The article would make front page news, if she lived long enough to write it.

In the heart of Paris, a trendy nightclub harbors a dark secret—it’s a front for a human trafficking ring. It’s also Finlay Giammarino’s only lead to find her friend’s sister. Exposing the club’s owner isn’t enough for the investigative journalist. Finlay is determined to bring the men at the top to justice.

Desperate, Finlay does the one thing she swore she’d never do—ask Drake Reeves for help. The former Navy SEAL has made it unmistakably clear how he feels about journalists. But he has skills and Finlay has reached a dead end.

Finlay and Drake are thrust into a world of shadows, lies, and secrets where every step forward unravels another layer of deception. How far are they willing to go for the truth?

Mavery Ellscott has quickly become one of my go to authors. She is one author readers should get behind. After reading the first book Shadowed Obsession I was hooked. You can read each standalones, but I encourage you to read them in order because the characters interchange and you really will be missing out on all the delicious darkness. The stories just keep getting better and better.
Shadowed Deception is the third gripping book in the Shadow Defense Security series, and I think my favourite so far which hard because they have all been my favourite. I love the thrill of strong alpha males in protective mode and equally strong female leads.
I love a riveting suspense thriller, and this is one thrilling ride with twisty and surprising turns. I found myself on the edge of my set more often than not as the tension is palpable. Lets not forget the hot and sexy ex SEALs.
The characters are well developed and interesting and plot lines that are dark and gritty but feel believable. It is a captivating and engrossing, and an absolute must read you won't be disappointed.
I need more now. I love a good psychological suspense thriller and Mavery delivers.

Suspense, twists, and unconditional love. This series is already dominating my top five favorite series already. While Drake was sprinkled into book one, and both were in book two, this is finally their time and their story. Dual perspective of Finlay and Drake.
Finlay is an investigative journalist, while on a mission in Mexico she met a seventeen-year-old girl, Gabriella, whose younger sister, twelve-year-old Lola, was taken into the worse trading business in the world. Without hesitation Gabriella flew to Paris in search of her sister and ended up in a trap that landed her owned by Evan. A chance moment taken Gabriella called Finlay who without question flew to Paris and went undercover to help. Thanks to her new best friend, Regan from book two, Drake was sent to look out for her on this dangerous mission. Drake had been watching and thought it was an overexaggerated on Regan’s part until he saw the clues and released that Finlay was poking around something far too big for one person to take on alone. All along the way Drake constantly is battling himself and his attraction to Finlay, while she wants him but thinks he hates her and only sees her as his enemy. Drake’s vast dislike of journalists first showed up in book two and continues here. He understands the power of words and how they can hurt people, only he starts to question his hatred of them when it comes to Finlay, she’s not like them. Finlay wants to better the world and safe everyone she can by exposing bad situations. Everything combined leads to some very intense moments but when the boss that even psycho Evan is afraid of is revealed, is anyone going to be safe again?
Can Finlay keep her promise to save Gabriella and Lola? Will Drake allow himself to follow his heart? Who is the big boss? What do they have to do with Finlay? The characters, honestly keep you coming back time and time again with each little tease. Especially with Drake popping in here and there and now finally getting his story was chef’s kiss. While his reason for hating journalists was sound, he was unfair to lump them all together. Finlay finally accepts she needs help and that she’s not alone. Every page leads to more shock and awe as the story unfolds and leaves you needing answers. Now I am torn between wanting more of Finlay and Drake and really hoping book four will be about Seb and Alexis. Either way I can’t wait, and I’ll see you there when the time comes.

This author manages to weave the steam in with the suspense in mesmerizing ways. In this addition to the series, there are a few surprises along the way. The distrust adds to the tension throughout the story. Not everyone is who they seem to be.

Finlay, an investigative reporter, is undercover as Fiona trying to find a friend’s younger sister that has gotten caught up in the world of human trafficking. Finlay might have jumped into this investigation unprepared, not only for what she discovers but for the situation. Finlay jumped without looking when her friend called in a panic about the sister. Now Finlay is about 10 days from walking away from the club where she is working as a mixologist and exposing what actually goes on at the club. Finlay knows the organization is bigger than what goes on at the bar, but she didn’t realize how big or that she kicked the hornet’s nest getting this far.

Drake is only going to check on Finlay because she is friends with the boss’ wife. That is what he tells himself anyway when he agrees to take this assignment. When he walks in and sees what is going on and who the players are, Drake knows that Finlay is not only in over her head but also in danger. No matter how Drake tries to convince Finlay to let the special investigative security company he works for, composed of former military special forces operatives, take over the investigation, Finlay won’t budge. Finlay made a promise to her friend and she plans to see it through.

As Finlay and Drake get closer to the truth, the danger increases. People are being thrown out of windows and disappearing. Friends are risking their own safety for Finlay and she won’t let anyone get hurt for her. Finlay, Drake and company agree to a plan but things go wrong when Finlay goes missing from the club. As things come closer to the end, Finlay finds out who her true friends are. And, who her true family is.

There is so much heat between Finlay and Drake…wow! I hope we get to see some of these characters again! Seb and Alexis seem great together! Zola is strong and a survivor. I have a feeling that Gabriella is not gone forever. But we can only wait (not so patiently) and see. Jump into this series now!!

This is the 3rd book in the Shadowed Defense Security series. Each book can be read as a standalone however I think after reading one you would want to read them all.
These books are great. Their is a gripping crime thriller aspect as well as a romance. The main make characters are always so protective which I love but what I also like is that the female lead character are strong and independent on their own. The characters compliment each other in every sense.
This is a story that is gripping right from the beginning and is so action packed that I couldn't put it down. Their is danger around every corner and my heart was beating fast throughout not only because of the danger but because of the electric chemistry between our 2 main character.
Drake and Finlay have crossed paths before and when Drake is sent to fetch Finley home he knew the task wouldn't be an easy one.
Finley is a journalist who is on the brink of breaking a huge story and bringing down a human trafficking ring, however she doesn't realise just how dangerous the situation is that she finds yourself. While she is undercover she is also trying to locate her friends sister, however the people she is working for aren't the sort of people you want to mess with or cross.
When Drake arrives to convince her to return, she refuses so now Drake and the team at Shadow Defense have to work alongside her to keep her safe and take down the human trafficking organisation for good.
However this isn't as easy as it sounds and with the danger getting higher and higher around Finley, Drake gets more and more concerned that she is in over her head.
Will Finley be able to locate her friends sister? Will her cover be blown and her life placed in danger? And what will happen if Drake and Finley gives into their chemistry?
This was a great read that I couldn't put down and I can't wait to read more from this author.

This is the third full length novel in this awesome suspenseful series! Finlay is an investigative reporter who is not afraid to put everything on the line to take down the scum who profit off others’ suffering. She is currently working as a mixologist in a club suspected of trafficking. Since her friend has not heard from her for days, they send in Drake from Shadow Security to check on her! What he finds is a very dangerous situation for everyone involved!

The boss has taken a HUGE liking to her, which is not a good thing. She is working with an undercover cop who has been made by the enemy! Drake is trying to cover bases everywhere he turns to keep people safe…especially, Finlay. They are drawn to one another but have to be careful. In their quest to find the man at the top, people are going to get hurt and killed.

Drake is posing as an entrepreneur that is trying to make a deal with the boss. Finlay is not falling in line with their plans. She will have to strike out on her own to follow the boss, so they do not lose their chance to nab him. A woman posing as someone else will also be in the mix that will cause many problems. When more than just Finlay’s life is at stake, Drake will have to pull some magic out of his hat to ensure all come out whole. They do not count on the one person that Finlay discovers is involved with the trafficking that could send everything down the drain.

This is another exciting suspenseful action-packed story that will keep you on the edge of your seat hoping that everyone comes out of the mix alive and in one piece! But it will not end here…there will be more dealings with those who deserve to be killed or imprisoned at some later point! I seriously recommend starting this journey and adding the series to your books!

Well Shadowed Deception is definitely an adventure. But not the fun type of adventure. The author brings us another challenge. Yet a budding attraction between two characters.
Finley is on assignment. Deep undercover at a nightclub trying to get as much information as possible. She knows about the trafficking but doesn’t know the details on where/how the women come in or are sold. She’s determined to find her friend's sister as well as bring the ring down completely. Unfortunately it’s making her feel guilty for the innocents that will lose their jobs.
Drake dislikes journalists. Yet he’s in Paris chasing after the one journalist in his life that’s chasing a story. Finley is a piece of work, but she’s in so deep he has no choice but to get help from his team. as they gather information it’s becoming more apparent that Finley needs to stop because she’s going to end up in serious trouble. It also doesn’t help his growing feelings for her.
What will they do?
Do they succeed?
What connection does Finley’s father have to all this?
The author keeps the reader on a crazy ride. Keeps you turning the page. Keeps you asking questions that you hope don’t take too long to answer. With the dark sub plots just be mindful of what you’re getting yourself into. It’s really good book so it’s definitely worth it!

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story begins with Finlay in Paris after leaving Mexico to find Gabriella's sister Lola who had been taken by the cartel. Finlay is now working at a bar along with Gabriella and Zora who are also helping. Finlay has told Gabriella that she and Zora need to leave the country. Gabriella refuses and convinces Finlay to wait a few more days. Unknown to Finlay, Drake has been sent to watch over her. She learns of him when Drake steps in once a drunk accosts her.

Drake then gets involved in Finlay's quest to bring down the place where she works as a mixologist because it also deals with trafficking girls. Drake has requested additional support, so Seb comes to back him up. Eventually a plan is laid out for them to rescue the girls that were being held at the Niteclub. The day of the rescue arrives, but Evan, the club owner, throws a wrinkle into the plan because of infatuation with Fiona, Finlay's alias, and places her somewhere that will hinder her from doing her job.

Learn what plan had for Zora, what steps Drake and his supporters had for the rescue, what Finlay did during the rescue as well as who was backing Evan in his enterprise, then you need to read this book.

The story ends with another of Mavery's excellent finishes. This is one you don't want to miss!

Wow! I just LOVE these stories! This was just as thrilling as the previous in the series have been. I read this in a couple days. The story is action packed with a suspenseful side. This just Wowed me! I loved how we dive right in and the story really entranced me. The main characters are nothing short of extraordinary. Finlay is so confident and strong! She won’t let another push her around or treat her poorly. She is not afraid to stand up for herself and the way she finagles her way in and out of tight spots is impressive. Drake is one of the team we learn a bit about in here. He basically has one job to do but does not realize who he is up against. Then he has to reassess the whole situation.

Secondary characters are plentiful. They all had a purpose and they served it well. My only issue is it seemed that once they were off-page they disappeared to either never be heard from again or until their purpose was served. I get the main storyline is about whats going on between the MC but a line stating they made it to safety or something would have sufficed.

Overall this is an exciting and thrilling adventure we tag along on. I look forward to more in this series!

A gripping psychological thriller with plenty of suspense and romance and a touch of humour. Investigative journalist, Finlay Giammarino has an article fit for the front page, but it has also put her life in danger. She wants to expose the owner of a trendy nightclub in the heart of Paris, as she’s discovered it is a front for a human trafficking ring. It is also the only lead she has to finding her friend’s missing sister. Finley is determined to bring the men at the top to justice, and so in desperation asks former Navy SEAL, and journalist hater, Drake Reeves for help. The pair then find themselves immersed in a world of secrets and lies but to find the truth they must unravel the deception. This was a real fast paced, page turner with an action-packed storyline and plenty of plot twists which kept me hooked. Both the characters and the setting come to life through the descriptive narrative making me feel immersed in the story. It is the third instalment in an enjoyable and exciting series of standalone novels.

Shadowed Deception is the third book in the Shadow Defense Security series by Mavery Ellscott. I have been really enjoying this series, so there was no question whether I would be reading this instalment or not. I dove in as soon as it hit my Kindle and lost myself in the story for a few hours.
I felt this book amped things up a bit, and for me, it deemed like it was a bit edgier with more darker tones than the previous two books had- which I loved. It is a thrilling romantic suspense with danger, dramatic developments, tension, chemistry, agendas, action, mystery, the shadowy underworld of human trafficking, emotion, adventure, twists, secrets, lies, deception, layers, interesting characters, a web of intrigue, and steam — which all added up to a very engrossing read….. and (the book/series) would translate well onto the screen as well, making for a great movie.
I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Mavery Ellscott!

Shadowed Deception: A Psychological Suspense Thriller (Shadow Defense Security Series) by Mavery Ellscott. I love this series and I loved this book. Its the continuing story of Finlay, a investigative journalist, who is deep undercover working at a bar trying to get information on the trafficking going on. She is in Paris on assignment and Drake from Shadow Defense Security is there to check on her because he feels she may be in over her head. Drake is a former Navy Seal and now is a partner of Shadow Defense Security. Drake dislikes journalists a lot but Finlay is becoming a good pain. It doesn't help with his growing attraction to her and the last thing he wants is a relationship especially with a journalist. Finlay promised a friend she met in Mexico that she would help her find her sister who had been kidnapped. Will Finlay be able to help her friend without getting herself in trouble. Read this fast paced thriller to find out!

This series quickly became my favorite, and somehow the books just keep getting better! I devoured this book in a day because I couldn’t put it down, so definitely clear your schedule when you pick it up. I thoroughly enjoy the romantic suspense genre, but books tend to lean more on the romance side than suspense. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this one was more like a thriller with some steamy romance expertly mixed in. The chemistry between the characters popped off the pages, and I really enjoyed the flow of the story as well. I also feel like I’m pretty good at guessing the direction the story is heading but the author crafted so many flawless twists and turns that I couldn’t predict anything! I just finished this book and I already want to get lost in the next book. I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for us next, don’t pass this incredible book (and series) up!

(4.5) Did not see that twist, ok, there are several, but the one that through me was not the big one. LOL - I can't explain without spoilers. Book 3 can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend reading books 1 and 2 first. Shadowed Deception is a little darker with the human trafficking aspect but handled deftly. It is indeed a Psychological Suspense Thriller! At times I did not want to turn the page because I wasn't sure what I would read, but then I had to turn to find out what was happening. It started off deceptively low keyed and quickly ramps up. Was thrilled to get Finlay and Drakes story! So glad I found Mavery Ellscott, or maybe she found me, I just know I will be reading everything she writes. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #ShadowedDeception #ShadowDefenseSecurity #MaveryEllsott #Kindle #Bookfunnel

I am really enjoying this series and am hoping that there will be more books to enjoy! This author is making her way to my favorites list also. I enjoy her writing style and the stories that she weaves.

This book could be read as a stand alone but I would recommend you starting at the beginning of the series to get the full story on how Shadow Defense came to be.

This story started off just a tad slow for me but that was short-lived. I soon found myself lost in the story and read this all in one setting. There is a lot of action and suspense with a little bit of romance thrown in. You'll find yourself loving a character then hating them the next page. This book does discuss some difficult issues so use caution if this would bother you.

A great read that goes by quickly!

Shadowed Deception is book 3 of the Shadow Defense Security Series by Mavery Ellscott, which is preceeded by Book 1- Shadowed Obsession and Book 2- Shadowed Agenda. Finlay is an investigative journalist, who is undercover as Fiona, working at a bar trying to uncover a human trafficking ring to help save her friend's sister. Drake is there to "check on" Finlay, but quickly discovers that she is in over her head and needs help! There is so much tension and steam between Finlay and Drake, and Shadowed Deception is a wild and thrilling ride that will not disappoint. I've really enjoyed this series so far, and I'm really looking forward to more from this author! (Hoping that Seb will be next!!!) Also, just wanted to add that this book COULD be read as a standalone but trust me when I say you'll want to read the whole series!

Captivating and Action-Packed

Mavery Ellscott has done it again. I was drawn into the world of Finlay and Drake in the last book Shadowed Agenda, but when I tell you I could not put this one down, I mean that you would have had to pry it from my hands. Each book keeps getting better and more interesting, powerful, detailed, and fun to read. I was so enthralled with the world-building in this book and the attention Mavery gives to even the smallest of details is astounding and refreshing. I am full on a member of Mavery’s fan club and cannot get enough of it! Finlay gets in over her head as an investigative reporter and now is hoping that Drake and the others at Shadow Defense Security can help her stay alive while getting to the bottom of this case. 100% a 6-star read for me, just as the others in this series have been!

This was a thrilling 5 star read. I was pulled in right from the beginning. Finlay is working undercover to try and break a trafficking ring. When a dangerous man starts to show interest in her, things take a scary twist. Drake works with Shadow Defense and he was sent to find her, will he be able to keep her safe? Will she be able to break the case? We get so many twists and turns my head was spinning. We get suspense, danger, and so much more. The author does a great job with her writing and you don’t want to put it down until you're done. If you like dark suspense thrillers this is the series for you. Each book can be read as a stand alone but I suggest reading from the beginning. 1-click and get started today.

Shadowed Deception is the 3rd book in the Shadow Defense Security series, but the first I read. It was enjoyed without background knowledge but I could sense Drake and Finlay had a bit of a past that played into their behavior and attitude toward each other. The author did a good job providing enough information so I wasn't frustrated or felt like I was missing anything.
The book has a good balance, being mostly mystery and investigative work, and a handful of romance scenes. I felt like there was quite a bit of a hanging to the ending. While it wrapped up the feelings between Drake and Finlay, the whole case they are investigating is still open and wasn't all resolved. I hope it continues in another book, because if this is how the author planned to end things, I'm not thrilled.

This book was a really fun exhilarating read for me. I did not have a chance to read books one and two, however, this book did not cause me to read the other books to understand the storyline. Learning about Finlay and her role in this story as an investigator, while she worked with law enforcement was eye opening. The setting in Paris of human trafficking felt so real as the author depicts each scene, filling me with suspense for the next moment. One of the best things about a mystery is the amount of suspense in each moment or scene. This book had me on the edge of my toes and quickly sparked a vivid imagination for every scene in this book. I really enjoyed reading it and I enjoy the authors writing style.

This book is an action packed story that is full of suspense from start to finish. It is an exciting book to read that is fast paced and interesting the whole way through. The book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. However, I would definitely recommend reading them all because they are all great reads.
The characters in the book have a great chemistry. I loved watching their relationship develop as they tried to uncover a mystery. The author has written the book with pace and knows how to keep your attention the whole way through. This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Shadowed Deception: A Psychological Suspense Thriller (Shadow Defense Security Book 3)

I went on quite the adventure while reading this book. So much happens with Finley and Drake.

Finley is a bad girl but in the best way. She will do what ever is necessary to help those that she cares about which is how she ended up in Paris and the mess she found herself in.

Drake is sent to get Finley home safe and sound, he has no clue how messed up of a situation she is in the middle of.

The twist at the end was so good it made me gasp out loud and may have startled my husband.

I really hope Seb is next and I know the perfect woman for him.

First off, this is my first time reading this author. She is very talented. Her world-building is amazing. Her character development is amazing.
This is the 3rd book in a series. It can be read as a standalone, but I feel like I may have gleaned a bit more information about the characters, having read the previous 2 books.
With that being said, this book was still easy enough to read as a stand alone. I enjoyed the suspense, and the stolen glances between the seriousness. I could see this play out like a made for TV movie in my head... It was awesome. I can't wait to read the previous 2 books. Highly recommend.

Finlay is in Paris to help recover her friend’s sister who has been taken by a human trafficking ring. She’s undercover in the club that is a cover for the ring. She wants to bring the people in charge to justice but she’s hit a wall and needs help. Drake Reeves is a former SEAL and part of Shadow Defense Security. He has no need for reporters because of an incident in the past but has committed to help Finlay and keep her out of trouble. An exciting story with twists and turns and the requisite happy ending

I don’t think I have EVER been this impressed by a new author before. This book was so good I WILL read it again. Beating in mind I have OVER 2000 books in my TBR pile, that’s some recommendation.
This story has everything you could possibly want in an adventure novel; tension, intrigue , intimacy, risqué moments.
I was in love with Finlay.
I don’t like to do spoilers but , sincerely, I read a LOT of books and this is at the very top.
If you don’t read anything else, read this.
I was most pleasantly surprised at how good it was. As I say I WILL read it again.
200% recommended.

Once you've read this book you'll want to book a flight to Paris to join the action!

Darker than her previous two books, Ellscott spins an action-flick romance between Shadow Defense Drake and his nemesis, investigative journalist Finlay on a mystery thriller to stop a trafficking ring. The stakes continue to climb, even as we meet new characters and unlikely allies!

If you're looking for suspense that will keep you guessing and pulls you into the danger, check out Ellscott's third book, "Shadowed Deception" today!

Shadowed Deception: A Psychological Suspense Thriller (Shadow Defense Security Book 3) by Mavery Ellscott- 5 out of 5 stars

This series has been amazing and I am hopeful the author will continue with more books in the future. Entertaining, realistic, sexy, and twisted with darkness, these books keep me wanting more. I do have to say that this particular book is a bit darker than the first two and twice as hard to put down once you start reading it. I highly recommend reading this whole series. I highly recommend reading this book.

Shadowed Deception is the third book in the Shadow Defense Security Series. In this story, Finlay Giammarino is an investigative journalist tracking a human trafficking ring hoping to find a lead on her sister. When she comes to a dead end she turns to former Navy Seal Drake Reeves. Drake doesn’t like journalists but Finlay is desperate. By now the trademark adventure and intensity should be expected. Again, the chemistry is fun and palpable. This is a stand-alone book but you do get past characters that pop up and they are fun to see. Another page-turner.

Shadowed Deception being book three in the Shadow Defense Security Series we get to read about more of the guys at this agency finding their one and only. The series continues to keep me on the edge of my seat. Shadowed deception had this series typical drama, action, angst, enemies that become lovers that is par for the course in these books. There is Drake and Finlay, an investigative journalist who is undercover, in very deep into a sex trafficking ring. The character development was very strong and I enjoyed how the novel unfolded. Another great addition to the series.

From the very first page, the author has you engaged in the story and you need to know what’s happening next. I like how each chapter has the point of view for the main characters, Finlay and Drake. The author has done a great job in creating the context for this particular topic, especially the ins and outs of this type of business. As you read, you get an actual feel for the environment, and the emotions the women and young ladies are feeling.

Finlay is a newspaper reporter who is going undercover to help put an end to a trafficking ring. Finlay is in danger at every turn. She has to rely on help to try to rescue these women and may find love while doing so. This book is a page turner. I kept holding my breath hoping that everything would turn out okay.
