Hello fellow goodreads members!

I've been a member here for 6 months, and am finally posting links for my debut novel, 'Curse of the Ruby Eyes'. Talk about procrastinating. :P

It's a unique story about a young girl who chances upon a pair of innocent looking antique earrings, unaware of the curse surrounding them. Her life soon gets tossed around and turned upside down when two ancient ghosts entombed within are released and take control of her.
She is then forced into a bizarre quest which soon evolves into a run from the law, until she seeks out a voodoo practitioner, who hopefully can rid her of the spirit parasites!
And yes, there is a splash of romance to make things even more interesting. :)

I received this for free in exchange for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this book. The ideas within it were quite well formed and I really liked the interplay between Jane and the ghosts in her head. Jake Scraggs and Boonja had definitely distinct personalities and I loved that they really shone through on the page.

The use of voodoo was quite interesting and I loved the way magic was woven into the book.

Unfortunately, the books loses some points when it deals with the 'romance' between Matt and Jane. I never quite bought into their connection.

It also loses points because of the complete 'damsel in distress routine' played by Jane for most, if not all, of the book. Jane never solves anything for herself. She is always led, Boonja leads her, Jake controls her and Matt does the 'knight in dirty armour' routine. If Jane had a little more agency the book would be so much better. If Jane discovered things for herself, I would think more about the character but she doesn't. The character spends 80% of the time crying or in pain and the other 20% lusting after the beefcake.

I took a lot of time to start this novel and when I started I had a huge migrane at the moment, because I just read this whole book in one sitting! My first oppinion of the book is AWESOME.It constantly grabed me and made me want to read the book faster. The intrigue of the plot was what kept me interested. After I finished I could genuinely say I enjoyed the story, though I didn't emerge from the book with the characters in my heart and constantly darting through my mind. The story was quick, creepy, and pretty fun read.I'd strongly recommend this book if you're looking for something interesting yet don't require a deep emotional investment.THE WHOLE STORY IS A COMPLETE PACKAGE with the exhilarating ingredients of suspense, horror, pirates and voodoos combined.Jane is a protagonist who is sweet, brave and likeable. The author knows how to tell a good story. He has developed a good plot, characters and has presented the story in a way that I didn't feel a moment of boredom. Thanks to the author for sending me a free copy for the R2R programme and cheers to him for such an amazing book.

This book blends piracy, voodoo and contemporary life in a cauldron of complexity. The characters are engaging , if not universally likeable, and the reader finds himself rooting for Jane and Matt to triumph over the evil held in the ruby eyes. No spoilers here -
