Haunted by nightmares of losing everything dear to her, Special Agent Terri McKinnon takes on a new case that just might prove to be more than she ever bargained for. With the help of her FBI partner, Agent Bobby Kraft, and Dr. Jen Rosenberg, Terri finds herself facing a dangerous new foe that could shake her foundation to the core. The sequel to On Dangerous Ground.
D.L. Line has been many things at different times in her life: a musician, a pharmacy technician, a bartender, a student, a restaurant owner, a marching band director, and a dog sitter to name a few. Through it all, she has always been a storyteller. D.L. lives in Virginia with her family, including Snickers the Wonderdog. On Dangerous Ground is her first novel.
This is an amazing sequel to 'On Dangerous Ground'. The FBI agent and the professor are now living together in Washington, D.C. and the heat and complexity of their love has evolved and expanded adding nuances and bold new levels wonderfully offsetting the tense and dangerous FBI action. Similarly, the FBI partners continue to be above and beyond supportive to each other, while they initially struggle with a stalled situation keeping the pair office bound. The professor, on the other hand, has very neatly adjusted to her new American University position with an assistant who is a former student. Delightfully, the professor has grown, adapted, and wondrously acclimated to being an FBI agent's main squeeze in addition to all her university duties. Oh my goodness, there is a flat-out stunning plot twist after the FBI team are back in the field that rocketed the action into a super tense, highly dangerous modality. I was knocked flat on my keister, but a 110 percent involved and entirely immersed. This is a stunning book that I completely recommend!
Agent Terri McKinnon, at the start of the book, has been temporarily grounded following the consequences of her actions that resulted in saving her girlfriend's life but definitely not following standard FBI protocol. She is being treated by an in-house doctor and failing somewhat miserably to get herself cleared for active duty. Her partner and long time friend Bobby is sticking with her as she tries to get herself cleared for action. Terri is finally approved for active duty, but through the use of a bit of subterfuge. I suspect that is not how a dutiful FBI agent should have managed this and Terri needs to be a bit more honest with herself. Her trials and tribulations are amazingly interesting and generate a powerful and pervasive aura that additionally elevate this story to a fascinating level!
Dr. Jen Rosenberg, a computer science assistant professor, is simply Jen to her friends and lover. She has a marvelously quirky nature while quietly becoming a bedrock who more than once brings Terri back on track. She also attempts to share her wisdom, in part learned from a brush with some shady computer activities in her early college days, with her youthful and talented assistant. Primarily, Jen is unquestionably the anchor and shining beacon that brings Terri through some harrowing experiences. She is also why Terri definitely sees the world differently.
The astounding counterpoint balancing FBI intensity, sexual zest, and dramatic twists of fate raised the bar making this a fabulous sequel. It can be read alone, but I do suggest reading 'On Dangerous Ground' first so you have all the delicious background data at your fingertips. Astonishing!
