Love on the Scottish Spring Isle

Rate this book
She fled her wedding in a taxi. He doesn’t do breakfast. And it was only supposed to be a vacation fling…

April just traded her wedding vows for a taxi ride to the airport. Still in her dress and desperate to disappear, she lands on a remote Scottish island looking for a break from her ‘perfect’ life – and definitely not a man.

Enter Euan Macleod. Scottish surf instructor. Shameless flirt. Certified player with a bed in the back of his camper van and a habit of keeping things casual.

April wants her first one-night stand to be with him. To his surprise, Euan wants to make her coffee in the morning and that's a first.

But when sparks fly and hearts get tangled, April must decide if she’s willing to trust love or run back to her old life. And Euan has to choose: keep his van, his freedom, and the carefree life he knows – or give it all up for the woman who’s turning his world upside down.

Synopsis: A cute romance about a woman who escapes to Scotland after leaving her longtime boyfriend at the altar. Immersed in the beauty of Scotland, she builds a connection with the local ladies' man/surf instructor/bartender.

Was this the best contemporary romance that I've ever read? Absolutely not. But the ending made me feel warm and fuzzy and sometimes, that's all that really matters (I'm also PMS-ing so that might be another factor 😭)Both the heroine (April) and the hero (Euan) were likeable and charming. Euan could be categorized as a "man whore" hero, but his Casanova ways are a cover for DEEP-SEATED abandonment issues. April leaves her groom, Dick, at the altar once she realizes that they have zero sexual chemistry. Which is unfortunate.... given that his name is Dick. April's journey is about freeing herself from other people's expectations while Euan's journey is about freeing himself from his past (his parents abandoned him when he was a child) The epilogue is what made this a solid 3-star read.

A few notes (vague spoilers below):

April and Euan fall for each other in 2 weeks which is fine for a historical romance, but I can't handle it in contemporary romances.
Airport scenes when one character is looking for the other are great to see onscreen, but they are STRESSFUL to read about (or maybe that's just me 😂)
April calls her ex "Dickie" which is….a choice.
We also hear all about Euan’s prowess in the bedroom but his and April’s love scenes are short and not very descriptive. BOOOOOO

CW: parental abandonment

I loved the story! The only downside is that it's written in third party.

Runaway brides, Scottish isles and airport confession scenes? Sign me up!

What I liked about this book was exploring Alice's sexuality. Although many romcoms might contain spice, not a lot delve in depth into the vulnerability behind the actions. I appreciated the attempt at making Euan emotionally available but in my opinion, it's not possible to change that quickly over a span of two weeks.

For me, there were times when the romance got very cringe and hallmark-y and I feel that this did pull down the quality of the story a lot as it no longer made it believable. I always love an airport confession but the speeches in this one dragged on a bit.

Overall, this was a short and sweet romance. The writing was straightforward, easy to understand and there wasn't a need to keep track of loads of facts to get involved with the story. I would definitely recommend it for a holiday read if you're looking for something low commitment.

April leaves her fiancé at the altar, and escapes to the airport. She chooses to fly to a small island off the coast of Scotland, where nobody can find her. Euan is known for his series of one-night stands, until he meets a rain-soaked April who is looking for someplace to stay.

This is a romance between two people who carry some baggage but are very likeable and you can't help but root for them to end up together. There are some spicy parts, but this really is a sweet romance that will leave you with a smile.

Thank you to BookSirens for the opportunity to read and review this novel.

I was so excited when I was asked to review this book. I absolutely loved the first one and couldn't wait to get my hands on Euan...and April!! Thankfully I wasn't disappointed! Euan appears the easiest of characters...one-night stands are his speciality but he really is complex and broken. April is equally broken; both their families have a lot to answer for (with the exception of Morag! What a woman!!). My heart broke for April a number of times with Euan's reluctance. Love the airport scene (no spoilers!). Can't wait for the next Scottish adventure!

Love on the Scottish Spring Isle is the 2nd stand-alone book in the Escape to Scotland series by Beatrice Bradshaw. It is a charming, cozy and spicy contemporary island (small-town) romance set in Scotland featuring a vacation fling, a hot surfer, a runaway bride and an old VW camper van.

April Virginia Smith has just fled her own wedding in US to escape the life that is suddenly suffocating her. Seeking for freedom and independence, she impulsively lands on the small Isle of Saorsa in Scotland with nothing else than her suitcase packed for a tropical honeymoon, the clothes on her back and no place to stay. Euan MacLeod is a local surf instructor and barkeeper – he is also the local heartthrob with a no-strings attached policy – living currently in a VW camper van. When April walks in the local bar – soaking wet after having walked there all the way from the airport, the attraction between them sparks and they get pulled into a steamy whirlwind holiday romance. While Euan fights the demons of his past, April needs to decide her future. What will become of them once the holiday comes to an end and they have to face the reality?

The book is well written and really easy to read. The writing style of the author is fluent and descriptive – the landscape as well as the characters really come to life (you can almost feel the salty air and the windswept landscape). The plot is straightforward and you get involved in the story right away. I really loved the way the author has integrated the scenery into the story not just used it as a backdrop. The story itself is written in third person, with alternating viewpoints which gives the reader a good peek into the mind of both of the main characters. This is a vibrant romance story about self-discovery and freedom. The characters are well-written and even as it is a short and easy read, there is depth in them. On the surface Euan seems to be easy-going and carefree – specialized on one-night stands and with charm as well as heart stopping looks, he is the perfect guy for a satisfying vacation fling. On the inside, however, he is much more complex…and sadly, broken. April is equally broken, just in another way. Having lived a dull and predictable life following every rule and expectation, she is now trying to explore her wilder side. Both of them were left down by their families and carry past wounds that now threaten their future. There is a powerful attraction between them and of course spice, but there is also much more than that. There is emotional vulnerability – both of the main characters have emotional scars to deal with. April is running from her future and Euan is hiding from his past. What I like about the concept is that April is neither the sad runaway bride nor is she mad at her fiancée (they actually seem to get along just fine). It is interesting to see the relationship between April and Euan evolving, but also to see how the both of them grow on their own. And there are a number of lovely side-characters too - I especially enjoyed Euan’s sister Morag – a wise and caring woman. So all in all it is a holiday romance, but just as much a story about freedom, self-discovery and love.

Overall it was a short and sweet story to read. It was refreshing and had a unique touch to it – a true Scottish escape. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. Can’t wait for the next Scottish escape!

She just fled her wedding for a chance at true freedom. He's a hot surf instructor who never stays for breakfast. Sparks fly sky high on the Scottish Hebrides, but can these two wild hearts conquer their true fears this spring?

April's impulsive sprint from the altar – in her wedding dress – lands her on the small Isle of Saorsa in Scotland. She wants to hide from her old and suffocating life, seeking a new beginning. But her quest for freedom and independence hits a bump when she meets Euan, Saorsa's resident heartthrob, barkeeper, and surf instructor, who's all about no-strings-attached fun.

Or so he was.

Euan's motto until April stormed into his life? Love 'em and leave 'em with a smile. But to his annoyance, April isn’t just another vacation fling or a notch in the chassis of his VW camper van. She is a runaway bride with a serious wild streak, and she is turning this player’s laid-back life upside down.

Their attraction is as powerful as it is inconvenient - because she is going back the US and he isn’t letting anyone close. April is wrestling with the fallout of her escape. Euan is facing a tidal wave of feelings he never saw coming.

As they are drawn into a steamy whirlwind romance, Euan's commitment-free lifestyle clashes with April's desire for something real. While he grapples with his past, April must decide between the safety of her known life and the terrifying beauty of true, untamed love.

Runaway bride meet’s handsome surfer guy - was hooked from the first chapter. April literally flee’s who own wedding as she was about to walk down the aisle in Kansas City, USA and ends up on the Isle of Saorsa of the coast of Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 She walk into the local pub on arrival looking like a drowned rat meets Euan. He is the hot surfing instructor who only believes in one night stands - no relationships! Will April be the one to change this?

As the story continues, so does their relationship. Both April and Euan have emotional issues to deal with. Will they be able to make it work? Will they overcome their issues and have a future together? One is fleeing from the future, the other is running from the past. Will they be able to meet in the middle?

I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story 💗 From page to page, chapter to chapter, you will enjoy this beautiful story - from cover to cover! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊😊

I really enjoyed the way the book started in the thralls of why the MFC April was doing what she needed to do. I feel like her reasoning, and her emotions that made her character is something that can be felt by many people in long-term relationships.

I enjoyed the references that were about movies and music that allowed you to see into how the author was thinking about her characters. I’m so happy that April wasn’t this sad runaway bride, but she was looking for a way to take the life she had and put it behind her.

The description of the island itself is beautiful, and I loved the Scottish writing. Reading the words you could hear in your head the Scottish accent that these characters would have.
I think I would’ve given the book a higher rating, to a 4, if the one part of the book made a little bit more sense. When April and Euan were at the book festival and that led to the scene with the Townhall, I found that there wasn’t a cause or a reason to why that scene came about. Which made me think that the beginning part of the book, and the end part of the book were missing the middle aha moment.

Spice rating I would give a one just because it didn’t go into too much detail and allow you to be engulfed in that moment.

I also found the font of the book was a little disorientating when it came to if something was in italics or not.

I really enjoyed the sister character and how she was a big part of Euan’s life. I enjoyed the ending as well as the epilogue but like I said that middle bit just didn’t allow me to understand the characters motivations to create that event and how their story continued from that part.

🌅Hebrides isle & hot male lead: had me from the start🏄

4-4.5🌟stars
The storyline for Love on the Scottish Spring Isle has oodles of romantic eye contact, tingly touches and shared moments with great imagery. The windswept shores of a small Scottish island provide a perfect backdrop for local surf instructor/bartender Euan Macleod and American runaway bride April Smith to fall for each other, though Euan is pretty set in his ways as the quintessential one night stand playboy with abandonment issues rooted in his childhood. Although April has her own issues back in Kansas City to resolve and her uncertain future path to consider, Ryan's struggle between his clear affection for this visiting American and his love 'em and leave 'em lifestyle dominates the romance. I very much enjoyed it and the plot held my interest beginning to end.

I'm not a reader who needs heavy steam and I was happy that this book has some heated tangles but not an overabundance. A few of the romantic speeches were a bit longer than I needed. The island folk added a bit of wit and whimsy, but there's no mistaking this is a romance. And the island itself as described by the author seemed a heavenly spot for tossing your cares away and just being, focused on the present, gale force winds and all! I loved the setting and thought it was the perfect location for a whirlwind romance.

I am excited to see what author Beatrice Bradshaw has in store in her next Scottish romance.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This book has an absolutely beautiful setting! I want to visit that island and see all of the amazing scenery in the book. I am impressed with how well Bradshaw wove the scenery seamlessly into the story.

My second favorite part of this book after the setting is how this book allows both main characters to grow on their own. April and Euan learn and decide how they want their lives to proceed separately from one another. I want to see more of this!

I found when April referred to Euan's butt as his peach emoji cringy. This is a personal grievance/ick of mine that I did not realize I had until now. I feel like especially in a book with spice, we are all adults here and can call body parts by their proper names.

The nicknames they both gave each other were so fun and clever. Their banter overall was quite good and funny to read.

I will note this book has multiple explicit sex scenes. The author has stated that she is a big advocate for sexual liberation and conveys such in her books. That said, these scenes can be skipped without missing too much plot if spicy scenes are not your cup of tea. There is also a spicy bonus chapter available for anyone who enjoys that content.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The setting is immersive and gorgeous above all else. April and Euan's banter is amusing and flows well. Both April and Euan grow on their own which adds a lot of value to their commitment.

Sweeps you along like the Soarsa waves. 🌊💖

What a wonderful read. The equivalent of a Hebridean island: captivating, romantic and at times wild and untamed.

Scottish romance can often be full of cliches, but not this. It was authentic and also moving and funny. Beatrice Bradshaw is German but she really knows Scotland and all it’s little quirks and linguistic idiosyncrasies. Referring to Euan’s manhood as his “boaby” had me laughing out loud. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen the word hochmagandy (sex) in a romance book until now. Just brilliant.

April is a loveable heroine with whom we can empathise but also raise a glass to when she takes her future into her own hands more than once. And Euan is seventy shades of hot with his surfing prowess, his poetry writing and his bedroom (or beach room ) skills. And his boaby does not disappoint. :)

Love on the Scottish Spring Isle is full of heartwarming descriptions of couthy island life, earthy imagery of the Scottish landscape, oodles of yearning and some very satisfying hochmagandy. I can’t wait to read the extra scene of their wedding night.

Beatrice’s first book, Love in the Scottish Winter Highlands, was great but this is even better. A perfect Spring read. ⭐️💖⭐️💖⭐️

The second installment of the Escape to Scotland series did not disappoint - in fact, the story and the characters have taken up permanent residence in my brain and I'm not sure when that will expire.

Runaway bride stories are always interesting to me but this felt like the most believable (and relatable, lol) backstory. April has spent the last 10 years comfortable - and right before she makes a very serious commitment, she finds herself running away to anywhere and fate deposits her squarely on a tiny island off the coast of Scotland.

Euan is arguably one of the easiest characters to fall for - his playboy mentality belies his deep seated emotional trauma over ghosts from his youth. He - like April - is living comfortably with the existence he's scratched out of his hometown. While he wouldn't dream of leaving the island for anything in the world, he's had a thought or two that maybe his lover-boy lifestyle should be retired.

What I loved the most about this story is the way April handles herself from the beginning. She knows running isn't the only option but gives herself grace for what she thought was the best at the time. She recognizes that this impromptu trip to the Scottish Isles is exactly what she needs to help remake herself into someone she feels more comfortable as. Euan and the layers we get to peel back from him are just heart-squeezing. It's so easy to read his point of view and just kick your feet and giggle over the charm.

If you like:
- minimal angst with a delightful slow-burn-high-heat romance between two characters looking for completely different things
- smalltown vibes set in a Scottish-beach town, complete with a bed and breakfast and surf school run by a sister and brother (respectively)
- a cozy romance that shows the depth two people can possess and recognize in each other when it feels like the rest of the world has only ever seen their surface..
.. you're going to kick your feet, giggle, and swoon over Euan and April (aka, Hough-Anne and May <3).

**Thank you so much to Beatrice for letting me get an ARC of this story!**

April flees a loveless marriage by leaving her uninspiring fiance at the altar and absconding to Scotland.

Euan is a commitment phobic surf instructor and bar tender who’s eschewed anything but copious one night stands after a first love broke his heart at nineteen. Add in parents who basically hated each other abandoned a thirteen year old Euan to the (fortunately loving) care of his older sister.

Fate brings the two together on the tiny hamlet of Saorsa where restless Euan resides - sometimes - in his janky camper van/shaggin’ wagon. The attraction between them is immediate and intense and Euan does his utmost to avoid a complication like April who needs things he’s certain he can’t give her, namely fidelity and stability. April meanwhile feels as though a fling with an expiration date with Euan could be just the thing to get her groove back and decide what she wants out of life, how she can move forward.

I really loved the imagery of this little slice of Scottish paradise: the rugged, beautiful terrain and climate of Saorsa itself figures large as a character.

Will their agendas ever align to give their connection a chance?

I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and booksirens and I’m happy to share my honest review.

This is essentially a runaway bride finds love in a remote picturesque island with a hot sweet man kind of story. I loved the setting, the whole island life and people aspect was done so well that it made me want to jump on a plane myself and see where life takes me. And dream of summer vacations and bike rides etc. The way the author can paint a picture of gorgeous scenery with words is really good. While I usually love a runaway bride, let’s-turn-a-new-leaf-in-life kind of story, I somehow didn’t care for April. I cannot even pinpoint what it was about her that rubbed me the wrong way but something did and since I didn’t love April, it was hard to see why Euan did. Thus, I didn’t feel the romance part of the book, which is kind of sad because all the necessary components were there. Still, it is a beautiful escapist book, with a good premise, with some serious undertones, a sense of hope and with a very hot male lead, so give it a try.

A great book my Beatrice and I do believe it is my first runaway bride book.

The book follows April who at the very last minutes decides she doesn't want this boring life anymore and runs away to Scotland.

Then enters Euan. The handsome playboy. Euan is known as the man who only does one night stands in his van. But when April enters the pub he works in things start to change.

All April wants is a one night stand, to see if it is her who is bad in bed or if it was her ex and who better than the Scottish playboy but for once Euan can't do that. He needs more than one night with April.

When their communications start to break down its time for April to run again but she can only get to the airport and the rest...well you'll have to read the book.

It is such an easy and enjoyable read.

- Runaway bride

- No strings attached MMC

- New beginnings

- Banter

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites! I absolutely love the way she describes the setting..I feel like I'm right there.

I like the FMC April, who flees from her wedding in the US and ends up in Scotland. She is a bit feisty, which I love. She meets surf instructor and all around ladies man, Euan. Euan is a lot more complex than I originally thought. He has some past issues that he covers with his freestyle persona.

As April and Euan get to know one another, they start to feel more comfortable being themselves and not the personas they hide behind.

I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to more from this series.

This book tucked at all of my heartstrings in the best way possible! I felt every heartbreak, every sting of rejection and every moment of joy. Both Euan and April might seem like they can handle anything but underneath it all they are vulnerable and tender and afraid to show that side of themselves – and also to ask for the things they really want – until they let their friendship develop.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Scotland and here is a book that feels like I’m right there, breathing the fresh sea air, having a dram of whisky, or two, and feeling all the feelings. Truly priceless.

Thank you so much Beatrice for the ARC!

First thank you so much for the change to read this ARC!
Where do you go when you run away from your wedding? Scotland of course and a small island at that. April really works on finding herself in this book and building her confidence up from her last relationship and her childhood. Euan has always been just a one night stand kind of guy. Let me tell you I just about melted when he asked April how she took her coffee in the morning! There relationship is so cute and they help each other grow. I have been to Scotland and this book makes me want to go back!

April, a runaway bride, escapes to an island in the Scottish Hebrides, after a wedding that never was. There, she meets Euan, a hunky, charismatic surfer. He is a please em' and leave em' kind of guy...at least, he thinks he is until he meets April. Both he and April go on a journey of self-discovery and fall for one another in this sweet small isle romance. Cosy, yet with sizzle and spice, Love on the Scottish Spring Isle is the perfect escapisim for lovers of Scottish romance.

Awesome! April and Euan, tie the knot or not? They fell in love onthe small Scottish Isle of Saorsa. Fleeing from a wedding. Can Euan ensure she makes it down the aisle this time around? Spicy , romantic and fun. Brilliant , immersive and fun romance. They found love and ran with it. Great characters , superb narratives and excellent descriptions. I felt one of the family as Morag gets set to see her baby bro get wed.
