First appearance of Hank Littleton and Buffalo Newcomb.
He was a boy when the first shots were fired. By the time he reached the border, he would be a man... On a hot West Texas night Hank Littleton was riding hard - riding towards the Mexican border, caught up in a swirl of violence and deceit he did not yet fully understand. It had begun with two men claiming to be Confederate Army agents who murdered Hank's grandfather in cold blood, and then started south with a load of hijacked gold and a rag-tag gang. All Hank had to rely on was his rage at the old man's murder, and his skill with a Henry rifle - his only legacy from the Texas Ranger father who'd all but abandoned him. And all Hank had to do was keep riding. For in the next few days he would find the men he was looking for, find out a thing or two about vengeance and those who seek it, and meet a Texas Ranger on a lonely, violent hunt on his own...
Have not read a western for quite a while and enjoyed this one, and brought back memories of borrowing books from my dad when I was a teen because I ran out of books on my shelf. 15 yr. old Hank and his grandpa, the Sherri in town ride out to deliver a coffin with a false bottom to 3 men and 2 women, Hank little knew his life would change would forever. The coffin was to be used to hide stolen confederate gold. After delivered the men could not let Hank and grandpa stay alive so they killed them But Hank was just badly shot in the head and side. He managed to crawl back to town and after several days he felt the doc had patched him up enough so he go take of to go and catch the ones who killed grandpa. It was not easy but he did manage eventually to find them. In the mean time his father is a Texas ranger looking for these same men for stealing the confederate gold They find the men at about the same time and justice is served
