3.5 stars. I enjoyed this story but had some "REALLY??" moments... take the cover for example- awful and looks juvenile if that is supposed to be Achilles. I can't take that cover model seriously as a killer or man ready to step up and provide for a child and family. Maybe in a different pose?

Best line in the whole story:
“Are you a musician?”
“Sure am. I sing and write Appalachian music.”
What the fuck was that?

Spoilers come early for this one!

I was surprised to learn that he was only 24 after that first scene with his mother, he reads as a much more mature man. I pegged him as closer to 34 than 24.
And why didn't Violet just take Jack back home to Tennessee? Why stay there alone? Didn't the Mom want to see her grandson after her daughters death? Did they know about Adam since his birth or was he a secret? SOOO many questions...

Highlights:
Its these scenes that kept me hooked, she had no problem standing up to Achilles:
"Jack fussed as I dragged him from the swing set. As we marched through the parking lot, I glimpsed a man in a car, his arm slung over the steering wheel. Achille.
He raised his head, his glare piercing. I ripped out the piece of notebook paper with the lyrics, folded it, and stuck it under his windshield wiper.
Then I tugged Jack’s hand and we left."
------------
"He let me go, leaning in closer. “A father’s rights come before an aunt’s. I’m suing you for full custody, and I’m going to win.”
I would like to point out that this was NOT the plan, no wonder people get the wrong impression about him, since he doesn't speak out his mouth what he is thinking inside his head!
He complains about this several times and it gets old.

This was also a funny touch:
"Listening. Understanding. Being present."
The podcast laid out a blueprint for fatherhood at odds with my reality. I paused in the living room, my target in sight. I fished out my garrote. He sat on the couch, nodding. Another drug addict who’d missed too many payments. He barely struggled as I slipped the wire around his neck.

Another REALLY moment, Violet wants Achilles to find out who killed her sister so SHE can kill them. I am sorry, to go from a folk singer to cold blooded killer? NOPE. Give us some background, traumatic past, as to why she would have the nerves (and whatever needed) to actually kill someone?
Achilles: "It could unravel everything, but I admired her willingness to get her hands dirty. Hell, we weren’t so different after all.
It sparked a light inside me. I studied the situation from another angle."

I appreciate the author trying to bond the characters together in a believable way but it didn't make enough sense for me.
"Violet and I would never be in love, and that was fine. We had something better—mutually assured destruction. With so much at stake, neither of us would betray the other."

And this was funny:
His expression clouded as he pulled away. “Is anyone waiting for you in Tennessee?”
I blinked. “Like who?”
His eyes flashed. “A boyfriend.”
There’s nobody but you. “What if there was?”
He smiled. “If I caught you together, I’d slit his throat and make you drink his blood off the floor.” His words sent a dark thrill to my belly.
I sighed. “Well, that’s one way to ensure you’re the only man in my life.”

Also, there was a huge plot hole with the mom-in-law, no actual meeting or discussion, she just started baby sitting? That bothered me as well as the ending, all of a sudden the whole "Family" was now way more accepting and accommodating of what Violet wanted because the hit was arranged by the wife and Romeo knew about it all??

And why didn’t he glove up for sex with Violet? He sure mentioned it before.

OH- and I hated how in the first sex scene he just "speared" her and it burned and was so painful- but a good pain. NO NO WAY. What is with stabbing a woman with no prep acceptable??? And the whole night of dirty lovemaking- omg I skimmed. First time after not having sex for a while? Be gentle THEN tear her apart ;)

Vanessa keeps putting out excellent books. I'm glad she's taking her time writing. I've always loved her books but they're just more to them now.
Achilles and Violet are a great pair. They have their ups and downs. Especially being enemies to lovers. There are twist and turns that I never saw coming. Highly recommend.

Claimed🙃

Claimed is the next book in the Sinners of Boston series and focuses on Achille, the Family’s hitman.
Out to lunch one day with his mom, she comments on how similar a toddler that is in the restaurant looks like him. This leads him to a startling discovery and puts Violet and Jack directly in his path😳

A great story with some twists and turns that were unexpected but kept me guessing❣️Loved Achille, Violet and Jack’s characters and the chemistry between Achille and Vi😍

I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️

STRANA FAMILY BOOK BLOG

Now, for reference I rated all the books in this series pretty low. So I think at this point it'd be safe to say I need to break up with Ms. Waltz books, yes? 🙃

So...I hated it. Or maybe I just didn't like it. I really wanted to like it, or like something about it but I couldn't. I can't. It was just so strange. And maybe it's because I don't remember a single detail about the previous books.

Little miss southern hick who writes and sings Appalachian music (???) in big bad Boston? Getting all involved with a mafia hitman? Who's raising said hitman's child who is her nephew? LOL this was random as hell.

Hero calling the heroine by the nickname Bumpkin as an insult which somehow evolves into an endearment. Yeah, that was some big cringe. 😬

Now, I did give it a shot. And up until about 40ish percent I was sorta enjoying myself. But then it all unraveled and I realized none of this made sense.

First and foremost, the writing was weird. It's been a while since I read this author but the narrative and way everything was written didn't work for me. The timeline was wonky, the scene/chapter transitions were rough and didn't make a lot of sense. The annoying way the author picked up a point in the plot but would drop it like it was never brought up. How secrets were revealed was super dumb and frustrating. Especially ones that we actually had the chance to experience but were simply told about later. (The heroine overhears a convo at their engagement party but we never see or hear about this happening until the heroine reveals it to the bad guy chapters later. So we had no idea she had even an ounce of a clue who was behind her sisters murder.) I guess it was done to impress the reader and make the heroine seem intelligent and badass but...nah.

And the relationship between the MCs? Boring. Soooo boring. Not an ounce of chemistry between them. I didn't buy the heros attraction to little miss bow peep, alright? No way. He was making fun of her in the beginning and somehow because she popped a back bone here and there with him and suddenly she's his light and everything good? 🤣 And the heroine wasn't anything special. How am I supposed to believe little backwoods Betty from Tennessee was out here surviving in Boston raising her nephew while sleuthing for her sisters killer in her free time was hilarious. She didn't have that instinct to her. Not at all. And for her to be oh so understanding and accepting of the heros job as a hitman and then actually kill her sisters assassin? And have no trauma or emotions about it?? Yeah. Sure, I mean I guess if you want to try and make that believable then that's your choice but it wasn't.

And to top it all off was the heroines ridiculously over the top southern accent. Maybe the written accent wasn't entirely the issue for me but more so the dumb shit the heroine spouted all the time. Boy, if you wanted to capture every southern backwoods God fearing cliched phrase or saying then well done! You nailed it. Consider it accomplished. It was nauseating to read because of how forced and ridiculous it sounded. Talking about picking wildflowers and living in a small town... Lord, it's like she lived in a cabin in the woods with no Internet. It sounded absurd everytime she reflected on her home or would respond with some out of the box ridiculous "southern" phrase.

Despite everything I think that ruined the book for me very early on. As someone who's from the foothills of North Carolina I found it offensive to read such cliched crap spouted just because the heroine was from a small town in Tennessee. If the author has any real experience with the South and it's residents and how they speak then I'd be surprised this was their choice of representing them tbh.

Aside from that, the plot was completely pointless. From who killed her sister, the big reveal of who hired said killer and why they killed her to the big fight the MCs had. That fight was just so ridiculous because all of what the heroine got upset over were things she KNEW she needed to ask or question the hero about and she NEVER did. Yet, when she finds proof to her unasked questions and confronts him about it and accuses him of outright lying to her about I had to keep myself from laughing. Like, I'm sorry but she kept whining about feeling like she was stealing her sister's life with the hero or stealing him because she imagined they'd had some sort of relationship. When he didn't bring it up because it was in the past AND he knew the truth was ugly and the heroine would be hurt to learn it. And SHE NEVER ASKED. So when she learns her sister was a prostitute that the hero paid for exclusivity with she acts even more butthurt and dramatic. Good Lord, if you'd just asked instead of mooning over the guy and playing hot and cold with him maybe you'd have known sooner.

Also, who in the hell just tells a three year old that they're their father in a mini mall??? Like, that was so random and out of the blue. No slow introduction or being friends then telling the kid the truth.

Basically nothing was handled the way any reasonable or logical human being would. So, I think the word absurd captures my exact feelings about this story.

And with that this will be the last book for me by this author.

A good mafia story, with lots of action. But I think I didn't enjoy it as much as previous books by this author. Parts of the story seemed disjointed, and others seemed obvious when I think they were meant to be twists. But I loved the couple, and parts of the mystery were engaging. Overall, a good read, just not my favorite.

Decent

This was a decent read. I enjoyed the twists and turns thos book had to offer. I know this is who she is and it has to come off on the pages but man I was over the analogies and metaphors she kept saying.. there was a minimum of 3 per page for a good chunk of the book. I enjoyed reading Achille and his growth throughout the book how he overcame the concept that love isn't a weakness. I get where Kayla was coming from about wanting and not wanting her sisters ex but the flip flopping I was over it.. for instance on one page she said sister be d@amned I want him. Then 5 paragraphs later she's pushing him away because of said sister.. the ending was good and the epilogue was good as well. I just wish it told us how much in the future is was instead of me having to guess. But otherwise a good read, wasn't bad but wasn't the best. Don't read the next sentence if you don't want a mild spoiler I'm going to keep it vague.

I have a question and I feel like this should have been explored... the person of interest who did the twist.. had been around Jack several times... with the thought process this person had... why did they do a test to even see if jack was who they thought he was? That part didn't make sense..

Oohhh...ohhhh... Definitely a Hitman romance that hits differently because of the way it made me feel and just the varied shades this story had of emotions and suspense and so many more that made me feel a plethora of feelings.

I felt for Violet right from the start and really respected her for taking on the responsibility. I really admired her for her strength and her willingness to provide the best life for the child even though she's struggling herself and battling with the emotional pain of what's happened.

Right from the first page this book grabs you as Achille while on a lunch date with his mom, in a weird twist of events, finds that he has a child that he had no idea about yet the resemblance can't be avoided.

The suspense parts start right from there and I was really curious and wanting to know what the heck was happening as to Achille's reaction.

Achille is a Hitman, working for the Mafia but he's raised well and has a good family and I really liked how he takes on full responsibility and genuinely cares and loves his kid even though he's still struggling with Violet and the unknown things he feels for her.

The story takes a bit of an unconventional path as it will make you connect and root for a man who's the bad guy but the way he's with his woman and child will make your heart sing for him.
Achille might have been someone difficult to like in the beginning but he definitely becomes someone whom you can't help but lust after and feel things for.

The freaking Suspense was OH SO AMAZING AND THAT FINAL REVEAL OF WHO'S BEHIND IT ALL... Especially the way everything unravels... Oh my... I LOVED THAT PART OH SO MUCH.

I have to say the chemistry between Violet and Achille might have taken time to burn bright, but once the fire starts, it becomes into a raging inferno of desires and needs that will melt off your freaking panties for sure. Achille was both emotionally and physically such a ravenous man where Violet is concerned and their times together... 🥵🔥

A twisted ride that is dark, interspersed with secrets and with beautiful emotional highs and lows. Loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️

Claimed dives into the depths of love, sacrifice, and the blurred lines between right and wrong, showcasing the lengths individuals will go to protect their family. From the first page, readers are drawn into a world where impossible choices must be made, and the consequences of those choices ripple through every aspect of the characters' lives. Violet's dilemma, faced with the choice of marrying Achille or losing Jack, is both heart-wrenching and compelling. As readers follow her journey, they are taken on an emotional rollercoaster, rooting for her to find a way out of the impossible situation she's in.

The story unfolds as the characters grapple with their desires and moral dilemmas. From Violet navigating her new role as a mother to the enigmatic Achille Costa, whose life adds layers of intrigue, each character is compelling in their own right. Despite Achille's dangerous life, he is humanized, allowing readers to empathize with his desire for connection and family. Waltz's storytelling keeps readers on the edge of their seats until the very end, blending suspense, romance, and drama into a narrative that is both thrilling and deeply emotional.

I am normally not a huge fan of the secret baby trope. However, Vanessa Waltz is one of few authors who can write whatever and I’ll give it a try. I was already in love with this world and the characters within it and enjoyed this story. I hope that we get more from the Costa family but I look forward to whatever is next.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "CLAIMED" Such an intertesting, intriguing, emotional intense suspense filled Mafia Romance, anger, secrets, action, twists & surprises that keeps you turning the pages.
Violet is devastated to hear her sister was murdered, she has to go to Boston to take care of her nephew, its expensive to live there & she's desperate to find out who killed her sister & the father isn't in the picture.
Achille Consta is a hitman for the Mafia never thought he'd like to have kids he left a note not to contact him but Violet desperately needs help, when he meets her & Jack he has second thoughts about having a kid, will consider having them in his life his job is dangerous.
I definitely recommend to get this riviting journey Violet & Achille take you on he's looking for a change, he becomes very protective of both Violet & Jack especially to deadly family, will they get a HEA, will they find her sisters murderer, its a must read you don't want go miss I thoroughly enjoyed this book it certainly won't disappoint.

Achille and Violet's story is the fourth book in the series. The story between the two main characters was well written. Violet is raising her sister's son trying to find out what happened to her. Achille's mom sees them and knows that the child is Achille's because of his looks. Turns out she's right.

Achille's and Violet come to an understanding to raise Jack together. The story unfolds between the two and their growth is beautifully written story even though there's a few "what happened" moments. His family distracted from the story of the two because of how they'd suddenly pop in and the reader had no real feel for them. They were two dimensional. The mother was a typical Italian mother and Violet's mom wasn't much better. The villain in the story was telegraphed even though it's doubtful the author realized she'd done it. The gang attack was a good attempt at a diversion but the reaction after fell flat. To sum it up, don't read it expecting mafia action. There's action yes but it's more a love story between the two characters and a building of a family. Read through Kindle Unlimited and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was an unexpected mafia romance. I say that because I wasn't expecting Achille to be how he was. He was fierce and deadly. But he was also loving and protective. Achille was bored and tired of his life. He needed a change. Violet and Jack were just the change he needed. I loved his protective instinct for them, even when it came to his blood family. He put the two of them first. In my eyes he became stronger and more sure; more secure.

I loved Violet. She stepped into a life she wasn't prepared for. And even though some of the answers she got weren't what she was expecting she still held strong. These two were a perfect match. A match I feel would have found each other no matter what had happened to them in life. But I have to say I wasn't expecting the reason why everything happened.. that person was just idiotic.

This was a good unexpected story. I have definitely missed Ms Waltz and her mafia men.

Violet moved to Boston to take care of her young nephew Jack, after her sister was murdered. Before long she realizes that no matter how much she wants to find out who is responsible for her sister's death, Boston is an expensive city and she’s at the end of her rope and desperate for help. Against her sister’s express wishes, she lets Achille Consta, Jack’s father, into their lives. Achille never considered being a father, but Violet and his son have him wondering if it’s something he does want, and if he can make room for them in his life.
This is definitely not what I would call a sweet romance. It’s dark, there is murder and violence, but it does have a lot of steam and a happily ever after. These characters are all well written and compelling. Violet might seem to be just a sweet southern girl, but she has a spine made of steel and will give Achille, the mafia hitman, a run for his money. A fantastic must-read book that I highly recommend.

Good Book

I have to admit I was a little thrown by this fourth book in the series, I expected this one to be about Tony Costa as that would bring the end of the men depicted in the previous three books.
Achille’s was never mentioned in any of the previous books and it felt like this was a thrown in book when Tony’s would have fit much better.
I would say Achille’s story should have been part of the filthy series instead of putting Tony in that series.
Anyway the story itself was good on who the killer was and why Elise was killed, I only guessed who the killer was after the party and the confrontation with Romeo and that was a big surprise.
I liked how they both just wanted what was best for Jack but they fell in love and found their HEA even when he thought his heart was too black for love due to the fact he is a hitman for the mob.
I didn’t like his Mom or Sabrina in this as regardless of how Violet came in to their lives they should have respected Achille’s choice and not been so bitchy.
Good story and a lovely ending.

Loved Achilles and Violet’s story. It’s full of emotions and trying to figure out how to do the right thing when you’ve been told to stay away for your nephews sake. When Achilles sees Violet with a little boy who looks just like him and his mother won’t let it go and he takes matters into his own hands. Violet is in town to find out what happened to her sister, who polled her and why and Kill just might be the man to help her. I loved the banter between them, they were definitely entertaining. The push and pull between them and his family's reaction to the fact she’s as he calls her Bumpkin won’t change the fact that these two have chemistry and fighting it is worthless. Such a good read highly I recommend it. I found this on Booksprout.

A surprise baby for Kill

This was an interesting and funny story. The beginning starts with Kill and his mom having dinner. His mom has been pushing all her children to get married and give her grandchildren. His mom spots a little boy a few booths over who looks just like Kill and especially like him when he was younger. The mom, Violet, is having a difficult time with her son because he won’t eat any food and prefers dessert aka gelato. Kill tries to distract his mom with conversation, but she is adamant that he go over and take a good look at the little boy. She knows that little boy is related to them. So Kill goes over after paying the bill for Violet and Jack to appease his mother. All the twists, turns, and secrets begin from this point . . . . Read On!

I couldn't put this story down, it's a great story. Vanessa Waltz did a wonderful job on it. the plot was strong, it's packed with many emotions, the characters were strong, the story was written well. Violet and Achille were fierce, both would do anything for the ones they loved. Loved how Achille was this lethal bad8ss but had a soft side for Violet and Jack. Violet and Achille were made for each other, their chemistry was off the charts, sizzling, they were perfect together, strong connection. I enjoyed this story, I'd recommend reading this story.
Thank you, Vanessa Waltz. Wonderful work :)

Another great book

The Sinners of Boston series continues with another great story. All of these are worth reading!! I really appreciated the female lead Violet in this book since she was strong and yet very different than other characters in previous books by Vanessa. Achille also had many more facets to his character that are typical with the Mafia romances but also atypical in how he is around Violet and his son. Loved the book and always look forward to the next release.

Achille or Kill as he goes by is in the mob and finds Violet and her nephew, Jack at a restaurant. His mom notices how much Jack looks like Achille and he introduces himself to Violet to find out if he remembers her. It's her deceased sister that is the mother and her death is surrounded by mysteries that Violet is determined to find out answers to. Achille demands she marry him or lose custody of Jack and this begins a whirlwind of a relationship with dangers and mob issues that Violet never wanted to be part of. Can they find their HEA in the midst of all of this?

2.5 Stars. This was ok. I think there were a lot of plot holes and I didn't really believe a lot of the plot drivers.

This story didn't sell me on the chemistry or their relationship in the end. I didn't find any real romance or intimacy that bonded them.

Killing drug addicts for "the family" seemed really pathetic and made me think their small mafia band was weak and so was Achille.

Most of the side characters were unimaginative and two dimensional. The resolution for the "bad guy" felt ridiculous.

Such a beautiful love story. It true what they say never judge a book by its cover. The truth is sometimes hard to accept but it will set you free. Someone that you trusted as a friend is responsible for the senseless death of your sister, leaving your nephew motherless, and made an attempt on your life as well. Why because she believed her unfaithful husband was the father of the class. Cohort her husbands partner her lover to dispose of his body. While this is only a story these things do happen in real live. For all she did her life is forever ruined

Finally a book about a southerner that doesn't portray them as a moron.
*slow claps* I very much enjoyed reading Ms. Walttz's book although I was a little skeeved by someone boning a guy their sibling boned

I guess she was taking it back to the old days... back when the husband died and the brother married the widow to "take care of business"

I found myself wanting more from the character development of the family. and wanted a little more gore.... but I guess im nasty like that

anywho on to the next.

Riveting! Read this book today!
I was hooked from the first page of the book and finished it in one afternoon. Violet is raising her sister's little boy and trying to keep him safe and away from his father. Achille Costa, part of the mob, has no intention of staying away from his son when he finds out about him. This is a suspenseful story full of twists and turns and danger around the corner. Completely threw me off with my guessing on what was going to happen. Fantastic story!

did not finish.

I tried I really did. I didn’t find anyone likable. The main female was from the south and in case you almost miss it you can’t because the person that wrote the book lets you know by spelling it out for you .. or not spelling it out. It was so annoying. No one from the south butchers every word out of their mouth.. it became to weird to try to make sense of it. The story simply wasn’t worth putting up with the nonsense.

enjoyable

I saw the twists miles a head.
Didn’t really like the FMC but enjoyed the plot and the build up.

Typical mafia family but fortunately the author didn’t linger on too many cliches, and even the annoying sister and the reluctant mother who was too set up in her ways were not given too much space in the plot.

Light enjoyable mafia genre with a touch of darkness and violence

I do recommend this book. I liked the FMC. Her personality, her struggles, and strength had a lot of depth. I also liked the MMC to a point. I found him intense but a little too harsh in the beginning, and I hated his nickname for the FMC, which unfortunately lasted throughout the book. I did like his vulnerability, which is rare in these types of books. The story like seemed to lose its way a bit in the middle of the book. I really felt the ending tied up nicely.

I didn't really care for the characters. And the story just fell flat for me. I like the idea and the premise of it, but it just didn't work out with the writing.

I didn't really like that Violet was portrayed as a hillbilly. Her sister came from the same place.  So wouldn't their way of speaking be the same?
And if this was a true mafia romance there is no way Kill or his family would have let Becky live.

Secrets And Betrayal

Vanessa has a way of writing that just pulls you in making you feel as if you are right there. Achille and Violet are characters you will love, add in some twists and you won’t want to put it down. Great story!
I received an advanced copy and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I am so glad to see Vanessa writing again, and I really enjoyed reading this one. He is a hitman for the mafia, she is trying to find out who killed her sister plus she has her sisters kid. This two meet and the sparks fly, they have so much to give. And there is a twist that I didn't see coming and might have you reeling. Recommend
