I received a copy of this book for free (thanks!).
I liked Nicole (trying to avoid spoilers). I liked how she went from a truly average teenager who felt no drive to someone who is willing to believe in fate and sacrifice herself for others. There is a clear turning point in her mindset and I loved how that was one of the focal points in the book.
It would have been nice to get similar insight into other characters. The dialogue felt a little bare because we don’t get to see how other characters react or deliver their lines. It was a little strange because there were some emotional lines that did not get paired with similarly emotional expressions from other characters, and as a reader I felt a little blind, so that sometimes it was a difficult to understand what motivates the soldiers and the other leaders – are they proud? Nostalgic? Ambitious? There are a good number of secondary characters in the book, and showing a little more of their emotions and motivations would have added another layer to the story.
Something to consider would be adding more history between Anelia and her sister. I liked how strong their connection was, but I would have liked to see more of it shown. Maybe Anelia’s sister could tell Anelia more about their parents some of her childhood memories?
One thing that was confusing was the tense. Sometimes the story is told in present tense, and other times it switches to past tense. I couldn’t really tell if there was a reason for these switches and it was disorienting, but I think this could be easily fixed.
A lot of the descriptions were beautiful and very vibrant. However, some of them distracted from the flow of the story. I would have liked to see some of the large descriptive paragraphs at the beginning of the scenes broken up into different parts of the scene as each detail becomes relevant for the scene and the Nicole.
Also, I enjoyed the scenes of early Earth. They were very interesting and I liked how they made the magic feel ancient and deeply rooted.
Thank you for a fresh story and an enjoyable read.
The one thing that stood out to me the most were the descriptions. Simply amazing . I was blown away by the descriptions, I could see where Nicole was, and what she was doing.
The second thing I loved was the fresh plot. I admit, there have been many fantasy novels written, and almost every idea has been used. However, this novel had magic and was magical. Almost every sentence drew me in, and I loved the world that was constructed. In fact, it reminded me a bit of Lord of the Rings. The names and places were creatively written, as well as imaginative.
Nicole was a strong heroine. She didn't give up, and pushed through all the obstacles and situations she had to endure. Although it was a bit hard to connect with her at times, she was an easily likable character. Her sister, Delancey, wasn't featured as much, but she still played a pivotal role in the novel.
I enjoyed every single second of this book, and the elaborate and enchanting world that it built. This book is highly recommended for fantasy lovers.
This is not Harry Potterish...so if you are looking for that..it's not...And thank goodness..! For me and my 13 y. o.daughter, it's so much better!!A breath of fresh air!! It has a gentle weave of Russian Folk tales and incredibly creative spirit of an American girl coming of age. It will open up a completely new world to you, with bravery and wisdom beyond your imagination. I don't want to give ANYTHING out, that's how enthralled you'll be...with an open mouth from such a wonder!!
This book is only a beginning for this amazingly talented girl!! EVERYONE MUST read it, it is not only for kids but for adults s well. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.Viktoriya!!!SPASIBO!
An amazing narrative for all ages. The author will make you travel through space and time, it's so well written that you will be catapulted in her fantasy world. Where Nicole finds her past and her true nature, and a sister that she never knew before but that has always been with her. They will find new friends that will give everything to protect them and their world and that will help them achieve their goals to bring back balance and destroy Maldelsould, a magician greedy for power that wants to control the three worlds and the nine elements.
I think that the idea of Auvreria is interesting.. I think that the Author has pretty good ideas.. I just wish that there would of been more detail in the descriptions to get a better picture of what is going on.. I felt a bit lost on how she would be in one spot and suddenly in another location.. if the Author would of spent more time explaining more and painting a clearer picture it would of helped. =)
I enjoyed reading Auvreria. The plot and characters were interesting. I would say this book is better suited for a younger crowd like elementary and middle school age. The transitions were pretty quick without a huge amount of detail which will make it a fun and fast-paced read for children. This a very fast read for adults. The author did a wonderful job with her first book and i will be interested to see what comes next.
Ok, so I didn't make it very far in this book. Only a few pages before I stopped reading. Why? 1) While I like fantasy, this one looked like it was going to have too much mysticism for my liking, and 2) I just found the tone of the writing to be rather flat and boring. Sorry, maybe it gets better as I know I quit right at the beginning, but the writing was just not grabbing me.
It was fun to read the book. Lanscape descriptions and transitions between worlds are impressive. However, seems like everybody can speak inside Anelia's mind. That's awkward :) I liked the reading and recommend it to everybody who likes fantasy, advanture and first person perspective.
The concept of the story was unique, however the execution wasn't the best. The writing was very choppy. There was no character building and people seemed to change from one side to another within minutes. There wasn't a lot of description and things weren't explained very well.
The descriptions of the setting were good, but I felt there could've been more to this story. It was a quick read and perhaps it's better for middle-schoolers.
