Rosie Stanton climbed on a west-bound train to answer his ad for a wife and mother, everything she wants to be. But Tom Harris lied. He doesn't want a wife, merely a mother for his two abandoned children and a cook and cleaner for his ranch.
Betrayed once, he's vowed never to let another woman into his heart. Sexy Rosie upsets all his plans and threatens to invade his scarred heart. How will he maintain his vow to keep his hands off her as she charms his children, his cow hands, his life?
Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.
Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.
Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this. It was a quick, fun read. The two main characters, Rosie and Tom were both extremely naive about what they were getting into with this mail order bride situation, which made it more believable. Although they communicated through letters before Rosie came cross country by train to start this new life, there were a few VERY important things they didn't discuss, especially the idea of future children together. They also didn't anticipated the immediate strong attraction they would feel for each other. This of course leads to trouble because Tom makes it know right away that he doesn't want a romantic connection, just a caretaker for his home and children, which is not what Rosie had expected. I really enjoyed seeing these two grow together. Rosie was a sweet, strong, compassionate, hard working woman that knew what she wanted and was determined to get it. Tom tried to fight the immediate attraction and even treated Rosie badly. It didn't take long thought for his chivalrous side to emerge. Throw in a family emergency to help force Tom and Rosie to truly join forces and you have a great story.
I haven't read a Western in a while and thought this would be a good change of pace. I was not disappointed.
Tame a Wild Bride is the third book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. I have not read the other 2 books, so I don't have any back story. However, I had not trouble keeping pace with the characters or the story line.
Tame a Wild Bride is the story of Rosie, a mail order bride, escaping from her city life to claim a life of her own. True to the way of life in the early Western days, Tame a Wild Bride shows the hardships, trials, and joys of frontier life. At the same time, Rosie and Tom discover feelings and a love for each other.
Ms. Woolf does a wonderful job of showing the struggles of frontier life as well as developing a story line that follows a good Western movie: hardships, characters that struggle, a mystery to be solved, and a family that learns to love. Rosie and Tom's story pulled at my heartstrings and delivered great steamy, love scenes. Makes me wish for my own cowboy.
Story was okay overall, but predictable. What I had problems with more than predictabitlity was: Rosie spoke and acted more modern than the story setting. She chuckled at "balls" when she meant a dance and Tom had thought for a second a male part. For a virgin, in those times, she wouldn't know about a man's balls. She also didn't blink when he said he would "f**k" her. And a man in those days wouldn't say that to his new bride unless he was a real scumbag, who had no respect for women. Rosie bought see through lingerie and also plotted seducing him. I don't see a respectable virgin of those times planning that. Also, she had $5,000, which made her rich back then, so why was she in a rush to marry a stranger and be his slave willingly when he had lied to her?! Lies of omission, but HUGE lies! Was very deceitful. Not only about him not wanting to have more kids and she does (as the vast majority of women wanted then), but also that instead of her having to cook and clean for her, him, and his two kids, but she'd also have to cook for 15 men, who worked on the ranch on top of doing a ton of daily backbreaking chores. He wanted a slave and a mother substitute for his kids. I was mad at Rosie because she JUST got mad at Tom for him hiding the fact he didn't want kids. I would have been pissed that he never said she'd have to cook for 15 other people in addition to his family! I'm sure she knew she'd have to do some ranch chores, but she didn't know she'd have to cook for the ranch hands too. The fact that she came from a wealthy family and had to cook and clean for her brother was a bit unbelievable. And it was unbelievable that she'd put up with Tom demanding she'd cook for 19 people daily for three meals a day in addition to numerous chores. I would have hightailed it somewhere else. She could have married another man if she wanted, who would be more her level of wealth and wouldn't treat her like a slave. Yes, eventually, he hired someone to help her, but it still wasn't enough help. He should have had a separate cook for the ranch hands. And she just cook for the family. I was cringing so much throughout this book. I couldn't like Tom for all this. PLUS, his reasoning for not wanting a real marriage and other children didn't make sense. He said all women leave. Only his wife left. If the author had also said his mother had left his father as a kid that would give him more reason not to trust women and believing they'd always leave. But there was no mention of his parents. Also, he said he never knew his previous wife had a brother and he just assumed she was an orphan since she never mentioned family. Um...hello...didn't he EVER talk to his previous wife whom he was married to for NINE YEARS. I honestly don't blame the first wife for leaving. He even said he never loved the first wife. I don't like she left the kids, but I don't totally blame her for leaving Tom if his expectations of her were anything like what he expected Rosie to do. And he never talked to a wife of 9 years about her family and her life. 🤦♀️🤷♀️ I see no reason why Rosie would have fallen in love with Tom.I saw very little chemistry between them. There was some mentions how they found each other attractive, but I didn't see how Rosie could fall for someone like Tom.

Wanted: Single woman to cook, clean, and care for children on a cattle ranch in southwestern Colorado. Will marry upon arrival
Review in English :
Rosamund aka Rosie crave a home and family, especially her own home and family, because her sister in law objected her to live with them.
The opportunity came when she read the advertisement contains:
Wanted: Single woman to cook, clean, and care for children on a cattle ranch in southwestern Colorado. Will marry upon arrival
Tom Harris, is the man who made the advertisement and chose Rosie as a substitute for his dead wife, but he promised that he would not be bound by his new wife especially emotional ties because he does not want to experience the same thing and thought that all women are the same and will eventually left.
But that it’s not Rosie, she is defference and determined to make Tom think otherwise and win his heart and make their marriage a real marriage, she even tried to seduce Tom who initially refused to sleep together and having children anymore because Tom does not want to be left by his wife and with an additional child (not because he did not love children), but because he already had two children and was afraid the children will also have an impact if their mothers gone again.
Rosie must not only win Tom’s heart but also his two childrens : Ben and Suzie
Will Rosie won their hearts and become part of their family? Meanwhile, someone is working on a plan to get something that is owned by Rosie (the dowry of 5000 pounds) and sent someone who is really unsuspected and even knows about Tom’s family so well to commit a crime? Then who the unexpected person is?
My opinion about this book:
This story is very simple andtype of story that I like even more when the man tried to deny his attraction to women who actually had his attention from the first time and sometimes said the words that hurt the woman, but in his hearts is regretted and began to change when he knew that the woman does not deserve such treatment because she is different, and to be gentle and loving. It’s story about second chances.
4 stars for this book especially because the author is so kind to send the book whereas she already sent ebook to me
Tame a Wild Bride by Cynthia Woolf follows the adventures of Rosie Stanton, a city-born girl who agrees to travel west to marry a young rancher with children. Back in 1890, genteel women seldom had adventures, they lived sedate lives composed of plate painting, music recitals, and bringing up children. Bad news was none of that was happening for our heroine, Rosie.
If being a spinster wasn’t bad enough, Rosie finds herself on her brother and new sister-in-law’s good graces since both her parents are dead. Two adult women cannot live in the same house in peace, especially if one of them is Rosie’s sister-in-law. With her fingers crossed, and hope in her heart, she willingly boards the train to travel west to an unknown bridegroom, a widower with two motherless children.
The handsome man who meets her surprises her with his bitter attitude, and refusal to have any more children. Tom Harris, her groom, rushes her off to the preacher with the travel dirt still on her face so they can be respectably married before picking up the children and heading home. Rosie not only battles with her husband’s attitude that she’ll leave too, but also the memories of the deceased wife she assumes Tom loved beyond belief.
Rosie seems to have everything going for her, with the children liking her, and Tom changing his ways, when the “deceased” wife returns. It is never a good thing when that happens. Rosie is a fighter, but the other female is pure evil, and has the law is on her side as Tom’s legal wife. Rosie is a spunky heroine who refuses to let unknown tasks and a bitter man get her down too much. The fact she wrestles with the reminders of the former indulged wife all around the house makes her more human, and likable. The chemistry between Tom and Rosie is good. The children are willing to accept her, as most abandoned children would be when presented with a kindly surrogate. The wife that wouldn’t go away is reminiscent of stalker girlfriends. See they even existed over a hundred years ago.
Tame a Wild Bride is a sweet historical romance with just the right amount of sexual tension, and suspense. This book has the feel of Avalon publishing. If you’re an Avalon fan, then this is the book for you.
Here I go stepping back in time again to another time zone where I have got into reading romances centering around mail order brides. I just am fascinated on how women who answered the ads or went to these agencies really took a chance and said yes to vertically a complete stranger. In this one I met Rosemary or Rosie for short and since she considered herself average and only thing a guy wanted from her was the little bit of money she had she answers a ad on a mail order bride in Southwestern Colorado. Then it says marriage upon arrival. Oh does she have some guts, she gets on that train and off she goes. She will be cooking, cleaning and caring for small children. Ya think he would of just hired a maid. So it was intriguing he wants a bride a widower he is. Ok must need more than a maid (hint hint). Tom meets her and boy does she like the looks of him. But right away on their wedding night he lowers the boom and says there will be no more children and no love but they will be acting as a husband and wife should in same room. Oh if I was her I would of hit him good but she takes in good graces and tells him she was lied too and mislead but she is going nowhere not like the first one did. So and away it goes they go along to get kids one boy and one girl and she has lots to learn about being on a ranch lots of work. The author builds a fascinating relationship between the two and enjoyable reading it is. Everything is not as it appears with him and his feelings either. He does like her and her looks he liked and boy will his words come back and bite him in the butt. But all is not happyville as they grow as a family. There is someone from the past lurking to get at Tom and they want money. So danger is included in this romance. I also love how she brings it all together at the end after the drama. Both characters have a lot of spunk and that too helps with making it a good read.
It's been a very long time since I've read a real western novel so I thought I'd give this one a try when Black Lion Virtual Books presented it to me. I'm glad I did. It took me on a nostalgic trip to my younger days...John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara...old western movies and when times were simpler and love was love. Cynthia Woolf is a born storyteller in the old-fashioned sense. She's one who knows how to grip you from the first pages and carry you through without giving you a minute to draw your breath. I literally read this book in one sitting. It moves in lightening speed! Her plot is not complicated but her main characters are. Rosie is a woman any of us would be proud to know and call a role model. Tom's sexiness bleeds through... I liked him, lots!!! While this is not a book with a serious story line or a deep secret to tell, it is; nevertheless, very entertaining to read. As I said above, it took me on a very happy trip to my younger days and I liked that. For lovers of Harlequin Romance novels set in the west, this is the perfect book! 3 stars for a fun read.
Rosie and Tom. Tom advertises for a wife, but really he just wants someone to care for his kids and cook and clean. Rosie accepts and is heartily disappointed when she gets there to find out it won't be a true marriage, but one of convenience. She comes from a well to do family out east but when her brother remarries, she realizes she doesn't like his new wife. But she's stuck now, cause if she goes back, nobody will marry her. She makes the best of it, and Tom is quite the jerk but it doesn't take him long to realize his mistake. Not every woman is like his first wife who ran off and was killed in a carriage accident. It doesn't take some outside event to open his eyes to the good thing he has with Rosie, which was nice change from the usual trope. But then bad guys do intervene, but are easily defeated. I find this a author's style kinda simplistic and her characters seem very similar, but this one was pretty entertaining and nicely balanced. For those worried about OW drama
I don't understand how a woman of means was cooking and cleaning in her brother's home alongside the staff. Maybe if we had received more of a back story about ill treatment by her sister in law would have helped to explain why she was desperate enough to become a mail-order bride. Also, since she had $5000.00, I don't understand what drove her to marry immediately after being mistreated and finding out that she had been lied to. She could have taken a job or returned to her brother.
I also didn't understand Tom's actions. His first wife might have hurt his pride but that doesn't give him the right to make another woman pay for her sins. If he wanted to avoid having a second woman leave, he should have fully disclosed his expectations in order to prevent misunderstandings. I disliked him from the moment that he didn't offer her to option to freshen up of eat something after her long journey.
Estuvo bien, nada espectacular.
I really liked this story. It is a simple, yet at times emotional story. Rosie is a straightforward, honest woman, who just wants a family and place of her own. She comes to be Toms mail order bride, and Tom quickly tells her that he just wants her to be a mother to his kids and a house keeper. Tom was badly burned by his 1st wife. The mystery at the end was quick and wrapped up quickly, and seemed a little unnecessary. It just seemed to be a way to get Tom to recognize his feelings.
For me this was the best of the series. But again it could be read as a stand alone and you would not be missing anything. This is about Rosie & Tom, she is the mail order bride and he fully intends to not love another woman as his previous wife hurt him. Tom about works Rosie to death in the beginning of this story. I think that the author hit it out of the park with this book.
What a strong women that could go into the west with no knowledge of the man that she would be marrying..I would like to think I am that strong, but doubtful. I enjoyed the writing and the story line.I received this book from Goodreads.com.
I won this one as a Goodreads giveaway. Not something I typically read, but that's what I like about the giveaways. It was good. Pretty predictable, but there was a little mystery in there. It was a perfect quick summer read.
Cynthia Woolf’s To Tame a Wild Bride is a charming old west mail-order bride romance; but, in this one, Ms. Woolf, adds a bit of intrigue. Her story line depicts the struggles and the hardships of frontier life. Ms. Woolf is a masterful storyteller and accomplishes this through her character-driven plot to keep her readers riveted. The protagonists, Rose and Tom, like most romance novel leads are damaged. They are redeemed by their positive qualities. I appreciate the way Ms. Woolf weaves several themes into her plot line such as trust issues, finding love, and starting over. There is always an antagonist, and, in this tale, it is Tom’s deceased wife, Serena who ran away from their marriage and abandoned their children. It’s a fascinating twist how a deceased wife can be the antagonist, but to further explain would be a spoiler. To discover how I suggest you read this book. The literary devices of witty dialog and descriptive language contributes to realistic scenes.
(A few curse words are in this review. Just a warning.)
The title doesn't fit the book at all. Rosie isn't wild whatsoever.
The dialogue is all over the place, sometimes more modern sounding that it should be and other times simply just awkward.
Rosie's characterization is strange as well. She's scandalized at the prospect of possibly having to cook on a chuck wagon, but doesn't even blink when Tom tells her that he's eventually going to fuck her, just not on the first night. Whaaat? So she's a lady (from a well to do family in 1890) that has no sexual experience or knowledge but is fine, not shocked, with a strange man telling her that he wants to fuck her. Okaaay...

Tom needs a wife or maybe a slave. He ordered a mail order bride but he really just wanted mother for his kids until he saw her then she was so pretty he figured he better marry her so she wouldn’t leave. Rosie worked herself to exhaustion and never complained. She fell in love with Tom and his children Ben and Susie. The kids loved her too. It took a long time for Tom to realize what kind of person she was and that he was in love with her too. Jo
Great story and well written Tom just wanted someone to cook clean and take care of his ranch and children where disenchanted to belong and have of family of her own Rosie set her sites on wanting Tom to want and love her in the end it all worked out for the best and Tom Rosie Ben and suzie all had their HEA would highly recommend
I listened to this book on audio. The reader was really good separating voices to characters.
I loved the plot and characters of this book. I loved that Rosie had gumption. Tom and Rosie made a great couple. The story flowed very nicely and I am looking forward to reading more.
Nice little story of a mail order bride. An evil ex wife and someone out to get the brides money from her dowry. And if course winning over the new groom.
I'll say I am not a fan of historical romances, but this one, I loved. Tom, Rosie, and the whole family made me fall in love with their story. I voluntarily reviewed this audiobook.
