As a young girl, Diana Marie Dubois was an avid reader and was often found in the local public library. Now you find her working in her local library. Hailing from the culture filled state of Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans; she lives with her three Great Danes and four spunky mutts. Her biggest inspiration has always been the infamous Anne Rice and her tales of Vampires. It was those very stories that inspired Diana to take hold of her dreams and begin writing. She is now working on her first series, Voodoo Vows.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. There may still be changes to the book to make it much better so my review very well may change for the better :)

3.5-4 Likable Stars

This story had a mixture of magic, mystery, voodoo intrigue, and a little bit of sex mixed in for good measure. The book is set in New Orleans so it is bound to have some voodoo mystery mixed in to make it a decent read. It was an enjoyable read with a cliffhanger.

We meet Rosie at the beginning of the book on the night of her mother's disappearance. She wakes up the next morning after a bad dream only to find her mother missing. The story then fast forwards 6 months I believe and she is coming back to town having left after her mother's disappearance. I almost feel like there was a little piece of the story missing, she was gone for 6 months only to come right back home and things start back up almost as if nothing happened. She didn't call anyone to tell them where she was or to let them know she was okay (I know if I was the best friend I might be a little more hurt :) ). Anyways as the story progresses Rosie learns things about herself as she tries to learn things about her mother as well. As the story unfolds magical things began happening around her. She now has to be leery of everyone around her.

Julian is Rosie's long time boyfriend that has hidden family history. I am not sure whether or not he knows the family history behind things, but after Rosie's return things in his life start to change as well. He is still head of heels for Rosie, but due to circumstances out of his control he must make a tough decision.

The side characters in the story are her best friend Jahane, Jahane's boyfriend Derrick, Remi, Athena the Guardian Great Dane, and several others.

All in all it was decent read. It is a departure from what I usually read, but it was good, well worth a read.

Hot as a New Orleans night…
Rosaleigh Delacroix’s New Orleans is filled with the smells, sounds, and tastes of the singular city and plenty of voodoo (of course), scary dreams, and sexy sex. Rosie’s Cajun lover Julian is too, too desirable. And Jehane and her other friends are wild and lots of fun.
But all is not good times as Rosie struggles with the mystery of her missing mother, opening her bookshop, what’s bothering Julian, and her future as a powerful witch. Add a Great Dane puppy every dog-lover will want to snatch and you have a recipe for a yummy series.
Ms. DuBois has written a love letter to her favorite town, packed into a entrancing beginning that weaves powerful themes in a sensual setting. Loved the lively local dialogue.
Yes, the ending is a cliff hanger ‘cause, seriously, there’s just too much story for one book.
Northerners will be thankful for the glossary.
I personally can’t wait for to the accompanying series featuring the Great Dane Guardians.

Rosie lives a normal life until the day she finds her mother has disappeared. After a few months she finds herself back home, in New Orleans, In the small apartment over her mother's shop and reminiscing about her childhood with her best friend and recalling feelings and memories of Julian. Rosie's unsure of how Julian will react to her coming home. Her mother has always claimed to come from a long line of witches but she never really believed her until she learns the truth about herself and things start to become very interesting in her life. True to the New Orleans style there's tons of food and some jazz and all the familiar things you would experience in the amazing state. Mystery and romance collide and take you on a journey through Rosie's life and new experiences. The pace is slow and relaxing and makes for an enjoyable read. The author is very descriptive and you can see what the characters are seeing,

Voodoo Vows

I don't usually like books written in the first person, but this book is unique. It is extreemly well written with characters that are brought to life with a cunning hand.

It's the story of a young witch, Rosie, who dreams and then witnesses her mother's death. She leaves New Orleans for a time, but returns to try to find the truth about what happend.

She is reunited with her bestie (best friend), and the love of her life.

There is an evil in New Orleans, and Rose must learn what her powers are and how to use them. There are several people who want to help, a dog, a friend of her mother's, and even the spirit of a great voodoo priestess.

I know you'll love this book. I know I did

Wow! New author? First book? No way!

Diana Marie DuBois captures your imagination so thoroughly you are Rosaleigh Delacroix. The setting, character relationships, scene descriptions, dialogue, background construction, story development and pacing...none of them reveal this book as a debut novel. As you read, you find yourself ignoring the clock and rushing to get to the end, cursing yourself when you get there, and looking for ways to stalk the author until the next publication date.

Can you resist the lure?

For a new author, Diana Marie DuBois has done a great job with this story. Has all the mystique of New Orleans, it's legends, sumptuous food and description of Mardi Gras! It's about Rosie (Rosaleigh Delacroix) who left New Orleans after the disappearance of her mother. Six months later she returns home and learns a lot about herself and mother. The author has done a great job with meshing the different characters, story has some surprises and twists and turns. Was a little slow at the beginning but then the author gets into the story and it flows so well. I really enjoyed this book and eagerly awaiting the next one.

This book was a gift from a friend!

I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review. Rosie leaves New Orleans without saying goodbye when her mother disappears. Now she's back, reuniting with old friends and discovering things about her mother and herself that were hidden before. The author gives us a fantastic view of New Orleans food, music and people. The concept of Voodoo Vows is amazing with strong, well-written characters. Diana has done well with her debut novel. I look forward to more from her.

First book...New author.... Awesome

Diana Marie created an image of New Orleans that feels so real I was right there experiencing it, sights...smells...excitement. All of it.

Rosie is very likeable...Even lovable. All of the characters come alive in this witch's voice... I think it is the best 1st person voice I have read.

Recommended read. Now impatiently awaiting the next book.... it is part of a series so don't expect the HEA. I don't mind though.

Rose had left New Orleans after the death of her mother, only to be drawn back months later. Once back, she finds that she's a powerful witch with powers yet to be determined. I believe the storyline has lots of potential and enjoyed the authentic New Orleans feel of this leisurely paced story.

"Voodoo Vows" is an intriguing blend of voodoo, friends, and romance set in New Orleans. Quirky characters and famous areas in NOLA keep a reader interested as they unravel the story that Diana Marie Dubois has woven for us. I enjoyed "Voodoo Vows" and look forward to reading more of the books in the series, but for me I felt a little disconnected from the characters up until almost the very end. I'm not sure if it was just me or that I needed a little more of something to connect with them.

I give this a 3.5 to 4

After her mother’s mysterious disappearance from their New Orleans home, Rosie Delacroix leaves, telling no one where she’s gone. She returns six months later, determined to solve the mystery and pick up the pieces of her life. She reunites with her longtime friend, Jahane and rekindles the flame with her ex, a sexy Cajun named Julian Quibodeaux. Soon, all three are plunged into the dangerous world of dark paranormal forces. Rosie seems to question that her mother came from a long line of witches. Her reluctance to believe she’s one also is confusing, since she’s been “gifted” with dream visions. The plot is standard New Orleans paranormal fair—witchcraft, the voodoo of Marie Laveau, and loup garous, with one lively addition of a unique Guardian. Armed with her mother’s talisman and this Guardian, she should be safe from the evil forces, but the presence of questionable acquaintances has her wondering whether she’s among friends or foes.

The author describes the local New Orleans cuisine and scenery artfully, and comes out of the gate name-dropping famous NOLA locations as though reading them off a list. Rosie and Jahane’s dialogue and antics, which include touristy activities such as carriage rides and ghost tours, make them seem more like innocent twenty year olds rather than women in their late twenties. It starts off a little slow but crescendos nicely, only to end in a frustrating cliff-hanger. Regardless, this is a good effort for first time author, Diana DuBois.

This is an intriguing story about Rosie Delacroix who left her boyfriend, her best friend, her life, everything, after her mother’s disappearance. Then she decides to return to New Orleans and attempts to pick up and repair the broken pieces of her shattered life.

This tale is filled with a mystery that kept growing as the tale progressed. Halfway through this book, it captured me in its claws to where I had to know what was going to happen next. Then the ending. Omg, it’s a cliffhanger, and I want to know what’s going to happen next dang it!

Rosie’s best friend Jahane is a great character who loves Rosie unconditionally and supports her through and through. We all should have a friend and be a friend like Jahane. Then there’s Rosie’s boyfriend Julian, who despite her bailing on him, accepts her with open arms. They’re both crazy in love with each other. But Julian is cursed and at first, none of them are aware of the terrible fate that awaits him.

In her quest to discover what happened to her mother and why strange things are happening to her, Rosie discovers she comes from a long line of witches and is gifted a guardian—a Great Dane who she affectionately calls Athena. I love Athena and the fact she’s a magical canine who can telepathically communicate with Rosie. What a cute twist to this story. Love it.

As a reader, I enjoy books with imagination, thought, good characters, and a story that captures me. Voodoo Vows is one of them, and I’m looking forward to book two in this series.

This book immerses you in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It is filled with magic and mystery. From the very beginning it keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen.

Rosie is a little too trusting at times. There is only one person that she interacts with in the book that she doesn't trust and by the end she trusts that person as well. She is faced with evil that is after her and yet every person that she comes into contact with becomes her friend. I would have liked to see her be a little more careful and rather than just believing everything that is told to her have her work for her answers and not always take things at face value.

I love the way that the magic and practices are incorporated into the book but when most people would have doubted their sanity or outright disbelieved what was happening she just accepted it and moved on. It kept the story moving but didn't give much depth to the character.

I am anxious to read the next book as it was a great story line and held my attention.

A delightful story from debut author Diana Marie DuBois!!! When Rosie Delacroix's mom goes missing she runs away from the people and the city she loves. When she returns home she discovers that her mom was telling the truth about her being a witch and a powerful one at that. Her boyfriend Julian Quibodeaux is happy to have her home but they are both unaware that he has been cursed. Will Rosie learn to use her powers in time to save him?

Ms. DuBois is a very descriptive writer. You will feel like you are walking down the streets with Rosie and Jahane. I swear I could almost smell the beignets and hear the jazz music. She also does a good job developing the characters. The friendship between Rosie and Jahane is incredible and Rosie and Julian's relationship is HOT!!! I can't wait to see what happens with Julian's curse. But my favorite character by far is Athena!!!

Voodoo Vows is full of magic, steamy sex and the cutest dog you could imagine!!!

love, love, loved this book! It was a page turner for me from beginning to end. In fact,i was a bit miffed when the book ended. I want more and real soon. This new writer has a great future ahead of her if she keeps putting out pages like these. I could almost smell the food and flowers and stinky decaying bog.

I already miss, Athena and Rosie and Jahane and of course Julian and Derrick. So many unanswered questions. So much has happened and much much more to come.. i am so anxious...and waiting

This is the first book i have read where there is a dog as a main character. I love it! I even learned a bit about Louisiana and the customs there.
