Talk This Way

Rate this book
In her sexy new series, bestselling author Dakota Cassidy introduces the Call Girls, a spirited group of friends ready to take on lust, love and everything in between…. Find out where it all began in this delicious novella!

If life is like a box of chocolates, Cat Butler has tasted them all–and decided on none. It's no wonder she can't keep a job, even though her mother's health depends on it. Just when she finds herself up a creek without a paddle–again–a benevolent friend throws her a lifeline. In the form of a job at, of all places, a phone sex hotline. Not exactly what she had in mind, but if it pays the bills for her mom's expensive nursing home, what's the harm?

Successful entrepreneur Flynn McGrady knows a thing or two about responsibility. So when his mother has a stroke, he knows the right thing to do is relocate to Atlanta to be near her while she recovers. He's got a plan for everything–except for feisty Cat, who finally gets his mama to talk again. Talk dirty, that is, and he's not pleased. Cat is gorgeous and sassy to boot…too bad she's not the type to settle down.

Cat and Flynn may have bigger fish to fry, but the sparks between them are hotter than hell. And when they finally give in to temptation, the results are explosive. Can a girl who follows her heart and a guy who follows his head find their way to forever?

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This is a new series by Dakota Cassidy, who is best known for her Accidental books -which are amazing, btw. I've been a fan of hers for years, and was very excited to read something completely different from her paranormal stories. This new series is contemporary romance and after reading this introduction to the Call Girls I can safely say Dakota has done it again! I can tell this series is going to be special. She writes characters that you instantly become invested in. Not one character is the same which adds to the magic of her writing - it's one of the reasons I love her books.

Be warned, if you decide to read this book (and you definitely should) make sure you have tissues ready; you will cry - hell, you'll sob. Talk This Way will make you feel: you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel love, and not just the romantic kind. Your heart may even get a little bigger after reading it; I know mine was very full of good emotions and felt bigger. I'm looking forward to continuing this series and this bunch of girls we've barely just gotten acquainted with.

I received this ARC in return for an honest review.

Cat and Flynn jump right off the first page with witty banter. Their dialogue is natural, and creates a fun and funny chemistry right away. Cat's sassy mouth seems to rub off on Flynn very quickly, and their conversations often made me laugh out loud. Their character voices are strong and consistent. Even though they are archetypes, they have warmth and depth to them.

As always, Dakota Cassidy's satellite characters are just as well written. I really think this is one of the main reasons this story works so well. Without her knack for creating a full cast of characters, this could easily be just another book on the contemporary romance shelf.

There's quite a bit of humor and some very unexpected character development for Flynn. (I love the things he does to try to connect more deeply with his mother!) The story is a bit rushed, due to the short length, but not to the point of stretching past the point of credulity. It's more as though the story had to be limited in length. The author does a very good job of giving a plot with some depth in such few pages. But like a photo that's been cropped and stretched, it loses some of its sharpness. I found this to be especially true toward the end.

This issue is balanced out quite well with a lovely sub-plot that really fills out the story, despite the short length. It's poignant, sweet, and evokes emotion that reflects onto the main plot and characters in a way that amplifies Cat's inner struggle above the tropes of the romance novel heroine.

I look forward to the series of books to follow. If she could write such a great story in such a short format, the full-length books are going to be a real treat!

I was given an early copy of this novella for an honest review. This is a novella that will start a series by this author. It is one of the cutest, funniest, most interesting storylines I have read in quite a while, and that's saying something!
This novella is about Cat, a woman who has been working any and every job she can find in order to keep her mother in Oakdale, an exclusive assisted living facility connected to a hospital and cancer center. She meets a man in the coffee shop where she works and, because she is instantly attracted to him and he irritates her so much, she ends up getting fired from her last active job and doesn't know what to do. She has made a lot of friends at Oakdale because she is a very giving, caring, sweet woman who will do anything to make staff and residents happy. One of the people she has made friends with is a man named Landon who had cancer, but is in remission. Landon happens to be extremely well to do and invites her up to his place. (He owns the building.)He tells her he has a proposition for her and proceeds to offer her an extremely high salary to manage his phone sex company that he runs out of his penthouse. She accepts the job because she feels like she has no choice financially. Then she finds out that Flynn, the man who caused her to lose her last job, also lives in Landon's building. The hilarity ensues in this utterly charming story! I LOVED it and can't wait for the next one!

I received an ARC of this book and I found it to be an easy and very enjoyable read. I love the characters and Dakota brings them to life with a "true" sense of humor that allows the reader to attach themselves to the characters as though they are real people. I am a fan of the Accidental series by this same author but this is a bit different for her and I have to say she is a very talented author that can write across multiple genres. I love this book and cannot wait for the next one to be released!

Talk This Way is a pretty cute novella. It was too short for me to really connect with the characters, but it was a nice distraction. I probably won't read the rest of the books in the series, but reading it was an hour well-spent.

I've never read anything by this author, but I was very pleasantly surprised by this book! It was a shorter read, but that didn't detract from the story at all! At different spots in the book, it had me rolling in laughter or rolling in tears, it was that moving to me!

Flynn and Cat are our unlikely couple in this story, but it was the supporting characters that stood out the most for me, especially Landon and LaDawna. Flynn was too uptight and Cat too flighty for me to actually connect to them, though their antics did keep me laughing in this book. I liked that the book was a bit on the steamy side, but in a very realistic way!

All things considered, I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Cat's mom is in Oakdale nursing home, recovering from an accident that Cat feels responsible for. Cat has sold their home and is trying desperately to keep her job so she can afford to pay the bill for her mother's care. An unfortunate disagreement with another patient's son leads to the loss of her job. This leads her to ex patient, friend, and gazillionaire, Landon, who offers her a job. A crazy job, a job she can't imagine accepting, but also can't imagine turning down. Throughout this, Cat begins dating, but is deathly afraid of being hurt. Can Cat do the job? Can she get past her personal demons and find love? Read it and find out. This is a novella that reads like a full length novel. It's chock full of comedy, romance, emotion, and drama. I laughed, cried, and stomped my feet. This novella leads into a new series that I can't wait to read after having read this. Did I mention how sexy this book was? Well it is. Grab it as soon as you can.

I recently read Talk Dirty To Me and really enjoyed myself. I was curious and was told that more Landon was in the prequel so I snatched it up and finally had some time to devour the book. Only 89 pages so it was extremely easy to devour this quickly.

Even though it is a novella Dakota Cassidy packs all the punches of a novel. Although the romance is hot and quick, there is enough time to slow it down in a few places so it didn't feel like insta-love even though in all intents and purposes... it was. :) You did get more Landon than in the first book, but it still isn't enough for me. Even though he doesn't get his romantic HEA, you still wish that there was a way for him to have it... *sigh* He is still my favorite character.

I give this novella 4 1/2 stars. It feels complete and satisfying... and I warn you... keep a couple of tissues nearby. I recommend it to those that enjoy adult contemporary romance.

LOVED!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review. This novella comes out 4/1.

I'm so looking forward to the next book. What a fresh, fun concept. Cat was feisty and made me laugh, and Flynn...hawt damn!!! Landon was a fairy godfather and perfection all rolled into one. I loved his character. Again I will say GREAT concept, I devoured this in a blink of an eye.

I always worry about writing reviews for fear of spoilers. If you enjoy contemporary romance, laughter and sexy time. Put this on your TBR!!!!

Dakota Cassidy has such a way with her writing. She makes me laugh and the sexy bits....booyah!
Must read!!!

I received this ARC for an honest review.

This novella introduces Dakota Cassidy's new series. Cat's mom is in a nursing home and she is working hard to keep her mom's therapy moving forward. Flynn's mom is also in the home for her recovery. Cat and Flynn butt heads over his mother's reading material and sparks fly. Crazy job opportunities, good friends, loss and second chances ensue.

I love Ms. Cassidy's previous contemporary romance series. Her characters grab you and make you love them and their crazy circumstances. Once again she creates a world that will make you laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I gotta say, I've been looking forward to the start of this new series and this novella didn't disappoint! I think the concept of a story about the girls working for a phone sex company is unique and great! This story starts us out with who will now be the head of the company, Cat, after her friend hires and leaves it to her when he knows she needed the job most. Commitment doesn't come easy for Cat, but when paying for her mom's medical bills, she has to do something. Cat has a lot of personality, and she'll need it for this job! Great start to what should be a fun new series! was definitely a quick, easy read!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased this novella from Amazon for my Kindle.

I have long been a fan of Dakota Cassidy's work. You can always count on her to deliver an entertaining and engaging read. This novella, which is the beginning of her new series, is both poignant and funny. The sparks between Cat and Flynn fairly leap off the page. They start out in conflict and end up attracted to each other. Their antics and misunderstandings made me laugh and cry. From the quality of this novella, I can tell that this series will be a must read for me. I highly recommend this novella as top notch!

This was a super duper freebie! I really liked the characters. I laughed out, teared up, smiled, got a little aggravated, and pretty much enjoyed myself while reading this. I loved the personalities and the whole feel of this book. This was written really well and a great hook for the series, as it definitely got me wanting to read it. This is fun, sweet, a little sweaty, with great connections and some touching moments. There was a good amount of humor and plenty of sparks that definitely keeps the ball rolling and you reading for more. A great steal and good for reading anytime anywhere. Enjoy!

I received the ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review, from the Author.

Right from the first paragraph you know this is going to be a good book. To say this book is amazing is putting it too mildly. The characters are well thought out and draw you in to loving them as much as you love your favorite Aunt. This book made me laugh out loud in the middle of the night, which earned me a dirty look from the hubby, and cry when it came to the end of the book.

I will be looking forward to more works by the wonderful, funny, and talented writer.

I enjoyed Dakota Cassidy's Accidently series so I was very excited to see she was coming out with a new series. I must say I was not disappointed.

Catherine Butler is such an easy down on her luck kind of character it was fun to root for her. She never wanted to get close to anyone due to her past. Landon Wells and Flynn McGrady shows her what love is in different ways.

I really enjoyed the novella and the only thing I was disappointed to see it end. It was one of those books that you laughed and cryed with.

I received a free ARC for a honest review.

I love Dakota Cassidy. Her books never fail to make me smile, laugh and sometimes cry. And they always, always touch me. I like to think of her as a comfort read. And with the start of this new series.... well that just cements what I've just said.

Talk This Way, has the SNARK from her Accidentally Paranormal Series and the HEART from The Ex Trophy Wives...making it a PERFECT book!

Filled with her trademark humor and larger than life characters, Talk This Way is well worth the read and a promising start to this new series.

Imagine my surprise and delight to find this novella at the end of book 3 Talking After Midnight courtesy of my digital copy from Netgalley.

I finally got to go back in time to Call Girls beginnings before the move to Plum Orchard and best of all got to see first hand how Landon Wells touched so many lives in so many ways prior to his death. Cat and Flynn's romance was just icing on the cake as a bonus!

I received this ARC in return for an honest review.

Flynn and Cat come from two different places in life, but they find each other through their mothers, who both live in a nursing home. Cat is spunky and humorous. Flynn is solid and falls hard for her. Landon is their saving grace. Through laughter and tears we are introduced to the Call center and a very good story. I can't wait for the next one!

I was given this ARC for a honest review. I enjoyed this book so much! I loved Cat and her witty, sassy attitude and Flynn with his shy, backwards ways that she tries to break through. I love the banter between them and her relationship with her friends and family is so heartfelt! It was sad in ways, but the happiness that can come from even pain makes it all the greater and the more it can bring everyone together. I would definitely recommend!

I didn't really enjoy this novella. The romantic storyline between Cat and Flynn was only so-so when it came to the romance, but without giving anything away, at a certain point in the story, I just found the plot involving another character really depressing. I read these types of books to escape reality. That particular plot line was too much reality for me. But other than that, the story was ok.

I enjoyed this book although I felt it was rushed. It was only around 100 pages and felt like it was very rushed at the end. I was ready to read another 200 pages by this author! I thought the author did a great job developing the characters. They were very relatable and people you would like to meet and be friends with in real life. This book made me giggle and made me cry. Also made me angry when it rushed at the end! I will look for more books by this author.
