As a Brazilian citizen, I wasn't aware of how terrible was the Great Famine in Ireland in the 19th century and this book poured all the tea.

More than never I admire the Irish people, as they've been through too much so many times. I had no idea how this episode played a decisive part for Ireland's present and now I'm sure it should be highlighted more. A whole case study can be seen here.

The best part is that the book doesn't dwell on matters, being very objective regarding its data, chronological events and action/reaction consequences.

Thanks for Captivating History and Booksprout for my copy!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It was very educational. A dependence on one type of crop for food and England failing to do something for a country they controlled at the time led to needless deaths. It helped me to understand the resentment between these two countries better although the reasons are different.

Too General

The book deals in only generalities. More specific information such as names, locations and numbers would go a long way to making a convincing story.

While I got the gist of it, most of which I already knew, the writing of this book is pretty amateurish. And definitely not “captivating.”

Put your finger on any spot on the globe that has a problem, you’ll find the British behind it . Just another reason to hate this filthy empire
