Description
: The business of love is dangerous.

For Jennifer Kent, a recent MBA graduate who has been searching for work in Manhattan for four long months, time and money are running out. If she doesn't find work soon, she'll need to return to her native Maine, where the job situation is even more bleak.

And where her abusive parents lie in wait.

But when an unorthodox arrangement is proposed, Jennifer decides to take it. She agrees to be the "girlfriend" of Alexander Wenn, the reluctant, billionaire CEO of Wenn Enterprises, who is so devastatingly good looking, he needs a beautiful woman like Jennifer on his arm to "keep the wolves at bay."

In this case, the wolves are other women, all of whom vie for his attention so aggressively, they keep him from focusing on business at the exclusive events he must attend. It's there that deals are cut. What they want is his money and his power. Damaged by a past event, the only thing Alex wants to do is focus on work. And to forget the past.

But can Jennifer deny their white-hot chemistry? As she's swept into this glittering otherworld of society and big business, she finds herself struggling to keep from falling for Alex, an almost impossible feat she nevertheless must meet.

Armed with her MBA, Jennifer Kent knows about business. But what she doesn't know is what could destroy her--the business of protecting her own heart. And maybe her own life when it's put on the line time and again.

Over 200,000 words. Each volume was a #1 best-seller.

Audible Re-read: I loved this just as much as the first time and the narrator was really good. I have no complaints.

Great Romantic Suspense!

This was a great read, the suspense was good and I liked the main characters. I spent the whole time trying to figure who was the threat and it took right to the very end before I figured it out. I liked that it wasn't obvious. I have to say, my favorite character was Ms Blackwell. She almost stole the show from Alex and Jennifer. There was also enough about Lisa and Tank that has me wanting to dive right into their story. Great writing!

This story was just OKAY! Initially, I was drawn into the setting and liked where everything was going, but the dialogue suddenly seemed very unrealistic after around 15% in. There was too much dialogue at times and then not enough in spots that should have had more. It became incredibly hard for me to stay focused, so I skimmed the last half to the end.

One example of dialogue in one particular scene that bothered me was when Mr. Wenn dropped Jennifer off for the first time outside of her apartment. He learns that she lives on the 4th floor in her building and his first reaction to her was to say,

"That's got to be hot"

Who says that as a first reaction??? How did he know from inside his limo that there wasn't any air conditioning inside the building? It seemed to me that he was upset she is living in a bad area of town by his facial reactions that Jennifer picked up on as they pulled near her residence. I feel that Mr. Wenn should have said something more about the area she resides in general, not something about the heating/cooling of her unit without previous knowledge of her space. He has never set foot inside her apartment.

This story had so much potential but fell flat in my opinion. Who knows, maybe it's just me.

DNF: Honestly if I read another romance where the guy is 35+ and meets the 23-25 yr old girl who is wise beyond her years I will puke. As a 43 yr old woman it's irritating. I am expected to believe that just because she has her MBA she's a business genius? And he hires her as a consultant making $500k a year? Give me a freaking break. This story was boring and the characters were boring. They literally mention that she's from Maine 1 billion times and evidently she has the best ass on the planet. She drinks dirty martini's and reads the business section of the newspaper all day which is why she's so business savvy. She's also the most attractive woman in Manhattan but she's so humble and doesn't realize it. Give me flawed characters with a sense of humor or something besides too perfect people.

I wanted a romance not a mishmash of films, Working Girl, Pretty Woman, mixed with The Devil Wears Prada and then drenched in Fifty Shades of Grey. The writing made my teeth ache from clenching them. This work of fiction reminded me of my pathetic attempt at a romance novel when I was in high school. The author apparently has no idea what people with MBA's actually do, other than it has something to do with business, and Jennifer ignored the number one rule of interviewing for a job: find out as much as you can about the company you are interviewing with and even better if you know as much as you can about the person who will be interviewing you. Both of these are very easy to do with the internet. Plus every job this character got was because of her looks, and of course, her best asset - her ass.
Sorry, I just couldn't finish this juvenile attempt at a romance novel. The dialogue of the characters was just too painful to endure to the end.

It alienated me

Where do I even start. The first book had a good beginning with likeable characters, then it went downhill from there. From the moment she attends her first party it went on repeat. Designer dresses, portentous people, and the main character turned into the very people she fought against.
A size 0 is not perfect, reality check. By the end of this book I simply didn't care if they died of not because it was like a stuck record.
It was however well written otherwise and heavily detailed but far too long, books one and four would have sufficed. It would have been better. Books two and three are just waffle about designer clothes, eating salad and nothing. One character seemed hellbent on promoting staving oneself by eating nothing but salad and in order to be healthy or perfect in her eyes is to be a size 0. Totally offensive. At least the main character ate a burger.
The storyline was simple and easy to follow.

Really disappointed considering the money I paid. The book didn't live up to the hype.

Heartwarming read

For me, the title was a bit misleading. It wasn’t until the end of the 3rd book and the 4th book that I understood why the title. This was not what I thought it was going to be. The other billionaire books I have read was very intense and very hot and steamy. This story was about Alex and Jennifer, but with a heavy dose of fashion. Wasn’t until almost the end that it got really, really good. Alex did not come across as the strong, dominant billionaire that I expected. Jennifer seemed to be the stronger personality of the two even with her trust issues. Alex fell in love so quickly, but had a very hard time opening up about his family and wife. All the information she found out about him, she got from Tank or Blackwell. Barbara Blackwell was a great asset to this story. Loved her energy and no nonsense attitude.

Another Kindle Unlimited tease -- and it just didn't work for me. Too much silly dialogue, unbelievable characterizations and a lot of regurgitation over and over. I got tired of "dressing Jennifer" on rewind -- and the constant descriptions of her "a$$."

Sorry -- but no go. Just wasn't what I expected, but I did stick it out to the end. If I'm going to review, then the author deserves my full attention.

Do not buy this book and call out racism when it comes up, even in romance novels.

I never thought I would have to write something like this in a review for a romance novel. I will preface this all by saying that I've read hundreds and hundreds of romance novels, and I have never seen something like what happened in this series. I have such an issue with the way that the author fixated on the name of the character Immaculata Almendarez, who is essentially the jealous, conniving, and rude woman who wants Alex, the main male character and love interest of the book.

Initially when Immaculata is introduced in the first book by Alex he says “This is Jennifer Kent.  Jennifer, this is Immaculata Almendarez.” and the main character and heroine, Jennifer, thinks to herself "Who in the hell has a name like that?"

What's interesting to me about this scene, especially as a Latina reader, is that immediately my thought was "Well, anyone who is of Spanish or Latin descent likely has a name like that." It struck me as odd that the main character would call out Immaculata's name like that, but I continued to read the book.

I was willing to read this series until the end, until one of the characters (Ms. Blackwell) said the following about Immaculata after a particularly nasty altercation between her and Jennifer. "I’ve never liked that Immaculata woman.  First of all, what the hell is up with her name?  Immaculata.  It sounds cheap to me.  It sounds like she should be scrubbing toilets.  I know that sounds racist, and it probably is, which I’ll apologize for now because I don’t mean it that way.  It’s only because years ago a friend of mine had a cook named Immaculata, and she was awful to me."

And then, for the first time I got both angry about this scene and flabbergasted that the author would be so flippant about what is clearly racism being presented by multiple characters in this book. To begin, the author had complete agency over the name of this character, which tells me that it was a choice to make this woman have a Latin or Spanish sounding name. It was then a choice to have another character, who is a wealthy white woman, then call that very woman "cheap" because of her incredibly Latin sounding name. It was a choice for the author to have Blackwell say "It sounds like she should be scrubbing toilets" which she then realizes sounds racist, because it is racist. She then tries to cover it up with the fact that she had a negative experience with the cook with the same name, as if that makes any of this any better??? All it did was reinforce this idea of how Latinx and Latin American people are the service workers to wealthy white Americans who then hold these types of beliefs about them.

Not only should "scrubbing toilets" not be viewed as an insult, but for all intents and purposes, Immaculata is a wealthy Latin or Spanish woman. And yet, she still faces this type of flippant racism that the author both intentionally included in her book and did absolutely nothing to address. I don't understand what the purpose of the fixation on Immaculata's name was and if it had stopped at the first scene then I could have written it off as just one of those weird things. Similar to the way that Jennifer and her best friend Lisa talked about the character Peachy.

But, the above scene displays such a clear lack of awareness on how racism and negative stereotypes can play out even in what was meant to be a romance novel with mature themes in it. I am in absolute shock that this is something the author would present and that so many reviews of this novel would overlook. This is absolutely unacceptable and as an author and industry I would encourage every reader to hold these books to a higher standard of not accepting this type of blatant and uncalled for racism that is not addressed and was entirely unnecessary. Literally you could have gone without this scene, you could have gone with a completely different name that does not allude to an ethnic group and community that already experiences enough negative stereotyping in other areas of society.

In addition, this is all separate from the issue of how weight is presented in this book (literally have never read the word "fat" written so much as a descriptor for periphery characters) and the unhealthy relationship that Ms. Blackwell has with food (she basically has an unaddressed eating disorder). And the way that trauma, especially years of physical abuse that Jennifer went through is thought of as something that her best friend just needs to give her some "tough love" about so that she can finally open herself up to being with Alex. If I am to believe that Jennifer has a psyche that has been deeply impacted by being beaten by her father for years, then this author needs to do a better job of showcasing how she has been able to overcome that deep impact. Trauma isn't something you just wake up one day and decide to let go of because "it's time" it's a process of healing that I really didn't see discussed or addressed in the appropriate way in this book.

All this to say, I stopped reading this book after the Blackwell scene and if I could wipe it from my mind and not have ever contributed to the payment of it then I would. Please do not support this type of content and please, Christina Ross, learn from this and do better to ensure that your characters effectively tackle these serious issues that you seemed to have flippantly included as plot devices.

That’s not how being poor works. I can’t.

These books had a great plot, if unoriginal. but it slowly became repetitive and dull toward the end. It was very 50 Shades of Grey like. I had two major issues with this series that ruined it for me:

First, Jennifer is supposed to be this poor, struggling woman who
can’t even afford her rent, but some how has money to go out and buy nothing, but Gucci, Dior, and Jimmy Choos. We often get an overly detailed break down of exactly who and what she’s wearing every other page. It was obvious this author has zero clue what it’s like to actually struggle which made the whole thing laughable, childish, and relatively unrelatable. Too poor for a roof over her head, but hey, at least she’s wearing name brand. Ugh.

Second, the book literally starts off with a humble, down on her luck woman whose determined to get a job, but not willing to throw away her personality to do so even when she’s treated with unkindness by wealthier people. Fast forward half way through and she’s just as nasty and hateful as all the people she supposedly hates, but then wants people to be nice to her. She defends her boyfriend’s hostile takeover of smaller companies to the point of insulting the people who previously owned them. I get having to blend in with the lion’s den, but what drew me to this book was the promise of a fresh, level headed main character. Disappointed.

It’s obvious the author lost her original idea somewhere in these books. Jennifer’s character slowly dissolves into a standard Mary Sue who accomplishes nothing on her own, constantly has to be rescued, makes stupid choices even while supposedly being super smart, and is quick to toss aside her independence for her new boy toy. The only saving grace in this book is Lisa, who pays the rent and shops at target while broke ass Jennifer mooches and buys Versace. Sorry. I can’t.

Sappy and predictable, truly negative stars rewarded

The first two chapters were witty and I was prepared to curl up and read for the day. Boy was I disappointed! Jennifer becomes a simpering idiot with temporary flashes of intellect designed to trick the reader into believing she is not the vaporish air head that she is. She becomes increasingly like a paper cut on your finger, a stone in your shoe, a toothache waiting to become an abscess. Alex is nothing but a poor man’s Christian Grey. The repetition of phrases, descriptions and adjectives contributes to the boredom and coma inducing tale. I am so angry I bought this as part of the set I guess it was cheap for a reason. You could not pay me to read the sequels. Those great reviews that were posted for suckers like me must have been bought. The sex scenes were clearly designed from the author’s vicarious experiences from racy vacuous novels and a clinical dictionary. The reader is the only one annihilated here!

I really enjoyed this. Rarely is a 600 page book a one-day read for me, but this was. I didn't want to put it down. It was a little over descriptive regarding fashion for me, and surprisingly under descriptive regarding intimacy, but there is so much fun story I overlooked it.

My favorite character might be the the wholly competent Mrs. Blackwell, who starts off as the mean-spirited HR lady. I sense a kindred spirit.

Can't believe I read these four books for free. Thanks Amazon prime!

Vol 1:
4 stars

Definitely has almost similar same couple meet as fsog. I'm curious to see how the next one plays out.

Vol 2:
4 stars

The story is starting to progress more, but it's sort of at a slow pace. What a cliffy! Onto the next one!

Vol 3:
3 stars

UGHHHHH!!! I don't like quick engagements. I'm not seeing the connection between the main couple. The female is also a bit annoying now. I'll still listen to the last book in this series.

Vol 4:
3 stars

This was a bit predictable. I just don't think I'll continue with Annihilate Him.

I listened to this series on audio whispersync and I wished it was a different narrator.

Needs more depth

While a good story, the characters just seemed flat to me. There was no depth, no character to them. I wanted to be engrossed in the story and it just didn’t pull me in.

Very good read

The plot was enticing. Enough drama for Alex and Jennifer to keep me entertained. However, the sex scenes were o scaled back. I sensed he was a dominant but that was never explored. I can’t even remember if Jennifer actually went down on. Maybe a rewrite of the sex scenes except for the night she lost her virginity.

While I have enjoyed this series this last book was kinda slow and I didn't get the ending I was expecting which is a bit disappointing...
Now I see there's a novella and a Holiday edition to this series and hopefully it will provide me with a proper HEA!

The sad part is that I liked the characters and they had a lot of potential, but it was completely wasted by this author who writes like a hormonal 12 year-old.
I could write my own book on all the things wrong with this book, so I will say Buyer Beware….actually Buyer DON’T Buy!!!!
You are pulled in with a few chapters you can read for free that have real potential. You see the only good reviews on Facebook. You don’t see the flaws yet and you think, ok, I’m interested, I’ll bite.
So, you pay whatever you pay, I won’t tell you what I paid because I am mortified. Oh! And you think you are getting four books. Do Not Be Fooled. It’s only one book and it’s 4 VOLUMES. Even though the picture looks like 4 books. Completely misleading, just like those free chapters are, can you say Bait and Switch?

She repeats over and over and over. We get it you’re a “Maine Girl”. She repeats stuff word for word, so she doesn’t have to create new content.

She is appalling in naivety on body image. She uses a character that literally preaches that you should not eat anything, it’s all about being a size zero. Her POV also talks about people being skinny, slim, tiny.

Then she goes into minute details about clothes, dropping designer names and details every time any girl puts on clothes in this book. Again, avoiding writing real content.

Characters who could have had depth, are one dimensional wunderkinds of themselves. The POV is THE most beautiful and she is so humble, she doesn’t know why everyone thinks that. PUKE.
The love interest is THE most handsome and instantly becomes a brainless fool in love and it is just all about the girl.
The supporting cast of characters are also caricatures of themselves.

The writing is so bad, you will cringe and roll your eyes simultaneously. You will skip entire pages of repetition and you will POSSIBLY get to the end and ask yourself how in the hell you were so blindsided, so hoodwinked.

After beating yourself up a bit and cursing the child who obviously wrote this and her conniving marketing machine, you will pick up your next book and pray that it will wash the bad taste out of your mouth.

It was just ok. I liked the characters but I had big issues with a lot of the dialogue. Every situation was over-explained and it was repetitive. The characters, every single one of them is so self aware they are able to psychoanalyze themselves in an instant and explain why they are doing the absolutely ridiculous thing that they are. It just made no sense. The story line itself started out ok but then it just got crazy and unbelievable. I know it's fiction, but I don't read paranormal for a reason, I like to believe my stories. So when the characters were once again over-explaining what was going on they wouldn't even mention the most logical and simple of reasons. Even with all of that, I really wanted to hear Tank's story so I moved on to Unleash Me.

This was a somewhat “tame” read for me. My sister recommended it, knowing this and she was right! This series was worth reading. It started off a little slow but truly developed into a very beautiful love story...and who’s not a sucker for ❤️ love. I will read the next series! I will also continue to read Ms. Ross’s work because I think she is very clever and entertaining. Her characters are creative and fully developed in the story. This one is worth the read...even for those of you who like BDSM and erotica...a little departure for a beautiful story and something different and fresh is always worth the read...

Too slow too predictable too repetitive!

So I read the 1st book. It was not bad I thought but it was boring I was hoping the nxt book would be with a little action of any kind other than they sleeping together.. but nope didn’t happen. The main characters they are too perfect. Jennifer everything she does is perfect. She has the perfect body & she is smart but she doesn’t see herself. Towards the last book i just skimmed to the last chapter Even that I didn’t read. I was just over this book all together! Don’t waste your time!

I loved to way the books were written, particularly the emotion it evokes and how they keep you guessing who is behind the threats. You would never guess it’s a character that isn’t even mentioned in the books until right before the reveal.

What I didn’t like is the fact it’s another rich guy pays poor girl to act like his gf and then they fall madly in love, this has grown old. Why can’t we have such storyline with both the characters being poor and definitely realistic. At least then readers can relate to stories. It’s not only rich men who are entitled to find their soulmate.

Not movie material

Plot is trite, has many holes not explained. Not one but all characters babble on incessantly. Last book full of repetition. False advertising saying soon to be a major motion picture. Can’t see that happening. There are lots of other books tuns better that should hit the big screen. Disappointed after all the hype.

I did like all four book and they flowed well together. What I could've used more of was depth of the characters. I wanted more of their tragic pasts to help me feel for why they are how they are now. We get a glimpse but nothing to sink into and really help me feel for them. The side characters helped move the books along well. Ms. Blackwell is a wonderfully written character.

Great series

I really enjoyed this action packed romance. I fell head over heels for Alex. This book was a rush from the beginning to the end. Full of mystery, suspense and danger. The characters are amazing. I love Ms. Blackwell. She is smart, quick witted and not to be trifled with.

It started out so strong...

But unfortunately in my opinion it didn't finish the same way.
First book (or should I say series) I read by this author. I'm not sure if this was one of her first projects or if she's been doing it for long. But in the first two books of this series I thought "wow! What a good new writer I found here!".
Now I must come clean, I don't usually read mysteries because the angst of trying to figure out who did it keeps me hooked to the book and ignoring life. As a mom, I can't let that happen often. So here's the problem. This series hooked me. But I didn't get the pay off.
I absolutely HATE when the culprit is a surprise and appears only at the end. I find it cheap. The suspects I had found were more interesting (because its usually someone you least expect, right? So I actually thought at one point that it was poor Tank because he had a thing with Diana and she was the one he dated for 5 years and he caught her cheating - wild. I know! But the author went on and on about Tank so much that I thought "he's the unsuspecting villain, right?"). Anyway, the surprise villain left me with a nasty taste in my mouth. Enough that I would have given it a 2 stars.
But here's the saving grace: Barbara! What a character! I love, love, love her! Divon, Divon, Divon.
Heroine and hero were lovely characters and I liked their struggles and personal growth.
Unfortunately there was also a lot of telling/information dump for my taste. I prefer showing. The author tried to get around that by making it duologue between 2 characters. But in my opinion it was still telling instead of showing. If she had used it more sparingly it would have been better/gone unnoticed. But all of the heroine' struggles were just telling. I felt so cold for her to talk so easily about her abuse - I didn't see/feel the cost of it. Sure, one could say she was dissociating from her past/trauma. But I don't think that's what the author was going for. I liked that she fought against her past so she could fall in love. And perhaps if I hadn't read the 4 books in one go I wouldn't have picked up on that.
But yeah, this is my opinion - you can take it or leave it.
The sexy time was good. The secondary characters were quite involved and were well developed (I love when that happens - because every fictional book deserves 3d secondary characters to help move the plot along).
But the real winner here is Ms Blackwell. What a joy it was to meet this character. She's a force to be reckoned with!
After all my complaining above, do I still recommend this book? Yes, yes I do.
It's not perfect and it won't stay with me. But it was enjoyable even if slightly upsetting to me. But this isn't real life. Its a book that didn't follow my expectations. The author still put a lot of effort into it. Clearly she had a lot to say about being an author and the industry via Lisa's character - and I also loved that! So yeah, you may not have the same issues with it that I had. So give it a try. It won't hurt anyone.

Wow! What a roller coaster ride of romance and suspense!

"Annihilate Me:Boxed Set" by Christina Ross was a wonderful roller coaster ride of steamy romance and suspense. Ms. Ross perfectly describes the ups and downs encountered in a new relationships, especially when between a sexy hot billionaire CEO and a scrappy female business grad from working class Maine. Add to that the trauma from past relationships that leads to misunderstandings and trust issues , there fireworks between main characters Alex and Jennifer, ignite the pages (and the sheets). Next Christina includes the backroom deals and manipulation of the corporate business world to increase the mystery and drama to the love story. Then all you can do is hold on as she takes you through the twists and turns, ups and downs, edge of your seat , writing that has you screaming at characters like they are there in your living room, while laughing at the antics of numerous supporting friends(characters) and crying over some of the most beautiful expressed declarations of love at the same time. As is necessary in all well written romance there is a HEA. Because of it being available in a boxed set there are no cliffhangers ( thank the heavens or I would have really been screaming!) I also think and added bonus was the inclusion of the plight and perils of being an indie author through the eyes of Jennifer's best friend, Lisa. Well Done Christina! You have me wishing my list of "To be read" books was not so long or I would be starting "Unleash Me " series right now! Thanks to Kindle Unlimited I won't go broke before I finish all the books of yours I have on my list!

This was a roller coaster - just when things looked like they were going to head to HEA, another complication arose. Fairly well edited.

Jennifer moved to New York to leave behind a painful past and embrace a new future. Unfortunately, finding a new job has not been as easy as anticipated. Leaving yet another failed interview, Jennifer meets a man on an elevator. He seems nice and listens to her troubles. As she leaves, she looks back, bumping into a man and losing her resumes in the process. The nice man, Alex, comes to help her rescue her resumes. She goes home and makes a new plan for her future. The next day, the woman she interviewed with calls and asks her come in and interview for a different job. Turns out, she is offered the opportunity to be a pretend girlfriend to help Alex fend off unwanted advances and concentrate on business. Jennifer accepts and begins her new job. The first outing ends in disaster and Jennifer walks away, returning to Plan B. Alex refuses to give up, and sets out to win Jennifer over as a real girlfriend. Will Jennifer forgive Alex? And if she does, what adventures and trouble await them? Will they survive to a HEA?

Overall, I enjoyed this read. It moved along well, and was filled with likable characters. Great for the beach or when you have a full day to kick back and read. Enjoy.
