Heartlines is not a standalone book. It is only meant to be read after first reading Thirty Seconds To Die and Terrible Lies.
Sometimes in battle surrender is the strongest move of all.
Brett Owen, the son of a Sentori leader, promised himself he’d never do the work of his brotherhood - killing reborn souls. He’d been naïve to make such a vow. He’d been naïve about a lot of things – such as the bond of family and love.
Taunted by a Sentori hunter, Brett does whatever he can to survive, even if it means embracing his dark Sentori side and earning the unwanted attention of the Sentori leaders. His life had never looked so frantic. And all the while, his true family is infecting his heart and mind.
When his heart is tied to an unexpected soul, he finds himself fighting for a future he desperately wants to live to see. It becomes clear that whatever freedoms Brett is hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Fragile lives that had been carefully woven together will be ripped apart swiftly and easily.
Faith is betrayed.
Remorse and innocence intertwine.
Fate and chance collide to mend the tattered strands of Brett’s heart in the shocking conclusion to the Thirty Seconds To Die series.

One word you will hear over and over in this review is, <3 Brett <3. He has been THE main blue-eyed star in my 'Thirty Seconds to Die' fantasy. He's definitely the bad guy all the girls hate to love, until you realize he's worthy of your love! :)
After book 2 of this series ended, I didn't know if we could get more. I mean, we can't be too greedy, right? WRONG! Fans of this series (and of Brett) wanted and needed more! We needed to know what happened to Brett. Was our guy going to be able to get on with this life while his love was lost to another? We had hope so...
In Heartlines we get more answers to questions we didn't even know needed answers. This story mainly follows Brett and how his actions effect all those around him. We get to ride with him during some turbulent times. He's determined not to be labeled any longer or be forced to follow something he no longer believes in. Yet, he also has to remain careful that those he has grown to care about, don't get caught in the middle of it all.
Just like the previous book, this books is also riddled with action. Who doesn't love a good fight that has you biting your nails, making you wish your main squeeze makes it out alive?! I do! :D
Even though its heartbreaking to see Brett on the run from the Sentori, its also eye opener. All the things he does for the ones he loves speaks to who he truly is. Those same loved ones that he once swore to destroy, have crept into his heart and found a home.
Time and time again he puts those he's learned to love above himself and his well being or what he wants. He fights to preserve the future for someone he never thought he would be able to have or love, despite not knowing if he will be there to enjoy it with them.
Brett gives us hope that not all bad guys stay on the wrong side of good. Some bad guys are actually good or realize they have always wanted to be good. Some guys just take longer to meet that one girl that will make them want to change the world, and fight for what seems right.
Brett makes tremendous family sacrifices to kept those close to his heart safe, even if it means he has to be away from them. He finds a way to make peace and accept Ren into his life, even though he will forever mourn the lost love of Lexi. I think it was incredibly mature of him to trust Ren and Lexi with his biggest and most precious secret.
Although the conclusion is bitter sweet, it leaves us content and hopeful that Brett will be able to move on with his life as he enjoys the new loves he is given.
The writing is phenomenal, the storytelling style is unique and the characters make you feel all type of crazy emotions! I recommend this series for those looking to enjoy an action packed mystery romance that will keep you at the edge of your seat while you shout nonsense to your reading device! :)
Heartlines is a perfect ending to a beautiful series.
I'm so happy that S.G. Holster gave us Brett's story. He needed to be heard. I wasn't a big fan of Brett's, and was doubtful that I would be swayed, but I was so wrong.
Heartlines is the 3rd book, and the conclusion of the Thirty Seconds to Die series.
Following Brett's journey and transformation through this book was just so heartwarming.
Brett is bound to the Sentori, and has made many bad decisions, that is until his life takes an unexpected turn of events, that uplifts his entire world and throws anything that he ever believed in on its head, putting him in a very dangerous position. Every move he makes is being watched and scrutinized by the Sentori, who are waiting for him to slip up.
Brett wants to be a better man, and realizes family, and the bond that comes with being a part of a family, are stronger than any secret brotherhood. He fights back, while all the while having to betray those close to him and loosing their faith and trust, in an effort to change his future.
S.G. Holster has once again done an amazing job with this book. From the drama, the tension and the twist that you never saw coming. Her characters are amazing, and you just can't help loving them and getting sucked into their world.
I have really enjoyed this series, but I will admit that this was my favorite book from them all. After the revelations that devastated many of the characters in the second book, I was eager to really get to know Brett. He'd been one of those characters you love but hate at the same time, so it was interesting to see things from his POV.
My heart broke over and over for this poor guy who had been cheated out of so many things, and had been turned into something that made him the enemy to everyone who really meant something to him. Throughout this series Brett had swayed back and forth between right and wrong, but in this book he proved that he had a heart of gold, and given the chance he was nothing like his brotherhood.
I was intrigued to see how things would change between him and Ren, and if Brett would ever get over his love for Lexi. Every moment spent with Brett was one of anguish and pain. He was such a complex, broken character, and I prayed for him each step of the way.
This book was fast-paced and exciting, with a plethora of emotions filling each page. There were a few surprising twists in the plot that left me breathless, and the ending, the moment Lilly got so excited about her papa, just tore into my soul and left in tears.
