Embark on an interstellar journey with "The Babylonian Chronicles," a riveting sci-fi trilogy that catapults readers into the heart of the ancient asteroid Psyche. Nuclear scientist Salaam Rahal's quest for evidence of an advanced civilization takes a perilous turn, leaving his commander, Calager McGeen, and base engineer, Sara Lafeete, in a race against time to save him.
As Sara battles exhaustion and radiation poisoning in the asteroid's lava tubes, a wrong turn thrusts her into a mysterious discovery, raising questions of reality and hallucination. Meanwhile, Commander McGeen faces a deadly confrontation with his old rival, Lance, whose vengeance threatens the hidden outpost's secret agenda.
Deep within Psyche's core, Salaam and Sara stumble upon a trove of ancient rocket chariots of Babylon, triggering a daring rescue mission led by Joaquin Gonzalez. With Lance's weapon poised to obliterate the base, Joaquin faces a heart-pounding choice that will determine the fate of Psyche itself. Get ready for a gripping tale of survival, discovery, and sacrifice in the uncharted depths of space.
This was a gripping sci-fi journey that packs a punch at under 150 pages. It's split into 3 parts, each filled with high stake adventures, contemplation, action and intensity. The writing style is vivid and lyrical, and there is building suspense throughout leading to the intense final battle. I enjoyed the range of characters and seeing their thoughts, emotions, and actions play out when facing life threatening situations. The novella follows attacks on their base, launching rescue missions, defense and planning, and unravelling the mysteries of ancient maps and markings. I loved the touch of having pictures in the book to add to the story alongside the crews epic adventures.
🌌 "Sure to the layman's eye, it was just a bunch of blinding white snow. To the first, it was a new land with wonders beneath. On Psyche, every crater was a new land to explore"
🌌 "He knew this was a wild idea, but he had to try"
🌌 "What better candidate for a mission to Psyche that someone whose name meant peace"
🌌"There was beauty there. Some would only see desolation. Some could watch the transformations in awe"
This novella has a lot going on for less than 150 pages. The author manages to throw us onto one tense near miss after another, with the crew fighting to avoid imminent death.
The novella is split into three parts and each one held my attention as I wanted to see where the story was going. I think the author did a great job within the limits of a novella. I wish this had been a full-length book though as I thought the concept was intriguing and I'd like to see where it goes next. I would also have liked to get more back story and character development to really connect with what was going on and connect emotionally with the characters.
We get multiple pov which I enjoyed and I thought this was done well. The author really crafted the landscape and I could visualise Psyche with its strange creators, caves and volcanic tubes. I really loved the pictures throughout the book and thought this was a great touch.
Overall, an enjoyable read but I would have loved more. It will be great to see what comes next!
With thanks to the author and Love Books Tours for providing a copy of the book.
I think I'm most interested in what is going to happen after this book. What will they do with their discoveries on Psyche? What's going on back on Earth? The book itself was good, but I feel like I need more of an intro to the post-apocalyptic world here, maybe the beginning of settling on Psyche, possibly even earlier to fully connect with these characters.
A print copy of this book was gifted through Love Books Tours in exchange for an honest review.
In 2025, I'm adopting my own rating system of SCRIBE. Typically a good, okay, average read is 3*.
Style: 3/5 I read this as a collection of three short stories but I think my approach marred my experience as there was an overarching plot, connecting the three together. There were developments in stories 2 and 3 that I felt could've been told earlier, because I was thinking of story 1 as a separate entity, so the revelations seemed out of place, and as the reader I felt cheated. I liked the worldbuilding elements that we got but I did want more, especially around the AI. Is it sentient? For example, the narrative says she "did not want" and she "realized" things, typically words associated with human emotion and behaviour. What are her limitations? Why was she not able to assist in the situations Salaam and Sara found themselves in, to offer aid? I initially thought it was a small team but the group had increased by story 3 so understanding the scale of the operation earlier on would've been good. I also liked the addition of the graphics - a nice touch that not too many books include, and I appreciate these extend the page count and therefore print costs. There's even colour graphics! We have been spoiled. Credits for these could've been collected at the front, rather than under every image, as these detracted a little from my experience. And the formatting of the book needed a little tidying so we didn't get half blank pages and the left hand side page number at the bound edge.
Characters: 2/5 The cast rounded out to multiple POVs by the end of the collection. I felt there was an opportunity to explore the relationship between Sara and Calager earlier and in more detail (I appreciate this would've extended the word count) because this took me by surprise in the second story. Given the heightened tension throughout the book, I feel like Sara would've maybe thought/reflected on their status in her POV early on. The introduction of Ada confused me as it took me a while to work out this wasn't another physical member of the crew, but I like that there is AI and I'd been keen to see this rounded out further (see comments in Style). I enjoyed the backstory elements we got for Sara and Salaam, demonstrating the care and consideration the author has put into these characters and justifying why these of all people are on the Psyche mission.
Resonance: 1/5 Given the short, snappy pacing of the sections and how the POVs shifted quickly, it was hard to make any emotional attachments with the story and characters.
Intrigue: 3/5 I liked the concept of converting an asteroid and how the plot developed.
Balance: 3/5 Very fast pacing with tension and cliff-hanger sections.
Enjoyment: 2/5 It felt like there was a big story to tell in less than 150 pages and I think more was needed to do this plot justice. I definitely want more and would hope the follow-up novel explores more of the themes in detail, properly introducing settings and characters.
This really is a genre, I don't read a lot, and as I was reading, I thought about why and I have no idea as I love watching Sci Fi, made me think that I really need to start reading some more!
The Babylonian Chronicles is a short read at only 135 pages, but don't let that fool you as it was packed full of suspense, tension, vivid descriptions, and action. From the first few pages, the author has you hooked, with his descriptive writing style. The story unfolds through 3 different Chronicles, each one building on the last one and allowing us to see the full journey and understanding of our characters by the end.
I really did want more, more world building, more storyline and more knowledge of the characters but with it being a novella, I do understand and I'm not saying that this was a great read because it really was! I so hope that there is either more Chronicles to come or a full blown novel as I really want to see more of this world
This Sci-Fi story is easy to read and grabs your attention right from the beginning. I felt like it was really an introduction to the whole world so I am interested to see what happens next. It’s quite a short read at 135 pages and it leaves you wanting more. I think Sara was my favourite character as she was so determined and strong. I also want to mention how cool the front cover is and also throughout the novel there are further pictures that add to the story and are a really good touch.
Sci-Fi is another of my least read genres and I'm really trying to expand my reading so this little novella seemed the perfect starting point - and I really enjoyed this!
I was initially drawn to the front cover which looks super cool and let's us know what to expect - but as we read, the stories are also broken up by a good number of other images, which really added something extra.
I love having a clear image of what's happening as I read and this really enhanced that - although the writing was descriptive enough too.
It's written in a unique format introducing the world over 3 survival chronicles which worked really well here.
Each one being pretty short, but it was still really easy to connect with the characters and get a feel for our setting.
This was an exciting read with lots of suspense and tension throughout as the crew defend their base and take on rescue missions.
This book feels like it's preparing us for something bigger and I'm not sure whether we'll be seeing more short chronicles in the future or whether this is getting us ready for something much more meaty - but I have to admit that whatever it is, I'll be keeping an eye out for its release and continuing the journey.
Review for 'The Babylonian Chronicles' by Henry Sipes
This book is very well written and narrated and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.
The first thing I want to point out is that although this is a science fiction book, if you are not a fan of science fiction PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF!! I am not a fan of science fiction at all but i was intrigued by the synopsis and am an eclectic reader so thought I would give it a go as it is only 136 pages also. If you are not a typical science fiction fan expand your literature genre choice and give this a go today! I must say I was very was pleasantly surprised that I really got sucked into the storyline from beginning to end and I would actually read the rest of the books in this series!!! The next book in tis series, according to the back of the book is called 'Thatenbia' and will be out this year so I am quite looking forward to that. I would also read the other science fiction books by this author which says a lot about how good a storyline this is. In this book Henry transports the reader on to the ancient asteroid Psyche where we meet several characters led by Calager McGeen. Immediately the action begins with nuclear scientist Salaam Rahal searching for evidence of an advanced civilization when he drops into a fissure that has opened and he starts falling towards the molten core of Psyche. Commander Calager and his wife and base engineer Sara Lafeete races to save him but will they get there in time? Sara later gets lost in Psyche's lava tubes where she discovers something but her radiation levels hit a dangerous high. Will Sara make it out in time before it is too late? Saalam and Sara discover ancient rockets of Babylon but that leads to a rescue mission by Joaquin Gonzalez. Will Joaquin make it to them in time? While all this is going on Calager's nemesis Lance is on a mission to destroy the crew and kill Calager, led on a mission by Sara's own father!! Will he succeed and destroy them all? Well, if you want to find out you will have to grab your copy of this novella today and I can promise you will not regret it. With a storyline ram packed with danger, friendship, romance, history, science fiction, discoveries, space and so much more what are you waiting for? With this being a novella at just 136 pages I completely devoured it in one sitting of a couple of hours and it definitely left me wanting more. throughout the book there are several intriguing illustrations thanks to both the author Henry Sipes himself as well as illustrator @Dedi5un which help the reader to picture the drama and action come to life along with Henry's vivid descriptions. The characters were all realistic each with their own unique and individual personalities, strengths, flaws and weaknesses and I enjoyed watching how they all interacted with each other individually as well as part of separate and one big team. Thanks to Henry's brilliant descriptions he really does ensure the reader feels the fear, tension, comfort, friendship, horror and humour that Calager and his team are seeing, feeling and going through throughout the pages. This is a truly unique storyline which is hard to come by after reading hundreds of books so congratulations Henry. I am intrigued with several of his other books and I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.
Overall a unique science fiction novella filled with action, drama, danger and more that will keep you hooked from beginning to end
Here is my review for The Babylonian Chronicles by Henry Sipes
I really enjoyed reading this sci-fi book as I was hooked from the start to the finish. I found it was an easy to read book as the author has an easy writing style. I found the plot intriguing and exciting. It is a fast read. Also, I liked the synopsis as that drew me to read the book. I thought the book was excellently written and well thought out. The characters were interesting and played their parts well as they helped make the story. The story was well detailed with descriptions of everything that happened so you knew what was going on and it was explained so you could understand the technical things as well. It was an interesting story and I liked the characters. I liked the pictures that appeared in the kindle story as they fitted in with the story and they were brilliant. I have not read this author before but as I have enjoyed this book, I would look to read more of his books in the future.

I really, really enjoyed this! Three shorter stories in one handy set of chronicles. All three stories were great reads and very quick to get through. All science is explained and there is no complicated jargon. The illustrations throughout out are excellent and very visually pleasing.
The stories are written well and flow easily. The book is descriptive and leaves no questions unanswered.
I liked the characters. The main ones were Salaam, Sara, Calager, Shaahida, Lance and Joaquin. I liked them all. They were all very brave and extremely smart. They all worked so well together.
The stories are written in third person from multiple POV. The POVs are from the characters mentioned above. It worked very well as it gave us insight into these brave people and as much of their thinking as possible with third person.
I really recommend this if you enjoy Sci-fi. I think this would be suitable for a YA that's into Sci-Fi fiction too!
The Babylonian Chronicles is a fantastic science-fiction book set on Psyche, an asteroid, and it follows a team of scientists as they investigate their surroundings and try to find hidden secrets.
We follow three main characters at first, Calager (the commander), Salaam (the scientist), and Sara (the engineer), but we are also joined by Shaahida and Joaquin further into the book.
I thought it was a very easy read as it explained things very well and had lots of action, taking place at different stages in the story so not too overwhelming, and the story was very short so definitely something you could read on the go!
I loved reading about the characters’ origins and how they got to be part of the team, and thought the plot was all set out very nicely. The author’s style was interesting and I’d recommend this to anyone wanting a quick but fun sci-fi read!
The Babylonian Chronicles Sci-Fi Henry Sipes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Although this book is a short sci-fi novella, it was an enjoyable read.
The pacing was fast, which I liked and the world building was good. The author managed to include plenty of details and descriptions without using info dumps.
I liked the way this book was split into 3 parts and the artwork throughout was a nice addition. It was interesting to see if anything matched what I had actually imagined.
The characters were relatable and their reactions/behaviours were realistic. I wish the book was a bit longer though, because I wanted to get to know them even more and on a deeper level.
*Thank you to @lovebookstours and @authorhenrysipes for providing this book. This is my own opinion and an honest review, which I am leaving voluntarily*
The number of pages in this book might not be the highest. However, that does not in any way mean that this is short in content, or rather, action. 😉
Earth is in trouble, and mankind is trying to survive by finding other livable rocks. Our story takes place on, and in, an asteroid with potential, even though it is a tad dangerous, 16 Psyche.
Holding my breath, jumping flat on the ground, I am almost exhausted after their training missions!
We meet the team, led by Commander McGreen. I like them, I see their reasoning through their thoughts. Perhaps I should have been in research instead as a career. These guys are as curious as I am.
Along the way, we also get some beautiful artwork. And there might be a book #2 on the way.😊
Thank you to Love Books Tours and the author for the free book.
The Babylonian Chronicles is a novella where the action just doesn’t stop.
It’s split into a few different parts, and each part chronicles (tee hee, tee hee) a different event taking place on the asteroid they’re located on. Salaam, Sara, and Calager are the main characters we meet and the story flips back and forth between their perspectives.
Full of action, I felt thrust into the story. It moves so quickly, it was hard to get to know what was happening to the characters at times. But the plot was interesting and kept me turning the pages.
The thing I loved best, though, was the art included. It really helped me visualize the characters and their location in space.
Impending doom, death, destruction, and coffee? This novella is divided into three distinct stories. At just 135 pages, the world-building is swift, and the character relationships feel brief. But I have seen that there is another book coming soon that will continue with more in depth adventures with the characters Salaam, McGeen, Sara and probably Ada as well. Of the three stories, the final one was my favorite, likely due to its strong buildup. The writing is unique, with the perspective shifting between different characters, which adds depth to the story and brings it to life by offering a view from multiple angles, including third-person. There were many different graphics in the novella which were such a great touch!
I got this book from a local book fair in the summer and have just now gotten around to reading it
I quite enjoyed it and would best compare it with Gemina from The Illuminae Files. The book can feel like a one shot movie, as well, which helps to enhance the quick pace of the events that took place in the story
I also went to school with Ryan Boatman, who provided some artwork, so I thought that was cool (also just the art in general was top tier)
I recommend to anyone interested space, historical settlements, or action in general
This little novella is told through three survival stories, which I feel is a good build up for a full novel. It has some interesting characters, which I think you get to know quite well even though it's a short book. I enjoyed the setting of this story and it definitely has its tense moments. This book was an interesting set up for me as it didn't have your normal chapter settings, it just kind of went from here to there to back again (if that makes any sense 😅) but it still flowed well, and! it had little pictures throughout, which I actually really liked, so bonus points for that ✨ after reading this it definitely put me in the mood for some more space themed stories 🌌
At just over 150 pages, this is quite a short read, and one I completed in one sitting, one cold evening, staying awake long after I should have gone to sleep in order to turn the final page.
I do love a good Sci-fi read, one of my favourite genres, and this certainly is a good Sci-fi read.
It's a novella, but I think it probably an introduction and hopefully we'll read more of this world.
The characters were believable and felt real, and the space setting was amazingly descriptive.
The storyline flowed well and I loved the images used throughout the book, they really added an extra level to the read.
The novella is split into three parts... 'Chronicles' which connect the characters and the plotline. I felt this novel gave a good story for 150 pages, though I highly suspect it's paving the way for a more in depth novel. I enjoyed the way it was written with it's multiple point of view. I liked the characters Salaam and Sara and how we got a glimpse of their back stories. The introduction of Al characters were contrasting and coupled with the author's skills for description it really brought the story to life. The images within the book I felt were a nice touch as they helped with the visualisation of the story.
This is a lovely sized book, it's only 135 pages and has a nice sized print. It's also full of fab pictures.
I actually think this book was too short, there was so much going on in such a short space of time that I couldn't always keep track of who was who and what was happening. I think the characters could have been really interesting, they were certainly a nice diverse bunch, but I didn't feel that we got to know them fully.
The story was fast paced and action packed right from the first page. The hints to an ancient civilization were fascinating. I'd love to see this developed more in a longer novel.
For 130 pages, this book packs some punch. It jumps right into impending disaster and I literally had no idea what was going on but it all makes sense pretty quickly as you quickly acquaint your with the characters, Psyche and get a grip on the planet and what the team are trying to do.
There were kind of 3 mini stories inside the one short story, and my favourite evolved around Sara and the tubes. I felt anxious for her and desperately wanted all to be well.
All in, it was a suspence filled race of a read and I loved the illustrations in the book along the way.
I wanted to read this book because I've ready very little sci-fi books and wanted to explore the genre more. I'm glad I read this book because it was a very good read, the plot was engaging and Sipes is a very talented writer! If you're looking for a new sci-fi trilogy to read, I recommend this one. It's a quick read, at 134 pages, it's a fun, action packed adventure and the pictures throughout the book were lovely as you don't see that in many books for adults. Also, the cover and bookmark are very cool and pretty!
At first, I felt a little confused. But then, I realized we’re joining the team that’s stationed on the asteroid Psyche after being established for an undetermined amount of time. With multiple story angles, this worked out like you’re watching any space station movie or series. A loaded suspense thriller, it’s a good blend of personal interactions, exploration and adventure for a sci-fi novel.
