This is an absolute must read for dog-lovers and Antarctic enthusiasts. Norman Vaughan, who became a well-known Alaska and avid dog musher well into his senior years, began his love of dog mushing with this epic expedition to the Antarctic that culminated with Admiral Byrd's first flight over the South Pole. It’s an easy and captivating read, as Vaughan tells his stories in first-person accounts, and it’s easy to truly feel like you’re in the story. Read it, you’ll be glad you did!
I have used this book as a read-aloud to intermediate aged students, and they loved it.
