Death of the Ideal

Rate this book
Free from his shattered cage, Avo goes from prey to predator as he continues to nurse his growing apotheosis.

With the Crucible overcome and the Syndicate defied, Avo turns from evasion to infiltration in the quest for answers – and retribution. With his Necrojacking capabilities restored, he delves the depths of the Nether. Greater shadows move in the backdrop, their fingers slowly closing around him.

But no more is Avo just an instrument in another's game, a weapon to be used and spent for someone else’s dreams. The fire of godhood has been lit within him.

His hunger will not be denied.

Amazing world building and turns of phrase, really fascinating 'magic' system, and basically everything but the characters and what they do is really, really interesting. Ended up dropping after a multi chapter fight scene that was really just a spar.

5 out of 5. Nothing else needs to be said.

This is perfection. *chef's kiss*

Fair warning, do NOT read this story if you are not comfortable with:

- gore. And I mean LOTS of gore. We have all the gore.

- cannibalism (is it still cannibalism if the MC is non-human?)

- the occasional massacre

- general apathy towards other living beings

- high-tech-y language and terms. (I mean it's a sci-fi story so...)

- child murder (not explicit, but it's there)

- psychopathic MC

- suicidal intentions

- And murder. All the murder.

And a lot more besides. This story is basically a walking trigger warning. So. Consider yourself warned.

Enjoy (and try not to contract the rash).

This series would do well to get some basic descriptions of what things actually look like. The series talks about heavens, ghosts, infiltrating minds, etc etc etc. Unfortunately, absolutely nothing is described in a way that would let someone visualize what is actually happening/occurring.

The characters interesting and I feel like I was interested in the story... But like, it was still an exceedingly difficult read due to the inability to actually visualize most of the stuff going on... Maybe its me 🤷

Either way, I think I am probably done with the series. Which kindof sucks since I feel like I should have liked this.

A stunning follow-up to an already excellent first volume. This series gives me everything I want from dystopian cyber/biopunk. The characters are compelling and unique, the setting and world-building is diabolical and delicious, the vernacular is intriguing and mysterious. This series deserves recognition beyond science-fiction, beyond progression fantasy.

Ghoul

Cyber magic setting that records in neon detail the madness spawned in tribalistic hominids promised apotheosis and the utterly pointless slaughter that immediately and continuously results

Things get more interesting in book 2 but unfortunately for me the complexity of [everything] got out of hand and just kinda climbed on up the book's own dark place and snuggled in there and I got _bored_.

Amazing

A unique and fantastic book to read. Can’t wait for the next instalment to arrive and I’m sure it will be just as good as this.

Love how unique this is. Second book builds from the first. Stoked for the third!

Well done.
