"Heed Jenna Mahoney’s advice. In her new book, Small Apartment Hacks, she dishes out genius ideas for optimizing tiny spaces."—DailyCandy.com
LIVE LARGE • Hang hobby clutter like guitars or bikes on the wall as decoration • Mount side tables on wheels for easy rolling from bedside to sofa
ORGANIZE SMART • Upcycle empty wine crates into stylish, stackable shoe cubbies • Line a room with high bookshelves for a ceiling-top library
ENTERTAIN IN STYLE • Utilize kitchen space to make an impressive entrée—go potluck on the sides • Stash plants, lamps and coffee tables in the bathtub to open up party space
I'm not sure what's up with all the negative reviews on this book. I've read other books on simplifying and organizing, but this one actually inspired me to make one real solid to-do list on one piece of paper in one place. It made for a great Friday afternoon read, because this weekend I intend to actually clean, organize, donate, and sell some things that are probably long overdue! I think it's a good book. I paused while reading it to sort a few things around the house, so I've already gotten a little bit done after reading it!
Although quite dated, many of the tips are still useful, and this is certainly a more convenient format than a million different Pinterest posts. Some bits were a bit hard to work out without pictures.
Helpful tips, got a bit kitschy near the end with all the "party planning, diy, decor, recipes" stuff, but all in all good content. Although my apartment is far from small, I still found a fair bit of decent advice within.
Very tiny book, poorly written and poorly organized, very little useful info or new ideas. Very quick read because it so small. Very glad I borrowed this from the library and didn't pay for it.
Some nice tips in here, but everything is pretty general, and nothing is overtly inspiring or anything I haven't already read. Too much ground was covered within the book, making it more focussed on small apartment solutions would have made it stronger, rather than bothering with entertaining tips.
There's very little here that you won't find in a basic book on decluttering, & a lot of space wasted talking about Feng Shui & providing recipes for dishes to serve at parties. I didn't find a single new or creative idea for how to handle living in a small space.
I prefer books like this to be illustrated - but then they have to be larger format. So I like the small format and the reminders of how to declutter, clean and maximize space in small living quarters. Easy to read, nice stile of writing and helpful sidebars. But nothing new here. And many of the suggestions are not for people on a budget. There are several recommendations for products from Williams Sonoma and the Container Store. If I felt I could shop there I would not be living in a small apartment.
