Princess Athena never could have imagined that one indiscretion during the royal ball would end in her true love’s execution. Then again, she had also believed Cain to be her literal knight in shining armor, not an impoverished thief in disguise.
Still reeling from a broken heart and a guilty conscience, Athena is further disturbed by the prospect of an arranged marriage until the humiliated king offers her an impossible marry the only man who would have her after the compromising public incident, or be sentenced to the same fate as Cain.
Surprisingly, her potential fiancé is empathetic, as his affections too lie elsewhere. But when a ghost from the past haunts Athena the night before her wedding, she’ll face the most painful decision of all. Will she find herself trapped in a loveless but secure union, or sacrifice everything to pursue the romance of a lifetime—and risk starting an all-out war between two deadly kingdoms?
If you adore Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton and the medieval suspense of Julie Garwood’s Highland novels, then The Princess and the Thief is your next unputdownable adventure.

Complete and utter drivel. This was one of the dumbest books I've ever read. Contemporary authors should not write historical fiction and the love story was completely unbelievable. They would die for each other after only meeting three times!? Wtf.
My 2 ⭐ rating is overly generous. I almost DNF multiple times. I can't tell you why I decided to finish it. The whole book was difficult to believe.
Princess Athena meets a peasant named Cain while walking and swimming in the lake. He tells her he is a knight. She believes his story. But then she finds out he’s a peasant. She’s devastated, and is told she must marry a prince. So, she and Prince Henry agree to marry. Henry is in love with a peasant also. But Athena can’t go thru with the wedding. She declines and runs off. War starts between the two kingdoms. And, her younger brother is kidnapped. Can she and Cain get her brother back? What will happen when a war is starting?
This was an amazing story. Romeo and Juliet...on steroids! And while I don't know where or when the story unfolded, as it appears to be an imaginary place, the story was big, bold, raw, heartbreaking... But through it all, love triumphed. Bravery clothed the most unlikely people. The ending was beautiful! I highly recommend this book. Be warned...you may stay up much later than you think you will.
An unusual story, it captured my attention. So much betrayal and treachery. Could true love last between a princess and a peasant? I loved the bravery of those who tried to do what was right in spite of the risk of death. An entertaining even if not realistic read.
Adventurous and Romantic! What else can we ask for? It is about, family, life and love ❤️ And life and relationships and hardship and how humans react to different family situations. Enjoy!
I was engrossed in this book from the beginning. I had trouble putting it down and finished it the same day I picked it up. So much heartbreak and love.
