Resort to Love #1

The Supermodel's Best Friend

Rate this book
Librarian Note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN B005S1XTEA.

Lucy Hathcoat's best friend the supermodel is getting married to a billionaire—what better place than their week-long wedding in a luxury eco-resort to find a new man? Lucy isn’t picky; she just wants a decent guy who’s eager to start a family. Someone as logical, responsible, and practical as she is.

Definitely not the six-foot-five, fun-loving Miles Girard. Being totally hot and charming is not important. She doesn’t need a college dropout who makes her laugh. A man who makes her jump in his lap and kiss him. A man who is pathologically wary of marriage and thinks she needs him more than she needs a husband.

Then again, Lucy’s starting to feel like maybe, just maybe, she can’t live without him…

I enjoyed This Time Next Door and was looking forward to this book, but, unfortunately, it wasn't a favorite.

It starts off interesting enough with Lucy just being dumped by her fiancé--via Smartphone technology. And Miles was just dumped by his b#tchy girlfriend for being unable to commit. The two get thrown together at posh wedding of a supermodel and a billionaire.

The new twist here is: In an effort to salvage her drying eggs, Rose's friends will pick the man she will marry. The thing was I didn't think Miles and Rose clicked in any way. First of all, I agreed with everyone else: how can a big guy like him get it on with a short shrimp? He's over 6 ft. and she's a mere 5 ft. I think that's totally ridiculous. Second: Lucy is too much of a planner, which is annoying, and he's way more laid back. It was a complete MISMATCH. I think Rose was better suited for Alex, but, of course, the story wouldn't take that course.

The whole wedding is a forum for speculation, stereotypes, resentment, drama, and crude jokes. It was hard to believe that these people could be connected to each other. How can you have a billionaire friend? For me, it would be damn near impossible to be friends with a billionaire or a supermodel.

Overall, this was a shallow, tepid story with unrealistic characters. It seemed amusing at first, dazzling me with that smart humor I enjoyed in the previous novel, but then it quickly tapered off into a dull and unbearable territory.

This was a nice story - 3.5 stars. At first I was having a difficult time with it because it I was having trouble connecting with Lucy and her friends but I am glad I stuck with it because she redeemed herself and I ended up liking her (and it helped that her friends weren't such a huge part of the story).
Lucy is consumed with having a plan for everything. A plan that includes being married ASAP and having kids before she's 30. After her fiancé who she has been with for 8 years leaves her for someone else all her plans came to and end and now Lucy is on the hunt looking for a man to marry to set her plans in motion. She doesn't care if there is love involved either.
Miles is a big burly man who has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to his dad and has commitment issues. He seems to have a sense of humor and is a fun man. He's good looking too.
Since Lucy is on a bad luck streak with her men and seems to be picky she enlists her friends to set her up with the man she will marry. So they do and choose a man who just happens to be friends with the groom of her best friend whose wedding they are attending this week for a week long extravaganza. Alex, the man the chose, is nice enough, good looking enough and has the right "whatever" enough to be a good husband but he's just not right for Lucy. They don't have many things in common and she's not feeling it. However she doesn't feel that way about a certain best man to her maid of honor. Lucy and Miles have this interesting sexual awareness going on and after trying hard to ignore it Lucy gives in to her desires and shares a few intimate kisses and later on finally sleeps with Miles. Throughout the week they spend lots of time together and develop feelings for each other that neither want to admit to themselves. However after their friends wedding they can't hold back anymore and profess their love for each other.
Overall I enjoyed the story. It had its weak moments and strings ones and I'm glad I ended up sticking with it.

Gretchen has her talons in me now! I bought this right after reading This Time Next Door because I fell in love with her writing. That love held true through The Supermodel's Best Friend, and I was actually a little annoyed it took me longer to read because of outside forces. Dang you, real-life!

I will be truthful and tell you I was not sold on Lucy from the beginning. Having just read Rose, who is almost complete opposite of Lucy. I warmed up to her though, the further we got into the book the more the ice queen facade faded and we got down to the real Lucy. She was hung up on creating this fantasy life she hadn't had growing up she lost sight of herself. Like Rose though, she was funny and sweet.

Miles had me from GO! I may be a sucker for tall and goofy. And kind. And sexy. And persistent. A big cuddly beast that was on a completely different life path than Lucy; working with children but having no compunction to have any of his own and marriage was the last thing he was ready to jump into. I thought it was pretty interesting that for a man so against marriage he often had the best advice for his friend Huntley when it came to smoothing things over with his fiance. He was dedicated to showing Lucy that he was just what she needed all she had to do was look at him as something more than a husband prospect.

There were many times I wanted to shake Lucy myself and show what a good thing she had going. Lol.

Again, Gretchen is a master at creating balance in her books and characters, making it easy for us readers to be sucked in and carried away. Bravo!
OK, now I am going to buy more of her books because I am not ready to let her go just yet :)

Read this, you'll enjoy it!

Lucy Hathcoat has recently been dumped by her fiancee. She can't believe she wasted all those years with him. To makes matter worse her best friend is getting married to a billionaire. Her best friend is a famous supermodel. After after thinking about it, she decides that maybe a change in venue will help her meet a new guy she can start a family with.
Miles Girard's best friend is getting married. He recently became single and is happy for his freedom. he is happy with his job and is not looking for anything serious, why then is he having this encounters with Lucy, the woman wants a commitment and he is not interested in one. Or is he?
The book has some funny parts. I had a problem with Lucy trying to find a man to marry. It felt a little desperate.

I am most definitely not the right audience for this book. I'm not sure when I purchased it - it might have been free - but I'm starting to think the only reason I did is because I've enjoyed Gretchen's stories in the past. This one, though? It's not for me. Differing thoughts on society's excessive emphasis on marriage aside, the main characters are not even remotely likable at the start. I didn't see the point in continuing when there are so many other books out there that ARE my speed.

I'd think long and hard about this one before diving in.

The Supermodel's Best Friend ( Resort to Live 1)

I couldn't have been more bored in my life. The book barely discussed the woman being a Supermodel in this story. It talked about more of a wedding.

Too many things just don't add up. 6'5" man having sex in a crowded room on the floor, under the table holding the wedding cake?! No.

I have to say this is the second book I've read about a redhead named Lucy and I just want to make it known that you can have characters in a book named Lucy and not be a redhead. Moving on.

Lucy is super practical, mid 30s and recently dumped by a guy she just found out her friends didn't like. So she asks her friends to set her up with someone they approve of...which just happens to fall into the timeline of her BFF's week long wedding to someone she only knew for 6 months. Miles has a bad example of marriage due to his dad's infidelity and constant divorces, so when he's dumped before his BFF's wedding, he's convinced marriage isn't for him.

Honestly I'm surprised with how this book went only because we are introduced to the friends and a bunch of characters...who end up not being a part of the future series and get paired off in this book. I just kinda assumed that this was the intro for these friends and that they'd be the ones featured in the other books but they weren't which is fine cause honestly I only liked Lucy and Miles - even their BFFs Huntley and Fawn were underwhelming. Huntley especially didn't seem like he deserved Fawn's love/forgiveness or Mile's friendship.

Anyways, book was fine, kinda really seemed to move fast emotionally especially with the personalities these people were supposed to have but it was fine. 3 stars.

I don’t know what I liked the best about this book: the drama and angst or the quirky irreverent humor? Lucy and Miles could be the poster children for that old saying about how porcupines mate. Their natural instincts are to bristle and resist anyone getting too close even though they kind of desperately want the connection. This story has lots of messy family interactions. And while most of them raised my blood pressure, the sheer audacity of some of them had me laughing in astonishment. I loved where this book was able to get our leading couple, but I’m nowhere close to being ready to let go of them yet.

Definition of a guilty pleasure

Reading this trashy romance novel takes me back to my early teen years when I couldn’t find enough a Harlequin romances or Gothic Romances. Nothing very redeeming about it, but it’s fun and sometimes you just need to sit back and enjoy the formula. It’s a fine book for its type and I might even be tempted to read the next in series - probably not too soon because it’s nearly November and that’s write my own novel time.

Life isn't supposed to be easy. That is why we try to plan everything, we are trying to make it simple. But a plan always has it's flaws, no plan will go on without a skipped part or unexpected results. We should live in the moment, think about the future but not letting go of what we have right now. Life is too short to regret and plan everything we do, we should just go with the wind.

Read on Kindle Unlimited

When you finish a book with a smile on your face (even though you begged for at least an extra ten chapters) you know that the story was a good one.
Absolutely loved the characters and their journey!

Contrived. Lucy is unlikable. There was no friendship that grew between the two, they were just super horny for each other.

2.5☆ It was fine. Instalove is not my favorite trope. It jumped around a lot and many things felt unfinished/not fleshed out.

this was good.

Not too sure about the ending, but I guess there are more books. It was well written, and very easy to follow.

Repetitive

Lots of sex scenes. I felt it was very repetitive. Not crazy about the ending. Would prefer a sharper ending. Also needs a little better editing.

Good but no ending

Well written but I'll just give it a Good review because there is no ending, really not in to a book that ends abruptly.

slow paced, too much detail, and a lot of characters to keep track of - it was fine but not an author I would be eager to read again
