Mitsuki has been diagnosed with throat cancer. Despite her heath conditions, Mitsuki enters a competition to receive a recording album. However, fate has different plans for her; the god of death sends shinigamis, Takuto and Mereko, (Death Angels) to retrieve Mitsuki’s soul. To the shock, Mitsuki can some how manage to see these two death angels. Along the way, these two angels decide to help Mitsuki’s journey to become a pop sensation, but not everyone is willing to aid Mitsuki.

The theme that is relevant in this manga, is that every individual should treasure their life, any minute the gift that is given can be taken away. So live everyday, like it’s your last. Try new things, every once in and follow the actual definition. . As a reader, I could connect to the protagonist and her struggles. Also, it is evident in everyday life, as people who are diagnosed with cancers and other maligned diseases, their lives are disturbed from their everyday life.

This is my favorite book of all times. It was very inspirational and I had tears in my eyes. Arina Tanemura’s art is amazing and portrays the mood and tone set for the characters. This manga deserves a five plus. Simple, enough?

Mitsuki is a 12 year old who dreams of becoming a singer in hopes of finding her friend.
Mitsuki is sick and only has a year to live, but with the help of two harbingers of death, she is able to go after her dream of being a singer.

I found this manga in my library and thought it sounded it good. It was good! Very good. It has a nice story and likeable characters. I admit, it is a bit sad, but I won't explain why. You'll just have to read for yourself.
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the volumes of this manga series.

[Series Length: 7 volumes / Read: volume 1]

One of Arina Tanemura's most popular series, but it's definitely not for me. I couldn't even finish the first volume (or more likely, I probably did and promptly forgot most of it).

What killed this story for me is the way that we're immediately punched in the face with the reason why we should automatically be sympathetic towards the main character, Mitsuki Koyama: she has throat cancer. However, that fact shouldn't give her a free pass to trample on her friends and family, abuse the goodwill of Takuto and Meroko (the underworld reapers who magically grant her wish to become a teenage idol singer, even though she's only 12) and basically have most of her dreams come true without really struggling very much for them or somehow earning that privilege due to a good deed earlier on in her life. And that's just what I gleamed from the first volume.

I figure that there are other, far more outstanding sick children in the world with better hearts and personalities who deserve to their dying wishes granted. Plus, what about the other girls actually working to become idols who lose out because of Mitsuki's magical advantage? I don't know, but the bottom line is that I couldn't find much to like about Mitsuki and hated being blatantly manipulated by the noisy elephant in the room which is her terminal illness.

Liked the costume designs for Takuto and Meroko, I suppose.

A very cute addition to the mahou shoujo (magical girl) genre, this is a quintessential magical idol subtype. However, I personally do not consider this manga among my favorites and probably never will. There are some glaring flaws and things that irk me. However, in the middle to the last third of the manga there is some very interesting plot points made and characterization done.

CHARACTERS:
To begin with, ugh Mizuki's selfless attitude was so irritating. She basically has no flaws and was only semi-active--a lot of things were done for her. On top of that, the selflessly and perfect terminally ill patient is such a trope that it's enough to make me roll my eyes even in a genre that requires quite a suspension of disbelief. The ill and disabled are people too with flaws and feelings.

However, the characterization of the other characters--especially the shinigamis--are much more in depth and interesting. To become a shinigami you must commit suicide and this theme was handled fairly well.

PLOT:
The plot starts out generic, but once you find that Eichi is dead it becomes far more interesting. This finally is the only time in the manga that the heroine shows any sort of spunk or feelings other than "I want to sing" and "I love everybody"

The one thing that really creeped me out about this manga was that the main love interest, Tokuto, is like an adult and Mizuki is twelve. It was far too creepy for words. Then when you find out he was her father's friend and contemporary it becomes creepy on a whole new level.

ART:
Ariana Tanemura is one of the great shoujo artists out there. Sometimes her characters seem a bit stylistically odd to me, but she really is excellent. Her colored pieces are also fantastic.

Art: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The fact that she's 12???!!!!: -⭐️

I remember reading this for the first time when I was a teenager; I still think that Arina Tanemura's art is breathtaking, it's just that stories where the female protagonist magically becomes older are a giant pet peeve of mine (she's actually 12??!!! And older boys are kissing her???!!!). Overall, I enjoyed this first volume and the story had me intrigued enough to go on (I honestly don't remember what happens next so), but I still don't think it will become a favourite. That artwork tho 😩🤌

Only 7 volumes long. It's not a super long -- or super involved series. It's cute and fun, and actually deals with the serious topic of suicide and retribution. It doesn't seriously deal with it, but it's a serious topic. It has a sad/cute feeling like Fruits Basket. Tanemura has a really distinct drawing & story style. Always very sweet. Maybe the story is a bit young for me, but I recommended to read at least once.

About a 12 year old girl (Mitsuki) with a benign tumor on her vocal chords. Her only wish is to sing. But, if she has surgery -- she will have to have her vocal chords removed and won't be able to sing again.

She is visited by a pair of shinigami (death-god/grim-reaper) whose mission is to claim her soul. The shinigami are all human souls who'd commit suicide when they were humans, and now cursed to work sending souls to the afterlife.

Mitsuki's charm appeal to the shinigami who not only protect her but transform her into a 16 year old girl (sans disease). As a 16 year old she runs away from home, and auditions as a singer debuting as "Full Moon". As the shinigami help heal her heart (and body) she helps them discover what they've lost, and find peace.

I read this because I was writing a blog post for work about the symbolism of rabbits in Japanese mythology. This series is about the moon (you can see my confusion) -- but it is NOT about rabbits. Onto the next...

The surface story here is pretty simple and standard: Mitsuki uses magic to help her become a pop idol. It isn't exactly cheating: the magic makes her older (16) and healthy, but doesn't affect her actual singing ability. Healthy because, in her normal, 12 year old body, Mitsuki is dying of throat cancer. This could be boringly worn, or cloyingly manipulative, and probably some readers will see it as that. But for me, it was written so honestly and beautifully that it works. Arina Tanemura ignores more than a few opportunities to go for cheap tear-jerkers, and I appreciate that. And the art is really very pretty, just like the cover. I think I'll really enjoy this series, even though I'm sure that the last book will leave me in floods of tears no matter what happens.

This manga series is by far one of my absolute favorite. It shows that even though bad things happen in life, you still have friends that are there for you, and that good things are still there even though you think they are not.

It is a wonderful, bittersweet story of a young girl's adventures just before she dies. Every book is filled with fun, romance, and a little bit of sadness.

Awal cerita cukup menjanjikan.
WHAT THE HELL?! SANGAT GA MASUK AKAL!
THIS IS SO F**KING IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME!!! ROAARR!!

1. 12 year old girl with throat cancer really wants to be a singer, and convinces two death spirits to make her into her 16 year old self so she can compete in a singing competition.

2. This is uh... idk. I'm not sure what to think of this story. There are elements I like and think have potential (the bitchy girl with the pet pig, the relationship between the protagonist and her grandmother, the catboy's past) but they are all in the setup stage right now. The actual focus is on how much Mitzuki loves to sing and how much she loves her not boyfriend. Which is a very meh thing for me, tbh.

3. Till the last chapter (where we had the bitchy girl with the pet pig bless her) I was more interested in the author commentary boxes than I was in the actual story. I do like the focus on non-Mitsuki characters. Hopefully, that would be enough to salvage the rest of the volumes.

4. I toyed with the idea of the catboy being the not-boyfriend but I think I'm wrong. I still think the not-boyfriend dying is the most logical explanation for there being no contact from him, especially in a series with death spirits.

Graphic Novel: Manga

I don't like Manga, I really don't understand the point of it. This book is about a 12 year old girl who really wants to be a singer, but her grandmother is against it. However, Mitsuki decides that she is going to enter anyway. But, unfortunately, she has to be 16 years old to enter and she decides to take a pill to make her grow. Well, she is an instant sensation and is selling a ton of albums and merchandise. She is the BIGGEST thing to happen to the singing business. She finally tells her grandmother and she is upset at first but then accepts her granddaughters wishes.

I don't believe that I would have to do anything to promote this book because manga is so popular that it sells on its own. I would only recommend this for casual reading purposes because I don't see how a deep life lesson could be learned from this book.

This rating is totally based on opinion, I don't know what makes good Manga and what makes bad.

Idealistic and innocent, signature of its author and art style, Full Moon o Sagashite is lovable and beautiful. One of the most memorable manga I have read. This series' cup runeth over with love from Arina Tanemura, which isn't surprising for any of her works. This is my favorite series from her, one that I read again and again. You fall in love with many of the characters, even the bad guys, who end up being people who are just trying to do their job/ protect the main character/ ect, like a good bad guy. Mitsuki is absolutely adorable and admirable at the same time. This was my first "real" manga (having an actual plotline and not being a rip off of Sailor Moon,) so it also has great potential for an introduction manga. Artwork is gorgeous and sets the tone for the series; I even bought the art book for this. A definite must-read for shoujo fans.

Full Moon O Sagashite, is a great book cuz its about this 12 year old girl named Mitsuki who wants to sing. But tragically, she has throat cancer, her parents died, and she is now living with her grandmother. Mitsuki heard that there was a singing audition and if you won, you become famous. And the reason she wanted to become famous is because she wanted to meet someone she knew for a long time that somehow currently resides in America. But her grandmother wouldnt let her cuz she didnt want to lose anyone ever again. So, Mitsuki was in in her room until suddenly two Shinigamis appeared(Shinigamis are spirits of the dead, they became that way cuz they committed suicide)(Also their names are Takuuto and Meoroko). Mitsuki asked them if they can help her get into the audition. Unfortunatley, thats not why they came. So Mitsuki runs away from them and gets ready for the audition at the same time. Until finally the Shinigamis caught her and Takuto decided to grant Mitsuki her wish. So he made her look 16(cuz you had to be 16 or older to audition) and his partner Meoroko wasn't so happy. Finally Mitsuki made it to her audition, but when she had to, one of the judges told her to speak up a lil louder, she did, and she o-mazingly awesome. She sang so beautifully. And just to let you know one of the judges was Takuto in disguise. So he made sure that she won and became famous.

I've been hearing a lot of great stuff from this series but after reading the first volume, I don't really see what all the hype is about. Arina Tanemura's art is beautiful as always but somehow I just feel like I've read this before. Maybe I'm just bored of Tanemura's art style. But I swear I've seen this plot before. Typical shojo plot. I think I'm just looking for something different.

But this book is great for casual reading. If you're a typical teen girl looking for some cute romantic fantasy manga, this is the one for you. Just don't expect some deep meaning or dark elements or even realistic things here.

I change my rating to two. XP Worth reading but not reading again. It's forgettable.

So I re-read this or maybe finished it (all 7) for the first time. I don't think I read all the way to the end before and OMG the cuteness. I mean, yes it was a little angsty and a little overall depressing with the constantly looming death, etc. However I just adored all of the Shinigami and learning their back stories and seeing them change was the best part for me! I pretty much love everything Tanemura, the art and story is always wonderful but she has a way with characters and humor even when working with potentially difficult subjects. Ending reminded me a little of ending of Sakura Hime and the thing with Eichi punched me in the feelings a little but whatever. Easy to recommend for a tween population

In this bittersweet tale of puppy love, tragedy, and aspirations of pop-star fame, 12-year-old Mitsuki's life finds hope when a comical pair of magical beings appears

So I saw the anime of this long before I read the manga but as every one has experienced the anime and manga can differ quite a bit so I picked this up.

There's a lot of things to love about this series. The art style, the characters and the humor but there's also a bit of darkness too which helps to give this seemingly sweet manga an edge. Would definitely recommend it.

I tried. I really tried to give Arina Tanemura a chance. I mean, her artwork is so beautiful! But this series! I just really disliked it! And that surprised me, I thought I'd like it! I think I'm too jaded from reading Godchild, I expect someone to get killed every two pages or something. I don't know. I can't pin down exactly why I hated this book. Certainly the artwork was gorgeous, I guess I really felt the story was lacking something. And I didn't really like the characters either.

It would probably be better as an anime, since it's a music manga with the main character singing all the time.

Negiramen is the best part of it, not so much the main character. The leading lady is understandably weak, gullible, and doesn't understand the real world at all. While it makes sense with her back story, I've seen characters I like more who have never left their room for years.

Typical shoujo, which makes it rather predictable.

I’m not sure I can accurately rate this book after getting off a fruits basket high. It feels scattered and fast paced and also kind of cliche. I loved this series in high school and I know it gets more serious the further you read, but this first book...I really just wanted to go back and read fruits basket again. 😅

*warning: spoilers*

I am a huge fan of Arina Tanemura and love the art. The style still gets a 5.

I really wanted to like the story as you are made to feel sympathetic to Mitsuki as she has throat cancer; even though it's very curable if she gets an operation but would have her vocal cords removed in the process. So she would rather die than never sing again. Though her dreams come true by way of two Shinigami, but they warn her she only has a year to become famous as that's when she'll die.

What made me already tune out on this one as well was the trope on how "said relative was wronged by another relative so we take out our feelings on their kids." The grandmother treats Mitsuki like crap and you find out Mitsuki's mother ran off after becoming pregnant and to elope with a famous singer (Mitsuki's father). You find out the mother died shortly thereafter as she wasn't healthy enough to even remotely try and have children.

Having really liked Phantom Thief Jeanne, I really wanted to like this one. I will probably pass on reading the rest. I may just jump onto reading Arina's other series, Sakura Hime.

I watched this manga as a show first before reading the comics. The show actually got me into k-drama and anime. Obviously, manga now too. I enjoyed the show, but I don’t think I’ll continue with the manga since it strays from the show and I really enjoyed the show. Cute story of Mitsuki following her dream to become a singer despite her knowing her time of death is near. She could possibly live longer if she got the surgery for her throat, the cancer killing her, but would lose her singing voice. She wishes to see her childhood crush Eichi who moved to America and wants to become a famous singer so he can find her. I cried with the show, but it had a happy ending. I don’t want to spoil how the show ends, but it definitely gave a plot twist that killed me 😭 good show, but not sure what route the manga goes with the accuracy to the show, but the manga does go a route I don’t want to follow.

This was so unexpectedly good, not that I thought it'd be bad, just possibly overhyped. I thought that the story would feel more cliched, so I was quite surprised by the subtle yet beautiful sentiments of the characters, and the melancholic undertones to everything, like the scene of Eichi comparing Mitsuki to the moon who hides it's scars and pain on the dark side, and puts forth it's captivating shine.

The art is really pretty, and pleasing to the eye. I like all of the outfits and character designs, especially Mitsuki's "idol persona" outfits, they're really fun. I think the characters are pretty distinguished look wise, I haven't had a problem telling anyone apart, which isn't always the case for every manga series.

After that cliffhanger, I'm really anticipating the next volume!!

So far, I like it. I did come into this manga with a almost an entire plot synopsis, so I do know what happens, but I was actually surprised by how many little foreshadowing bits there are in there.

Anyways, the plot is good. I wish it wasn't about children, but it's a manga from 2002, what can ya do. I have a few plot points that I think were a little forced, most about Takuto and Mitsukis relationship. It's something that I would have loved when I was younger, but now that I'm an adult it's a little weird with 1. How sudden it is and 2. The age difference. However the overarching plot, very a fan of.

Also adorable early 2000s shoujo style, gets me every time.
