Under the Lupine Moon

Rate this book
Under the Lupine Moon is an MM paranormal shifter romance with high heat and murder mystery, set in a small Alaskan town brimming with paranormals. It is the first in a series where each book focuses on one couple's HEA.

Finn Winters has exactly two friends, loves to cook, and can turn into a wolf the size of a Clydesdale whenever the mood strikes. But when loss leads him to someone who feels so right, even through a phone screen, Finn wonders if taking a chance and letting him in might be worth it, if it means calling him his own. That is, until he's stood up.

After Jaime Lamont inadvertently witnesses the murder of one of Monroe’s most prominent citizens, all he wants is to hide away in his quiet, safe cabin and forget about the chances that were ripped away in one horrible night. But when he’s thrust into a world of danger and mystery, he finds himself in the arms of the man he thought he'd lost all hope of ever knowing.

With Finn and Jaime back in each other's lives in a way they never expected, the electric chemistry between them is undeniable. But will hidden truths and unknown dangers tear them apart before they can even begin? Or, can they find their way back to one another?

4.5 Sweet and Charming ✨'s

Under the Lupine Moon is an MM romantic suspense novel following Jaime, a painter who has put his life on hold after witnessing a brutal murder, and Finn, a wolf shifter hired on as Jaime's bodyguard after his name is leaked to the press during the murder trial. Struggling to wrap his head around everything, Jaime decides to explore the instant connection he feels with Finn instead of focusing on the people who want to silence him. However, as the two get closer, Finn is unsure how to tell Jaime about his wolf side and bring him into a new magical world.

I absolutely loved this tender and cozy romance! The story was perfectly balanced with emotion, humor, light world-building, suspense, action, and steam. Jaime and Finn were so cute together and while their relationship developed very fast, the instalust is to be expected when the story features fated mates. The plot and writing captivated me from the beginning, the picturesque Alaska setting was beautiful and I loved how the small town vibes fit into the story and opened up the series for so much potential. The only reason I brought the rating down was because I would have loved the characters to have more background, there are several things mentioned but not explored that I think would have added even more depth to their characters.

~Many thanks to A. Knightley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Jaime’s face pinched into a pout, and he made the most adorable little huff sound, which only made Finn laugh even harder. Finally, he calmed down enough to speak. “Don’t give me that face, baby. It’s a damned weapon and I’ve done nothing to deserve it.”

This was a lovely story and a good debut novel. I especially loved the first half, as it tugged on my heartstrings a few times and really just hit the spot for a lot of the things and tropes I enjoy, even being a sort of second chance romance. It was a very entertaining story and I'll be looking forward to seeing what the author writes in the future. This one was set up well for future plot and some interesting side characters. It lost me a little bit at times in the second half, but it's hard to tell if that's because of my book slump or not.

It wasn't perfect, but I expect some of the things that made me scratch my head will be cleaned up in future books, and editing experience will help. I feel pretty confident I read the word 'hiccup' more times in this book than I have read in every other romance book combined, and not a single character had the hiccups once, lol.

All non-joky jokes aside, it was entertaining, and it made me melt from cuteness a few times, especially when the big, bad wolf started to purr.

I also wish to never read the word ‘splashed’ in relation to someone blowing a load inside someone else, ever again. Lol.

Was he staring at the moon right now, too? Did he sometimes wonder about Jaime? Did he think about Jaime as much as Jaime thought about him?

Maybe it's me? Dunno. This book has loads of high ratings, but I found it boring and formulaic. The writing is basic, with awkward sentence construction.

The first half is all twitching dicks and massive erections.

The second half is smut and more smut.

Also included:

- oodles of lame wolfy jokes;
- shallow world building;
- meandering conversation at point of kill with villain who confesses to everything;
- tiresome, long-winded setup for the next two books in the series;
- cookie-cutter characters;
- "evil alpha/pack" plot that's been done better dozens of time before.

There's just nothing new or interesting here.

I'm always down for a wolf shifter fated mate story, so add in a murder mystery and I needed to check this out. There’s no MPREG, for those that shy away from that trope. This keeps your attention all the way through with action and suspense throughout. There's a small lull when the couple finally gets together while waiting in the safe house, but at least it's spicy times.

Jamie is an artist that is currently working on remembrance paintings of lost pets for their owners. He's garnered a good following and is ready to deliver his latest commission to a very wealthy lady, which could lead to more business. Jamie is also going on a date with Finn after the delivery. They've been talking through a dating app, then text, then video chats for a while now. They finally mustered up the courage to meet in person and today is the day. While making the deliver Jamie ends up being witness to a murder, tied up, and left to die. He escapes but now everything has changed. Plagued by the memories, he holes himself up at home, reliving the night over and over again. Jamie is also sad that he never got to meet Finn and has possibly lost his only shot at Mr. Right.

Finn works for a security/bodyguard company with his ex-military buddies and fellow wolf shifters. He needed a change to lift his spirits and he joined a dating app, where he meets Jamie. His wolf has been very keen to meet Jamie ever since they first starting talking to each other. Finn and his wolf think that maybe just maybe Jamie is the one, but they will need to get a whiff of his scent to be certain. Unfortunately, Jamie never shows up to the date and Finn has been ghosted after waiting for hours. He's sure that it's the one that got away but he has to let it go and move on, for now at least.

Almost a year later and their worlds collide again when Finn's company gets a contract to protect none other than Jamie. Jaime is in danger since he's the main witness and it's almost time to testify at the trial. Finn is determined to protect and look after Jaime, even if Jaime might not be interested anymore. These two are friggin adorable honestly, between cooking together and shopping trips, to Jaime driving Finn crazy reading his romance books where his arousal was stinking up the place. They were hot and bothered on a regular basis but were misreading some signals and kept distancing themselves from each other. Finn was also worried that Jamie might recoil once he finds out that he’s a wolf shifter, like the man Jamie has to testify against. Once Jamie realizes that Finn is not in a relationship with Silas, Finn's friend/brother, Finn realizes that Jamie is still interested, and Jamie gets turned on by Finn’s shift, well it's off to the races once they're alone. Danger is lurking but they have each other and they won't miss out on that again.
“You are allowed to let yourself respond to what has happened to you. And just because you can’t find those old parts of you now, that doesn’t mean they’ve left you. They can still be a part of you again, someday, if you want them. They might look a little different, that’s all.”

It's a good first book to the series that sets up the world building, villains', and the other possible relationships for the future. There's wolf violence, house damage, biting, cuteness, sneaky tactics, found family, new allies, SMUTTTTTTT, and pretty Alaskan scenery. There's also a nice epilogue to see the couple a year after the showdown. The conversations between Silas and Finn will live rent free in my head and I'm still giggling. Poor Silas having to explain that knotting is real and not just something written in romance books, was everything. 😂 🤣
“It was always you, for me. I’ve been yours from the moment we met. I love you. Will you, um, will you be my mate?”

Content Warnings : Graphic sexual content between consenting adults in human and shifted forms; Descriptions of graphic violence and murder; Descriptions of being trapped in a confined space; Mentions of past childhood neglect and abuse; Mentions of parent death due to cancer (in the past, during childhood); Mentions of past pet loss; Mentions of parent alcoholism (in the past, during childhood); Descriptions of struggling with anxiety, depression, and PTSD

"Surprise, Jaime. You’re my mate and if you’re cool with it I’m going to bite you to tie us together for life and then I’m going to fuck you when I’m all wolfy and hairy, and then my dick will swell and get stuck in your ass?"

I think I disappointed myself with this one. I thought I was gonna get a hot sexy werewolf drama book with mystery and crime and fun times but I just got straight werewolf soft boy smut and I was not in the mood. Truly, I was looking for an emotional chemistry building, romance between Jamie and Finn and I was left just rolling my eyes a little. Im not saying the book is bad, its not. If I was actually in the mood for no thoughts just fucking I probably would of rated it higher. I could of used a lot less hiccupping and bad dirty talk and much more connection on plot. But if you are looking to get down and dirty with a big wolf man and a ginger twink fucking like their lives depend on it, then this will defiantly be for you.

Paired up with a hottie on a dating app, Jaime is really excited to meet Finn, only he never makes their date thanks to accidentally witnessing a murder that rocks the small town of Monroe.

A year later, he’s a shut in and still dealing with the trauma of witnessing the horrific crime. As if that wasn’t bad enough, with the impending murder trial on the horizon, his identity has been leaked to the media.

Fearing retaliation, Jaime’s older brother pays for 24/7 protection for his brother, and now Jaime finds himself face to face with the very man he’d been so looking forward to getting to know before his life imploded.

What Jamie doesn’t know is that Finn is a wolf shifter, and he’s smack dab in the middle of some fishy supernatural drama.

Honestly, I loved how chill Jaime was about learning about Finn being a shifter and about the supernatural in general. He just rolled with the punches and accepted Finn fur and all. & despite the murder mystery aspect of the plot, I found their relationship so sweet and adorable, and thought they balanced each other out really well.

This was such a great read and I can’t wait for more of this series, especially after meeting Sam and seeing how Silas acted around him! Plus all the new wolf drama. Gimme gimme!

Re-Read on 12/30/24

Increasing my rating to four stars because I have fallen completely in love with this world and its characters.
____________

I have so many feelings about this book. Big, messy feelings. On one hand, this is literally the written execution my imaginary romances that I write as I fall asleep which was an absolutely blast to read. But on the other hand, it definitely could have been touched up some. I would have loved to have seen more emotional depth and stakes.

Unfortunately, the chemistry between Finn and Jaime did feel a touch shallow even with the intimate scenes. it felt very instalove-y. Additionally, and this is not a problem per se, the sex was just a bit too much for me. I like my sex scenes like a warm bowl of soup: flavorful, comforting, cozy with a hint of spice. These scenes were more like a spicy curry- burning, enthralling, a bit too much for my tastes. I'm really not into the breeding/bodily fluids stuff and there was a LOT of it. maybe a bit too much.

That being said, I'll probably continue with this author because despite the few complaints, I had a good time reading this

Thank you to the author for the ARC of Under the Lupine Moon. This is my honest review.

I knew I needed to read this immediately because hello, mm wolf shifter romance? Sign me up.

This didn’t disappoint, I found it quite a unique take on wolf shifters and the world building around that was done really well and weaved into the story seamlessly.

I loved both Jaime and Finn immediately, although this story is insta-lovey, I kind of allow that where fated mates is concerned. Jaime and Finn had me laughing out loud throughout.

The first half was a bit of a slow burn and I loved all the tension but when the spice hits… it hits 🥵

The mystery element of this book was also executed well, sitting side by the side the romance in a complimentary way. I already cant wait to read the rest of the series! No pressure 😉

I fear I am cursed to compare every werewolf/shifter romance to TJ Klune and Charlie Adhara and nothing will ever measure up. This wasn’t necessarily bad and I think a lot of people could really like it, but alas, it did not work for me.

To start, the plot: I was promised being “thrust into a world of danger and mystery” but it felt like the proclaimed dangerous paranormal mystery was just happening in the periphery while we have a an extremely insta-lovey relationship happening on page. There is no mystery, there is simply a crime that is committed in the beginning and then the MCs hide. Nothing to solve no searching for answers, just hiding.

Both characters were likable but not particularly memorable in any way. They both had backstories, but it just felt like they were lacking a certain depth. The relationship was sweet, but like almost too sweet. I understand it’s because of the mating bond, but the only drama was one MC thinking the other MC was dating someone else which is resolved very quickly. Like this is a werewolf romance! Give me more drama! The human MC doesn’t bat an eyelash at the werewolf thing because he reads shifter romances like come on!

I also need my werewolf/shifter books to come with some interesting lore. If you’re not going to provide lore and world building then what is the point? Just make it a bodyguard romance! I get that this is the first in a series but it just didn’t feel fleshed out.

Also, the writing just wasn’t up to par. The dialogue was oddly formal and sometimes felt stilted. Overall just felt lacking and strange at times and could have had another run through for flow and voice.

“I’m going to taste every single freckle on your body. Every single one of them, Jaime.”

The night of Jamie's first date with Finn, he witnesses a murder... He's stuffed in a closet while Finn's sittin at the restaurant, heartbroken. 😭 A year after no contact, Finn's security team is hired to keep him safe for the upcoming trial..
You know what that means!? Delicious forced proximity with nothin to do but swap spit n touch peepees.

My heart is warm. Pickle is tickled. I loved this so much. The way Finn was always half-shifted around Jamie so his wolfy could spend time with him too. 🥺 How unique! I've always thought how sad it was that the wolves only get attention n belly scratches when shit hits the fan.
This was fun. I can't wait for Silas and Sam's book. A stalker and a crazy alpha uncle? Juicy.

“I wish you could see your pretty pink hole, Jaime. See the way it sucks the biggest plug right back inside—so needy for a fat cock, hmm? But it’s not enough, is it… You need more. You need my fat cock stuffing you full, yeah? My knot? Do you need your mate inside of you?”
Shewww weee.

No cheating,sharing/om.

P.S.
Y'all need to check out the author's Instagram. Their art for Finn and Jamie is adorable. Finn's ears and wee teef 🥺

dnf at 75% 😬

I tried to soldier on, I truly did.

If had to sum up this book in one (or two?) words, it would be insta-love. And that is just not my jam (tied as my least favourite trope alongside accidental pregnancy). I am not well-versed in the shifter romance world (I know it's popular on AOOO), so I don't know if insta-love is common in these types of stories due to the leads often being fated mates. But even if it's 'fate' to end up together, I still want to see relationship development happen on-page (you know... getting to know one another, feeling the connection grow, a bit of pining, etc).

Maybe I am destined to compare every wolfie love story I read to TJ Klune, who managed this balance in Wolfsong. Even though his leads were fated, you still got to go along for the ride... each page was overflowing with the friendship, the bond, the found family/pack, the longing glances, the jealousy, the delicious slow burn.

However, in Under the Lupine Moon, those boys were declaring their undying love for one another as practical strangers. In fact, before they'd even met they were obsessed with each other, based on some texts and a phone call? None of it felt earned.

Unrelated... I couldn't deal with the descriptions of Finn in his half-shifted form during intimate scenes. He would have his normal face but with canines and wolf ears. And the wolf ears part just made me laugh so hard. They are described as soft and fluffy like a dog, flopping against his head, and I couldn't stop picturing a really bad Halloween costume.

There are no words to describe how much I enjoyed reading this book! 🥰

I'd wanted to read it for a very long time, but as usual, I'd forgotten the tropes and went in a bit blind... Lucky for me, because there were several tropes that I'm a bit less fond of normally, and if I'd remembered them, I'd surely have put off my reading any longer and missed out on this gem! All the things I usually like less all worked perfectly for me, thanks to the author's talent. She’s probably going to be stuck with me forever, because now it's clear I'm going to want to read all her books! I'm already looking forward to the next one, and I have to read the novella very soon...

I obviously loved Finn and Jaime, they were so cute and perfect together! 🫠

I know I've got a little bit of story left to read with them in By The Blood Moon, but I could easily have picked up several more books featuring these two. Although now that I think about it, we'll probably be seeing them again in the other books, yayyyy 🥳 and now I'm super excited again for what's to come! 😍

It was my last book of the year and I couldn't be happier with my choice, because it's also one of my favorite reads of 2024! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I recommend it to everyone, and especially to those who like paranormal shifter romances. For me, it's on a par with Matehub:Legend, these two novels are my favorites ever in this genre 😊

I apologize in advance to all those who are going to have to hear me talk about this book very often, because that's what I do when I really love a story, and I adore this one enormously!

This book owns a piece of my heart now. 💜💜💜💜💜

The people in this book converse the same way, there's nothing that could differentiate all of them well except the dialog tag of course,
There isn't a distinctive character when they're all speak the same way.
I just wished it wasn't focuses too much on the sex and more on the plot.
I also find the writing a bit tedious,
I think the author has potential to be a great writer, there are some some vulnerable moments that the author managed to capture but this book just wasn't it,
It doesn't help that this was a very predictable story.

Oh my goodness, Under the Lupine Moon is SUCH a sweet story! I was SO excited to read the ARC of A. Knightley's debut, and y'all, it did not disappoint. It's got all my favorite things - gay werewolves, fated mates, ALL the pining, so much caretaking, and WHEW some hot spice. I loved the romantic suspense angle, and I am so excited to read more in this world!

Jamie and Finn have been chatting for a while and are all set for their first date - until Jamie stands him up. Finn is understandably disappointed, as he felt like he and Jamie could have been something more. Months later, Finn, who works for a small security company, finds out that Jamie is the lead witness to a brutal murder committed on the day of their date. His company has been hired to protect Jamie leading up to the trial, and as soon as half werewolf Finn sees Jamie again he feels that intense chemistry again. He suspects that Jamie could be his mate - but does Jamie feel the same way? And, even with Finn's protection, is he truly safe?

Oh my goodness y'all, I just loved this kind of missed connection/second chance romance plot - it was very fun, and made for an excellent excuse for some INTENSE mutual pining. Though the setup makes the story feel like a slow burn, as soon as Jamie and Finn realize that their feelings are reciprocated things heat up REALLY fast. Y'all these guys are SO freaking sweet, I just loved them together. Lots of caretaking (food as a love language y'all), lots of communication (once they are together), and some pretty funny conversations surrounding Jamie's love of romance novels and how to deal with Finn's knot. I was *dead*.

I'm really excited to see where the pack warfare plot goes, as Under the Lupine Moon is just the start of things. I already love all of the side characters, and I'm VERY excited to read Sam and Silas's book next! I was so impressed by A. Knightley's writing, a solid debut that definitely made me want more.

This book was super cute, wholesome but it also dealt with heavy themes like PTSD, anxiety and low self-esteem. Finn is the most adorable wolf shifter, protective and caring but also a bit damaged by his pos mum who tried to repress his wolf. Jaime is just a sweet baby who has suffered a very traumatic event and is just trying to not feel broken all the time. Together they are so precious, so careful with one another and so gentle, my heart couldn't take the wholesomeness. Also, consent kings both of them. I liked that even when Jaime had never been intimate with another man, it wasn't a big fuss and the awful v-word was never used. The intimacy was hot and sweet and HOT (knot, just saying).
The secondary characters was interesting. Sam and Silas 👀
There's a murder mystery-action subplot mixed in with evil pack shenanigans. Can't wait to read the next ☺️

4.5 ⭐️Jaime and Finn were the most adorable, this whole story was sweet and swoony and spicy hot with just the right amount of angst, no drama. The terrible circumstances that destroy these mates’s first chance to fall in love were devastating to read, specially the impact that had on Jaime. But the author handled the storytelling beautifully, phenomenal pacing, enough time for characters to grow and evolve, while the secondary suspense and mystery plot and pack dynamics is overlayed wonderfully. The possessiveness and pining and protectiveness add a wonderful tone to the slow burn and kept me hooked and invested. I loved Finn, he is equally awkward and fantastically dominant. I can’t wait go start Sam and Silas’s book next. It’s coming out on 8th April

Expect:
* Second chances
* Fated mates
* Biting and Knotting
* Slow burn to inferno
* Dabbling in kink
* Found family
* Pack hierarchy
* Size difference
* Half shifted s3x
* Wolf (and other) Shifters
* Wolf Shifter x Human

A beautiful debut!

Jaime is ready to meet Finn for their first date. When things go sideways, Jaime’s world is flipped upside down while Finn feels rejected.

A year later they get a chance to reconnect and Finn realises that things were much different than they appeared.

I loved the mystery aspect of the book and all the things that we get to learn as we see Jaime and Finn fall in love.

The characters were beautiful souls! Jaime was a little broken and adorable while Finn was protective and caring and just…everything! He is also a wolf shifter which is always a plus!

The writing was captivating and the book gives you all the feels! The connection between the two characters was palpable and they were so well suited for each other!

This review isn’t really giving it justice as I can’t gather my thoughts enough to explain!🥹

Absolutely loved this. Blown away that it's a debut! It was so sweet and swoony, I wanted to kick my legs and squeal in delight at some parts.

I'm new to the shifter world, and oh my, the scenting? More of that, please. All the growly wolfy moments got me. Yes, yes, yes.

Great plot, fun, well developed characters, and the spice was spicing. Honestly, a wonderful book.

I'm ready for the next.

Well… it’s definitely high heat.

Unfortunately, the second half (the payoff) wasn’t as good as the first half (the build up).

Let me start off by saying I’m the target demographic for this book. I go absolutely crazy for possessive, touch-starved, scent-hungry shifters (or monster-adjacent creatures in general). And this book had that IN SPADES. Finn practically salivates over Jaime in the first 50% and it’s hot as hell🥵 So you can imagine by disappointment at the fact that when they finally got together it was just… ok. The sex scenes were still hot and plentiful and varied but I wasn’t in favour of some word choices. Nothing egregious but personal preferences didn’t align. 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 for being hot and plentiful.

Of course it also didn’t help that the mystery plot was basically shelved once they got together. I wasn’t expecting hard hitting investigative work but everything falling into place so quickly?? Not satisfying at all.

The writing in the second half also wasn’t as tight. I don’t know if more attention was devoted to the sex scenes but the dialogue wasn’t crisp and the sentence structure could’ve used some variety.

That being said, this book did exactly what it said on the label and for that I just may check out the sequel...

4⭐️ 2.75🌶️

📝 REVIEW & THOUGHTS:

Don’t deny yourself a lifetime of happiness and companionship out of fear.

This was lovely, entertaining and fun story to read. It made my heart melt a few times. Especially in the beginning, each time he called him “baby”.

There were some small things that I appreciated, like the MC not caring that much that the other is a virgin (so no purity culture or like k!nk), Jaime’s reaction when he finds out Finn is a shifter.

All in all a solid read :)

😤 LITTLE RANT (possible spoilers):

Why did characters hiccup words during smut, while not truly having hiccups? 🤔🤣

Why did we have to wait until like 90% of the book for the knotting? 😭😭 I wanted it sooner 🤭

💬 QUOTES (possible spoilers):

Finn closed out of the string of unanswered messages and put a lid on the fragile, hopeful parts of him, his wolf now aching and howling. He stuffed the hurt down, down, down. Jaime never came, and Finn went home.

“Don’t give me that face, baby. It’s a damned weapon and I’ve done nothing to deserve it.”

Jaime would take it so well. He’d be such a good boy.

Don’t deny yourself a lifetime of happiness and companionship out of fear.

Anyway, Silas says that when I have sex in this form I’ll get a knot, and I’ll want to put it in you and it will get stuck. A knot is—” “I know what a knot is,” Jaime blurted. Now it was Finn’s turn to blink down at him, finally stunned to silence after his emotional outburst. Jaime turned bright red and didn’t continue, making Finn wonder… “Jaime, how do you know what a knot is?” He felt the side of his mouth tip up.

* Fyi about 🌶️ levels: I rate spice on a combination of quantity, quality, length, intensity and explicitness of the scenes. K!nks are listed separately and generally do not directly affect the steam level to keep it fair for non k!nky books.

What a great debut novel!
This book dealt with some very heavy topics and handled them well. Jaime had severe PTSD and frequent flashbacks and panic attacks. He did the therapy work, but still needed help sometimes, which is honestly super accurate. He was an absolute golden retriever who lacked self-confidence in a lot of ways because of his trauma, but still knew he had some worth. Finn was dealing with his own trauma from an abusive mother (all off page) and PTSD from his military service. He was able to be a safe space for Jaime and vice versa. They were an adorable couple.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: descriptions of graphic violence, gore, and murder, descriptions of being trapped in a confined space, mentions of past childhood neglect and abuse, mentions of parent death (in the past, during childhood), mentions of past pet loss, mentions of parent alcoholism (in the past, during childhood), and descriptions of struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and PTSD, home invasion

What a knockout debut by this author!

I swooned pretty hard over our growly, protective wolf-shifter and his "most beautiful man in the room" fated mate!

Listen, this book ticks some of my favorite boxes. FATED MATES? Check. Possessive, strong alpha? Check. Hurt/comfort dynamic? Check, check, check. (This was some really, really well-done hurt/comfort). And let's face it, the spice was SPICING, which was such an added bonus. Mix it all up, and I was loving this!

Security professional Finn is a wolf-shifter. "Half-shifter," to be exact, but who is keeping track- because he was PLENTY BIG AND GROWLY for my tastes. He dates, but has never met anyone whom his wolf identified as his "mate," someone who feels like home and smells like his perfect match. That is, until he meets Jaime online through a dating app. He can already tell there is something different about Jaime, something special, even though they have only talked online- and he is over the moon excited to finally meet him and find out if his instincts are correct.

When Jaime never shows up for their date, Finn believes he's been ghosted and is heartbroken. But it turns out to be something much worse. Jaime finds himself the victim of a crime and at the heart of a dangerous murder investigation, and he ends up needing Finn's protection in order to survive.

Oh my GOOD LORD. There is so much to love about Finn, but the way he just wants nothing more than to throw himself in front of everyone and anything that threatens Jaime- from the very second he first sees him- HE WAS PERFECT. He was also running quite the horny inner monologue the whole time, which cracked me up- he wants to keep Jaime safe from danger, but at the same time, he has to continually remind himself to get his mind out of the gutter.

"The poor man is probably having one of the worst days of his life, and you're wondering if he has freckles on his ass? Focus."
His wolf rumbled.
"It is a fantastically perky ass."

All of the physical protection aside, Finn is an absolute godsend when it comes to Jaime's confidence, his mental health. He has been through absolute hell because of the trauma he endured as a victim, and believes he is a burden. He feels weak and insignificant. The way Finn takes the time to not only recognize this, but slowly build Jaime up, one strong statement, one calming reassurance at a time-- it was so beautiful. Jaime is SEEN, TRULY SEEN for maybe the first time ever.

"You are not now, nor have you ever been, a burden."
His voice was a quiet rumble, and he itched to reach across the table to hold Jaime's hand.
"You are strong and resilient, and just because this hasn't been easy for you, that does not mean you are weak."

Sometimes, in stories involving a paranormal being and a human, it can feel like the "mate" distinction can be one-sided-- but here, Jaime's growing feelings for Finn were so beautiful- and so well-earned. He finds himself at "home" with Finn, and feeling cared for, feeling safe for the first time ever. They are so well-suited, such a perfect match not just physically, but in all aspects that matter.

Let's get to my favorite part... these two were ON FIRE!!!! I mean- there is so much to love about the sexy times in this one. First of all, can I just say that it absolutely made my damn day that Jaime's favorite way to pass the time is reading smut- and poor Finn has to exist in the same house as him, scenting his constant arousal- while trying to keep himself under control?? Perfection. I was giggling nonstop.

And the way that Finn is soooooo nervous to admit to Jaime that he is not human- afraid to lose him- but how when Jaime first finds out when Finn accidentally shifts into a wolf to defend him, Jaime is just..... TURNED ON? Obsessed with his fur and fangs?? I mean- *chef's kiss* right here- I just ate that up. They kind of had that "punch-drunk idiots in love" vibe happening, which really helped to lighten the serious topics of Jaime's PTSD and the threats to his safety.

Full on belly laughing now, Jaime turned into Finn's chest. Between gasps, he explained, "You're a giant, hairy wolf man. An apex predator. And you purr like a kitten."

This book was such a good time- I fell in total love with these two. They were hot- they were swoony- the plot was interesting and exciting- and we got a giant sneak peek of who our next couple will be in this series- I cannot wait for Sam and Silas!
