Tryst Island #5

Devlin's Dare

Rate this book
Devlin Fox has always been a player. A horny bee flitting from flower to flower. He has no idea why the sexy minx he meets on the way to Tryst Island affects him the way she does. Arousal—for her—hits him like a fist to the gut and he can’t stop thinking about her.

But Tara Romano doesn't “do” commitments. For good reason. When she proposes they be “friends with benefits,” Devlin can’t figure out why the idea annoys him so much. It should be the perfect scenario. A gorgeous, alluring woman who only wants him for his body… He wants, needs, more from Tara, so he hits upon a plan to turn their no-strings-fling into something lasting. A series of tantalizing dares—dares Tara cannot resist.

I have to admit, to start with, I thought I would end up disliking Devlin as much as I did Ash from the previous book in the series.

He, after nothing but bumping into Tara decides a weekend is enough for a "seduction" as after all he is "between flings". He then deletes texts from 3 women he is clearly trying to blow off, yet keeps the naked txt picture from a 4th for "sentimental" reasons. Ok, so yes he is sounding like a creep.

Yet, then his character does a 180 and he is blushing all over the place and awkward. It did not really fit with this supposed image of an experienced player, but it did make me like him more!

Tara was ok - I have in this series struggled at times to connect or like a character, such as Bella who I disliked as a secondary character and that did not change in her own book. Tara here seemed a bit sneery and resentful of her friends and sister love lives and was all a bit self pitying "oh they have it easy, not like me....."

And, as I noticed in book 1, although I did not notice it so much in the books after, sometimes the language was a bit 1980's Mills and Boon - such as using "steamy depths" in relation to the female anatomy and sex, or describing a nipple as a "pouty protuberance", or "creamy globes of her breasts" which apparently "bobbled" as she was lifted up!

But overall, it was a solid 3 stars (possibly a 3.5 but I remain undecided about that) and was a light-hearted and fun read.

I found this book very hot. The scenes between Tara & Devlin seemed to sizzle. I also like how Devlin was a gentleman and didn't give up on Tara. The characters were very believable and stayed true to character. The author also had in some very interesting ideas about peanut butter, that just has to be read to understand.

My only complaint would be the story was too short.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I was excited because it's my 1st Sabrina York book & I've heard great things.

In summary, this was a HOT, light romance. Something sweet & spicy that you can enjoy anytime. I consider this a vacation book. Something you can tote along & enjoy while relaxing somewhere.

There were some small things that I got hung up on:

4- I think PBBJ is my new favorite acronym!
5- I thought it was extremely cute when Dev gives her a macarena lap dance. I LOL'd at that!

Overall, an enjoyable, hot read.

This is a great book! I love this whole series; Sabrina has created a world I would love to live in. As a Seattle native and UW grad I love that she got the area “right”. I grow tired of books that have bad geography or local customs; it throws me right out of the story.

Now Devlin and Tara….oh my GOD these two are HOT!! They have great chemistry and the teasing…they are just too much fun. What starts as revenge turns into no strings and then moves into something real. They both have their issues they need to confront but the angst isn’t overpowering. I really enjoyed seeing past couples (Holt is still smoking HOT) and I am very much looking forward to more in this series.

I received an ARC through Net Galley in exchange for an honest review but I bought it too, since I want Sabrina to keep going with this series.

Sabrina York is AMAZING!

Hot and steamy, Devlin’s Dare not only have sexy scenes, but unbelievably funny scenes as well. Sabrina York has a knack of changing the narrative tone of the scene to depict whatever emotion she wants to bring out of the reader, somewhat like a chameleon. Moreover, she has an ability to develop her characters remarkably. Amusing and quirky exchanges between main characters and colorful side characters, and the attention-grabbing use of the Macarena dance (without background music, mind you), will leave the readers laughing. Devlin’s Dare is a good, well-written story.

Warning: Spanking and some BDSM elements are present.

I was given an e-copy of the book by The Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review—all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This was kind of quirky book for me. It wasn't bad, and I was really into the characters, but some of the things they said and did were a little out of the norm from what we knew of them

Even the dare part, which I would have loved to have seen more of, came out of nowhere. All of sudden, it was there. That would've been a good title, all of a sudden, as the entire book was like that

It was a good story and it kept my interest, but I never quite knew where it was going

Sabrina York has done it again! She has created yet another fabulous story in her Tryst Island series. Devlin's Dare is number 5 in the series and each book in my opinion is just as fabulous or maybe just a tiny bit more fabulous than the last. What I love about this series is we have met most of the characters already in previous stories, now with each new book we get even more acquainted with them.

Devlin is happily enjoying his play boy status and spending time with his friends on the beach. He has no intention at all settling down with just one woman. Devlin is a busy food critic who's reviews tend to be a little on the critical side. Little does Devlin know that one of his reviews is going to come back to bit him in the rear end.

When Devlin meets Tara Romano there are instant sparks. These two are drawn together from the moment they meet. That is until Tara finds out who Devlin is. Oh boy does she set out to get her revenge for what she considered a bad review. Devlin doesn't know what happened but he knows he sure can not get his mind of that sweet thing he met on the ferry and then again at the bar.

These two have a very interesting relationship after they get past the "review incident", well honestly even before then. I love the sparks between Devlin and Tara they are ready to ignite at a moments notice.

I also enjoyed the aspect that both Devlin and Tara had a sibling present in the story. I loved how Ms. York wove their story into the plot. They each are experiencing some major changes after serving their country. It's a great reminder of how so many hero's are coming home with either a physical or emotional challenge. I always enjoy when there is family involved in the storyline. It seems to add more to the story and let's us get to know the characters that much more.

If you enjoy a fun, really hot & steamy read, then you should check out this series. Sabrina York has done a great job of making each story so that it will stand alone if you have not had a chance to read the other four books in the series yet. If you want to start with this one and work your way back you will not have any problem at all. However, each book is wonderful so I would recommend this WHOLE series.

I was given the opportunity to read this book so that I may share my opinion with you. As always it has been my pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Devlin's Dare.

Despite the fact that I love to read, and have my favorites, there are few authors that I rush to purchase just knowing that I will enjoy what is in the pages. The Tryst Island series by Sabrina York is on my ‘you must have this when it is released’ list: romance, a beautiful setting, friends who are there for one another through everything, and always a smoking hot connection.

Starting with Devlin being “pantsed” behind Darby’s, the one night-spot on the island, this rollercoaster ride full of push and pull between Devlin and Tara was filled with giggles, sighs and wanting to shake the two senseless.

Tara is a friend of the “Dawgs” that share the house on Tryst Island. Always feeling like an outsider, her early years as an army brat with 19 different moves before finishing high school, nothing has ‘stuck’ for her BUT her bakery: now suffering after a less-than favorable review from one Devlin Fox.

Devlin is a player, and has never felt the need to be committed: until Tara invaded his senses, and enchanted him. He’s also struggling with his twin brother’s physical limitations after an IED lost him the use of his legs in Afghanistan. Seeing Charlie as “needing” his help, yet unable to see that despite the accident Charlie is making a life for himself, Devlin is conflicted.

These two are precious and oh so well matched: from their own conflicted feelings about relationships and commitment, to the undeniable attraction and banter that flies like a ping pong ball in an Olympic match, the only thing missing in this pairing is the neon sign and buggy eyes full of hearts when they gaze at one another.

Yet this is much more than a sexy pairing: there is a story here that will warm your heart as it shows the careful deconstruction of their walls. Letting another person in, giving voice to those deep fears hidden within and concealed with nonchalance and avoidance is scary. But, a jar of peanut butter goes a long way: and you will never pass that section of the grocery store without a smirk.

I purchased a copy of the title for my own personal library: I was not compensated for this review; all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Devlin’s Dare is book five in Sabrina York’s Tryst Island series. Although it is part of a series, each book can be read as a stand alone. The previous couples appear in subsequent books, but it doesn’t ruin the books if you decide to go back and read them. You will also meet the other inhabitants of Tryst Island, should you decide to drop back in for another visit later on.

Whether or not you are familiar with Tara, she is one of a group of friends that frequent a rental on Tryst Island, an vacation retreat reachable only by ferry. Devlin literally runs into Tara on the ferry, each with their respective group of friends. They are immediately attracted to each other, but Tara is just ending a relationship and she is very commitment phobic. Devlin is only after a good time. At least that is how it starts out.

Imagine their surprise when they find out that Devlin is the food blogger that left a less than positive review of Tara’s popular bakery and left her struggling to pay her rent and utilities for the month. Imagine Devlin’s surprise when her revenge left him out in the cold.... Literally.

This is another amazing book by Sabrina York. I love her writing style, her wit, her use of words to bring a story to life. I loved Tara and Devlin. I felt their connection, and I loved them as a couple. Devlin was such a jerk as first, I love the way he evolved through the story.

The other amazing part of this story was Devlin’s brother Charlie. He kind of snuck in and took over a big part of the book. I almost want him to have his own book. Some of the best quotes I highlighted in the book were from his part of the story. He is an amazing character, and his story is one that you will enjoy reading.

Overall, I give Devlin’s Dare five stars and I hope you will read it soon!

4.5 stars

"Devlin's Dare" by Sabrina York is part of the sensual ‘Tryst Island’ series that centers around a group of people who regularly visit the island. Devlin Fox enjoys lambasting pretentious restaurants on his food blog but he isn’t quite sure he appreciates his brother’s pithy evaluation of Devlin’s love life with the statement, “When you go through women like toilet paper, at some point you’re gonna hit the cardboard”. Tara Roman is determined to get revenge for Devlin’s criticism of her bakery, and she definitely does, even before he knows who she is. Too bad that isn’t enough to cool off the sizzling attraction they feel for each other, however, one of them doesn’t want a relationship with any strings attached and for that to work both of them have to agree to be on the same page. Working out the parameters of their agreement turns out to be much more entertaining than either of them ever anticipated.

This erotic romance novella is a fantastic addition to a fun series. The scorching relationship that develops between the main characters is beautifully balanced with the humorous situations wherein Tara displays her feisty nature by either absconding with items or denying them to Devlin. Devlin’s recruitment of his adorable nephew is inspired but I really enjoyed Tara’s response and her dexterity at turning the tables. There is a poignant element supplied by the reminder of the toll that war has taken upon many of our soldiers as is seen in each main character’s sibling and I look forward to seeing them in future stories as well. The author displays her usual dexterity at creating redeemable and fascinating characters while providing another very entertaining story and I look forward to getting to know even more of the people who visit this intriguing getaway spot.

I bought this book because it was offered as an online deal. Even though I've never read anything by this author before, I'm not one to pass up a deal. My Kindle is loaded with deals, and just by chance, I chose to read this one. I'm glad I did. I was surprised to see that this particular book is the fifth in a series and I'm one who tries to read series books in order. But it is definitely a stand-alone story. I will now have to go back and read the other stories to find out more about the characters who showed up here.

Devlin's Dare was fun. The characters were enjoyable and believable. Tara, who owns her own bakery, was slammed by a food critic and is trying to recover from the damage he did in his review. Who should she run into on the ferry to Tryst Island? The very same critic. The attraction is instantaneous and sizzling. She learns who he is and plots her revenge. He has no idea who she is and can't understand the compromising position she puts him when they meet at the local island pub. But the attraction will eventually overcome Tara's need to get him back for what he did.

As their story continues, there are the not-so-typical sex scenes with a hint of humor throughout. I liked the secondary characters. Charlie, Devlin's twin, a wounded warrior proving he can function on his own quite well who meets Tara's sister, Tina, who coincidentally is also a twin. I would assume that their story will be next. This is a quick read and I enjoyed it. I will definitely go back and read more of this series by Ms. York. I like reading new (to me) authors and this one didn't disappoint.

Another sweet story in this series.

This series is about quick-read, happy ending fun stories involving a group of friends who own a beach house on Tryst Island. Devlin is a food credit that gave Tara's bakery an average review. For revenge, she starts making out with him and then steals his pants. But neither can stop thinking about the other one. The next weekend they run into each other again and have what Tara considers a one night stand. Only Devlin wants more. But Tara is scared of commitment. They see each other again and Tara suggests a friend's with benefits relationship. Devlin turns her down because he'd like to date and see what happens. Both miss the other terribly. They run into each other again, and this time when friends with benefits is suggested, Devlin agrees but plans on making Tara want more.

Devlin is a super sweet hot guy. He's never wanted a serious relationship until Tara and you can't help but pull for him. Both characters are great and you get a few glimpses from the characters in the first four books. This story is told in dual POVs. There's a side story involving Tara's twin sister and Devlin's twin brother which is also very sweet. Really good book.

Really I give this 4 1/2 stars. I really wish there was a way to do that. I got this as a review book and it is the first Sabrina York book for me. I was not disappointed! The sex was super hot and I loved the different dares they had. Peanut butter will never be the same!
The story is actually pretty sweet, both Tara and Devlin are a little bit damaged and running from real relationships. I love that it is Tara who runs the hardest.
I also liked Tara's friends, I will definitely be reading some of their stories next.
So what kept me from that last bit of star?
Well there was one small mistake, when they go upstairs from the BDSM party he still doesn't know her name, but during sex he says something like "oh God, Tara, oh God", then later in the restaurant he learns her name. I actually had to go back and check, because that stupid little thing bugged me.
Also there were a few times when I wanted to shake them both for not talking about it and for making assumptions about things. Little stuff really.
It was a great story and I will surely read more of this series.

This is the first book I have read by Sabrina and I look forward to reading more from her. A friend offered me this book and I was hesitant at first because I had not read any of this series. I am always one to like to read a series from the start, but being this is a standalone I was hooked right from the start.

Devlin and Tara have this instant chemistry right from the start and it's off the charts H-O-T!! Neither one of them believed in relationships nor wanted one, but fate seemed to step in and changed both of their minds. As they are thrown together by their friends, they seemed to find out they care more for each other more than they ever thought was possible.

I loved seeing them both trying their best to deny their feelings but yet they couldn't seem to deny they were made for each other. Neither one puts up with the other's attitude and I love seeing how they change and learn to trust each other and how they grow together. This definitely makes me want to read more of this series!!

Another great story from Sabrina York in the Tryst Island series. I loved Devlin and Tara's push/pull dynamic in their "relationship". Devlin definitely got a bit of "just desserts" and "tables turned" in his dealings with Tara. Her past indelibly branded her against forming lasting relationships and it was terribly sweet and very sexy to see Devlin blow past all of her internal fortifications. There were many things to love about the story but I think the thing I absolutely loved the most was the pairing between Charlie and Tina. Totally. Sweet!

This is definitely a book I would recommend to anyone looking for a hot, sweet, and quick sexy read.

How did I miss this series? This is book 5 and though it stands alone well, I for one, was impressed enough to seek out the first 4. It was a fun read, a quick read, an enjoyable read. Sabrina York offers very strong engaging characters, well drawn and believable. The pacing is even and the settings detailed, the story well plotted and the dialogue appropriate to the characters and the situations. I liked that Ms. York writes with humor, even the passionate sex scenes had that hint of fun.
I will definitely read more from this author.

This book was amazing. Smoking Holt was smoking! But this one. . . It was totally combustible! When Devlin and Tara meet, sparks flew! Is this what happens when two commitment-phobics meet? Like all of the rest of the Tryst Island people, I loved these two. The minor sub-plot with each of their twins was just as engaging. HRH has done it again! Another HOT story that you will not want to miss!

I really love this series and devlin and tara are the 5th book! :-) i love how the characters from the other books make an appearance and devlin and tara forge their own way! doing their own foodie thing! :-) I loved the pbbj scene (you so have to read it) and it was steamy and hot all the way through! though I think devlin may have to do some shopping I loved every bit of tara's playfulness and his ability to go along with the dares! kept me going all the way through!

WooHooo another great story from the Tryst Iand series from Sabrina York.
Tara is a bold and commitment shy baker who has a grudge against the hot as can be foodie reviewer. Devlin is a man on a mission when he winds up in an alley without his pants and his dignity..because of hot Tara.
"Dare you" are two words that bring about some very interesting and hot scenes in this book. You'll never look at peanut butter the same way!! LOL
LOVED IT!!

I really liked Devlin's Dare. I admit it has been awhile since I read the previous books in the series so I had to refresh my memory about the different characters. I forgot that we were introduced to Devlin and Tara in the previous book. I really liked both Devlin and Tara. It was interesting to see how much they had in common and how they could both help the other grow. This is a fun, sexy series. I definitely recommend it.

I loved this book, once I started reading it I couldnt put it down. The humor in it is great. I cracked up at the way Tara treated Devlin the first half of the book. But I fell in love with Devlin pretty quick. It was refreshing reading a book were the guy wasnt a jerk in someway. I thought the side story with Devlin's brother and Tara's sister was great and added to the story.

*This book is part of a series and I would recommend you to read them in order because the setting and characters are a big part of the plot of the book.*

The best book so far in one of the best series that I've read lately!

The combination of perfect setting with amazing characters has once again shine in this series.

Devlin and Tara are amazing! They both avoid relationships and are usually looking for a good time without complications. This time is different. Tara's refusal to take him seriously bothers Devlin in a deeper level and makes him analyze his choices for the future.

That's not all! Their relationship is not the only conflict we find in this book. Devlin's perceptions and relationship with his family are also in play here and it's breathtaking. Really, Devlin's brother is awesome and he humbles me.

Do I have to mention that Ms. York's superb story telling is above most? She manages to bring to this book not one, but two great plot lines, with secondary characters shining on their own.

I can wait to read the next! I'm in love with all characters of this group of friends. I want to know more about them all.

If you are reading this series, don't worry, it's only getting better! If you haven't start yet, do it today!

Devlin Fox is a local food critic and has given Stud Muffins a 3 star review, much to owner Tara's dismay. Because of that review, she has lost customers, and is now in danger of losing her business, unless she adds some gluten free items to her menu. She also vows revenge against the man with the keyboard.
When the two meet by accident on the ferry over to Tryst Island, to spend the weekend at their respective beach houses, Tara is surprised to find the man that she is lusting over is non other than Devlin Fox. She quickly hatches a scheme to get back at him, embarrass him the way she was embarrassed. Except, that he is just as enamored of Tara as she is of him.
While keeping her name a secret, the pair start sniffing around each other, daring each other to go further in their flirtations, and begin a torrid affair.
Here's the problem- neither one does long term. Except that the longer they play with each other, the more they realize that they might want this, whatever it is, to go on for longer than a few mind blowingly awesome quickies in a closet.
Tara's past as an army brat plays heavily into her fear of being tied to someone permanently, because her childhood was never permanent. Something that she really hasn't gotten over. As for Devlin, he has never found a woman he wants to see again when the lust fades and the reality of a clingy woman shines brighter in the morning.
I have to say, as much as I love Sabrina York's writing, and I'm liking this series, I've found that they are just a little too short for me to really love. At under 200 pages, I feel like the stories are rushed, character development is there, but not developed enough, and because there are so many characters, they get short shrift, and I feel confused because I'm sure there are a few who have never been mentioned before, and I'm not sure how they play into the overall series.
But, that being said, this series is one that definitely should be on everyone's to-read list, and hopefully, the series won't end with just the six books that are currently available.

What a smoking, steamy, awesome read! Another great one from Sabrina York. Also important to note here, unlike a lot of the crap and sludge in the market, you are ACTUALLY getting a great plot to boot. that's always a winner in my book.

We also see Devlin struggle with his contradictory emotions concerning his twin brother, and the realization that while his brother might have lost his legs, it didn’t make it impossible to live his life with purpose and determination.

Devlin and Tara are well matched, and the chemistry is evident from the very beginning. There is an attraction there from the very beginning and both characters have similar issues with relationships and a deep fear of commitment. But you also get to see what can happen when you take a chance and trust someone with your heart and let your guard down. Yes, it’s a scary feeling, and yes, of course you can get hurt, but when it pays off, boy do you get the big reward. Unconditional love.

Devlin is hot and he knows it. He is used to getting whatever and whomever he wants. Don't get him wrong tho, he is a foodie with a popular food blog and is constantly worried about his cripple of a brother. Don't yell at me for calling him a cripple-his brother does. Constantly.

Tara is also hot and knows it but is perfectly content keeping relationships at a distance as she works on growing her bakery which has recently hit a snag thanks to Devlin's scathing review about her lack of gluten-free stuffs. An accidental meeting with a group of friends on Tryst Island leads to a dare, sparks and lots of no strings sex.

I don't know. I started out really disliking Devlin and he wasn't able to make much of a recovery. Tara won me over with a hilarious depantsing outside the bar when Devlin really thought he was getting a happy ending from a hot stranger. Good grief.
