From USA Today bestselling author Layla Frost… You know the deal by now. Fated mates. Nefarious baddies. Grumpy-sunshine. And all the spicy tension.
I’d been called a lot of things.
Cold.
Cynical.
Jaded.
An antisocial basta—
You get the point.
I’d say it came with being an overworked doctor, but that wasn’t the case. In my own personal purgatory, I’d lost touch with what I was meant to do—who I was.
Until I got stuck in a hospital elevator with a beautiful, broken woman. Comforting her through hell reminded me why I'd become a doctor in the first place.
I had no clue why, but the hippie goddess consumed my thoughts. I was obsessed. From the first touch, I knew I wasn’t going to let her go.
And that was before I got my memories back.
At the best of times, I was crap at relationships—and we were far from the best of times.
Thrust into a war I’d forgotten, I had to find a way to explain that we were targets of the soul stealing organization that’d cursed me.
That magicks, fate, Heaven, and Hell were not just tales.
That she was my mate.
The literal other half of my soul.
Unequivocally mine.
This series is meant to be read in order. Broken picks up where Stoned left off, so start at the beginning and enjoy the hot... magicks.
Growing up, Layla Frost used to hide under her blanket with a flashlight to read the Sweet Valley High books she pilfered from her older sister. It wasn’t long before she was reading hidden Harlequins during class at school. This snowballed into pulling all-nighters after the promise of “just one more chapter”.
Her love of reading, especially the romance genre, took root early and has grown immeasurably until it was time to write her own stories.
When she's not writing, Layla Frost is an insomniac with a deep love of iced coffee, tchotchkes, plants, and her hens. She's also the world's okayest mom, but her kids think she's cool... ish.
Oh man, my heart! How an author can combine a fun plot, with such good character humor, while also having such sad heartbreaking emotional moments all in one story, and then make it work together? Well...that's magicks.
I'm so happy to see this series continue and to see the characters from books one and two. I love them all. I want to hang out with these characters. I adore their humor and friendship and their love.
The sad and heartbreaking part of the book is something I have recently been through and it was hard to read. It was a good reminder to keep close all the wonderful memories I have and never let them go.
The Four is on the move again and I’ve been DYING to get my hands on the next addition, Broken. Now that I have, I’m absolutely spent from the wild ride I’ve been on. Lennon and Lilith were amazing and more than I ever expected, although I should know better because this author always delivers. And holy heck did she deliver this time. From the first pages I was consumed with this smexy, angsty, and thrilling story. The twists and turns and all the goodness that was in Styx and Stoned was here as well, with the promise of more to come. I’m totally down for it all and now I’m dying again.
This is not a stand alone. The previous books in The Four series must be read in order. First Styx and then Stoned.

I'm going to try and encompass how Lennon and Lilith's story made me feel but I'm pretty sure I'm going to fall short. These two clicked from the moment they met again as adults. Stuck in an elevator for a bit might have been the hallmark of a romcom but not a paranormal, prevent the apocalypse, fated mates story. That is what I love about this author, she brings the funny, the slightly absurd and combines it with the realities of life and the beauty of true love. I laughed, I cried, I cheered the Four on! Lilith is a stealth baddie, which I adored! She kept surprising me in the best ways. Lennon truly comes alive as he spends more and more time with his girl. They mesh more and more of themselves together and become an amazingly strong couple! Just glorious!
This was my least favorite in the series. It took me over two months to finish, which says a lot since I usually read a book in a few days to a week. If it takes longer, it’s a sign I’m not enjoying it. I pushed through because I liked the series so far and plan to read the final book since I’ve already invested time.
I think the main reason it dragged for me was a predictable moment early on—I knew it was coming, knew it would make me sad, and wasn’t eager to deal with it. Beyond that, the story felt slow. With multiple characters and intertwining plots, it became a bit overwhelming to keep track of everything.
Oh my God this book was so good! I could not put this down. Let me start off by saying this is not a standalone, you need to read the first two books in this series, Styx and Stoned in that order. Trust me, you don’t want to miss these books. I’m just going to let you know how this book made me feel because I don’t wanna give anything away. Lilith and Lennon were everything! I absolutely loved their chemistry from the minute they met. I loved Lilith’s spirit. I want her to be my new best friend. Lennon was her perfect match. I loved all the characters, I loved the storyline, and I so did not want this to end. I need the fourth book now!
Well..... this title is super on point as right now I feel a little broken. The feels this story has pulled out, I can't even describe where my head is right now, as I sit here with tears still streaming down my face and a tissue box on hand. I loved this world that Layla Frost created. Always one to give us laughs, great drama, an OTT alpha that makes your heart patter just a bit faster and your cheeks blush, and naughty bits that are explosive. This series gives us a bit different from her other stuff though, channel Sam and Dean Winchester, I'm loving this side of Layla Frost and will be first in line for whatever she wants to write! Start with Styx first as these literally flow from one to the next. 5 huge gold stars, lord knows you deserve more for the heart that you put into this story!
Holy crap was this story unbelievably good! I couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down!! I loved Lennon and Lilith (LilyJ. There was an instant connection between them. Please note you have to read the previous two books to understand what’s going on and what’s to happen. So if you haven’t, what are you waiting on?? This story just sucks you in and you feel all the emotions, including tears!! OMG…. I still love Levi and want a book for him. But now I want one for Levi’s brother…. I can’t wait for the next book!!
Argh! This book is finally here! I have been waiting for this series to continue and let me tell you it did not disappoint!
It is fabulous! Lennon and Lilith (lily) what can I say I freaking loved their relationship. And to go back to Juno and Stellan and Denny and Nate was all I could have asked for. I laughed, I cried and I laughed some more. I am in love and cannot wait for the next book in the series! Fantastic job Layla 👏
This latest installment of The Four: Broken is everything we have been waiting for and more. Frost left us on the edge of our seats after Stoned and she didn't disappoint with book three!
Broken sucks us in right from the start. This stellar story is filled with entrigue, mystery, romance, emotional turmoil, a badass FMC who doesn't take any shit from anybody and a possessive, compassionate MMC who will do anything to protect his soulmate.
Frost really outdid herself with this one. It will be sure to pull on your heartstrings and leave you begging for more.
Flippin' LOVE this series...love this book. I have inhaled the 3 available books in 3 days...and now I must wait for the final. SO Worth it!
I LOVE tha even though this isn't contemporary romance and isn't the "usual" Layla Frost stories I'm used it, it still absolutely has her voice and personality shining through. Her humor and pop culture references are always some of my favorites.
I LOVE that we get a new couple with each book but everyone else from books prior comes along into the story...the overarching storyline and battle moves forward.
Flippin' love the Forward in this book. Made me laugh, was totally Juno, but also Layla. Great way to recap for anyone who maybe read books 1 and 2 awhile ago and needed a refresher.
My favorite scene tho didn't happen til near the end. It was a hard scene for the FMC (and truthfully the MMC too) and for this reader is hit SO close to home and got me in all my feels. But it was HOW Layla wrote the scene and handled the heavy...it clearly showed she also had lived experience with the topic/scene. And I loved her all the more for it. I don't give spoilers, but watch for around 89%...
I am leaving this book anxious and excited for book 4. But also, these will be added to my Layla collection as books I own in every format available and will reread often...and hope listen to often as well when they make it to audio.
This review doesn't give this book or series all the credit and excitement I want...because I truly don't believe in spoilers or recaps, I will just say READ the books, you will have zero regrets. 🩵💜
4.5 Stars! I have been waiting so long for the next installment in this series, and it did not disappoint! Layla absolutely wrote her butt off with Broken, and I devoured every bit of it.
Summary: Lennon Gwyn has lost himself. He's forgotten his purpose and lost touch with the passion that prompted him to become a doctor in the first place. Lennon was no stranger to being called cold, cynical and antisocial. He agreed since he had been feeling like he was living, but not truly living. But that changes with one chance elevator encounter. Something about being the one to comfort Lilith Alexander through a difficult time woke him up to who he is and what he was meant to do. It also reminded him of who Lilith is to him. But with his memories restored and thrust into a war he forgot he was fighting, how does Lennon explain to the beautiful, broken woman he’s become obsessed with that magicks, heaven, hell, and everything in between is very much not a made-up tale? Mostly, though, how does he tell her that they are soulmates, and the world is depending on them to defeat the evil that is even now, stalking them?
Broken is everything I didn’t know I wanted. I didn’t want to put it down, and I kept hoping more words would “poof” onto the page as I neared the end. I fell in love with this world reading Styx, and that love has only grown as we find each one of The Four. Our heroine, Lilith, was a huge surprise in all the best ways. She was kind, sweet, loyal, smart, and extremely talented. But she was more, too. There was a twist to her character development that I didn’t see coming at all. I think my mouth was hanging open for 15 minutes while I processed just how bad a$$ she was. It was fantastic! Lennon was also a surprise, but more so because I wasn’t sure what to expect from his character. While his role isn't any less important than Nate’s or Juno’s, I do feel he’s not as well-known or talked about as them, so he was a bit of a mystery for me. He had the requisite protective and possessive personality that I love so much, but he was a little colder and detached than the others. That said, it was a fundamental part of his character development, in my opinion. While the other two couples needed their other halves, Lennon was the first to actually need Lilith in order to realize who he truly was. As a couple, Lennon and Lilith were perfect. I loved their meet-cute, and that they were actually meeting again. It made their connection just that little bit more tangible, seeing their interaction from the past. They were strongly independent individuals, and I appreciated that they could recognize when they went too far, and they could compromise and work through how to proceed together. Layla built the anticipation for the steamy scenes to a fever pitch, and they were hot! Maybe it was their connection or the particular type of magicks involved, but Lennon and Lilith seemed just a little more intense than the other couples. In the end, I didn’t want this book to end. I wanted more, now. Lol. To be honest, the very beginning of the story was a slow start for me. I think it was because we were jumping in blind to a brand-new set of characters, where the previous books had some crossover. I think I expected something different given Juno’s revelation at the end of Stoned, and when it didn’t happen that way, my brain kind of stuttered. That said, I quickly became fully invested in this book, and the chaos that seems to find our Horsemen and their mates. Supporting cast was fantastic and I really want to beg Layla for some novellas or spinoffs. Top of my list would be Levi. He has hinted at some things, and every time he’s on page, I just want to see him find a woman that completes him. Hannah and Finn would be a fun read, I’m sure. I’m also interested to learn more about their auras and what made them so bright. This book had me on a rollercoaster of emotion. I laughed, I bawled, I cheered, I scowled, and I gasped in surprise. The twists and turns kept me on my toes and wove The Four tighter together. There were several revelations in Broken, and we learned a bit more about what happened and the current situation, but it also sets up brilliantly for the fourth book. Layla gave us enough to keep us hooked, but jonesing for even more. I cannot wait to see how everything plays out and of course to find and get to know our fourth horseman. ♡
First a foremost, if you haven't read the first two books in The Four series, you're going to want to do that before picking up 'Broken'. While each book focuses on a different couple, they are very much intertwined and part of an overarching storyline, so do yourself a favor and just start from the beginning. It's worth it, trust me.
'Broken' starts where book two left off, trying to locate the rest of The Horsemen siblings.
"The Four Horsemen were real...and not all men. The Devil was real and not evil - even if he was kind of a snarky dick."
Whereas in the other books, The Four Horsemen either knew of their true identity or at least knew of the paranormal, the first part of this third installment has both main characters in the dark. This gave them a different dynamic which I appreciated and added a layer of complications as they struggled to understand everything that was happening around them.
Lily is loyal and above all else, kind. Her father ends up in the hospital and it is a short moment being trapped in an elevator with someone from her past that turns out to be her lifeline in a painful new reality for her family. Though she comes with a raunchy best friend, Lily is much more laid back and less sarcastic than the previous two heroines in terms of personality. As unassuming as she comes across, there is plenty of depth lurking in her character and once all her secret cards are on the table, I was delighted to see her in a brand new light.
Lennon's medical profession has weighed him down over the years. The brief childhood flashback we get of him and Lily hints at a much kinder and more open individual than he has grown up as. Once his memories come back, he struggles to become the person he needs to be and fights against bringing Lily into the likely danger. It isn't until he realizes who she truly is and sees her quiet strength that he fully accepts fate.
"A night monster. A batman badass who cared about people enough to right wrongs. Fuck she's perfect. Does this make me Robin or Alfred?"
As for Absolve, things are trending toward the inevitable end-game scenario. The Four Horsemen all have regained their memories and whatever battle is going to happen has the stage set. With the cliffhanger at the end of this book, I know book four is going to be a doozy.
Unlike the first two books in this series, I admit to being a tad bored with this one. It's hard to pinpoint the problem since 'Broken' is well-written and just as fast-paced as the others, but in the end, I think there just wasn't enough relationship drama to keep me involved in the characters. I guess compared to the previous two, Lily and Lennon are a boring couple - even when they are fighting.
Still, four stars for this book review on 'Broken' (one purely for Juno's wild antics). I am anxious to see how the next book fits in a new couple as well as the final showdown between our Four Horsemen and Absolve, but if anyone can piece together a fantastic conclusion, Layla Frost most definitely can!
Tropes and Themes: Magic, Demons, Paranormal, Fantasy, Fantasy Romance, Fated Mates, Second Chance Romance, Urban Fantasy.
I am so happy to be writing this review right now. Layla Frost is one of my favorite authors and I have missed her writing. She is one of the few authors I like that can easily do a few things.
• Suck me into their book within the first page • Build a world where I feel so immersed and almost think that is reality • Create heroines that are funny (really funny), quirky, sweet, and just super relatable • Write a super funny scene on one page and then a super steamy scene the next
I have been waiting forever for the next book to come out. I did not realize it had been as long as it had, so I did reread the first two books before starting this one. I would recommend reading the first two before reading Broken. Although it is a standalone, some stuff won’t make sense without reading the first two books.
Now, to the nitty gritty. I absolutely loved this book. Broken tells the story of our Hero (H) Lennon, a burnt-out doctor. He has been feeling stuck, and dispassionate about his calling, work, etc. While Lilith (h) is someone who is fighting a tough battle, and struggling. Their meeting sparks a fire in Lennon and boy do they burn. This book took me on an emotional ride, laughing one minute, crying the next and grabbing my hand-held fan right after. I love an author that effortlessly creates strong chemistry between the H & h and Layla Frost does an amazing job at that. Plus, I love when authors include previous characters/couples in their current books. In this book we get to catch up with the first two couples and I love how Layla includes them in the story without having them overpower Lennon and Lilith.
The world in this book is based in fantasy, so if that’s not your cup of tea I understand. But I love it and I highly recommend folks give it a try. It is not overdone and completely unbelievable.
𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 might be my favorite of The Four so far. I always felt the Supernatural vibes, but I felt it more in this book than the others. I couldn’t help but picture Crowley as Levi. Every. Single. Time. 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 also opened up in the best way with a “Previously on…” narrated by none other than my favorite witch, Juno. It was brilliant.
𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗻 felt like a different world at first. The supernatural aspect didn’t play apart immediately like in the other two, but I was here for it because we got to see the build up between Lennon and Lilith.
I absolutely loved Stellan in 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘥, but there was just something about Lennon that did it for me. He was so possessive and obsessive with Lilith, but he had to learn to hold back his desire for control because Lilith is an independent woman, y’all. Like all the relationships in this series, balance plays a critical role. Lennon needs Lilith and she needs him; they complement and balance one another beautifully.
I was not expecting that twist in the middle! It completely caught me off guard, and then I had to pause to think through previous events.
I loved all the characters and how Lennon and Lilith interacted with Juno, Stellan, Denny, and Nate. I cannot freaking wait for the next one!
One of the first books I ever read by @laylafrostauthor was Styx. I went in completely blind and ended up LOVING it. It was an incredible mix of hilarity, steam, with a mix of paranormal. Shortly after I read it, the second book in the series, Stoned, released and it was just as fabulous!
Broken is the much anticipated third book and though we waited years, it is 100% worth the wait! Layla always said she wanted to do this series justice and not force it and I’m so glad she waited until the time was right.
As we saw at the end of book two, we were set up for Nate and Juno to find their other two brothers (they’re the FOUR horsemen after all, lol—well, three dudes and their sister).
Lennon (missing brother) is a doctor who seems to have lost his emotional connection to his patients while Lilith is the photographer with a gift of connecting with her clients. Yet when they have a chance encounter in a stalled elevator their destines collide and set in motion a fate filled with peril—but also some seriously steamy mojo!
Together, along with the help of his long lost siblings, Lennon and Lilith will need to fight for more than their love—the fate of Heaven, Hell, and everything in between hangs in the balance.
You’ll want to check this entire series out if you love: 🖤 Obsessed heroes 🖤 Paranormal elements and ✨magicks✨ 🖤 Snarky humor 🖤 Steamy fated mates
Broken had me laughing, swooning, and I may or may not have teared up a bit! Go give this series a go!
This entire series has been so fun to read! I love this twist on the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The idea that they were created to stop evil instead of bring on the apocalypse is so unique.
I've always been a huge fan of Layla Frost and her writing style and this entire series just encompasses why.
This book follows Lennon (Pestilence) and Lilith. It had a fun combination of spice, comedy and action that kept me interested the entire time.
One of my favorite things about this book is how quick into the action we got, while also getting the development of their relationship admist the mess that is Absolve. The build up of Lennon and Lillith's relationship was a good speed, not feeling rushed but also not being pushed back or set aside as an after thought. Getting to witness them learn each other and grow as a couple was actually the best of all the books so far in my opinion. There were more conflicts between these two than there was between Denny and Nate or Stellan and Juno. It added a very realistic aspect to the book, because even soul mates don't get along 100% of the time, especially since they did start out as strangers.
All in all this book (and series) caught my attention quickly and has held it very consistently. I can't wait for book 4 to come out!
Wow, I loved this novel! I could not put it down. I loved loved loved the first two novels in this series, and this novel did not disappoint. From the first few pages this novel reached out and grabbed a hold of my heart and I wasn't sure I was going to get it back in one piece. This novel was so good. I love when a novel has me on the edge of my seat reading because I need to know what is coming next. Well this novel checked all of my boxes. I started reading and could not put it down, the next thing I realize is that I have stayed up all night reading. It was so worth losing sleep over, and I don't regret doing it because this novel was so good I couldn't put it down. I loved Lennon and Lillith. Oh my gosh their chemistry was so awesome. I love when a novel makes me forget about the real world and ultimately leaves me with a smile on my face and a happy heart. This novel did exactly that. I can't wait to see what is coming next.
Let’s see if I can keep this short and sweet…Broken is book three in the paranormal romance series by Layla Frost. The first two books, Styx and Stoned must be read before going into Broken, there is far too much goodness that happens in the first two books that readers can’t miss.
Lennon and Lilith’s story was the best way to start off the month of love. These two are such a kick in the pants together, even without all the other drama going on in the storyline, the two main leads will take you on the best adventure. Readers who love a little grumpy/sunshine romance, tossed in with fated mates and paranormal vibes, you will love Broken. Be warned though fellow readers, you will live in all your feels for a while after this one! I sure did.
Fantastic job to Ms. Author, we patiently waited for the next book in the Four series, and I can totally say it was well worth the wait. But I totally can’t wait to see what comes next of our lovely little group of crazies.
First of all, this is not a stand alone. Please read Styx & Stoned first so you can appreciate all the emotion, friendship, banter, battles, & awesomeness of this series.
Now, Lennon & Lilith!!!
This story was super hard for me at some points bc of part of the storyline hitting very close to a personal situation. It's written beautifully & my eyes leaked a lot.
During other parts of the story, the LOL moments were on point! Juno is hilarious, Levi is devil's food delicious, & Nate makes me smile often. Stellan & Denny also get high fives. 😉
I adore the connection between Lennon & Lilith. From their first first meeting to their adult meet cute, the sparks are delightful! I enjoyed the way they communicate & how Lilith leans on him but also stands up to him. And Lennon has this shell with everyone else that was fun to watch melt as he & Lilith get closer!
(Sidebar: could we get more Finn & Hannah?)
The 🔥🔥🔥, humor, heart, & hope in this story are all perfectly woven together, & omh the overall storyline in the series & hint at the final book are STELLAR! Absolutely love this series so much!
Lilith is an empath through and through. She is kind and loving. She knows her life was meant for something extraordinary. Lennon is controlled, cool, and collected. He is a healer. What happens when these two meet and Lennon realizes Lilith is his mate? Freaking fireworks, that's what.
GAH!!! I am so head over heels in love with this series. Lilith and Lennon brought all those emotions back to the surface! So much mystery, suspense, passion, love, and heartache. Full of twists and turns that you won't see coming. I hung on every stunning word and felt every single emotion. These characters are taking you on a roller coaster ride, you won't soon forget.
Absolutely stunning words! You will fall in love with these amazing characters! I wish I could give it 100 stars but since 5 is the best, I'll go with that. 5 outrageously wonderful stars!
Broken is the third book in the Th Four, a paranormal series about the four horsemen. I've only recently discovered this series which is a departure from this author's typical books. I've really enjoyed each of these books - which I recommend reading in order. There is a lot of fun, witty banter and great lines in this one. I loved the insta connection that occurs between Lilith and Lennon and the first half of the book as they are getting to know each other. Things kick into high gear partway through when Lennon discovers the truth of who he is and everything starts to fast track with the paranormal aspects. Broken runs the gamut from lighthearted and fun to deeply emotional and sad and everything in between and makes for a bit of an intense read as you live through those emotions with these characters.
This series just continues to leave me wanting MORE. Like, NOW. But I can have it all now. Trust me, I’ve tried. Between Lennon and Lilith, their secrets that come tumbling out in the most twisty, excellent ways (trust me here, one surprise will throw you), the camaraderie between found siblings and their mates, the dark humor Lilith’s family has, and the unlikely allies, this is absolutely the story that I’ve been waiting for!
I’m so worried about ruining any surprises that I can only say the chemistry is scorching. The love is big. But the real danger coming their way is proving to be even bigger than imagined. Like, a lot bigger. Because it would seem that some folks don’t have a lick of loyalty, and they don’t care who gets hurt along the way. Not even if they’re the ones hurt. But we all need the fourth sibling to come back. Or everyone needs to go to him. I’m pretty sure he’s going to be a tad cantankerous, which means I can’t wait to see who his mate is and how the heck this all ends.
Layla is one of my top authors. I loved this series and have been waiting for the next book in The Four. Juno will always be my favorite but I think each of these characters is supposed to be different as they bring something different to the table. The into we get between Lennon and Lilith is pure magic, I adored seeing them as children with a connection felt from the start. Revisiting that as adults trapped in an elevator was just as magical. This one felt way more emotional than the previous two for me due to Lilith's parents but my tears were also filled with laughter as well. I was happy to get to see Nate and Denny as well and the glimpse we see of the final sibling at the end brings a lot of excitement to the conclusion of this series.
Broken is book 3 in Layla Frost’s The Four series. It is a must that you start this series from the beginning and read it in order since the characters, plot, and events carry from book to book. I have become addicted and The Four is making for an amazing binge read.
Broken picks up where Stoned left off and now we get to know more about Pestilence and his mate. I was amazed once again how clever this series is and how unique a twist this is on the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Be prepared for an emotional ride. You will laugh, cry and feel all the tension and passion these characters have to give. Throw in some danger, loving friends and family, heartbreak, a little avenging and some more Heaven/Hellish drama and merriment and you have yourself a fantastic read.
I am immediately picking up the next book in the series; Bones and I cannot wait for more Magicks! I also want a churro… darn you little devil!
I have been patiently waiting for this book (and hopefully so many more) and can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. It brought out all the feels- joy, rage, love, pain, laughter, and tears. Lennon and Lilith (like the other siblings and their mates) are perfect together. They truly complete the other. I loved watching them fall in love and get together. That sweetness made the pain that comes bearable. This is not a standalone. If you haven’t read the first two books, not only will you be a bit lost, but you will have missed the best stories. I hope we get the final brother’s book soon, and hopefully Levi gets a book too (and a few others).
