What Ya Girl Won't Do

Rate this book
Kylee Hampton is no poor little rich girl. She's living the life—nicely furnished condo, decent ride, designer clothes, and a purse and shoe game to kill for—and she knows it. Mommy and Daddy foot the bills for their only child. In their eyes, she deserves it. Kylee's never given them problems. She graduated high school and is ready to start her freshman year of college.
If her parents took time to look into her closet, they'd do the math and realize that not even the allowance they provide Kylee could afford her all the luxuries she has. Of course, Kylee would never allow them in her closet because she knows that beneath the red bottom shoes and Louis Vuitton bags, skeletons would be discovered.
Kylee's secrets are safe with her girl Ja'Nay, a loyal friend who has tried to be the voice of reason when it comes to Kylee's lifestyle. Ja'Nay hasn't been able to get Kylee to see the ugliness of her ways, but she still prays that her friend will come to her senses. The last thing Ja'Nay wants is for Kylee to reap what she sows.

Brandi Johnson the first time author who rose up on the scene by accident. Brandi picked up on her love for writing at a young age, but never in a million years dreamed that any of her work would ever get published. With an imagination so strong and vivid as hers, she decided to put it to the test. She became serious about her passion for writing and that's when her first novel "Spoiled Rotten" was born.

Brandi had almost given up on her dream but her heart and God wouldn't let her. She was introduced to her Editor/Agent Joylynn Jossel, to whom she is grateful to have in her corner. God took her by one hand and Joylynn Jossel by the other hand and they walked Brandi down a road that ended with a book deal.

Brandi has since written the novel "In My Girls I Trust" and a short story named "Hayden's Song" that can be found in the collaboration "Even Sinners Still Have Souls."

Brandi resides in Mansfield, Ohio where she is the busy mother of three boys and is currently working on another novel.

First off, let me say Brandi Johnson's writing just keeps getting better and better. Now on to my review. I loved this book because Kylee, Ireon, and Janay were a mess. Let me just put it out there Kylee was a hoe, a well paid ho, but a ho nonetheless. And mommy and daddy had their own issues so they could not see what their baby girl were up to. The relationship between Eli and kylee was sweet but ain't no way she shoulda been with that married man, but she was who she was. Eli should have waited until he divorce was done and over before getting with her. I don't condone violence, but Tionna and sylvia should have beat kylee down. ain't no way you messing with my husband and getting away with it.

I don't want to give too much away, but janay was just wrong and ain't no forgiving that. Tony was wrong to and messed up in the head too to keep doing what he was doing knowing that situation. But it was karma for all involved. I can't wait for the next book from Miss Johnson.

Well Done!

I meet the author of this book and I already knew that it would be a good read. It made me really think about things and that's what I love; for a book to make me consider. There is truly a good lesson in this story, very good!

I really wanted to like this book. But honestly, no.
Almost every character is unlikeable. No one seems to learn or grow from their experiences. I guess I came into this story thinking the main character who is conceited, egotistical, selfish, and cares only about money, would learn and grow throughout this story, and learn to become truly independent, self-sustaining, humble and compassionate. Or at least she would learn the value of earning a dollar through gaining an actual work ethic.
This did not happen.

Her eventual main squeeze is a not an abuser, thankfully, but he's a homophobic turd.
Knowing that one of her closest friends is a lesbian, this doesn't seem to deter her interest in this guy.
Which, if she was really a good friend, it would. I dunno, maybe that's just me.

Anyways, no one seems to learn and grow from anything that transpires.

And the ending just bothers me so much.

It was that TWIST though that grabbed a hold of my attention. Better than I first thought that it would be when I first borrowed it from the local library. I may have to give the audible a listen to fully understand the gist of the storyline to hear it from each characters' POV though.
I need a sequel to POWDER BLU though. A LOT LEFT UNRESOLVED FROM POWDER BLU'S STORY, MS. JOHNSON!

Enjoyed this book. Spoiled, rich girl using old men to get what she wants and maintain her lifestyle outside what her parents do which is quite a lot. Her best friend JaNay tried to tell her she was wrong and that karma would come knocking and it did in the worst way. I won't give away the "juicy and heartbreaking" woes of the book. Let's just say you will be shocked!
