This book surprised me. I had to check the first publication date as it is a very comprehensive sewing book like those published decades ago.
It is, just as it says, a complete guide: sewing basics and techniques, dressmaking, tailoring, home furnishings, care and repair. It doesn't cover pattern drafting or draping but it does cover fitting and basic pattern alteration.
It's not the most beautifully styled of books and the cover and fabric photos look way more old fashioned than the publication date would suggest - but if you are after step-by-step instruction rather than inspiration this may be the book for you.
This was a great book. A great conversational style and beautiful pictures. It was *very* complete when it came to home decorating projects. That was the largest section by far. I had never really thought about doing my own sewing for the home until I read about the possibilities in this book. The tailoring section left a little to be desired and it still wasn't what I've been looking for. But if you're looking for some sewing eye-candy, this is it.
Some goof tips, but overall a very average sewing reference book. The illustrations did not communicate as well as a picture might have. One thing I did like though was the section of home furnishing. It was a good starting point for anyone who is interested in that.
