Pamela Warren, a young sports reporter for a Canadian newspaper, is assigned to interview a controversial hockey player, and finds herself both drawn and intimidated by him
Judy Baer was born and grew up on a farm on the prairies of North Dakota, USA. An only child, she spent most of her days with imaginary people-either those she read about or those she made up in her head. Her most ambitious conjuring did not succeed, however. She kept a clean stall with hay and oats for the horse she imagined would come but unfortunately, it never did. As an adult, however, she managed to make that dream come true and raised foundation quarter horses and buffalo for some years. A voracious reader, Judy learned to read with comic books, anything from Little Lulu and Superman to the Rawhide Kid. She sold her first story for $10.00 to a farm magazine. She still has the $10.00.
She graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota with a major in English and education and a minor in religion. At the time, she was simply studying what interested her, but now realizes that she was educating herself for her future career as an inspirational christian romance writer.
Judy wanted to write for Harlequin even in high school but it wasn't until her youngest child learned to say "No" that she realized that she'd better consider a second career to fall back on when mothering was done. Her first book was written with her little girl on her lap. Judy would type a few words, say "Now, Jennifer," at which time her daughter would hit the space bar before Judy continued typing. It wasn't the fastest way to work, but it offered a lot of mother-daughter time together. An over-achiever, she's written 71 books for various publishers. The mother of two and step-mother of three, she now has lots of family to enjoy.
In 2001, she went back to school and became a certified professional life coach. Currently she is working on her Master's in Human Development in the areas of writing, coaching and spirituality and writing inspirational Chick Lit which, she says, is the most fun she's ever had writing.
Pamela is 23 and is travelling down to Winnipeg from Arizona for a job opportunity within the newspaper company she works for. There, she is thrown into the world of NHL hockey to cover the local team’s biggest, yet most elusive star, Tiger Evans. Pam and Tiger hit it off and become really close really fast.
The biggest issue I have with this book is that it feels like Pam is just another woman for him to conquer sexually and is enticed by the chase since Pamela is a Christian. In addition, the way he treats her is a bit domineering and borderline possessive. (He calls her Miss Priss & Prudish Pamelas ALL THE TIME and it is never addressed how disrespectful that is)
Also the ending wraps up way too neat and tidy with giant unrealistic bow….
This was my favorite book as a tween and teen. I probably rented it from the library over 10 times. I continued to read it every few years throughout my 20s and 30s. This book is a young adult christian romance. For the most part, it has aged well. However, there are some practices and gender roles which I no longer exactly agree with, but that has still not sullied my love of this book over the years. My heart holds a soft spot for Pam and Ty's love story.
I've discovered that I like this lady's books. First I read Paige, which I enjoyed immensely, then this one, which was also a satisfying read. I really enjoyed Pam's sweet confidence and courage. She wasn't willing to compromise her faith for Ty. And I knew Ty would change. He was just too genuinely kind not to. Cute, short love story. I recommend to teens and young adults.
I enjoy a good hockey romance, and I have had this one on my shelf for a while, so I decided to read it this week. Overall, I liked it. Pam and Ty were interesting characters, and their romance was very sweet.
This was a wonderful book, with a moving plot and characters. I loved Pamela and Tiger, both really interesting and really likeable, the companionship and love that develops between them was touching. I also found it very organic and natural, I felt like I was reading the story of 2 people rather than 2 characters. The Christian aspect was also done just right, with just enough but that those who don't want it will not feel preached to. This really is a beautiful love story of two people who appear to be very different but are inexplicable drawn to each other, but before they can fully allow what's happening between them, he needs to overcome the shadows of his past, she needs to accept that the man she loves is not of her faith or will that change? a mature and moving story and I loved it. As most of the time, for me personally, while the ending was sweet, I wouldn't have said no to another few pages, books always end too fast!
Also the innuendos in this sweet PG book were a millions times more stirring and melt inducing than like all the weird/gross scenes I have seen from "erotic" books I see many women reading today which I find funny, even the scene were they first met in the locker room like damn 🫠 it of course helped that Tiger was smooth af lol.
I absolutely love this book. I've read it numerous times over the years . I'm not sure I have a bad thing to say about it except it wasn't long enough. I think the story line could have held up under a longer book. Would have LOVED a sequel!!!!!
I read this book back when I was in middle grade, and it was always one of my favourites. 21 years later and I still enjoyed it. Very quick read for me.
This was such a cute book. The story moved quickly and kept me engaged. Just a sweet story and clearly showed the importance of forgiveness and not being sorry for your beliefs.
