A gorgeous illustrated chapter book for 6+ readers.
Bluey is an award-winning preschool show about Bluey, a blue heeler pup, and her family. Airing on ABC KIDS, the show has amassed legions of dedicated fans and hugely popular ranges of books, toys, clothes, games and more.
Bluey is a 6 year old Blue Heeler pup who loves to play. Her parents and teacher give her lots of time to practice, which means she’s become very good at inventing games, helping everyone choose their roles and deciding on the rules. Her favourite games are ones that involve lots of other kids and grown-ups (especially her dad) and she mainly likes to pretend she’s a grown up doing grownup things herself.
Bluey is an Australian children's television program by the Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and is co-commissioned by ABC Children's and BBC Studios.
I adored the illustrations. What a way to playfully take on the art style from the show! The short format with easy font is sure to help kids interested in moving on to chapter books. I also love that they went with the fictional world of the bus game from the Bluey episode this was based on.
There are some downsides. There seemed to be randomly complicated words thrown in that would definitely need some grown up help defining. Also it may have been *too* flowery with its language, which is either a pro or a con, depending on your reader. It could help them discover the nuance of fictional verse or...it might just confuse them. It depends on the reader!
Either way, worth a pick up and read for the little (or big) fans in your whanau!
