I should have liked this more than I did based on the premise!

The hero thinks a lot of himself and does a lot of smirking. He ditches the heroine pretty much every time after they have sex 'cause he doesn't sleep with women. Yawn.

The heroine gets huffy for all of about two minutes then has sex with him again. She's also a little overly impressed with his billionaire trappings. Plus I don't recall her ever calling him a silver fox, but that could be the Cabernet! ha

Advise skipping this.

Too many errors: first Katie hasn’t seen her ex in two years, then when Adam says they haven’t seen each other in three years( should be two), then Adam’s son was five when he first met Katie, now ‘three years later’ the son is in preschool??? Things just don’t make sense. Then they go to the doctor’s office for the ultrasound and he is wearing a beautiful suit’, but when they get back to her place after the appointment, he is wearing jeans? What?
This story isn’t about adults, because adults don’t act the way Katie and Adam act, although, Adam was a bit more mature than Katie. Katie acts like a fourteen year old.
Not sure this book is worth the time.

Note to the author: Please get some continuity readers. Please. This could have been SO good but the mistakes ruined it for me because it pulls me out of the story abruptly and after the 3rd or 4th woosh moment, I'm done. I don't want to put more effort into figuring out the mystery here because this isn't supposed to BE a suspense. I shouldn't have to do mental gymnastics to figure out obvious holes.

How old is Colin? Prologue, he's 5. Chapter 1 says 2 years later under the title but MCs say they met 3 years ago (from the prologue) SEE? I'm already frustrated. Then they talk about Colin being in preschool and having nap time in present day. Did he Benjamin Button? He would have already been in kindergarten in the prologue AND SHES A TEACHER so the research into his grade would have literally been hand in hand with researching her career. So not only am I confused about how well you understand children, now I'm questioning if you understand how teaching and schools work. And all evidence points to no.

Now for the relationship.

MMC treats FMC like she is a toy he saw his brother playing with and stole it when his back was turned. Did she want to be stolen? Maybe. But it's still not sweet or romantic that he keeps making comments that if you replaced the word "Katie" with "nerf gun", it would still make sense. Basically any possession that the brother had and the MMC was able to steal from him and wave it under his nose. Not because he wanted the possession. No, he makes it pretty clear that she's just there for show and he craves her picking him for the satisfaction of pissing off his brother, nothing more.

I have read many books with this exact setup lately. It was a challenge I set for fun. And this is one of the worst. The continuity was bad and the setup for the relationship was honestly the most off-putting. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to read his POV if he could just have some redeemable qualities but even his thoughts reinforce the childish jealousy he has with his brother. At least he could be vulnerable with himself and say something but truly you get inside his head and quickly realize the shit he's spewing is honestly how he sees her. Refreshing that he's honest but... not romantic.

Ok but hard to get through

character Katie is terrible and super underdeveloped. Insecure and angry she doesn't grow. The story is hard to read , this reads as a 1st draft that was never edited or developed

Katie and Adam met years before at a party. His younger brother was dating her at the time. He never treated her right. Heck, he cheated on her with her best friend. Some friend.

Flash Forward two years later, and Katie's ex is now marrying her ex best friend. Adam is leery of any relationship. But ever since he met Katie two years ago, he can't get her out of his mind. He comes up with the brilliant idea to bring her to his brother's wedding as his date. It's a way to make his brother jealous, and to get to know Katie better.

They are great together, but there is always that lingering feeling that he might be cheating. Adam's brother doesn't help any. I loved the way they fell for each other, but I also hated how Katie let her insecurities get the better of her.

This book is a steamy read with a beautiful HEA. And twins to boot!.

There were a lot of confusing moments in this book. When the characters first met, the MMC’s son was five years old but years later he's in preschool. When the characters meet again it is two years later but then one of the characters says it's three years later. And in the first doctor's appointment after the FMC finds out she is pregnant, where she is like two months along, they find out it is twins and they talk about her having a bump. Plus the characters being so hot and cold in what they're feeling or what they wanted was annoying.

The plot has huge inconsistencies which really bugged me. The MMC has a kid who is 5 at the beginning of the story. Then, years pass by and suddenly the kid is in preschool when he should be 7 or 8 years old. It also always bugs me when they go in for the first ultrasound and it’s done on the stomach. Most first ultrasounds are internal ultrasounds but that’s just too awkward to write about I guess. Idk this book was meh.

I couldn’t get past the timeline issues. They met two years ago when the MMC’s son was 5. In present day, they take him to preschool and act like he’s a baby. The kid should be in at least 2nd grade by now. Probably a stupid thing to focus on, but it really bugged me.

Can't Fake Twins, part of the Single Dad Billionaires series was about Katie Martin, an elementary school teacher, and Adam Lanphier, the owner of Lanphier Airlines. (The author didn't provide the ages of either character. All the reader knew was that Katie was a teacher, so she was in her mid-twenties, and Adam, the oldest of the two brothers, was a "silver fox", which would put him in his late thirties to early forties.)

Katie had been dating Adam's brother for several months when he took her to meet his family for the first time. Toby had never gotten along with his brother and told Katie many bad things about him, thus planting distrust in her before she met him. However, their first meeting stuck with them. A year after they had been dating, Katie returned home early from school one day and caught Tobie having sex with her BFF. She broke it off immediately.

Two years later, Katie was drinking with her friends at a bar when she ran into Adam again. After they talked for a bit, Adam informed her that his brother was getting married to her former BFF whom he'd cheated on her with, and he asked if she would be his date for the wedding. He said it would be their revenge against the couple. While she left the bar without giving him an answer, she eventually agreed. It was while they were at the wedding that things got intimate between the two, but then he left her without a word the following morning.

This story had so much angst and drama that it made this reader's head spin as if watching a tennis match. The emotional rollercoaster was in full swing with so many twists and turns it was nauseating. Neither of the main characters could make up their mind about their feelings for the other, although Katie was the first to admit her feelings, at least to herself. Adam took much too long to admit how he felt about Katie. He was more wishy-washy and afraid to commit to her.

Although both characters were fully developed, they both left a lot to be desired. While it was understandable that Katie had trust issues because of how her ex treated her in the past, she treated Adam poorly because of it. But Adam was no better. While he later stated that he had fallen in love with her at first sight, he treated her like crap for 90% of the story. It wasn't until something happened to her that he finally owned up to his feelings. They both had a lot of growing up to do, but the author never allowed them to do it on a page. The reader had to accept them for what they were, but even that wasn't good enough.

There was so much going on during this book that it felt like the author used it as an information dump. But it was a good story. It was just very repetitive and it had a lot of grammatical and punctuation errors that douse the story quite a bit.

It was a good story. It just needed more editing and tweaking to be a better book. Because of that, I couldn't give it more than a three-star rating. It just didn't earn it.

Long Journey Into Love . . .

When elementary school teacher Kate Martin first met Toby’s family, he made it obvious how he felt about both his older brother and Adam’s “hellion kid” Colin. Toby was very irritable and didn’t seem to want her to meet his family at all. He totally ignored all of the kids. And he walked away from Kate into a room where she found him playing poker and drinking scotch with his uncles, leaving her alone with the rest of his family she didn’t even know. She wandered into the kitchen and saw a gorgeous man gently correcting his son for an issue with his cousins. He introduced himself but scoffed when she asked if he was related to Toby. A cousin maybe? He wouldn’t say. Then Toby bellowed for her in the living room, and was angry that she had gone to get a beer when he told her not to drink. Then he disappeared again. She spotted him in the kitchen, arguing with Adam, then grabbed her arm and to head home. He was angry when she offered to drive (he had been drinking heavily). Then he looked at his phone and said he had to go to work… but it was Christmas Eve? Angry at her for questioning him, he dropped her off at home, no goodbye kiss and not walking her to the door.

One day she got home early when class was cancelled and heard a clatter in the kitchen. She found Toby and Rachel, a “friend” of hers, bent over the counter together. So she turned and left him. A year later, at a bar with friends, she ran into Adam. He told her his brother was marrying the woman he had cheated with. And he offered her a chance to get back at him by being Adam’s fake girlfriend at the wedding. They will spend the weekend together. Knowing he doesn’t get involved in relationships, how will he react when she will soon be having his twins?

So we have Katie who evidently “can’t see the forest through the trees” and lets her heart be stomped on by her controlling ex-boyfriend with the nasty temper. Then she gets into an arrangement with his brother for a little “payback”, which boomerangs back on her when he gets her pregnant with twins… and he doesn’t “do” relationships. It was difficult to find someone worthy of cheering on! But the story is written well and will kick up the reader’s emotions. So grab your chance to find out if Adam redeems himself by the last page, or if Kate will have to “go it alone”.

Katie Martin meets single dad Adam Lanphier and his son Colin while attending the Lanphier family Christmas party with her boyfriend Toby, who is Adam’s estranged younger brother. It is an instant attraction between Katie and Adam. Toby and Adam have a long history of bad blood between them. Toby was always the family’s golden child and Adam didn’t compare in his parents’ eyes. When the parents died, the family fortune was divided between the two brothers. Toby squandered his half of the inheritance away in less than a year. Adam wisely used his half to invest in an airline, which became quite profitable. Toby; however, told Katie lies about Adam when in reality, Adam had been funding Toby’s life out of a misplaced sense of responsibility for his little brother. Eventually, Toby cheats on Katie with her friend Rachael, and they break up.

The story next picks up two years after that Christmas party and Katie is still bitter about her breakup with Toby. Adam and Katie see each other in a bar, and after a rocky start, they make a deal to begin a fake dating relationship for a weekend to attend Toby and Rachael’s wedding together. The rest of the story follows their tumultuous relationship and their road to a possible HEA.

Overall, I really liked this book. It was an emotional story that brought up the character’s pasts, their hurts, and their regrets. Adam has issues to resolve regarding his commitment phobia. Katie has issues about trust. I enjoyed the characters and getting to know more about them. I especially loved precocious Colin, Adam’s son. The characters had real depth to them, and although the story was a rollercoaster of emotions sometimes, it’s all in context. There was a sprinkling of sexy moments throughout. I would recommend this book for those that like to read about grumpy and sunshine relationships, fake to real relationships, and surprise pregnancies.

Can't Fake Twins is a standalone romance by Mia Mara and is part of the Single Dad Billionaires collection. Mia Mara is a new to me author and didn't know what to expect, yet, for some reason a getting with the ex's older brother was the type of trope that I felt like reading.

The book starts with Katie Martin. Opening with the start and the end of her relationship that ended in cheating, we then dive into the story when Katie by chance meets up with her ex's sexy older brother, Adam. They had met briefly once before, but she has heard so many stories of how Adam is a terrible brother and person from her ex. But things are different now.

Their relationship starts off as a proposal for something fake. Adam just wants some petty revenge on his materialistic (and narcissistic) brother at his brother's wedding, which incidentally he is marrying his affair partner. Katie is all up for some petty revenge. However, being together things start to take a more physical and romantic direction. So much so that Katie becomes pregnant with twins. Now, these two need to work on their relationship, or they need to decide to work on coparenting.

One thing that frustrated me, but was so happy that was properly addressed in the book was Katie's continual thinking the worst of anything that Adam did. She sorted of trusts him, is having twins with him, but she still hold emotional trauma from her relationship with Adam's brother that she nearly destroys what she and Adam could have together.

This was a well paced romance with a satisfying ending.

A couple of years ago, Katie was dating Toby. He was taking her home to meet his family at their Christmas party. She didn't know much about them but Toby kept complaining that his brother Adam stole his inheritance. After they arrived, Toby abandons her with his relatives while he goes to drink and smoke with his male relatives. When Katie sees a sexy silver fox walk through carrying a boy, she feels an immediate attraction. She finds herself flirting with him until Toby comes in to drag her away. The silver fox is Adam.

Fast forward a couple of years, Toby and Katie have broken up because Katie caught him cheating with her friend. Katie is heartbroken and isn't interested in a relationship again. She and her friend are at a bar when she runs into Adam again. They get to talking and she asks him the truth about Toby and the inheritance. She learns that Toby spent his whole share in just a few months. Adam is even paying for Toby's wedding to her ex-friend. Adam has a proposition for Katie. He will pay her to be his date for the wedding and they can both get their revenge on Toby. Over the weekend their passion gets the best of them and they have a passionate night. However Adam doesn't want a relationship and disappears leaving Katie alone. A few weeks go by and he can't get Katie out of his head.

Katie and Adam meet at a party and make a connection, only thing is she is his younger spoiled brother's girlfriend. A few years later they run into one another and the connection is still there, she has since broken up with her cheating, lying ex, but still remembers all the bad things that his brother told her about him, so she is skeptical. Adam propositions her to attend her exe's wedding to her ex BFF that he cheated on with her. This is strictly a fake date as they both want to get back at him. At the wedding weekend event they both have a great time and she makes a connection with his young son. At the end of the weekend they both realize they have feelings for one another.
This couple had chemistry and I liked them both, I loved how great Katie was with his son as well, but Adam doesn't do relationships as he has never really had one. These two try to muddle through anyway until Katie has doubts about Adam and believes all the bad thing her ex told her about him, even though she know he is the better brother, she was really annoying with all the doubts she had about him and I couldn't believe after everything her ex put her through she believed him rather than Adam about what was the truth.
Overall, a good read about a rich single dad who is a good guy.

Katie and Adam

She was his brother’s girlfriend 2 years ago and he’s a billionaire, single dad, and airline owner. They instantly sparked 2 years ago when they met but she was dating his brother and nothing happened. She breaks up with the brother because she catches him cheating on her.

2 years later they meet up again and her old boyfriend is marrying the girl he cheated on her with. They both want to tick him off so they pretend to be dating and go to the wedding together. They have lots of unprotected sex… though she’s on the pill. He just ups and leaves though with no goodbye. She thought they made a connection and is upset. He doesn’t do relationships but he can’t get her off his mind. They bump into each other two months later and start having sex again. She finds out and tells him right away…pregnant… with twins. Lots of him denying his feelings and her getting upset and pushing him away.

He is excited - he loves kids but he’s still hesitant about a relationship. Big and pregnant she’s on bed rest and then she’s in labor - almost dying from loss of blood he is finally able to profess his love.

Hea proposal and wedding- pregnant from honeymoon

Got to 51% from attending to rage read this
The idea and plot that was in the little blurb wasn’t too bad
But the execution was awful.
First Katie is like a solid 16 year old teenager falling in love because of…him treating her well for 48 hours? Like BFFR
Sorry insta love is just such an ICK like it’s so cringe it’s giving when your in middle school and think your crush will be your husband

SAYING YOU LOVE A MAN WHOS FKED YOU TWICE AND LEFT BOTH TIMES !?!?!!! Yall be weak in the knees

Tobys character was bad and an obvious cheater; so miss Katie girl why did you belive him when he said that his brother stole his inheritance?? Like both times she brought that up I internally di ed
Colin’s age is confusing bc how tf was he 5 for 3 years straight? Like Botox ain’t that good
And he remembered Katie and said he wanted her to be his mom….kids have the brain of worm so that part was just weird.

The author should have had the two main character see each other in between with family functions bc Katie was still so loved by everyone so then it makes sense how they fell in love and Colin knew Katie.

Adam and Katie: A disaster waiting to happen.

This could have had much potential. I am usually generous with my ratings cos I want to help authors get their books achieve more exposure with high ratings. This one however was a struggle for me to even finish reading!

First, the timeline is confusing. I had to backtrack Colin's age cos it seem he was 5 at one time, then became 7, then back to pre school age.

Next, Adam clearly had no desire to pursue a relationship with Katie. Katie was pathetic and easily impressed with Adam's status. Even after being dumped by Adam, she was all cry-baby and showed no backbone because she kept on accepting Adam back. Also, while Adam's favourite past time is smirking, Katie's is crying. Plenty of steam but short on romance. Adam even thought it's OK to use Katie as revenge on Toby since Toby stole his girlfriend way back when. I lost my respect for Adam at this point, no matter that he is the more redeeming of the 2 main characters.

This book feels like a first draft that missed the proofreaders desk. Well, back to the drawing board I guess.

Can't Fake Twins is a steamy, instalove, OTT, grumpy-sunshine, age-gap, unplanned pregnancy, single dad, fake relationship turns real romance. Katie is a young teacher. Adam is a hunky, grumpy single dad and billionaire. He is also the older brother of her ex. When the two first meet at a family Christmas a few years ago, they are drawn to each other, but she is with his estranged brother, Toby, at the time. Fast forward a few years, and they see each other at a club. The attraction is still there, and Adam asks her to be his date to Toby's wedding. She agrees to the same and they spend a passionate weekend together. But what happens when real feelings are involved? This couple had amazing chemistry, but the hot and cold of Adam and the testing by Katie got on my nerves at times. However, once the drama is resolved, we got a very happy ending. I loved it!.

This was just one eye roll after another. There were glaring continuity errors for one thing. The female main character was a tad underdeveloped compared to Adam, the main male character. Katie was cheated on by Adam's younger brother in a pretty obvious way. Fast forward 2 or 3 years (pick one) and Adam runs into Katie and wants her to pose as his girlfriend at the wedding of ..... you guessed it.....Katie's ex and Adams hated brother Toby. There winds up being an unexpected pregnancy (it's right there in the title so not a spoiler) but first we have to go through some pointless hot/cold behavior. You know what's going to happen and frankly it was a slog to get there. I still don't understand why the brothers hated each other so intensely but Adam still gave money to Toby like it's water. Too many inconsistencies and it needed a good polish before publishing.

I really enjoyed this book, I thought the story was brilliant. What starts out as revenge sure doesn’t end that way. Katie’s ex boyfriend was cheating with her best friend and Katie just couldn’t believe it. Then she hears they are getting married so his brother Adam suggests they go together and fake a relationship to get revenge on Toby. He wasn’t a very nice guy and treated Katie not aswell as he should. I knew that Katie and Adam would start a relationship of some sort but I didn’t expect it to go the way it had. Total trust issues the pair of them and it effects the course of the relationship fake or otherwise. Great book recommend.

When Katie and Adam first meet, Katie is in a relationship with his younger brother Toby. Toby and Adam don’t have a great relationship even though Adam has been taking care of Toby Financially. Toby and Katie’s relationship is not great, and he ends up cheating on her with her best friend. A few years later, Katie’s ex and ex-bestfriend are getting married. Adam and Katie meet again at a bar and agree to fake date for his brother's wedding. They start to develop feelings for each other but Katie can’t help her insecurities.

This is a great read.
Katie was dating Toby until he cheated on her. Now a couple of years later and her ex is getting married to the woman he cheated on her with.
When she sees Adam, her exs estranged brother, at a bar they get chatting and he asks her to be his fake date at the wedding.
They are together for the weekend and soon feelings start to change.
Will Adam want a relationship or does he run away. What will happen when she finds out that she is pregnant with twins? Can she trust another man to be faithful to her especially when her ex told her so many lies about his brother.
Great ending.

Keep Trying

I wanted to like this book but I could not get past so many errors in the story. The next day is now months later, didn’t know how he feels from one moment but in love the next, friend doesn’t date but gives him dating advice on live in the next sentence. It is hard to put yourself out there I get that so tag me in the next one and I’ll try it again!! I love reading but I don’t write so give yourself a high five for that but go back and re read and make believable changes . Sorry I wanted to finish it but it was just too hard to keep going.

Katie met Adam when she was dating his brother. Now years later she isn't seeing his brother anymore and runs into Adam. He tells her that her ex is getting married and asks her to be his date. Its not long after they start their pretend relationship that things get very real between them. Will this turn into more than either expected?

This is a great story that will hook you in the first chapter. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

not what I was expecting

I ended up skimming the last 40% - the male lead Adam was emotionally immature and wasn’t sure he wanted to be with Katie… while I’m sure that happens a lot in real life it made me completely uninterested in them ending up together.

Also the description mentioned him calling her Bambi. Not once in the book (search results only showed it in the summary). He was called a silver fox only once (and not by the female lead Katie). The line in the description about him not being sure he was ready for a relationship is the most accurate part.

Can't Fake Twins~ Singal Dads Billionaires #1 by Mia Mara.
Mia Mara is a new author to me, the blurb for this book caught my eye. Not sure if I would like this author's writing style, however, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
The characters were wonderful, signal dad Adam and Katie, the ex-girlfriend to Adam's younger brother, Toby.
It has been written we'll, a few ups and down, as in real life!
Steamy in places, but a good read. I do recommend this book to all.

This story was better than the first. There was still some back-n-forth, this time on both sides, but it wasn't as bad as the first book. Plus, the timeline of this book was much better, more cohesive. When there was a time jump, there were a few, it was stated at the beginning of the chapter. I also like this couple more than the first. Colin was a great addition to the cast. He brought levity and love when the MCs were being ninnies.
