There are books that you read, that just kind of wittle on by, that don't affect you in any kind of way. Then there are books that thrill, entertain, and mesmerise you, and then there are books that suck you in, refusing to let you get up for air. They change how you think, they have such a profound effect on you, that you spend an entire 48 hours drenched in tears, eating chocolate and contemplating life.
"Mary Contrary" does the latter. It tore me apart, broke my heart, took me on a journey that had me retracing some footsteps of my own past, and I can tell you right now, THIS book, this beautifully written book is not only a work of raw art, it's reaches into your soul.
The whole story is a journey of not only finding self discovery, learning how to live life through some horrific incidents, but it teaches you the beauty of forgiveness and not settling for second best.
From the very first page, I felt an instant connection to Olive. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and tell her that she wasn't alone and that life could be so much better.
M. Jet did such an amazing job in delivering a solid story, that it was literally agonizing when I had to stop reading. I found myself being pulled back into Olive's world as I slept and when I dived right back in, my own world became a distorted blur in the distance.
This book is real. It's gripping. It hits home hard. It shows us the ugliness and beauty of man. But above all else, it shows us just how amazing we can be when we give ourselves a chance.
If there is one book you read, it HAS to be this one.
