble opinion is probably best left to scholars who are inclined towards this kind of study. I’m afraid the author has lost me with many of his arguments and it is something I’ll have to bear in mind when giving out stars. With words like “pseudodepigraphical, (wonder is that a correct spelling, seems to be spelt differently later in the book) Manichaeism, and Nephilim,” the author is obviously directing his book towards a certain type of scholar.
The Great Flood of Noah seems like a high point in this book and it’s interesting that the one giant we have all heard of, is mentioned - Goliath. Who has not heard the story of how King David slew the giant with a sling and a stone. Interesting as well are the allusions to Celtic and Nordic mythologies.
There’s no doubt great mysteries in our ancient past but isn’t it strange that the one place today where we would be likely to encounter giants is the artist’s impressions in children’s books, particularly those for toddlers. Odd, indeed!
Excluding ‘Gullivers Travels’ which also get a mention.
The author seems to know his stuff. From a presentation point of view there are anomalies that need to be fixed, particularly in relation to spacing.

as nausea
This book is one of the most frustrating and insulting reads. Paragraphs and pages are repeated so many times, I had dejavu often, thinking I had accidentally moved backwards. This repeating of paragraphs added little to each chapter. It was an exhausting read. This book should be reduced to one chapter at most.

I found this book absolutely riveting. As someone who is very familiar with the Bible this was a revelation to me and I am grateful for it. It really helped me fill in the gaps. And the questions at the end: Priceless!
