Olive Childress is introduced as a normal modern day six year old who becomes the victim of unspeakable abuse along with her best friend, Mary. Mary disappears unexpectedly and as Olive approaches her teen aged years, she escapes her twisted past when her parents move her to the quaint town of Shadow Dale. She settles into an ordinary, peaceful existence for a time until things begin to fall apart once again when she becomes involved with drugs and alcohol and subsequently covers up a hit and run accident that leaves a man dead.

Olive reconnects with her childhood friend Mary who "helps" her cope with the nightmare her life becomes. If you consider a mentally disturbed, viscious, violent psychopath to be a help… Mary leads Olive down a dark path that exposes Olive to violent lovers, rape, organized crime and so much more. And it all comes to a heart stopping conclusion in Mary Contrary: Volume one of The Nursery Rhyme Chronicles.

Sick, twisted, demented... But I try to be classy about it. I live in Florida but have lived many other places as well, living my life like a Gypsy. I am a waitress, witch, fortune teller. I have no family, few friends, and answer to no one. But freedom can be lonely. I have a blog and invite others to contribute and be featured!

Mary Contrary,is great!
From the moment you start reading it,until it's finished you find yourself wrapped in a mystery or is it?
I found myself, finishing 200 pages in one day because as the story keeps unfolding you want to see where it takes you next.
I will not give away, specifics for those who will be reading it so they can enjoy the story but let me assure you,it will be worth it.

Mary Contrary did not disappoint me. I gave it 5 stars for realistic characters, page turner, true situations and scare factor. Your heart will break for the main character. Her innocence is robbed from her at a young age and this sets the path of ruin and bad decisions in men through most of her life. Her best friend, Mary is always at her side when she needs someone to rescue her. Since Olive has so much deep rooted hurt and anger it paralyzes her from defending herself when necessary and Mary is there. When Olive is reunited with a old friend and finds happiness, Mary becomes distant and angered. Mary feels that she is the only one that protected Olive for most of her life and now she is being cast aside. Mary seems to only be capable of hurting those that have crossed Olive.
This is a must read if you're a lover of suspense and fiction that is true to life.

This is true horror! A wonderful book, where I found myself drawn to Olive from the first chapter, constantly thinking about what was going to happen next, reading until my eyes would not stay open at night. I could have read this book in one day, but sadly life gets in the way, so I had to be content with reading after the little one went to bed, I found myself putting him to bed early just so I could get to Olive's story. I think I was so drawn in, because author M.Jet mirrored real life, she made me care about Olive, I wanted to protect her from the world, just like Mary does. I can't wait to read the second book.
If you have not read Mary Contrary what are you waiting for????? You should be reading this book!

Anyone who is a fan of horror must read Mary Contrary. Olive Childress survives childhood horrors only to reconnect with her friend Mary. With a deranged psychopath Mary for a friend, Olive doesn't need any enemies. But Mary persists in leading Olive along a terrifying path of destruction. This is not the book you want to curl up with at night because it will keep you up looking for monsters. If you enjoy being terrified, read this book.

I was lucky to get an advanced copy of this book. This author is a modern day Edgar Allen Poe. She brings that stark terror that is timeless into a modern setting and sets every hair on the back of the reader's neck on end. Completely blown away by the ending. Mary Contrary is a must read!!!

Wow. If you’re looking for intense and disturbing, you have definitely found your book. This book is in no way heartwarming. But great writing? This is definitely there. I can say this because the story itself was hard for me personally to read. This being part of the reason I only gave it 4 stars. It is highly possible that if it was any other writer, I wouldn’t have been able to keep reading, but there was something about the writing style that kept me hanging on in hopes that something good would finally happen to this poor girl, Olive.

Granted, most of the bad things that happen to Olive are by her own choices, and you find out in the beginning of the book the horrible reason why. After that, it’s one terrible situation for this poor girl after another.

But from the beginning, and through it all, there’s her one silver lining, her one glimmer of hope, Mary. Mary was the only one there in her nasty part of her childhood. And every time something terrible happens as she gets older, when Olive is just about to fall apart and no one else knows how to help her, Mary comes in at just the right moment to put her back together. However, I found myself sometimes wondering if Mary was as good for Olive as she seemed to be.

I was not disappointed by the ending of this book. I was certainly not disappointed that I stuck it out through all the darkness with Olive to find out how everything turned out. This was the first full length novel for this author, and I’m really interested to find out what more is to come in the future. I will definitely be reading it!

There are books that you read, that just kind of wittle on by, that don't affect you in any kind of way. Then there are books that thrill, entertain, and mesmerise you, and then there are books that suck you in, refusing to let you get up for air. They change how you think, they have such a profound effect on you, that you spend an entire 48 hours drenched in tears, eating chocolate and contemplating life.

"Mary Contrary" does the latter. It tore me apart, broke my heart, took me on a journey that had me retracing some footsteps of my own past, and I can tell you right now, THIS book, this beautifully written book is not only a work of raw art, it's reaches into your soul.

The whole story is a journey of not only finding self discovery, learning how to live life through some horrific incidents, but it teaches you the beauty of forgiveness and not settling for second best.

From the very first page, I felt an instant connection to Olive. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and tell her that she wasn't alone and that life could be so much better.

M. Jet did such an amazing job in delivering a solid story, that it was literally agonizing when I had to stop reading. I found myself being pulled back into Olive's world as I slept and when I dived right back in, my own world became a distorted blur in the distance.

This book is real. It's gripping. It hits home hard. It shows us the ugliness and beauty of man. But above all else, it shows us just how amazing we can be when we give ourselves a chance.

If there is one book you read, it HAS to be this one.

When I first read the blurb on this book, I just had to have this book to read, and I must say I was not disappointed.

Once I started this book, I just couldn't put it down. I was addicted to this story and I just kept my eyes glued to it from beginning to end. This author is extremely good at painting a picture in our heads and keeping us needing to know more. It's a wonderful and twisted story that grabs your heart and soul. This story has taken a piece of heart and soul with it. The things the character can really happen in real life. I must say that this story did scare me and it was not one that I would read before bed.

I recommend this story to adult horror fans, and I must say that this story is not for the faint of heart.

Olive is a young girl who is bullied by her babysitter's son. She has no one to tell and when the bullying increases, she finds comfort in a new friend Mary. Mary becomes her protector. The boy joins the army and everything seems to calm down until another boy innocently touches Olive. Mary beats him to a pulp and then suddenly disappears. Olive moves to a new town, and she starts to fit in. But, when everything starts going askew, Mary returns to help. This is a captivating story and the road to destruction Olive finds herself on is too real for words. I was surprised at the ending. A wonderful tale. Makes Mother Goose look downright friendly!

Definitely different

even though there were a few misspellings the story of Mary and Olive flowed smoothly. Just when I thought I knew what was about to happen the story took a quick turn. It wasn't the happily ever after I expected.

Pretty good, engaging and I actually couldn't put it down. Although the writing style wasn't very impressive and the story was predictable, it was still engrossing.
