This was not bad, but not as engaging with either action or interpersonal interactions as some other books in the series. These are the types of books I listen to as audiobooks in the way other people leave the TV on in the background.
I have to wonder why there are so few reviews, unless people are starting to think like me - NOTHING is happening in this series now. Can we just the guy trying to hurt Hannah and Jessie? Can we finish this? Can Jessie maybe have a baby, stop getting hurt, figure out who the real bad guys are. I keep reading the books because I think "the next one will wrap it up." I can see that there are at least 4 more books. How much longer can this drag out?
I searched everywhere to find information about the book, halfway through and then once finishing it, because things just didn't make sense. Hannah is solving a minor crime, Jessie kind of a big one, but where are things connected?
A manifesto? Is this like the Unabomber and his manifesto? What the heck does the website mean? And the person the counselor is going to see? And the person at the end with things being "fuzzy"? Faking it? Or does she really not remember her crimes.
The Perfect Expression... Awesome Psychological Suspense
This was another excellently written Psychological Suspense Thriller in the Jessie Hunt series by Blake Pierce. I have been following this series from the beginning and I have books 📚 📖 1-32. I have just finished reading book 31 and it's awesome as always. I have one complaint, not really, why do people always have to be out to get Jessie and her sister Hannah and now Kat and her fiance are added to the group that might be a target for criminals wanting to get even with them. I think 🤔 Chief Decker might be on the list. Can't wait to read the next book 📚📖 in this series.
SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT: I do not discuss any big spoilers of the book but my review will indicate some potential spoilers so beware
Honestly this one has probably been my favorite of the series so far. Lots of different character viewpoints, more open plot lines and the storyline did not follow the rest of the series cliches so it made for a much more interesting read. You find out the killer much earlier in the story but do not worry there is still a twist and Jessie does NOT get injured yet AGAIN when taking down the bad guy. I also liked to see Hannah's character more and I hope in the future it follows her more and her little crime solving antics.
The story was quite fast since we already know even before it reached the middle who started the killing. It just took time for the lead to know who.
And then.. there are now 3 know threats all having a vendetta to the lead. A former cop, a psycho-obsessed prisoner and an assassin who (possibly) has amnesia.
And then.. Hannah all of a sudden became a modern version of Nancy Drew. At least on the sleuthing part and the age.
I'll let Jessie Hunt rest first while I read the other books of the author.

After being battered and severely bruised Jessie is thinking about going back to work when she sees herself involved in a murder case that quickly evolves to the actions of an apparent serial killer. At the same time, Hannah is asked to help discover who is harassing her best friend on campus. The story has an interesting plot where greed is the main factor, it's full of action and provides great entertainment. I thank Ms. Pierce and her publisher for this ARC.
We need more Hannah in the stories. She is growing up and regaining her humanity and using her whip smartness to help others. This story has people who fail and then think that by killing others some how their failures will go away. Trust me they don't! Jessie goes on for at least 7 more books. They better get rid of the killers and all their helpers that are pursuing her - that's getting OLD!!!
This one was a solid no from me. The content farm is trying to make this more of an ensemble series with more focus on supporting characters. However the stories were a bit lazily written with unconvincing motivations by the bad guys and a lot of rambling plots. Struggled to finish.
Jessie Hunt and husband Ryan Hernandez solve the mystery of murders. You already know who the killer is in the middle of the book and the motive for the killing is not convincing. Not suspenseful. Side plot about her sister Hannah and her college sleuthing is distracting and did not contribute to the main storyline.
Jessie Hunt is pulled into a case set in a gated, high-status community where appearances matter more than truth. When multiple women are murdered, Jessie must infiltrate this world of curated perfection and unravel the secrets beneath its polished surface. As she digs deeper, Jessie discovers that the residents’ carefully crafted “perfect expressions” hide jealousy, manipulation, and long buried grudges. Every clue suggests the killer is someone the victims knew well, someone who blends seamlessly into their elite social circle. Jessie along with the police have to rush to catch the killer before they discover any more victims.
Kat is planning her wedding. Hannah is away at college. Ryan stepped down from running HSS & Jessie has an appointment to talk about returning from medical leave. Several others in HSS were injured & haven't been cleared to come back to work. Ryan is called into the office for a new case and Jessie asks to sit in on the briefing. Wealthy women are being murdered in West Los Angeles. Jessie offers to go with him to consult. This book will keep you turning pages to find out who the killer is! Really enjoy Jessie Hunt books!
